This is your typical Safeway. We use the pharmacy and have had great service, everyone at the checkouts are friendly (and they have self checkouts too). They have a decent selection of organics and I like the Wells Fargo inside. My biggest problem is that the shelves are stocked with expired foods. Every time we forget to check every item, something makes it home months expired. It's happened way too many times to be acceptable. read more

This store is oddly much busier than their outside parking lot suggests. Even with that, however, the store lacked many food options we were looking for, the chip section was drained and their fruit felter suspiciously too soft to risk. The only real place they had well stocked is the candy, which was a moderate selection, but it was at least stocked. read more

Please replace Trish at the self-checkout. Today was my 4th visit where she was rude - always rolling her eyes, mumbling things under her breath, as if customers are her biggest problem. Today she was extra bitchy and had to review each item on my self-checkout - acting as if I stole from your store which I clearly didn't , she just wanted to be a big ole BITCH. She is a nasty rude woman, and she clearly hates her job!! Grocery shopping is already a pain, why make it worse with an unpleasant and rude employees? Please Trish - if you read this, its time to move on to your next job!! read more

Love the selections and variety of products this store has to offer! However I occasionally run into problems at the Register and it's usually with the same rude and impatient cashier that doesn't appear to have any degree of customer service skills. I usually only have a few items because I shop on sale and I want to verify correct prices. When I ask him to slow down he just points to the screen and keeps going. I watch my money closely so I need to make sure all possible coupons are applied, I don't need an unmotivated annoyed cashier! I can't believe he is still working there based on how he treats people. read more

I only shop here when working so I only buy a few things but everything I price is outrageous. Are these people on crack? I don't like that they think people should spend so much more on items because of the location, IF that is what this is about. I bought 4 things yesterday which were all supposed to be on sale and only 2 things rung up properly and I had to get to work so I couldn't complain. This has happened before as well. Last Saturday I paid too much for the fresh, packaged celery hearts to bring to a friend's and found that the stalks were browning on the inside. I could only use about 50% of the stalks. Ambiance is poor. Not sure why anyone "Needs" ambiance in a grocery store but if you're asking, I've seen this store do better. read more

Homeless zombies roam parking lot looking for unlocked cars while their partners load up baskets of groceries and just walk out without a care. Managers could care less when told. Refrigerators never work, so cold items are 50/50. The theft of the store has driven prices to the level of Whole Foods without the quality. Go anywhere else... read more

This store is dirty and disorganized. The carts are all wonky and there are no small carts. Self checkout is for 15 and under, but there's only one checker. The bright spot is the nice guy at the deli. read more

Safeway - 9:30 am Saturday this is their deli - Grocery Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Not super clean and this "safe"way does not feel safe at night. Lots of homeless people in the parking lot, and lots of cleanup needed in their parking lot. Everything at Safeway (unless on sale) is stupid expensive!! It's much cheaper to shop at Costco and Trader Joe's- especially for produce. I only go here for essentials if I have to. Later in the day the only option is self checkout. Even people working there complain about the state of the store and how much theft they face! Not where I want to spend my hard earned grocery money. read more

Plz remind Safeway employee, Mr. "I'll pray for you" that he needs to be a little more sincere than shouting his self important statement across the store in an attempt of showing - what? - compassion? Oh no, he must think it MAKES HIM look pious. Guess what, I think prayer is private. Compassion is outwardly helping someone out in a situation of which you know the rules are wrong, but only you hold the key to be flexible and only YOU can easily change the narrative. Cashing in coins is often a semi desperate cash need move. I would like to explain my confusion, but, "bless your hearts", I'll try not to make y'all chose sides without facts, and keep the discussion between the person I will be speaking with at the store and me. Thank you to the deli guy (always honestly nice) and this Safeway's (2150 S Downing Denver) true heart, the endlessly kind blond woman - often in self checkout (forgot name, Tricia? - ) if you shop there you will know who I mean. Thank you both for your kindness. As for you self appointed apostle, you are so pathetic. Time to restudy the true teaching of faith and applying it- not your rendition loser. Apologies and correction accepted, do you dare? Boo! read more

