I love Mom & Pop kine shops, MORIHARA STORE caught my eyes when we arrived at Kula Bistro, I had to cross over to check the store out and also once I found out we could BYOB at the restaurant I got excited and went to grab beer and some other drinks. I especially loved the Chi Chi brand mini bottle of margarita. Morihara Store is a Kula tradition since 1948 located, offering a unique, local shopping experience there are tons of stuff in this cute shop, which looks tiny from the outside but you will be surprised from you see inside. A little mini supermarket store that has mostly everything, even variety of hot foods. The alcohol section really caught my eyes. Great selection btw. hehe. Mr. Cashier ( local guy) was full of Aloha, very friendly. I enjoyed looking around the store, after browsing I paid for my alcohol and thank you! This general store is directly across the street from Kula Bistro on the Lower Kula part of the island. I enjoy visiting stores that have been around for several decades because the small business appeal is real. The commercialized big stores are generally overpriced and lack quality customer service. We popped in just to check out what they sold. It's truly a "small town mart" in which you can purchase ingredients for a meal, fresh produce, hygiene products, drinks, wine, and beer. If you were staying in a hotel nearby, this would definitely be the 'go-to' store. I believe it's father and son that runs the shop. Prices are fair game and the selections are great. Was working nearby Walked in for lunch cuz I didn't have any for work, sat in line while the guy talked to every customer for 5minutes at the register. Two microwaveable burritos and a manapua 16$ lol I cracked a joke and explained it was way overpriced and guy got all defensive and pissed off told me to "talk to his vendors" & that he doesn't make the prices. As a business owner you choose what you want on your shelves. That being said place is like a tourist trap. But for working class local people. This is your corner store but it's a little more unique than average long-term family business with lots of local items. Including local produce local meat grass fed beef from our Maui County cattle company and they even have some lamb from time to time, which is wonderful if you can get it. They make very very strong coffee parking lot can be a little tight at times. Good selection of beer and wine they have Hotdogs and Steamed buns to snack on Friendly family service caps off your check out experiences. read more

Morihara Store is one of the more modern of the mom and pop stores because they provide the community with a lot more goods than Fong's or Ching's up the road. The wine selection is good, they offer meats and produce among other groceries. They also serve cheap hotdogs that you can have with their chili. I thing a regular hotdog is less than $2, but I haven't tried it. They seem to be doing pretty good business mainly because there aren't many competitors nearby. I don't know how old this store is but there is a tiny window with bars on the exterior that used to be the area's post office. This is not a bad place to stop because you can visit the glass shop across the street which is worth seeing also. read more

I've always heard about this place but never went in until recently. We were headed to a friend's home in Kula for dinner, and she asked us to buy her a pack of smokes. I asked my spouse "Umm, where is there a store in Kula??" Like a diamond in the rough, just past the Kula Community Center, Holy Ghost Church, and directly across the street from the restaurant Kula Bistro on Lower Kula Road, stands this mom & pop shop that has been around since 1948. The 7Eleven of Kula, if you will, but without a gas station. There are quite a few parking stalls regardless of their small footprint. The store is bustling with people buzzing in and out for odds and ends. They're filled to the brim with everything you can think of; canned goods, frozen foods, beer & alcohol, snacks, household goods and cleaners, and a small fresh grocery section. Prices weren't that much higher compared to regular markets, and some things were even cheaper. They also have a Redbox-like DVD rental machine. Service was quick and friendly. HOURS: Sun 7:30am to 8pm Mon - Wed 6am to 8pm Thu - Sat 6:30am to 8pm OVERALL: Super convenient for Kula residents! read more

