This is one of my favorite locations of Natural Grocers. Despite the fact that this location is quite a drive from my DTC house, I have a weekly business in this north RiNo neighborhood hence the frequency of my visit to this location. I always find this location of NG clean. The employees are courteous and friendly. The parking has never been an issue as the lot has ample room for cars. With that said, it's a bit surprising to see the 3.5 star rating as of mid August of 2024. Today I found a delicious and delightful sparkling water. Zero calories, no added sugar but is so refreshing and flavorful. The 12oz cans were $1.98 (each). Not bad. I mostly get produce when I go to NG just like any other day, They always have the freshest veggies and fruits. The quality is something I can always count on. I also get water (refill.) Per gallon price for members (doesn't cost to become one) is $0.29 which is the lowest out of all the other grocery chains. I shop here all the time. I find their prices reasonable considering almost everything is organic and customer service friendly. Be sure to bring your own bag and sign up for their loyalty program. It's quite generous in this era of corporations focusing on margin expansion. My only gripe is their limited selection. For example there have been a few times where the only citrus they have is grapefruit. read more

I just got home from Natural Grocers, and I'm pissed off. Here's three of the things that got my goat. 1. We were not even in the store for two minutes before two different employees approached us to as if we were "finding everything okay." Is it because nothing was in our cart yet? Jeez. I've probably been shopping there longer than they've been working there. But then when we get to the checkout, none of those employees are anywhere to be seen, only one lonely cashier was left to manage all the customers! 2. There were three different printed flyers in my groceries when I got home. Literally, 70 pages of useless ads that nobody's going to look at--straight to the recycling bin. With all the money they're spending on printing (and killing trees) they could be paying their employees a better wage and maybe preventing some of that high turnover. 3. I put my groceries away and was sitting down to relax with a snack when I got SIX EMAILS from Natural Grocers about some ridiculous bingo thing. WTF, man? Stop bothering me. I thought I unsubscribed years ago. I also need to mention that the produce at this location is particularly bad. It's always poor quality, and if you don't use it within 48 hours of purchase, it's usually rotten. I only go to to NG for their organic produce and bulk selections (and because this location is my nearest grocery store) but I'm considering a permanent switch to Sprouts because at least their produce stays fresh. They sell moldy bread, and won't make it right! I purchased their sourdough bread on Christmas Eve with an expiration date of 12/31, and I threw away the receipt because who keeps receipts for items they can't return in 2023??? On the 28th I noticed there was mold all over the bread. On the 29th I went back to see if they could swap it out and they wouldn't unless I had a receipt............ I miss you at your location on the Platte across from Brother's. You were so convenient, especially when I would venture over from practicing yoga, and wanted to pick up a few things to make dinner with, or some treats for my dog. He loves the cloud star beef treats. This store was perfect if you wanted to grab a few things like any of the premade sandwiches or salads and have lunch along the river on a beautiful, warm, sunny day. I also would pick up local cleaning supplies or maybe something for dinner-like pasta sauce. I also enjoyed trying out new products that were on sale each week.(like coffee and other products) Now, the new store is a car ride away, as are any other locations. You don't go to Vitamin Cottage for the produce, you go for the opportunity to make your own almond butter. Turn on the grinder and grind yourself up a pound of fresh almond butter with no added anything, better than the pre-canned options, and almost 50% less in price. I also go for the bagged rice and dried fruit. My boyfriend buys gross produce there like bok choy and brussle sprouts. This usually causes him to get no booty the night he makes dinner. One of the coolest items that you can get at Vitamin Cottage are the Bees Wax ear candles. Buy one of these rolled up natural remedy sticks for each ear, light the wide side and stick the small side in your ear while you lay on your side. Make sure to continue to hold the wax as it burs. What is it doing? It is sucking out your earwax silly! Stay still and let it burn until the flame gets too close to your ear and you start to get nervous. Blow the flame out and unwrap the wax paper and take a look at your yummy earwax that has been hiding in your ear canal for probably years. Also, make sure not to pass up the huge bottles of castor oil. Shmear it all over your naked body after you get out of the shower and let the oil ooze into your scaly Colorado skin. Castor oil is fragrant free and better and cheaper than any lotion on the market. Make sure to ask the cashier for a parking pass, as customers get their parking paid for by the store... Not only is this close to our place but it's awesome too! It's pretty new to the area and was much needed! First of all they have their own parking lot which is small but I've never had an issue with finding a spot. Second the food choices are great!! I've always found what I'm looking for and never had any issues. The staff are friendly and always wanting to lend a helping hand. Thirdly they have a liquor store attached which is awesome! I like ciders and this is the best selection I've seen around Denver, the staff in there always give their help and recommendations if needed and the wine is all organic to top it off. You have to pay for all your booze in the liquor part before going back into the main store. My wife and i were on vacation. We stumbled upon this place by accident. We missed the exit and back tracked with our GPS to check it out. We are really glad we did too. This place was like a way cooler version of whole foods or trader Joe's mixed with a vitamin Shoppe. Great options for a paleo or other diets that are on the more strict side. I really try to eat healthy and was overwhelmed with all the great organic healthy options. I felt like a kid in a candy store. We grabbed some sandwiches, snacks, and drinks to take with us on our hike to My. Evans. We will definitely be back next time we are in town. They should open one up back in Pittsburgh PA. read more