While this location has never been a gem, it was at least reliable. In the last year, I've watched this location go wayyyy down hill. *Almost* all the checkout employees kick ass, but the stock, varies and inventory of this location are GARBAGE. The reason I'm writing this review is for the absolute cabbage-brained inventory manager who told me, after being unable to answer if they carry any tzatziki since it's no longer where it has been for years - yogurt, salad dressing or otherwise - that I can just mix ranch sauce with dill. What in the actual backwoods fuck are you talking about? Common items out of stock, sometimes for weeks. Completely unreliable re-stocking. Did you like that product? Dope! They don't have it anymore! The meat section is especially horrendous. I haven't seen anything but the lowest grade of USDA since 2019. Expired, leaking proteins are somewhat common. The readyfresh meals look about as appetizing as my feet after a workout. read more

Deli staff are incredibly rude. I asked for a container to put the self serve hot bar wings in and I was told to put them in a brown paper bag laying on the counter- NOT food safe container, especially for a saucy wing. Okay- maybe not that bad but then I asked for 1 serving of potato salad to which she snapped that it was prepackaged in the fridge behind me and she walked me over to find some. No single servings at all- just a quart. So we ended up at the counter for one pound where the sale price was not honored. Would've been quicker just to scoop some the first time. Last part- I tried to get the wings in the bag (gross) at 6:20 after grabbing frozen stuff so they were hot and there were none. I politely asked what time they stopped serving them since they were there five minutes prior and was told 6:30... at 6:20... Not a great experience and won't be back. Head to king soopers read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for 32 years and have shopped here the whole time. But Safeway has slid so badly that as of today I'm never going back. Their main entry door has been broken for two years. I have complained about smacking into it for two years. I have complained to the manager in person, and I have complained in writing. And today the door is still broken and I hit it again. This store is run without regard for customer safety. And it ain't so great to begin with. From now on I'm going to Sprouts. read more

If I could give this location negative stars I would. Terrell is so so so so rude it's actually absurd. If you need anything from customer service you're sol- it is almost always closed. If you want to pop in quick- think again, you won't find more than one check stand open, and the cashiers they do have have absolutely no concept of moving at anything other than a snails pace. The pharmacy is unreliable, it took me months to get my prescriptions successfully transferred, and the head pharmacist is incredibly condescending; imagine the most arrogant person you know and then go up a level. I've lived in this neighborhood for fives years and the current state of things is new- it used to be our go to. Now it is only out of necessity and even then, I leave amazed at how terrible the service is here. They would be just as well to fire everyone and plow this place. It's that bad. read more

Every time I ordered pick up I get great service, friendly people who assist and apologize if something is out of stock. Yesterday I did a pick up but unfortunately I didn't get the wonderful young man's name. I have a safeway behind my apt but I don't like the manager and staff. Her staff is scared of her and nothing has been done about getting rid of her. I will drive 2 miles to the 2150 S Downing store before I will spend a time in the one by me. Obviously I am not the only one with problems at this store by me. GREAT PEOPLE AND SERVICE AT 2150 DOWNING SAFEWAY!!! read more

The Safeway located in Idaho Springs, CO. has definitely moved up several notches in customer service. I met Desirae on her first day on the job. Usually my husband & I bring in a few carts going into the store but leave the empty cart in the"cart corral". But not this day. I was so impressed with Desirae's positive attitude, kindness, & enthusiasm, displayed to myself & all customers that I took the cart back in because I wanted to tell her how very much she & her efforts were appreciated. Desirae is truly genuine. Time & time again, Richard & I have received & witnessed the aforementioned characteristics. Most sincerely, Richard & Michelle Chicago Creek Road read more

