My relationship with this Safeway continues to be complicated. I had sworn off going to the store earlier this summer when for the second time in a row, I was in a line about 25 people deep at 6pm on a weekday, and only one cash register was open. (One day I waited for over 40 minutes just to check out.) Admittedly, most of my friends already made it clear I was crazy for continuing to frequent this store, but I feel pretty damn strongly about supporting the only grocery store in this neighborhood, so I persisted. Nevertheless, it became clear that the Safeway corporation was not respecting these employees by appropriately staffing the store, and I decided I would stop going entirely. Fast forward a few months, and the Safeway employees went on strike. I was pretty encouraged, supported the effort, and hoped for the best. After things were resolved, I decided to give the store a shot again, and pretty quickly it became clear that staffing the registers was still not a priority. Admittedly, I really don't understand how Safeway thinks this is a profitable maneuver--in order to spend money, consumers need to be able to check out. And guess what, if you're buying more than a few items, a self-checkout is not workable. But apparently this is the corporate game. I do want to give a shoutout to the stalwart employees who have persisted despite these tribulations. I'm always happy when I see Terri at the register or Bryan at the meat counter. Employees like them make all the difference here. I just wish they had better support. read more

I shop here I don't know four times a week. The store gets a real bad rap, and like if you shop here you know where the reputation is coming from, but it's really not that bad. Some of the employees can be a little rough around the edges I guess, but they're always really nice to me and I see them putting up with it with a lot of BS from some pretty obnoxious customers. And I know they're putting up with a lot from Safeway corporate management as well, so in light of all that I think that the people here are great. the reason I keep coming here because it's a Safeway and they got stuff you can't get at a lot of other grocery stores. The reason a lot of people are skeptical about this store is because there are sometimes some shady characters in the parking lot. That tends to feed speculation, I have witnessed some minor and petty crimes and if that's something that's absolutely intolerable for you I guess my thinking is a man you're in the city. I have one complaint about this store, and it's probably not what you're gonna see in most of the reviews. Because of the high rate of theft they've got like a sub store inside the store. If you wanna buy any cosmetics OTC medication's anything like that you have to use this stupid sub store. There will only be one checker. There will always be somebody in line in front of you who is taking 20 minutes to check out. I have considered on more than one occasion just walking out with my groceries and going to check out at the regular check stand. Like seriously what are you gonna do? Safeway in Sidney Ne. Stole $40+ from us, the card reader didn't ask for our phone number so we were charged non member prices for our groceries. Took our receipt in and they gave us a whole $11 back on a $160 member only purchases. Needless to say, we'll be Walmarts new food customer. read more

Neoma is the most rude person I've encountered here. Something really should be done about the attitude she gives customers. Absolutely no greeting and when greeted she acts as if she didn't hear you, which is fine if that's her way of life, but huffing and puffing when throwing my food into bags is just down right UNACCEPTABLE. Wow, post pandemic this location is still suffering. A merger with King Soopers would do this place some good. Shelves are constantly empty. Cooler/freezer doors broken, cracked or missing. Produce is constantly in a disarray although I see them stocking. Assortment doesn't match the changing demographics of the local area. This location had a huge remodel During the pandemic which I thought would be the change that was needed but the place already looks run down and worn out. The deli area is gross when you start to look closely. The service is a mixed bag. Many of the tenured checkers are nice and efficient but the younger staff are worthless. They just sort of lounge around. Chatting. Bitching loudly about their pay and positions. The restroom is hit or miss but only reserved for worst case need. lol The pharmacy is a bright spot. Nice people. They are swamped nonstop but quick to get what you need. Lots of parking. Shopping carts are back and plentiful thanks to fewer people in the street. Overall, they have lost our staples business to King Soopers. We go here only when we need something quick and don't want to drive the extra distance to KS. The entry way flooded with dauntless homeless, security ubiquitously patrolling the parking lot, this "Safe"way is a bit misnomer. Sure, these urban dwellers might