I used to shy away from Vitamin Cottage because they're called just that: Vitamin Cottage. I have no use for vitamins and whenever I buy them, I take them for a week or two and then forget about them. I knew they had food, but with a name like "Vitamin Cottage" I assumed the food selection was probably taking a back seat. Now that they're calling themselves "Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage" I'm a little more receptive. This store is in a great spot if you're doing other business in the area (drinking beer, buying spices, doing yoga, buying outdoor equipment, etc). Because the store is so compact, I'm able to find what I need and get in and out relatively quickly. They have all of my staples (Earth Balance butter, Rapunzel bullion, happy chicken eggs) and also a wonderful selection of inexpensive, organic, pre-bagged bulk foods (beans, grains, flours, etc). The only section that is a bit lacking is the produce section. They might have what you need, but they don't have a ton of it. They also don't have a ton of prepared foods, so if you're into picking up a tasty lunch and maybe a cookie with your groceries, Whole Foods might be a better spot. Also, always remember a bag. This store is bag-free (commendable) but if you end up making an impromptu visit and buying more than you meant to, you'll have to carry it out in a box. This is a great option for good, inexpensive groceries so you can say I'm a fan. read more

I go here solely because of lack of another option in the area, nothing more. The selection is very limited and somewhat better than a convenience store. I go here when I don't actually need to do a grocery shop but when I need a couple of items and don't feel like driving across town to a larger organic serving store. Unfortunately, the place is limited and its hit or miss if they have the produce you need in stock if its not a mainstream staple, likely due to the lack of room. The choices are limited and odd at times, for instance they might cary something close to what your looking for but its a one off in some way. And tonight, I had to park at a meter to go shopping because their GIANT delivery truck that cannot fit in their delivery dock blocked the entrance and the exit to the parking lot. I do enjoy their vitamin selection but honestly, a real grocery store would serve the area much more than isles of choices of vitamins. I need grocery staples more than I need multiple choices of vitamins. This is likely an unpopular opinion but not having a real grocery store in the neighborhood is a big pain. read more

Vitamin Cottages are never as "pretty" or as large as a Whole Foods or Wild Oats. Nor do they have the huge selection. That being said, they are still much better. Unlike Whole Foods, they sell only natural and/or organic products. All their products/brands must first pass through a review board that assures the quality of it being called natural or organic before they even decide to sell it in their stores. And as far as I know, most of their products come from within the region, to offset the pollution that comes from shipping foodstuffs from afar. Plus they are locally owned. and possibly best of all... they are much more affordable than Whole Paycheck or Wild Oats (which is soon to be part of Whole Paycheck). As a concept I would easily give them 5 stars. I only give them 4 (or preferably 4 1/2) because I wish they had a bit more of a food selection. read more

Is this really where people go to stock up on vitamins. I don't know as I don't partake in the daily lining up the vitamin bottles before breakfast ritual. So, the name, and the concept is lost on me. I bolted in to VC after a visit to Savory Spice looking as I needed to buy coffee beans (I prefer coffee in the am to a bunch of pills). VC has a decent selection of Das Bog coffee at a reasonable price. Although it's no Whole Foods, nor Sunflower for that matter, there is a decent selection of grocery items and the employees are very helpful and friendly. At least a third of the store consists of isles packed with vitamins, natural supplements etc. so it you are into that, this is the place to go. read more

Yes, I love 'The Cottage' and if you're new to Denver, it's not like GNC. It's part 'Whole Foods' and yes, part supplement store, but oh goodness, once you go COTTAGE, you can't go back. The Downtown Denver Cottage (corner of 15th and Platte) just opened this very weekend so there were samples, samples, samples when I walked in on a Saturday morning. Not usually the case, but I really like this one. It's large for a VC and it's somewhat open. My expectation is that it will be crowded, especially on the weekends and a good time to hit it will be after work on the weekdays. Look for the discount basket. I once scored a whole box of Vitamin C for $.99 because it was expiring in a month. read more

This past thanksgiving I wanted a heritage turkey. You know, one of them birds that aren't meat-making machines? I had heard about them for a while and had wanted to try it at least once. Well, what do you know, the only grocery store that I could order one from was the Vitamin Cottage. They take a $5 deposit for a bird that's "7-16 lbs". They're (at least in '08) $5.49/lb and in my opinion, well worth the added cost. I got a 15 lb-er that was delicious. Very moist, very firm flesh. It also wasn't frozen when I got it, so that helped as well in the cooking prep. It didn't smell like it had been hanging around for a while, it smelled very fresh. One thing though, they said they'd call me when my turkey came in. They did not. No big deal though, I just assumed it was in and got it anyway. Look for the grab-bag produce specials. They bag up stuff that needs to go and sell it at a discounted price. Their regular produce is overpriced and not that great of quality. read more

