Not wanting to only post complaints, I'd like to update my previous rant to something somewhat better. Maybe someone at Safeway read my previous post and took it to heart, or maybe just a better day in general but, I was just there for some light shopping and found the employees were not only helpful but, dare say it, made for pleasant shopping experience. Updated review. Was at the pharmacy today. Guy in front of me had a service Chihuahua. As if. Actually it was legit. He put the animal on the counter. On the freaking pharmacy counter. The pharm tech was like, 'how cute'. I was like, do people even have any manners any more? Are all young upscale white people privileged? (I am white and I know of whom I speak). I HAD TO ASK the counter be disinfected. Dirk is still great but his co-workers need a lesson on basic hygiene and state regs. Oh, and after at least a year, the aisles are not all labeled correctly. They moved out some bakery items to make room for precious profit, I mean, wine. The bread got moved to another aisle, and to this day, there is no clear signage. Maybe Albertson's could just make some money in this upscale gentrifying hood and sell the property. Local larger Safeway stores are kept in better condition. The one in Conifer is awesome. Even the old Edgewater King Soopers is a far superior store. The KS downtown Speer dungeon is a better store, after a recent renovation. Still a dungeon. fwiw, I used to make a living in the biz--at Sprouts--and I cannot tell you how different the corporate cultures are. OK, I will, if you ask. I would still shop at Sprouts but I need meds and the closest Sprouts is several miles away. One small item: Sprouts paid my sick leave for six months [mic drop]. Now, if Albertson's wants to buy me out of retirement, I would be happy to 'splain how you do a grocery store. Oh, and another tell: the front end cashiers no longer really exist and while the self-checkout people are actually doing a fine job, the employees don't last too long. Genuinely such a terrible experience. We are from out of town and needed to get some groceries for our vacation and chose the closest grocery store to us and we should have listened to the reviews online. The aisles are entirely too small to fit people and any item we needed was so hard to find. The store and aisles had no flow or any logical layout. There were two clerks working and they wouldn't let us do self checkout and the employee was not kind. We waited for 30 minutes to check out and missed an appointment we had previously booked because the line took so long. read more

Don't rely on the hours posted. This place locks the doors early. Multiple times I've tried to run over there after work trying to get in and out before they close only to find the doors already locked. Tonight I saw they're open till 11pm. Walked up to locked doors at 10:30 and figured maybe they changed hours so I called on the way home and asked if they were still open. The guy who answered said "for about 10 minutes" trying to discourage me from coming. It was 10:35 when I called. They also don't do great of wrangling carts and NEVER baskets by the doors. Pretty sure I've never written a negative review before but this Safeway makes me inner Karen come out. I go to this Safeway on occasion because it's walking distance from my residence. Complaint #1 is getting harassed by loiterers outside the front. I don't feel safe going here after dark. #2 They are selling expired products here. This current remodel of the store is just absurd. No customer service. Long lines. Price gouging. Pricing groceries out of our range. They've cut out products and shrank the store down to seasonal items filling walls where groceries used to be. Weeks of empty shelves and empty coolers. I've lived in this neighborhood for 22 years and every year whaI ask: how can this store get worse: and every year it gets worse. It's dirty, it's stocked poorly. Long lines. Terrible management. This is one of the worst grocery stores in town, and unfortunately, it is convenient and close by. I stop here just to get a few things, or if they have a sale. You cannot rely on them for anything. The produce department is unreliable and bakery items are sometimes still raw and gooey. This store is really dirty, most of the employees, and even some of the managers do not seem to care or want to help you. On a recent trip, I asked a manager a question, when he was talking on the floor, joking around with another employee. Instead of helping me, or taking me to someone who could assist, he simply pointed, and told me to ask someone else, and continued talking about his weekend. So many products here are also outdated, so when you come here, it can't always be a quick trip for a few things, as so much is outdated. This could be a gem, and a gold mine, considering the location and convenience, but instead, it is a disgusting place that will probably end up being closed within another year or two. read more

the WORST! I placed a pick up order and waited around until until I received the email or text that my order was ready to pick. The order window pick up time was from 5-8pm. I called around 7:30 to check in on the status of my order and the associate who picked up the phone said we have no orders for you, and the person who does these orders went home and hung up. Now I have no groceries and have to wait for next day to either re order ( not ordering from safeway) and figure out a refund because no one communicated with me my order was not going to be fulfilled. I try to give chance after chance this Safeway but I keep getting disappointed by whole experience every time. read more

Disgusting. The produce selection is atrocious. There is food all over the floor & some green slime growing on the produce shelves. (See picture) I'm also certain that they place "damaged" items first on the shelves so that they can get rid of them. 4 things that I grabbed were damaged. Jello pudding, can of soup, box of honey bunches of oats, & rice a roni. I caught all but the rice a roni before I put it in my cart. Not cool. Why is this crap allowed from such a well known supermarket? Aren't there any sort of standards they must upkeep? read more