felch a bag of groceries and cause a pandemonium of cops to the scene, but it's not 100% bad. One noteable perquisite is they sell some prime poultry seasoning mix with fresh sage - perfect for when I dicker with the spirits and ward them out of my studio apartment. I absolutely hate coming here. I used to look forward to grocery shopping every week until this Safeway became my local store. Due to the group consistently loitering, cat calling, heckling, etc. outside, I will only ever come here in broad daylight for safety reasons, yet still get creeped out; walking through the parking lot is never comfortable. The meat and deli counters are both struggles. Any time I have ordered something from the deli counter, nobody has been in line ahead of me, and I have still consistently waited about 7-12 minutes for the staff to prepare a simple order like a pound of deli Turkey. On more than one occasion, I have ordered chicken breasts from the meat counter, only to come home and find they are rancid, same day as purchase. One time an individual working in the meat department actually told me not to eat the chicken that was packaged for me by another individual behind the counter. Big yikes. Don't be surprised if your produce is moldy once you get home either. Inventory on the app is rarely up to date, so you can't trust that something showing as "in stock" on the app is anywhere to be found in the store. Then again, actually finding an employee to ask is a feat in and of itself. I've walked out of here empty handed multiple times because I simply couldn't find a staff member to help me find what I was looking for. Can I score a zero? The absolute worst Safeways in the Denver area. The employees are rude, not helpful and make you thing you are privledged to be served by me. I was at this Safeway today. There were about 29 people in the self check out line 10 people in the you can't leave without paying line and another 15 in the employee check out line. Do you think they opened anymore customer service lines? No, they opened up more self service lines and get this - THEY DIDNT WORK! Despite the filth in the front entrance, the cigarette smoke you need to walk through to get inside, the overall dangerous feel of this location, and the security who would rather be on their phone than secure the property I continued to go because it was convenient. Last week, I took a long-time employee's advice, so thank you. His help gained a star in my rating. The employee was opening a register for me rather than using self-checkout. I am not a fan of self-checkout because it makes me feel like an employee rather than a customer. I cracked a joke about not having to do his job this time, trying to be funny. The employee said, "You are always so negative, always a negative comment". It was a joke, but more importantly, I was supporting humans rather than machines - so this employee's job. When I mentioned it was a joke in support of his job he said, "I have been here for 34 years I am not losing my job." I tried again by reminding him that I am supporting humans checking us out rather than machines. He said, "If you don't like it go somewhere else." I thought, you know what you are right, I should go somewhere else." Thank you to that employee for pushing me to change my grocery store chain. Your competitor is saving me money, is cleaner, has a lot more selection of products, has better-stocked shelves, and is safer. Thank you! I went up to the Safeway Customer Service on West Colfax in Lakewood, Co to obtain cash and the guy/gal with the fushia hair was so rude to me. I wanted to shop there because of the Kingsoopers strike. Every question I asked him he said idk what does it say on key pad. I said this is quite different than Kingsoopers and he said obviously it's a different store and he didn't even say thank you and he/she tried to belittle me. My daughter approached and witnessed his/her rude behavior and told him he should not treat senior citizens that way and she spoke to the manager who was very nice and understanding. I didn't do my shopping there because of his attitude and neither did my daughter. Safeway is losing money by hiring people without customer service experience. UNsafeway has gotta be the biggest disaster of a grocery store I've ever seen. This location is notorious for junkies crawling about and harassing customers on their way in and out of the store which security (when they have it which isn't often) does nothing about it. Starbucks is insanely unpredictable cause they're closed half the time during business hours. They never have what i need on the shelf especially in tbe frozen sections. EVERY time I get meat from tbe butcher, it's either rancid or a day away from expiration. Plus I've seen the butcher himself not changing his gloves in between cutting meat and touching other stuff. There are never enough employees working so the lines are ridiculously long. And now they're apparently on strike?? Safeway has not found a new way to punish the innocent for the sins of the