Hell's Bell's, Morihara Store is in the hood! As I sit here typing this review, I am contemplating a quick run there yonder for some of my favorite provisions.... Amazing beer selection, local Maui beef, and produce, Spam Musubi, frozen french fries, a Red Box for those of us who still 'rent' Dvd's.... hot food, hot dog, chili and rice, pork hash, fresh flowers, cat food, chicken feed.... What really sets Morihara Store apart, besides being in upper Kula, far away from the masses, is that their staff is exceptional. I have never ever not been engaged in a positive transaction or discussion with their welcoming and pleasant staff. (John especially knows his way around the beer product.) An absolute delight, long time standing, local, and convenient. (And for those who are dinning at Kula Bistro, right across the street... this is where you can get your BYOB.) read more

Morihara's is just a small mile walk from home. I love the peaceful stroll to gather supplies and the staff are ALWAYS so nice to me. Beverages, produce, sweet treats, and/or a hot cup of coffee this local store always has just what we need. I also like to pick up post cards, souvenirs, and tote bags! Like I said it is a one stop shop. I encourage anyone to shop local whenever you can. Morihara's has been open and ready to assist us especially with the pandemic and I think if you haven't shopped local in the past; now is the time to consider this gem of a store. read more

Surprisingly good wine selection! They have a great relationship with the restaurant across the street (Kula Bistro) which offers free corkage. Definitely pick up a bottle of wine for your meal before dinner. read more

Old time Kula staple.. it has that perfect balance of being small enough to get in and out of quickly but big enough to be able get most household products from a hot meal to ingredients to make one to deodorant to a quick gift if you're heading to someone's house.. between the fair pricing and killer staff this place always seems to pleasantly surprise me.. not sure why I've become so cynical with my expectations for retail experiences but Morihara store is one of those that has consistently reminded how self righteous I can be without realizing it.. I for one am very glad we have this place up here and hope they stick around at least as long as I do.. read more

Nice general store at Kula. You can get some soft drinks, hard drinks, ice creams. Nothing fancy, but convenient .

On a quest for lau lau and manapua, I gave Cafe 808 a try (right across the street) but no joy. My girlfriend and I walked across the street to this store and, what do you know, there were lau lau in the freezer (better than nothing!) and warm manapua and pork hash at the counter. The manapua are the rare "Char Hung Sut" style with shredded rather than chopped pork. Big thumbs up there. Yum! Edit: I handed out 4 stars at first, but I don't know why. Interesting quaint store for locals and quick stops We dropped in after a late lunch at the Kula Bistro to browse. The store probably provides a convenient location for many of the locals and offers some hot foods as well as general groceries. To our surprise we found a number of "maui" type items like Hula Girl pancake batters which were priced LOWER than Foodland or Times markets down in Lahina. Mom's fresh chili recipe, and local hot dogs are so 'ono! Prices are very reasonable, and there's lots of organic foods, too. The best part, owner, Ernie Lopes, his ohana, and friendly staff. I love this little general store in upcountry Kula area of Maui. It is my regular stop to get snacks such as chili with rice, manapua and musubi. They also have produce, but very expensive compare to other shops another 10min away. They also sell ice, which is always helpful. read more

My niece had a very bad experience with Morihara Store recently. Apparently, somehow, her personal information like how she paid for her groceries was given to another customer by means of UTTER GOSSIP!! The information was given by one or two very UNPROFESSIONAL STORE MANAGERS. BEWARE, when you go in there, as you do not know what they talk about and to whom. It is obvious, they talk "stink" about their "valued" customers to other customers. Given the economic landscape, they cannot afford to have this kind of bad review. It is a big "AUWE !!" I will find another store, thank you very much. Besides, they are way too expensive for the average local born person. read more

A local gem in Kula. We wanted to go to Kula Bistro for breakfast after Haleakala, but it's closed on Mondays. Morihara Store was open right across the street and had a nice little array of musubis, steamed buns, rice and chili. They have a range of local/organic items plus basic things you'd expect to find in any little market. Both packaged convenience foods and fresh fruits/vegies. The lady at the hot food counter was very helpful, yeah. I'll go back for sure next time I'm in Kula. read more