I love this grocery store since it's so close to my house. You can't beat the price of the gas, but that's if someone doesn't come up to you asking for spare change while pumping. I was once talked into helping a man fill some gas into his gas guzzling Cadillac. Needless to say, there are several characters hanging around this Safeway. The employees are really helpful and nice people. I would give it 5 stars, but sometimes I've noticed products being sold past or near their their expired dates. read more

Maybe the worst Safeway I've ever visited in the United States. Real shame because Safeway is usually a solid go to for general groceries or last minute BBQ items. Parking here is atrocious. From finding a spot to dodging all of the shopping carts left. Only ever saw someone collecting carts once. Can't count how many times I've gone here but I do remember they magical day someone did their job! Starbucks inside. Soup station. Deli. Sushi. Florist center. All the Safeway staples. Customer service here is non existent. They also close most lanes about an hour if not two before posted closing times. Self checkout is usually your only bet and that repeatedly breaks or refuses to register barcode scans. They are well stocked with sale items and all the other the essentials. The frustration finding a spot and then navigating the store and back out without dealing with employees is the trying part. Gas is in the far corner of the parking lot. Average prices and the discount beats the 7-11 across Federal. Save yourself he hassle and purchase from the Walgreens up the street or 7-11 across the way. read more

I'm never coming to this store again. I had a cart full of groceries and about 5 people waiting behind me. After 5 mins of waiting for the cashier to finish ringing up the people in front of me they proceed to tell me the lane was closed... like have a little awareness of your customers and let us know before we all wait?? Also there were no other lanes open so I'm not sure what she was expecting all of us to do besides self checkout. This store sucks. Poor selection, the service and food counters are always closed, they never have anyone at the checkout lines. I lament every time I don't have the few extra minutes to drive to Kingsoopers. Save yourself the frustration and shop elsewhere. Gosh the reviews for this place are bleak. I'll sell you a cup of standard grade, good-as-you'd-want, coffee, and you can either pay me a $1 or $1.25. So which would you rather do? Yeah. Now why should any of us worker bees pay $2.60 a gallon for the same gas they're selling at the Safeway gas station for $2.35. Answer: We shouldn't. We all gotta eat, and we all gotta go food shopping. Get yourself a Safeway Card and buy your gas at their gas station when you're stockin' up the frig. Neat that when I buy 15 gallons of gas at Safeway, I save more than enough $$$ to buy myself a chi-chi latte, and not just a $1 cuppa joe. read more

TERRIBLE. Ads come out on Wednesday. Thursday I went to by an item on sale but you needed to 'buy five' to get the sale price. There were two of the items on the shelf! Manager said they were on the truck but not unloaded and to come back later. I will never go back! King Soopers is much better! read more

As far as grocery store chains go, Safeway is a middle of the road establishment. It's not the nicest, and it's not the worst...It's somewhere in between. Prices are generally competitive, but they do hammer you on some of the more specialty items. As long as you have a Safeway club card, you'll most likely get a pretty decent deal on most everything. This location is in a transitioning area off of Federal, so you get a fairly interesting mix of patrons. The yuppie to bum ratio is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:1. I guess I'd probably fall on the yuppie side of that, since I'm not a bum, but let's not label each other. It's a older store as well, and it's not the cleanest nor the best stocked. My wife, who does not believe in checking expiration dates when she buys things (ain't nobody got time for that) comes home with expired or about to expire stuff pretty regularly. That's more her fault than anything though. read more

Just a really scary experience. Approached by super persistent loiterers begging for money in parking lot. Like literally wouldn't take no for an answer. Guy was clearly taking photos of my friend. Products expired on shelves. Weren't able to provide us a loyalty card and couldn't provide explanation. Romaine had mold on it in case, salmon looked grey ... I'd steer clear. read more

As far as Safeways go, it's fine. I have one suggestion: Please put up a small belt barrier by the self-checkout registers with a sign that says "Please wait here for the next available self-checkout station". People don't know where to wait. Even when there's a line down the aisle, some people claim not to see it. Thanks! read more

This grocery store is the absolute WORST. This has been my neighborhood grocery store for 3+ years now and this review has been a long time coming. Where do I begin? - Parking is extremely limited and I always feel like I am about to get hit by a Chevy truck - I get accosted by a bum or pan-handler just about every-other visit asking me for bus-fare to Boulder. -The produce selection is awful and typically in rough shape -They seriously struggle with inventory/stocking here, they are always out of at least 2-3 (normal) things on my grocery list. - They are overpriced compared to King Soopers. - The building itself is very small and you always feel like someone is about to crash into you. - The customer service ranges from non-existent to extremely abrasive (of course there are always a few exceptions) - They typically only have one cashier and literally NEVER have baggers working and I always end up bagging my own. I always end up talking myself into going to this Safeway for smaller lists or when I am pressed for time because it is conveniently located but I've never left this Safeway not being extremely pissed off at myself because I didn't just suck it up and drive the extra 1.5 miles to King Soopers in the first-place like I knew I should have. read more

