What a fun place! We stopped in here after a day of hiking the canyon. We expected a quick sandwich and drink but got so much more. I enjoyed a wine flight. The outdoor space had plenty of shaded tables, a stage with a live performer, a playground for kids, and an enclosed space for dogs to do their business (including poop bags and trash can). Great place to refuel yourself after a hike in Palo Duro canyon. I had the McMonkey breakfast sandwich. It's similar to a McMuffin but 10 times better. They also have some really good coffee. Smooth enough to drink black. I saw they have a great selection of beer on tap too. They also have some really cool Sad Monkey merchandise as well. I ended up buying a couple hats and stickers. They have camping food and supplies if you're camping in the canyon. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

This is a great place to have practically right at the entrance to Palo Duro State Park. I feel like the park just wouldn't be the same without it here. If you're camping long term in the park and using Verizon, you may know by now that you don't get much for a signal down in the canyon. Sad Monkey makes a great place to come to close by and sit with a drink and work through those notifications. They have a lot of resupply for camping, including a large spread of frozen, chilled, and shelf stable foods and snacks to keep you fueled. If you're looking for something where you don't have to do the prep work yourself, they have a bar with ample beer and hot food to choose from. I particularly liked that they have apple cider available - just right for the fall timing. There are lots of tables and a circle of cushy seats with a couch in the back. But don't forget the merch including shirts and more to memorialize the time you spent here. Staff has been helpful but otherwise they pretty much stay out of your business. It's an order at the counter situation, so no table service. Place your order, pick your seat, and wait for them to call your name or number. This is a must-stop for anyone visiting the park. read more

We absolutely loved Sad Money Mercantile! My dog and I first stopped by for a coffee and a pup cup before heading out to hike Palo Duro Canyon. The staff was so friendly, and the vibes were amazing. When our Jeep wheeling plans got rained out the next day, we decided to go back -- this time for live music and lunch -- and somehow it was even better than the first visit! We got the chance to chat with the owners, hear some of their stories, and once again soak in the great atmosphere. My husband got an iced coffee, my daughter got a tshirt, my son got some bubble gum, and my other son got a clean restroom! :) My sons were also jealous that there weren't any souvenir shirts their size. Their freezers were empty so, as RV-ers, their claim to camp supplies and groceries left a little to be desired. Nice store near the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, just about the time you remember what you forgot. We stopped in twice and got sandwiches for lunch in the park (very tasty), waste bags for our Chihuahua's "droppings", ice cream, a pocketknife and sodas. That's an idea of the eclectic selection. This was the best stop in the area. Make sure to visit. They have high quality, artistic and curated gifts, souvenirs, books, art work, camp goods and food. This is not your run of the mill mass produced tourist crap. The people in the store were friendly and helpful. They had things we needed and we found lots of cool things we wanted. Great views! Good working WiFi! We were told local cabins were stocked, they weren't. We were able to get plates utensils etc reasonable priced especially considering where we were. Some of our best and most favorite gift came from this stop. We will be back next time! read more

It's a vibe. A locally owned modern market just outside the PD Canyon entrance. A great place to stop on your way in and out of the park. Space for the kids to play and parents to rest while grabbing a bite to eat and even enjoying an adult beverage. The shop has unique souvenirs as well. I wish I was staying longer to check out some of their upcoming weekly events. Can't recommend this place enough to all visitors in this area. Fun place to hang out, have lunch and a beer after your trip to the Palo Duro canyons. Everyone is very friendly, and got their recommended jalapeno turkey club which was great. This review doesn't do the place justice. Such a great place to stop on the way in, out, or near Palo Duro. Camping gear, convenience foods, drinks, but a more upscale feel with the "monkey bar" inside. There you can get coffee, wine, and beer on tap. There's clothing, books, art, and plenty of gift/souvenirs to buy as well. Bathrooms- were clean and tidy. Service was friendly and thoughtful as well. There's supposed to be a event venue behind the mercantile, where food trucks and things can pull up- super cool area for an event, away from any light pollution or city noise, from what I could tell. All in all, super cool place. I bought a cute card with watercolor print from a local artist to remember the place by. Cute shop with well curated items and really cool merch, however, missing a few basics (aluminum foil, baby powder). It's a little pricey for what it is but, with the location its understandable. I wish they opened a little earlier in the morning as I've already had my morning coffee long before their doors are open.