It is remarkable as to how this branch stays open. Today I went in and ordered an item that was 2 for $6.00. Unfortunately, they only had one. However, the same company with a slight variation had the same product right next to it for 2 for $3.00. When I checked out it only gave me each item for $3.75. I complained to the manager Milo of the front (or at least one of two). He was very polite but said that since they were understaffed it would take 30 minutes before this could be addressed. The actual store manager for the store Carlos was simply unavailable. Basically he said, "tough luck". When no one is available for a complaint it is a bad sign and when the manager for the store stays unavailable it is even worse. So, If you want to be treated like dirt, try this branch. What amazes me is that they get away with this as their prices are generally more expensive than King Soopers and their stock is always short. read more

I have lived in the neighborhood for 30 years, and the decline in produce, product and customer service is appalling. Especially, customer service. Today, the customer service counter guy saw me, walked away and went behind a door. One of the cashiers paged CS, the guy came out, and said he couldn't help for 15 minutes and walked away. Sure, I get the store is probably understaffed, but the lack of any CS is completely lacking. I have started shopping elsewhere, even though the store is close. read more

This is the worst grocery store in Denver - it's understocked, there's expired food on the shelves, but the worst part of it is the Pharmacy. I've had multiple problems there, and the staff is hit or miss on customer service. When I got my last Covid vaccine, the dude was borderline anti-vax, telling me all the boosters weren't necessary. Very unprofessional and wrong. After tonight's debacle, I won't be returning. On June 27, 2023, around 6:30 pm, I returned to the pharmacy upon my doctor's advice, because I had been given the wrong prescription. Turns out my doctor put in the prescription erroneously, but that wasn't explained to me until later. I asked how I could get my money back, and the young man with the glasses just looked at me with hostility and said, "I can't do it." I started to get frustrated. The pharmacist there, who is not at all friendly or helpful, explained to me that they couldn't refund my money because I had taken the prescription. Fine, I got that, I just wanted my money back -- I asked repeatedly how I would go about that. Then the young female employee with glasses and frizzy, mousey hair butts in and starts telling me "you're the one with the problem, you took the prescription" -- about four times, until she finally realized I wasn't the one who messed up the prescription and shut up. After standing there just witnessing his employees be total jerks to a customer, the pharmacist FINALLY said clearly that I needed to call my doctor and have them refund the money. THAT'S ALL I NEEDED TO KNOW, FFS. It's still bullshit, because why do I, the patient, have to work out their mess, but at least it was an answer. This could have been politely explained to me at the very beginning. I get that our health system SUCKS and these people have thankless jobs, but it's time for some serious customer service training, because f*ck that bullshit. read more

I've been going to this store for 10 years and have noticed this store slowly going downhill. Management doesn't care and half the time there isn't even management onsite therefore, you get rude workers like Tyrell (cashier and bagger), Melissa who says she was the manager, acting like leadership and telling people to leave their store. Unbelievable. I'll be making a claim on BBB just to document this incident. WHERE WAS MANAGEMENT!! I did call the Manager, Aaron who never called me back. Shocking!! read more

I honestly hate Safeway and here's why. 1. They are more expensive than their competitors, such as King Soopers for example 2. They don't have the freshest produce. Their produce section looks piss poor. 3. A lot of the items are placed in odd places and hard to find. 4. There are boxes and junk all over the place. It's just disorganized This store is just frustrating to me. I just came in because they had strawberries and raspberries on sale but honestly, those looked pretty horrible, so I walked out with nothing. It was a waste of time. You're better off at king soopers. They do a better job with bringing on better prices, they also have a cool app, and also they show what produces and products are from Colorado. Also this Safeway literally is a ghost town. No one is ever there. read more