When you think about Safeway you think about a grocery store that sells a bunch of stuff you could go home and cook. But they had a master baker's in there creating all kinds of culinary delights. One of the best of which is the coconut cake. My friend just brought her over and it is the most awesome thing I have eaten in a long time. I've been to this store dozens of times. I've never had anything but good service here. I always use my Safeway card and I pay attention to sales. There are always lots to find. This location is a frequent stop for gas, and sometimes I hit the really nice Starbucks here too. As others have said, the Starbucks is a nice size and you can often find work space. As far as the produce goes, I think I've never had anything but fresh. The other thing I can say most positive about this store is that they listened to my request and started stocking a particular kind of dog food for me. Much appreciated! read more

This store is just a few blocks from my house and I used to shop there regularly. It was a marginal shopping experience to begin with. Now, this location is not enforcing mask wearing or any sort of distancing practices. I will not be returning until these issues are remedied. I'm going to sound like a whiner or a nut but here goes. It's a good store overall but I always get a lot of suspicion from a few guys who work there. I'm a regular who buys all his groceries from this place but I always seem to attract (in my mind) undue suspicion from a small set of middle aged men there. It's really empty - great! It was easy to find everything quickly. There was an extensive organic selection and ethnic foods. They had some items I haven't found recently in other grocers including golden berries and organic honeycrisp apples. Checking out @ 9:40pm Sunday night, there was one cashier working and 4 of the stations. When one of my items did not ring up with a $2 club discount, the manager checked and gave me the entire cash value of the product (almond ice cream bites - yum!). read more

I used to call this the "Un-Safeway" back when I lived a block from it. Now, that honor goes to the Safeway on 20th and Washington. But I digress. I stopped in here the other day to get ingredients for the banana puddin' I was making for our monthly our-department-doesn't-celebrate-birthdays-anymore-but-here-are-some-sugar-loaded-snacks-in-a-conference-room CELEBRATION at work I actually found everything I needed relatively quickly and was even given a friendly greeting when I walked in. Pretty good prices and options for store brands on everything I needed. Safeway brand nilla wafers will do me just fine. This location even has a gas station - which is rare, especially given the parking lot size. The store is smaller, but updated. The clientele is a fantastic gentrification clash....everything from the Highland mommies and young urban professionals fresh from the gym (or yoga), to the lady in front of me in line who managed to get her grocery total (on a serious bulk hotdog, salad dressing, BBQ sauce, kool-aid purchase) down from $250 to $27 by use of dozens and dozens of coupons. Seriously, this lady was still trying to argue the total down when a gracious clerk took me into her closed lane. I'm pretty sure that this, my friends, is a partial contributor as to why food food prices are on the rise for those of us who don't have hours to devote to clipping coupons. Apparently it pays off more than I thought it did. While the clerks were of the typical disenchanted, jaded variety, I can understand why after standing behind coupon lady. If you're not behind a coupon lady, this store is a breeze. read more

This store is horrible. Safeway in general has terrible service, but this is the worst. So sad as it's walkable from my house, but I avoid at all costs. The help is really sweet, and the produce aisle is good. Prices are good. The issue is that you will typically wait to check out no matter how few items you have. There is NEVER enough help when they need it, leading to extremely long lines and a very frustrating experience. It is so difficult as a customer as I really want to shop here, but it's a miserable experience. Why can't Safeway management correct this incessant issue? It's really inexcusable, and it's why I give it one sad star, along with everyone else who visits. Fix this simple problem Safeway!! read more

Uuuuughhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Anyone else notice the substantial uptick in Lucerne products at Safeways? It's Safeway's cheap brand- and the volume of these products is starting to make me uncomfortable. Look, I know that it's a trend now for grocery chains to actually produce food as well as sell it, but when the "Lucerne" brand starts pushing out the products I want (ie: Seventh Generation dish soap) and putting their own "Natural Soap" in its place, I get the icks. To not even offer the competitor's products reeks of a very nasty monopoly. I want to be able to buy products from diverse vendors. Seeing as though Safeway is rapidly becoming a Lucerne-only spot, I'll soon be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I smaller sized store, this Safeway stocks a lot of Hispanic food groups. The neighborhood it is in is heavily Hispanic area, so that makes sense. Look here for many of the unusual need for mexican cooking, and they're sure to have it. They also have a really nice meal bar, with plenty of nice things to take home and eat. I like the crew that works here, they're friendly and helpful, and go the extra distance to make sure you find and get what you need. A good store. read more
