Cute stop near Palo Duro Canyon State Park. We stopped in on our way back to Amarillo. Gift shop items include shirts, candles and other quality items. Counter service cafe menus are located by the order counter. Grab one, make your selections then go up to order. There are several coffee drinks, fresh brewed iced tea (and hot), finger foods, sweets, sandwiches and pizza. We were given a number that flashed and vibrated when our meal was ready for pick up. Food and beverages were all good. The frosting on the lemon loaf was very sweet. The loaf was moist and fluffy. Good portion of jalapeno poppers from the snack section of their menu. Those were a dollar off during their 'happy hour'. Oh yes, wine and beer also available. A very good guitarist was playing during our visit. Free water at the coffee station. Driveway and parking are dirt. Outdoor patio overlooking the landscape. read more

Stopped by after riding horses next door because we were hungry. Worked up a sweat on the heat, got the frozen rose slushy! Amazing. Nice and sweet notes of pineapple and strawberries. Couldn't taste alcohol, so could be dangerous lol! For food I got black bean patty melt. Delicious! Been trying to eat healthy so I have this a shot. They have a gift shop and some longhorns to see our in the back. Great place to hang. Made new friends here too. read more

Where else can you drink, eat, watch the World Cup, listen to music, get a tattoo and the kids get a place to play. Seems like a really nice vibe in the relatively empty area. read more

Great beer, really nice patio area, yummy snack boxes, and maybe the BEST latte I've ever had! Great little spot for a quick bite or beer when hiking at palo duro. read more

This place was so cool to visit! They sell all kinds of candy, camping gear, to-go craft beers, koozies, pencils, toys, books, blankets, all sorts of stuff! The only thing I was disappointed in was the hot food we ordered. It was one pizza, chicken wings and jalapeño poppers. But all the food was frozen stuff that you could buy at any grocery store and heat up in the oven, definitely disappointing. But they have so much potential they need to hire a real cook with some real food and it would be the perfect place to stop and shop and have a nice dinner before heading down to the canyon. read more

What a fun place! We stopped in here after a day of hiking the canyon. We expected a quick sandwich and drink but got so much more. I enjoyed a wine flight. They had a good number of wines to choose from. Their beer selection was a nice variety to include a great cider. The pizza was nothing fancy but tasty. We got to bring in the new year (early but so fun) with live music, party favors and a champagne toast! read more

I wish there were more food options. However, it's a super amazing little shop for all your needs as well as yummy wings and sandwiches! They are super dog friendly and have great selection of beer and yummy wine! Definitely a fun place to bring the family! read more

A great little stop for food, drinks, convenience groceries and memorabilia. Had breakfast and coffee and came back for a beer later.

Great place to refuel yourself after a hike in Palo Duro canyon. I had the McMonkey breakfast sandwich. It's similar to a McMuffin but 10 times better. They also have some really good coffee. Smooth enough to drink black. I saw they have a great selection of beer on tap too. They also have some really cool Sad Monkey merchandise as well. I ended up buying a couple hats and stickers. They have camping food and supplies if you're camping in the canyon. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

This is a great place to have practically right at the entrance to Palo Duro State Park. I feel like the park just wouldn't be the same without it here. If you're camping long term in the park and using Verizon, you may know by now that you don't get much for a signal down in the canyon. Sad Monkey makes a great place to come to close by and sit with a drink and work through those notifications. They have a lot of resupply for camping, including a large spread of frozen, chilled, and shelf stable foods and snacks to keep you fueled. If you're looking for something where you don't have to do the prep work yourself, they have a bar with ample beer and hot food to choose from. I particularly liked that they have apple cider available - just right for the fall timing. There are lots of tables and a circle of cushy seats with a couch in the back. But don't forget the merch including shirts and more to memorialize the time you spent here. Staff has been helpful but otherwise they pretty much stay out of your business. It's an order at the counter situation, so no table service. Place your order, pick your seat, and wait for them to call your name or number. This is a must-stop for anyone visiting the park. read more

I loved the atmosphere both inside and outside. They're very dog and kid friendly. The outdoor space had plenty of shaded tables, a stage with a live performer, a playground for kids, and an enclosed space for dogs to do their business (including poop bags and trash can). I had the McMonkey breakfast sandwich which was good but extremely greasy. read more

