Prices very unclear. I went there twice. While they did my gel nails, they kept her waiting with her feet in the water for 45 minutes before starting. Then, they cut her foot. On my second visit, they just couldn't get my daughter's polish right. After 3 tries, we gave up. Being diabetic, I have avoided getting a pedicure for many years. I see a podiatrist every 8 to 10 weeks, and he has always done a very nice "pedicure." I'm prone to ingrown nails. It's important for diabetics to see podiatrist regularly, especially for an annual (or more often if needed) diabetic foot checkup. My toenail growth is sporadic. Sometimes a couple of months with no discernible change. But the past 3 weeks they had an uncomfortable growth spurt; my sheets were endangered. So, as I was between foot doctor appointments, I went to Safety First . I had gone there years back and liked the experience. The people are very nice. When my feet were near finished, the owner chatted with me, admonished me for not telling them upfront that I am diabetic. She said They do not cut diabetic toenails "short," which is what I'd asked for. Also, she said, it is important to know if a customer is diabetic so they can be prepared in case of a bleed. Not only did I not have any bleeds, but the pedicurist got all of my ingrowns. I had not expected that. She also did a very thorough job, much more so than my podiatrist. (Well, doctors, you know, are allowed about 15 minutes per patient.) And my foot doctor often, but not always, encounters a bleed. Ingrown nails can be tricky. I think from now on, I will divide my foot care between podiatrist and Safety First. I am more than pleased with the pedicure I got there last Wednesday. read more

I was charged $105 for a mani and pedi with no polish, plus gel removal on my hands. I made a mistake by walking in without reading the reviews, but all of them are true. I still left a $10 tip because I felt bad and was in shock. The 20-minute massage was painful, and multiple fingers and toes are raw. I should have left when I noticed there was no plastic liner in the pedicure tub and the water looked dirty. The gel removal was also very rough. I'm too much of a people-pleaser to get up, and I felt bad because it was an elderly woman, but she swindled me. There were no prices posted anywhere in the store, so the cost was unclear, yet she added an extra $10 and immediately asked for cash. I tipped anyway because I've never not tipped, but I would never go back. I honestly don't know how they stay in business--this felt like straight-up robbery. The last time I went. It was for a deluxe pedicure with an extended massage. When it was time for the massage, they woke up an old woman who worked there and was napping in a chair and her "massage" consisted of her running her finger tips up and down my legs. -it was not a massage. It was awful and the entire time that poor grandma was trying her best, I was thinking about how much money I was wasting at this establishment. I'd give a negative star if I could! The only reason I went back here is because I needed a pedi and a quick wax on a lunch break. I did swear off them years ago. First, the technician was making faces and making rude comments about my feet. She did just an "okay" job. I also had an eyebrow and lip wax. The major issue came during payment. Then it dawned on me the huge reason I gave up on them several years back! There is NO service menu with cost. It appeared as if the woman in front of me was negotiating. That's when I saw the sign I have posted here! Read bullet points 3 and 4 regarding their tipping "policy"!!! WTH!! If you don't tip accordingly, you will receive a surcharge on your next visit! I chose Safety First based on the name- it struck me that they would likely be careful and very clean, and it proved true. Their space is light, airy, and open, and in general just feels clean. They also have a lot of pedicure and manicure chairs so they can accommodate a crowd. For not having had a pedicure in ages my technician was able to handle my ticklishness well, and over all was attentive and nice. She was careful and she gave a leg massage that was unexpectedly good. It had been a stressful week and the leg message was one of the few moments I found myself relaxing, which I appreciated. Just from observing the flow of the salon I could tell they had good report with their regular clients and that Safety First is a very professional and well run establishment. read more