Whomever has called this place overpriced has not been to either Whole Foods or King Soopers. Vitamin Cottage is a wonderful place to find organic produce, bulk items like beans and pastas and vegan/gluten free specialty items. In general, these types of specialty items can be expensive, but in relation to Whole Foods, the prices are low. Sometimes full dollars lower. They also have a huge selection of fresh and frozen meats including rare game like Elk and Ostrich. Their homeopathic offerings take up a full third of the store and there is really nothing you CAN'T find here. If they don't have it they'll get it. I enjoy their policy of "bring your own bag" or use one of their packing boxes to gather your groceries. It reduces waste and cost and helps keep costs lower. This store does a wonderful service and business to Denver. read more

I like this location. It's not the most visually appealing location but if you want staples, good location in the city and the free periodicals then this is fine. I really like reading the free magazines that are available in the rear of the store by the parking. Yes! There is free parking in the back for NG customers. The produce and general food offerings are fewer compared to those at the Washington St or Silverthorne locations but you can get the basics for sure. I love looking through the bath/personal care stuff here. The fresh food offerings will be limited and can run out after the lunch hour or towards 5pm but they are tasty. Big fan of this store, but if other stores carried the free periodicals I'd probably go to those instead, but for right now this is my go to in Denver proper. read more

I'm not a health freak nor do I try to be one. I don't normally frequent places like this, but me and the bf are in the process of doing a crazy master cleanse, so we needed some supplies. Sunflower Market surprisingly didn't have all that we needed, so I decided to stop in here. Lo and behold, Vitamin Cottage had EVERYTHING. Even a 64 oz jug of Grade B Maple Syrup! Once we're off the cleanse we're going to focus more on eating better, and incorporating more live/raw food into our diet. This is a great place to go shopping for healthy, clean foods. They have a selection of to-go foods, including my all time fav Evol Burritos. I also love their healthy snack selection and they have the raw food bars I have searched all over for. It's not as pricey as Whole Paycheck, a bit more expensive than Sunflower. I'm going to become a regular here if I can afford it. Also, they don't give out bags at all...so be prepared to bring your own. read more

Vitamin Cottage is not so much a grocery store as a natural/organic health food alternative to Safeway and prescription medication. Specializing in vitamins, tinctures, and tonics of a huge variety that offer all sorts of amazing health benefits (most not examined by the FDA), half of this stuff seems somewhat bunk. Still, I've purchased some stuff here - since I can't seem to get help from the failing mainstream medical system - and the stuff I've purchased seems to work pretty well. Besides that Vitamin Cottage specializes in: 1: Local goods 2: All organic foods 3: Helpful staff This place has some weird closing times, which I'm not sure what to do about.....I mean 8:04 Pm? 6:37 pm? Trying to be cute....? Nonetheless, the reason this place gets its 5th star is that it has a list of reasons for why it carriers what it does and what it does not (next to the door), including a list of dangerous herbs and foods that some people might think are beneficial. I've always been a big fan of Vitamin Cottage and was thrilled when I realized that I lived a mile away from one. At first I was a little hesitant about heading in that direction, for a couple reasons, but the main reason was parking. I can't parallel park to save my life- just ask my bumper. So I made sure to head down right as they opened one Sunday morning. What a surprise it was to discover that they had a parking lot!!! How I missed that before... I'm not quite sure. For all of us lucky lucky gluten intolerant peeps, they have decently priced options! Its way cheaper than going to a regular grocery store. I have found anything from gluten free stuffing for turkey day to chocolate covered pretzels (it was a great day when I found those- then i was informed that gluten free doesn't = calorie free... I ate the entire bag. by myself.) For those of you, who can eat like a normal person, I guess it all depends on what you'd want to spend on food. The produce is pretty expensive but on the flip side, it is as far as I've seen organic. You have a decent selection of natural hair, skin, and cleaning products- not to mention, they have a ridiculous selection of vitamins-- crazy right? The vitamin cottage has vitamins... The staff is always super nice and helpful! A few things aren't that great: the produce is lacking; i bought some horseradish that turned-out to be 3 months past due; not as reasonably priced as I was lead to believe. This is the best place/one of the ONLY places to get groceries in the 80202. I mean literally, you can find better deals than your typical big box stores most of the time. The one thing you need to watch out for is the expiration dates. I don't completely buy into the notion that food is bad by the date they scan onto packages, however... you still need to check at this place because sometimes they don't remove the items that have expired. Other than that, their vitamin/supplement section is a pethora of great quality product, their produce is fresh, they have a decent little cheese section, and their prices on organic nuts is cheap! They could bulk up their ice cream section and meat section though, not a hugeselection...but you don't go to a place like this looking for Walmart options. Over all, this is the closest place to our house and definitely worth checking out. (BTW, they are extremely friendly and helpful. Almost to the point where I have had to cut off the conversation on Vitamin D supplements haha... but hey, I'm not complaining!) read more

So the flax oil I bought said $9.99 on the shelf and I leave the store, scope the receipt and it's $11.75. Damn! I hate that. I should be more observant but I was too busy tearing into my soy jerky. I have actually never been in the food half of the store so I can't comment but I like their vitamin section. I got a super deal on some Omega 3's.
