To be honest, I expected a little more. I did find some good finds like my Tire Tread Red Licorice and awesome little ginger snaps. I liked the idea of prepackaged dried fruit and grains however, the packaging isn;t very alluring. A lot of stuff in the frozen section, but I don't want my meats or faux meats frozen. The best part about Vitamin Cottage is their commercials on TV. I mean honestly they are trying to pitch their "natural" market and they have this lady on TV with tons of make-up on. Just discovered Natural Grocers today. Why have I been wasting my time going elsewhere? You'd think every item on the shelves here would be a colossal ripoff, but I found amazing deals on nearly everything - Kashi cereals, Honest tea and even Newman-O's! (mint, of course) They also had a pretty great selection of frozen items, and fresh meats and cheeses that I'll definitely be checking out on my next visit. read more

As much as I love Sunflower, it's so nice having a neat little grocery EVEN CLOSER to where I live downtown, and an affordable one at that! The biggest draw for VC to me is the amazingly large selection of gluten-free foods, including (but not limited to): chicken nuggets, frozen waffles, lasagna noodles, biscuits, and more. It's basically the best place for someone who's GF to shop. I especially like that they sell GF goods from local bakeries like Udi's and Deby's. I will say last time I bought Deby's biscuits they started to mold after just a couple days, but I also didn't check the sticker on the bag, and they were a little old when I bought them. I know better next time. Still, this is my favorite place to go when I need to get solid basics without being tempted to buy all sorts of extra junk food! Way overpriced. As their prices go up and up I find myself less and less likely to drive to their store. If it were around the corner, maybe.. . The changes I've seen over the past 20+ years are not for the positive. The good things: all natural or organic produce (unlike Whole Foods--and this I really like about VC), better prices on vitamins, helpful employees. But Whole Foods' groceries are cheaper, especially when you buy their 365 brand (organic)--compare, for instance the price of canned organic beans between the two stores and you'll be surprised. That's only one example--you can compare item by item and most of the time, Vitamin Cottage is higher (except on vitamins and some of the body care products). The truth is, Whole Foods is more reasonably priced. I never thought I'd say Whole Paycheck was reasonable, but watch Vitamin Cottage's prices go through the roof. I just can't afford to shop there. Too bad. They're not serving their customers like they used to by offering organic and health foods at prices families can afford. read more

Huge fan of Vitamin Cottage. Only started coming in here a few months ago. Previous to then, I didn't really know what to make of it. The name kind of threw me and I really didn't expect them to have much in the way of groceries. Boy, was I wrong! On my first visit, I was blown away by how much stuff they did have and at what prices. I was expecting VC to be somewhere in the ballpark of Whole Foods price-wise, but I actually find most of what they offer to be substantially cheaper. I bike over here from downtown for lunch a couple times a week and it really does save me money. Looking at the layout of the store, they seem a bit smaller than your average grocer, but I don't think I've ever gone in there and not found what I'm looking for. There's also a microwave in the back, so when I get something that needs to be nuked, I don't have to take it back to my office, which is nice. I not really someone who purchases a lot of vitamins, but it's worth mentioning that they have a crazy amount of them - for just about every occasion or ailment that might pop up. If you're looking for some vitamin or supplement or natural remedy, chances are you'll find it here. Lots of friendly, helpful staff and clerks here as well. read more

Anyone who believes Vitamin Cottage went bagless for environmental reasons should take the time to review the company's recycling program. Don't waste too much time looking, though - they don't have one. While I love their (generally) low prices, it's absolutely incredible to me that a company that acts so self righteous about the environment doesn't even have the capacity to recycle a simple plastic bottle at their stores (or at least they can't at either of the 2 stores near my house). I'd give this retailer 4 stars for their customer service... unfortunately I have to also award them a negative 30 stars for being complete hypocrites. read more

Check it: His and hers Multi's and some grass fed whey protein is all top shelf, literally you'll need a stool if you're short. ....and on top a that, they got GHEE-that's clarified butter for those who don't know. Heart me some gluten free Liquid Aminos which reminds me, who wants to see Dr Broner vs Dr Bragg in a fight? I know I do. ... I have to park this shopping basket aisle side so I can pee, don't trip! (no merchandise in the bathroom-RESPECT!) clean as a whistle facilities for those who live in their car on their way to Boulder and what not. ...and another thing, yellow pee indicates dehydration. Natural Grocers - $160 well spent - Grocery Near Me - Denver, Colorado

If you're desperate and need natural/organic foods and don't want to drive 5-10 miles to Whole Foods, than this is your only option in the downtown Denver are. The selection is limited and the service is less than desirable. I had to make a quick trip due to convenience and regret not driving an extra 5 miles to Whole Foods in Cap Hill instead. The cashier rudely threw the kale to me (while I bagged my own groceries) and threw my shopping basket on the ground. Wow...they must be grossly underpaid or poorly supervised. What a shame because Vitamin Cottage has a good concept, they just have very rude people representing their stores. It's hit or miss with service and selection... so make sure to bring your bags (because they don't have any) and put on a thick skin :) read more

Vitamin Cottage is my go to spot for hard to find ingredients. Surprisingly, I have yet to be let down when I can't find something at the grocery store and then go searching at VC. My latest find was a jar of tahini that I needed to make some hummus. My one complaint about VC is their recent decision to do away with bags. While I admire their efforts to be more eco-friendly, perhaps they could charge consumers a fee to buy bags as opposed to leaving a shopper with an armload of groceries and no bag to put them in. read more

Vitamin Cottage is great. They are walking distance from me so the location can't be beat. Even if you need to drive, they have free parking. They have a large selection of groceries and vitamins and do not charge an arm and a leg like other organic stores. Also, you can find items on sale all the time which is good. The staff is also eager to help with any questions. Their vitamin help was also great. Their vitamin selection is large so you can find more items at a better price then a place like GNC. read more