guilty. Don't support it. Recently, Safeway moved all of their most stolen products (including necessities like shampoo, toothpast, aspirin and antacids into a restricted area with a dedicated check out lane. Let's call it a prison store within a grocery store. I get that they have a lot of theft, but this idea is ludicrous. The bright minds at Safeway have not figured out how to allow folks to buy what they need then go and shop for everything else. Want a tube of toothpaste. Be prepared to wait in a long line while everyone checks out with the one person working with ALL their groceries. If there isn't a more blatant example of punishing the inocent for the sins of the guilty, I can't imagine it. It's also racist and discriminatory for peopole from disadvantaged economic backgrounds. I am priviledged - I can go to King Soopers which I now do, despite having to drive instead of walk. But many in my neighborhood do not have that luxury, and are at the mercy of Safeway saying if you want this stuff, we don't care if you are going to waste hours and hours of your life in our prison within a store. Don't support it. Write to Safeway Corporate. Write to the Denver post tip line. Shame them into finding a solution that is not so punative to honest people. I work and lived in this Community for over 10years. Security Guard at Safeway in photo is not fit for duty. Myself and a friend walked in Safeway to get Cigarettes and some food. Jessica being my Cashier at the time 12:52pm. What company does this armed Security Guard in the photo belong to? I need to speak with them as well. Security Guards at this Location, many Customers can agree it is hostile and aggressive. Around 1pm, this particular ARMED Security Guard walk towards me as I was walking out with aggressive and said "I'm getting you banned because people are following you". Security Guard stated , I'm a trouble maker and he knows about me". I asked him what did he mean? I told him I don't steal, I don't harass, and I dont threaten others. I told him im not a threaten. I stated I was talking with a friend of mine and he said he didn't care. He stated: If people are following you, you can get banned. I explained no one said anything like that. He said he didn't work for Safeway. He stated you cannot get me fired. I don't know what this Man was talking about. His demeanor was uncalled for and confusing. This is a grocery setting, not a probation or prison setting. I stated to the Security Guard, he has to abide by policy. I explained to the Security Guard, I also too have my Guard Card License and this is a Family Environment. He said he didn't care and it didn't matter. I explained he was creating a Toxic Work Environment by walking up to me aggressive being Armed. He said it didn't matter and he was getting me banned. I asked for a Customer Service representative. Jessica, Manager came. This Security Guard walks to her and when I walk up, the security guard put his hand on his holster, put his hand up in arms length, and said back up I'm talking to her. I told the Security Guard I asked for a Store Manager. He said he didn't care. I backed up, and waited. She, and I'm not sure if Store Manager, but I know she was. She recognized me and my friend, given we pay quite a bit of money in the Store and Community. I explained everything stated above that I'm stating to the Manager. She understood completely. All that is asked is professionalism, especially when carrying a fire armed in a family setting. I'd like someone to explain to me, why we continue as community members who actually pay for products and work in the community, why are we being aggressively approached with individuals with firearms. I need a correspond with someone with Upper Management, or Store Owner to rectify or explain to me why is this continuing law abiding citizens who are customers and community memebers. I've shopped here for years because I live in the neighborhood. It's just so bad, I can't take it anymore... I've raised the white flag and vowed to not go back. Over the years the lines have gotten longer, the shelves barer. Their healthy eating options are limited and often out of stock. These days it's 50/50 whether they even have bananas. The latest thing is they've taken away shopping baskets, so you either have to carry items or use a giant cart (most of which have at least one nonworking wheel). Please someone buy out this grocery story and revamp it. read more