I come to this store very seldom anymore because the staff just seem checked out . They do not seem to care or are just plain lazy! They are definitely not engaging or friendly. The self checkout is incredibly dirty. I have never seen an employee clean anything. The scanners are disgusting and the staff member just stands there looking clueless and disinterested! They were very crowded tonight, and you would think that they would have everyone on deck, but there were few registers open and the checker I had did nothing more than move the groceries across the scanner. She would not even lift a finger to do anything or help in any way. She had black hair with a ski cap. Anyway, I checked with the store manager and I was told that this Safeway is not a full service grocery store. Well, I will only shop at a full service store, and I will never shop at this store again. This is the worst service of any grocery store ever. I wish we could have a zero star rating because that is all they deserve. Safeway Management: Is it true that you are not a full service grocery store? The manager at your store at 2150 S Downing in Denver says that you are not a full service grocery store. From now on I will shop at a store that actually wants to provide service. This is definitely not the case for the Safeway at 2150 S Downing Street in Denver. read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Denver, Colorado

This store is extremely hit or miss and carries much less selection than the Safeway on Broadway, but for me this store is too convenient to not go to. On a Sunday afternoon, I was shocked to the store nearly empty. I was expecting it to be busy with great customer service. The lobster tails were on sale for $5 each, but all were in the case so I had to wait for someone. over 10 minutes went by and there was still no one in sight so I went on with my shopping with hopes that the check out person would be willing to help out. To my surprise, the Russian sounding woman at the check out was annoyed and acted as if I was a huge inconvenience for asking for two tails. She even made me check out at a separate register. Then when I got home and cooked them THAT NIGHT, one tail was perfectly firm and the other one was complete mush. It was so sad, as it was an early Christmas dinner for my boyfriend and I before going separate ways for the holidays. They also never carry the mild Italian sausage links in their store brand which is also pretty annoying considering they are typically on sale for a decent price. I would like to say that many times I come to the store I see people restocking shelves. The people in the deli are also usually on top of it and are extremely helpful and happy, even when I ask for just 3 slices of cheese! read more

I despise this Safeway, I live about a quarter-mile from here and will drive down to the King Soopers on Hampden and University just to avoid coming here. If you want to witness someone OD'ing in the restroom or be worried someone's going to pick your wallet, then this is your friendly neighborhood Safeway. The young manager (I guess) guy with curly hair is the biggest a**hole. I've repeatedly been disappointed by the Starbucks at this location. They never seem to have reliable help that knows what they're doing. The other day I waited 10 minutes because no one was there. What an awesome store. This store is near by workplace about two miles west on Evans. I come here for lunch most days of the week. I hit up the soup counter for lunch ($2.99 or $3.99, depending on size), and I can get through the self checkout in about five minutes usually. I like the variety here too -- great pet food selection (They were one of the first stores in Denver to stock FreshPet). I noticed the greeting card aisle was massive with choices (Mother's Day is coming up.). All in all, I have no complaints and appreciate the hard work to keep your store nicely organized, stocked and clean. read more

I am so disappointed in my nearby Safeway (S. Downing) since changes were made in the layout of the store recently. The aisles are now tight and it's a struggle to get around, especially when they are busy. Even more than this, a large number of items that I routinely purchased in the past are no longer carried, and inventory is DOWN. Apparently these changes were made in order to accommodate a larger pharmacy and in-store bank, neither of which I utilize. I now find myself shopping at other area stores, including Whole Foods, in order to get what I want. GIven the exorbitant prices there, this is a bummer. It is also my regular experience that the folks in the deli are hugely busy with tasks other than serving customers waiting at the counter, and you can stand there quite a while hoping to catch their eye to receive service. At some level I feel badly for these folks, as they seem harried and overworked, but it's also obnoxious to pointedly ignore a waiting customer. Finally, I hope the employees see the writing on the wall, as this store is clearly transitioning hugely to self-service, especially at check out. Increasingly I am seeing one or at most two lines with human checkers, and LONG, LONG lines at the self-checkout kiosks. I am actively shopping for a new comprehensive grocery store that has true commitment to customer service. This Safeway is now as bad as the Albertson's in my old neighborhood. I've always been a Safeway girl. In the UK, that was where my family shopped when they were still there. And, like other Safeways, this Safeway has fresher produce and a better bakery section as well. However, I tend to shop at King Soopers. Why?