Here's the truth: I RAVE about Natural Grocers as a whole, as it's, in my opinion, the best grocery option we have in metro Denver, hands down. But sadly I've had too many bad experiences here at the lohi location. I am certain something is wrong with their refrigeration standards or management. I've bought too many spoiled items specifically at this location, never has this happened anywhere else. I've even talked to the dairy manager before about it- it just seemed to strange that these things could only happen to me, when honestly I only shop here about once a month/quarter these days. I have no issues with the prices or service, this is strictly a spoilage issue. But isn't that the single most important job of a grocery store, to offer fresh food?? I stopped in again a few weeks ago to grab something quick. I get a kombucha and gf breakfast burrito from the open refrigerated area behind the registers. Btw, kombucha was completely flat (not normal at other NGs but typical of this store). I heat up the burrito in the microwave and eat on the run. It was tasty, but apparently it was spoiled because I had horrible food poisoning that night. I didn't have anything else the rest of the night so I'm positive this was the culprit. So every time I've bought a kombucha here it's not fresh & effervescent, and about every other visit I've come home with spoiled food. Vitamin cottage is local to where i often stay in Denver, so I often come here for my usual needs; Kombucha, capsuled herbs and such. It is somewhat pricey, and the staff doesnt seem to be very educated in the holistic healing field, which is a dissapointment, you would think a place called "vitamin cottage" that the staff would at least have some pre-knowledge of herbs and vitamins. Other than that its a cute place and they do have a good variety of products to choose from, including tinctures and such. Although I have left a couple times before not finding what i needed. :( read more

I do like the store very much but get totally crazed by their ads not only are they unprofessional but so stupid. It is too dramatic of me but I just can't stand that blond woman, she can't pronounce grocers she says "grochers"...... it's the name of the store!! I guess that all the people in the ads are tongue in cheek, she always wears unbelievable clothes as well, especially the latest outfits. Perhaps all the characters in these ads are family? The other thing that I don't like is that every Vitamin Cottage I've been to has the same awful smell. I think it is some kind of herb. Has anyone else noticed this? Mmm, I think I was spoiled when I had a Trader Joe's and Whole Foods close by in Chicago. The produce here leaves much to be desired, they have little fresh meat and selective exotic ingredients. yet, its not bad to have a grocery right next door! I applaud them also for their friendly service and organic nature, but Denver, let's get on the map and get a TJ's! Or at least more than one grocery option downtown! this store makes me happy! i am an avid whole foods shopper since i lost my mom to cancer a few years ago. i've never met another person who ate more fruits & veggies than my mom and i stronly suspect she developed the disease from pesticides and other unhealthy growing methods. that said, i do love shopping at whole foods. i do not love the prices, however. this store has SO many of the same items as whole foods, plus a slew more. the people are just as friendly and helpful. sure, the produce is much more limited and looks far less pretty, but a) it's SOOOO much cheaper ($1.00 for a head of romaine lettuce) and looks like it came out of a garden and not a hot house. their pre-prepared foods section is inspiring to me. i cannot wait to try so many of these time saving, but healthy lunch/dinner selections during the weeks where i travel for work and have no time to cook. this store is small and seems really limited in products until you really start digging around and seeing what's available. in so far as i can tell, there's only 2 things i'll have to buy elsewhere: some meats/fish spicy boca 'chicken' burgers however, it's located within biking distance from my house and on the nights it rains (last night) it's a quick drive and they have a private parking lot which makes shopping a breeze. read more

this place is just down the road from our offices in jefferson park - and it's such a relief to have a health food store nearby! it seems like the only other options for lunch are proto's and jack n grill (both of which i love dearly, but how much cheese do i really need to eat?). it's nice to be able to just head down to VC and grab a kombucha and a Larabar (who was recently sold to General Mills - TRAVESTY!). the only thing that bugs me about this location is their produce section. it's the smallest section in the whole place, and most of the selection looks like crap. they do have a great selection of Udi's and other local salads and sando's, which is also great for lunch. read more

I have been a loyal VC customer for decades but this store has made me rethink that. I have reluctantly put up this location's lack of selection, product shortages, and mediocre customer service for years but no longer. Today I was overcharged for more teas than I actually purchased. The difference was about $5.50. When I called to discuss this with the manager her only solution was for me to drive back there (15+ minute drive each way) for a refund. When I explained what a huge inconvenience that was she claimed there was no way to rectify the situation over the phone and that it would be up to me to go out of my way to correct their mistake. What poor customer service. Good bye Vitamin Cottage. I always went out of my way to patronize your stores but now I will give my business to Whole Foods and Sunflower instead. read more

I am a huge fan on this store! it took me awhile to become a fan, at first it appeared as thought they had more vitamins than groceries. I am currently doing a cleanse with Root Yoga Center (just across the street) and have had to buy a bunch of random stuff (castor oil pack, bulk items I've never heard of) and they seem to have it all at reasonable price. I visited this particular location last night. I started a cleanse/detox that I have done before, but the supplements required me to order from an online vendor. I had great results the first time, but I wanted to use my local spot(s) to get the supplements. I brought in a list of ingredients from the containers/website and spoke with a lady there and she was beyond helpful. This place is a little out of my price range for general grocery shopping, but I stop in from time to time to pick up breakfast or a snack for work. The staff is always genuinely friendly and helpful. Produce is fresh and when on sale you can find some decent prices. A great spot for the pop in and grab something organic shopper. The selection is strong with a wide variety of food for eaters of all kinds. The employees are a bit hit or miss- You will either get someone who is brilliant that knows the store up and down or one that you'd assume had a "special smoke" during break.