I will never go here again! They charged me $110 for a gel manicure and pedicure. I got BASICS, nothing extra except the gel. It was $30 alone just to take gel polish off of a couple of my toes and they didnt tell me before hand that they would charge for that, so I was blind sighted when I went to pay. On top of that, i just really did not enjoy myself at all! The women were pushy and rude, and the lady doing my nails wasnt even taking care to round my nails nicely. She even pulled on a hangnail instead of just snipping it which was painful and the easiest way to cause a tear! I should have known there was going to be trouble from the beginning when I heard a customer from the other side of the room say "you cut me!" Visiting from out of town, I blindly walked into "Safety First " for a gel manicure. Seated right away, I was pleasantly greeted by the staff , and then the magic began. My nails were done perfectly. The technician swiftly trimmed the cuticles,painted my nails and finished the job with a lovely hand massage. That was yesterday,may 31st. Today, I'm taking my adult daughter back to "safety First " where we will indulge in a spa pedicure. Seriously? You are the most expensive place in the area and you are not interested in credit cards? And we get a lecture on how much the cc takes from the payment. You take credit cards. Safety first? I don't think so. Well, I'll start on the few positives of this place. Staff was pleasant, it appears clean, and they have a cute little waiting area with coffee and tea. However, it doesnt make up for the following things: During my manicure my thumb and middle finger were cut. Seems like they do this to a lot of their customers (should've looked at their Yelp reviews before going). This is concerning. I truly hope their tools are autoclaved, or else they are at risk for spreading blood borne infections. Not something I'd want to chance ever again. I came in with my mother-in-law and we both got a manicure, spa pedicure, and eyebrow wax. The spa pedicure came with an extra massage and it was fabulous! The location is very clean and they make it a point to only use new tools per customer. It's also the first place I've been to that disposes the wax tool after each dip. The quality of service and products they use is excellent. They even offer wine with service. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building. They have a back door that is open on Fridays and Saturdays. I don't get my nails done regularly mostly because I haven't found a place I was willing to commit to, but it's safe to say I will be back here. Also, after January 1, 2014 they will have an upstairs available for spa parties that hold up to 40 people. read more

I am very picky about how my nails done and this is the only place I will go for my gel manicures. The staff pays very close attention to detail and everything is very clean. They do an amazing eyebrow wax as well, $40 for both. There is coffee and tea in the waiting area and there is always bottled water if you are thirsty. Safety First tops the charts for me in terms of quality however there is room for improvement in terms of service. IF YOU ARE RUNNING LOW ON TIME THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. If you have made an appointment, be sure to let them know upon your arrival so you aren't kept waiting. The workflow is very disorganized and they are usually very busy - you will likely wait twenty minutes or so. As far as staff, they are very talented but not as polite as one would like. There are some true sweethearts working but the owner is fairly abrasive and you can tell not everyone gets along. Patience is a must at this location but I'm more concerned with how well my nails are done and how long they will last. Safety First is my go to nail salon in terms of quality but if you're looking for a quick or relaxing experience I would go elsewhere. read more

Well this was an unexpected treat! My 25-yo daughter wanted to treat me to a belated bday gift -- Mom and Daughter pedicures. Not easy to find a place in the city open on Sundays, but we decided to try this shop. She selected the Pearl Pedicure (fancier, longer, and more $$ than the average.) The mother and daughter who did our pedicures did 5-Star work! I have some icky toenails and Gina happily worked on them until they looked quite lovely. So I get married this weekend. My bridesmaids and I assumed to be goin into the salon, get the basics and enjoy the time together. We were the only ones in the building, and they separated us from top and bottom floor. Strange but okay.. then the woman insisted I get gel. I personally don't like the UV lights, they hurt me and I'd prefer a full set. The woman repeatedly told me if I don't get gel they won't look good. I said thanks but no thanks and she said my nails will chip in 3 hours if o don't get gel. Again, no thanks (but maybe get nail polish that won't chip?) I've been on the hunt for a new nail salon for some time now. I decided to try safety first, and was pleasantly surprised. My only issue was with the wait time... but in their defense, I took a long time to pick a color and other people arrived after me so I lost my place as of consequence to being indecisive. The salon was clean and new, and they also used new/prepackaged nail clippers etc. I liked their selection of colors. Also, the salon didn't smell like carcinogens so that's a huge plus. The lady who did my nails was meticulous and cleaned up my entire finger (no hangnails or rough skin left). My manicure lasted 2 1/2 weekend until I unconsciously pulled them off while watching a suspenseful movie. I plan on going back and will do a second review. So far so good. Tldr; -clean salon, disposable/new nail tools (my nail tech opened a new packet of tools so I'm assuming that's what they do for everyone) -generally quick service -nails lasted the expected amount of time -no strong odor of chemicals -enough space so you don't feel like a sardine -staff was friendly - good service read more

The nail tech butchered the shape of my nails I've never paid so much for such ugly nails.