I am constantly being overcharged at this store on digital coupons. Not sure if it is the computer program or the store. If brought to the attention of the store personnel I am told that I must not have downloaded the digital coupon or have already used the coupon. Neither are accurate. Yes I unfortunately am going to be a Karen and review this Safeway but only because the last three times I have gone there have been 0 carts which honestly I just find insane... Now you're probably wondering why don't you just grab a handheld basket and I will tell you why. I am a psycho plant lady that has an abundance of plants in my apartment; many of which are tropical plants that need humidity. I have two humidifiers running 24/7 to make sure my plant bb's are getting the humidity they need, not too mention it's good for our skin too. Well if you run a humidifier yourself you know they need distilled water to make sure all the impurities in the water aren't being dispersed into your air/ you are breathing those in!!!! Hence why I go to the store about every 3 days or so to buy 8-10 gallons of distilled water....a fairly long winded explanation of why I actually need a Cart and a handheld basket will just not suffice! Look I'm not a monster, I understand that in the area this Safeway is located there tends to be a higher homeless population; however businesses, especially big businesses such as Safeway have a budget for theft and loss. It's an Unfortunate fact that certains stores require a higher budge due to their location...that is just a part of running a business. They need to be upping their monthly, quarterly, weekly (I don't know how often they buy carts) cart order, or pay the money to install those anti theft things or SOMETHING. To me it's pure insanity that a grocery story is unable to offer their shoppers carts...like isn't that a given that it will be needed when grocery shopping. Sheesh. Yes I am fired up because I value my time, and the first time I spent about 15 minutes hunting the parking lot trying to be the first to hound down one of the lucky few that was able to secure a cart. But the second two times I ended up just leaving and honestly it ends up just being a waste of my time and energy. Phewwwww I'm gonna be honest I'm glad I got that off my check. When we moved in we were excited there was a grocery store so close to home. Little did we know... this Safeway *never* has carts, you have to chase other customers that were lucky to find one. The overall appearance is old and dirty. Additionally, there's always sketchy people in the parking lot, I wouldn't recommend coming here after dark. This Safeway has gotten increasingly worse with loitering due to Covid, even since my recent move to the area. My main complaint is that I've started seeing a trend of people trying to camp out and sleep in the Bank of America ATM. This isn't internally attached to Safeway, so I don't necessarily feel comfortable getting cash there. I have gotten catcalled at this location as well. That being said, all of the Safeway employees have been very friendly and good natured when I've had a chance to interact with them. Jan 2019 9:30am. 65+ No carts in store. Couldn't locate outside nearby. Employee said they had 5 carts as homeless use plyers to unlock wheels and steal?! (So...they carry tools to work on tents???) We decided it was our LAST visit. Used 2 carry-baskets. The heat was turned OFF (mentioned to an employee with arms crossed and acknowledged it was cold so is this IS our last experience)... too bad as it is remodeled inside... at least there were hardly any customers... and only 1 (live) human-checker... experience SUCKED! Ordered online and requested items such as half gallon of milk, they delivered 2 x half gallons at 50% discount with three days expiration date. So I basically paid the same price, but received something that I didn't want that would expire way before I could use it. They also left many items off the list and replaced items with similar products. Have tried this service 4-5 times now to see if it was a once of, but it has been horrible every time. read more

I have always loved Safeway for their high-standards of cleanliness and organization, however due to the homeless population around this location, it is difficult to enjoy your surrounds or really feel safe in the store. I will say, they do put a small amount of effort into making you feel a tad safer with security guards. While this Safeway does have its shady characters that are always hanging outside of it and creepy men cat calling every female that walks in, the staff are at least friendly... though it is severely understaffed. As someone who used to shop at Safeway in DC, trust me this place is A-OK. I will advise, however, to not get anything from the "fresh" seafood section. I got some bay shrimp on Sunday and by Monday they were rotten and gag inducing. Dont worry, i spit it out. I also saw some moldy cheese. So make sure to give your cheese a good looksie. Overall its not a bad Safeway and tbh there arent many other options nearby, so take what you can get, i guess. And occasionally there are cops patrolling the area, so it's not completely unsafe. read more

AMAZING UPGRADE!! Safeway has remodeled this location with spectacular results! I had the best shopping experience today. I had no idea it had been so nicely remodeled, so it was a pleasant surprise. The new bulk foods area is super nice. Fruits and veggies were plentiful, fresh and well displayed. Lots of extra details that are subtle. I hit up the new Starbucks also. My checker was frequently and helpful. read more
