Clean store and friendly service. On par with Randall's stores if you're from Texas. Some things a little more pricey, good selection of liquor and wine + you can buy before noon..woo hoo lol. Lots of other shops in the area too. read more

We stopped by this Safeway sometimes more than once a day while on vacation in Kehei. The self check-out attendant even got to know us a little too well for a simple 6 day vacation! HaHa! She was so sweet! We ordered sandwiches in the deli one day and although they were pretty good, they weren't up to par compared to other Safeway Deli sandwiches I've had. The lady working was so sweet though. That seems to be a theme in this store. This store didn't seem to have a great Tequila selection, so we drank whiskey throughout our vacation. No biggie. Food prices can be a little shocking to out-of-towners, but if you go in knowing you're going to pay more...it doesn't hurt so bad. :) This really is the best place to get everything you need, if you don't want to drive all the way back to Costco. I frequently shop after work here at Safeway and can't help but notice that it is ALWAYS understaffed. It seems only 2 checkers are ever working and the lines are long and time consuming. When I asked my checker, Jennifer, why only two people work at night, her response was less than professional. She blamed being stuck with a new checker wasn't easy either..... Customer service is definitely not a concern for Safeway or there would be more checkers to assist the late night shopper. read more

Store is a bit disorganized, but with the high traffic of customers this is understandable. My rating is based on the experience at the deli. She seemed annoyed and rushed me. I assume again, this is due to high customer traffic. read more

The grocery store has always been very good but this time we attempted to get a prescription for my daughter from the pharmacy department. My daughter had worked hard to get a prescription called in for her from her doctor. When she attempted to pick up the prescription it was not even logged and the pharmacist would not listen to the doctors message that she had left on the phone because he said he was too busy so we had to wait all day to get the prescription filled. At the end of the day when the prescription was ready the pharmacist told us we would have to wait 15 more minutes because everyone was getting sick today. I guess it would've helped if they were polite but they were also very rude. I would recommend the store but if you have to get a prescription filled I would go elsewhere for that! read more

Selection is ok not the best quality of food. We went to the seafood counter and they had no scallops the seafood clerk told us to go to the frozen isle. The bakery had lots of variety which is nice. The deli was ok. Overall the store is dirty. The manager needs to forecast more hours period. Throughout the entire day lines of people waiting to pay. A couple behind us was complaining that it's always like this and the company is losing guests because they don't want to wait in line. read more

This looks like a clean modern well stocked store. Until I went to use the restrooms. They were disgustingly unkept, and it wasn't something that happened recently. They were unclean, including the floor, sink, and everything else inthere. A toilet seat was missing. It was bad enough in my opinion that the entire store should have been shut down by the health department. I give it 3 stars reluctantly only because the rest of the store was clean and cashier was pleasant. Prices are higher though than the other local grocery store. I have no desire to go here only because of the restrooms were that scary. Hate to even think about the employees using them. read more

Just like home (only a little more $), so just perfect for the kids. Laid out just like the stores at home, so you can get in and out quickly and get back to your vacation. All the same stuff they stock at home, plus some yummy Hawaiian additions - like POG juice - we love that stuff. read more

That is the worst experience in a safeway I have never encountered. There was an error on a price. I asked the refund of the difference. Usually, it happens enough quickly. But I had to wait the manager. When he has checked on his computer, he had still a new false price. I had to tell him then to insist. We have checked the tag in the department store together and he began to touch my fruits with the others on the shelf to check if you hadn't moved the tags. I was dumbstruck. But it's not finished. He said yes ok this is the price or something like that as if the price in his computer was the good one. I repeated that he has to take into account the good price. So we came back to the computer and he refunded us without apologizing. I have almost never seen that in my life. That safeway stinks utterly. read more

I love their sandwich bar! My favorite is the Turkey Avocado sandwich with Pesto sauce on Focaccia bread. I also like the Philly Cheesesteak, etc. The sandwiches usually costs only $6.49 unless you want something different. Great deal and it's very filling. Tip: they can get pretty busy so if you are on a time constraint, it's best to get there early as there is always a line (lunch time) but worth the wait. read more

We shop at multiple places while we are in Maui depending upon what we are buying. We go to Costco for the basics meats, milk, eggs, etc. The farmers market for all of our fresh fruits and veggies, this is where you'll find the freshest local produce at the best price. Finally we shop at Safeway for everything we need but didn't want to buy in mega gigantic bulk size at Costco, because do you really need 2 gallons of cooking oil for a three week stay? In the past Safeway always seemed to be extremely overpriced much like many of the grocery stores on Maui, but this last trip I've noticed that prices are the same or only slightly higher than prices on the mainland. A couple examples? We bought a quart of o.j. for $3.99, dreyers ice cream was $3.99, and a case of beer was $13.99. Some people complain about the higher prices for groceries on Maui, but it's important to remember that most items need to be shipped and the added cost will always be passed on to the consumer. If I were to have one complaint it would be the lack of local produce as the vast majority of the produce section seems to be the same fruit and veggies offered in mainland Safeways. There is such great produce being grown on Maui it seems odd that this Safeway does not sell very many locally grown fruits and veggies. I can have a red delicious apple or Florida orange any time, bring on the cherimoya and the lilikoi. read more

Ridiculously rude deli and sushi women. They ignore you until you hunt them down. Act as if you're annoying them and they can't be bothered. Was asked if I wanted to pay for my sandwich at the counter this morning after waiting for almost 10 minutes and being yelled at once asking for assistance... I said I did want to pay there and was then yelled at again and told no I have to go over there (waved in a general direction). About a week ago, after being ignored by the sushi ladies and then asking for help and ordering a custom roll, she spent nearly 15 minutes trying to deter me from not just picking something up and then told me "well it's going to be a while" and took my entire 30 minute lunch break making a 2 ingredient roll. She then proceeded to ask me where I've ordered custom sushi rolls before that I feel I can do that. Literally absurd. I work 2 jobs in this shopping center and unfortunately frequent this location and I have to say this is a regular occurrence with these employees. Foodland down the way is much better if you're not in a hurry. read more

Huge Safeway, lots of items, everything you'd find on the mainland. We bypassed a few other stores during our visit just to come to Safeway. Although, if you want more traditional Hawaiin foods (baked goods, fresh fish, etc), maybe try the Foodland on Kihei Rd. We enjoyed strolling through picking up a fresh fish snack, but they seemed a little expensive, and we were just more familiar with Safeway for the run-in-and-get-it stuff. read more

It's a large store but they don't have much selection in reality. Very few "local" items. Bakery is low quality and so is seafood. Checkout lines always insanely long and the self-checkout machines always broken. Go to Times a half mile down the road instead. Slightly higher prices but way better experience, more selection, and quality food, along with faster checkout lines & friendlier employees. Plus, no member card gimmicks with Times. read more

Would have rated higher but the deli dept was almost hilariously annoying! Last time I checked I lived in the U.S. where English is spoken. Yet when I tried to order, the little lady behind the counter just stared at me. Then in her accent she was like, what u want? So I said it again, then she looked at the guy standing by her and he said something to her and she still looked confused. Finally another lady stepped up and I repeated what I was wanting and she explained it to her. I was 5 seconds from just walking away. If you are in the customer service field no matter which country you live, it's a good idea to know and understand the language spoken. read more

It's a Safeway. What can I say? It's in Maui which is an automatic +1. It has all the stuff you expect to find at Safeway. Prices were definitely higher than I'm used to in California, but when everything has to be shipped over you have to expect that. For being on an island, I thought there would be a way better seafood selection. I suspect that the locals shop somewhere else and this really only caters to tourists (like me). read more

This store is way too crowded. Since it is right off the highway, no one looks for locally owned stores to shop in. Sta and Foodland are just down the road and are a lot more pleasent to shop in. The employees are smiley, but not helpful. They don't know what is in thier own store! I asked three different people about pesto, including two in the deli, and no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Maybe if they hired more English speaking people there would not be so much confusion. read more

This Safeway is so beautiful but if you want to drink coffee here good luck finding somewhere to sit. There are 4 tables but 3 are always taken by the same three people everyday. I swear they live there and it smells in that area as well. I understand that there is free wifi and a.c. but be considerate of others. Why hasn't the manager addressed this problem?? I have a solution....I was always told if I was gonna complain have a solution to the problem or your just complaining. How about locking the outlets there?!? I've seen outlet covers lots of places. This way as soon as their computers/phones/tablets die they will leave to go charge them. Simple solution. Please let these guys know they are taking advantage. I just want to enjoy my coffee on a chair. read more