We had lunch indoors, but outdoor patio looked nice too! Friendly staff! Highly recommend the black bean burger. Large selection of local beer. Really close to Palo Duro Canyon & perfect place to eat after hiking. Lots of interesting merchandise too. Highly recommend! read more

We absolutely loved Sad Money Mercantile! My dog and I first stopped by for a coffee and a pup cup before heading out to hike Palo Duro Canyon. The staff was so friendly, and the vibes were amazing. When our Jeep wheeling plans got rained out the next day, we decided to go back -- this time for live music and lunch -- and somehow it was even better than the first visit! We got the chance to chat with the owners, hear some of their stories, and once again soak in the great atmosphere. They're super dog-friendly, the food was amazing, and the iced lattes are fantastic. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area! read more

Food is decent. Nice outside area and a good selection of craft beer. Regardless off the time expect to stay a while. They are extremely slow. 40 minute wait for a single sandwich. read more

A great little stop. My husband got an iced coffee, my daughter got a tshirt, my son got some bubble gum, and my other son got a clean restroom! :) My sons were also jealous that there weren't any souvenir shirts their size. Their freezers were empty so, as RV-ers, their claim to camp supplies and groceries left a little to be desired. Overall it's worth a fun stop with an eclectic drink and food menu, welcoming and clean atmosphere, but maybe not the camp supplies you really might need so close to the canyon. read more

Nice store near the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, just about the time you remember what you forgot. We stopped in twice and got sandwiches for lunch in the park (very tasty), waste bags for our Chihuahua's "droppings", ice cream, a pocketknife and sodas. That's an idea of the eclectic selection. There is a lot of stuff in a fairly small place. Next trip, I will try the coffee and the craft beer. Recommended. read more

This was the best stop in the area. Make sure to visit. They have high quality, artistic and curated gifts, souvenirs, books, art work, camp goods and food. This is not your run of the mill mass produced tourist crap. The people in the store were friendly and helpful. They had things we needed and we found lots of cool things we wanted. Great views! Good working WiFi! We were told local cabins were stocked, they weren't. We were able to get plates utensils etc reasonable priced especially considering where we were. Some of our best and most favorite gift came from this stop. We will be back next time! read more

It's a vibe. A locally owned modern market just outside the PD Canyon entrance. A great place to stop on your way in and out of the park. Space for the kids to play and parents to rest while grabbing a bite to eat and even enjoying an adult beverage. The shop has unique souvenirs as well. I wish I was staying longer to check out some of their upcoming weekly events. Can't recommend this place enough to all visitors in this area. I'm sure the locals really appreciate something so nice out here also. read more

This is the perfect place to stop on your way in or out of Palo Duro Canyon. It's spacious, abundant and has super clean, new bathrooms! Need snacks for your hike? Check. A few groceries for your camp? Check. Tchotchkes to remember your visit? Check. They also offer gourmet coffee (my latte was creamy and warm to the last drop), beer, art, books and gifts for everyone back home. The place is well curated and cutely merchandised. And there are a tons of spots inside and out to sit and relax, maybe wait out the rain or relax your sore quads after a hike. Super chill. read more

This review doesn't do the place justice. Such a great place to stop on the way in, out, or near Palo Duro. Camping gear, convenience foods, drinks, but a more upscale feel with the "monkey bar" inside. There you can get coffee, wine, and beer on tap. There's clothing, books, art, and plenty of gift/souvenirs to buy as well. Bathrooms- were clean and tidy. Service was friendly and thoughtful as well. There's supposed to be a event venue behind the mercantile, where food trucks and things can pull up- super cool area for an event, away from any light pollution or city noise, from what I could tell. All in all, super cool place. I bought a cute card with watercolor print from a local artist to remember the place by. Made my wind-blown self happy to peruse around after hanging in the canyon most of the morning. Until next time, SMM... read more

What are you doing. Stop reading this and go already! Still reading? Ok, here is my scoop. This place is amazing. I bought a cup, a shirt, and other stuff I didn't need but I didn't want to forget this place. Owners seem really cool, down to earth and legit! They have great visitor recommendations. The beer on tap and the wine is why you go here. Cool food truck, great food, but the beer here is amazing! They have a lot of campers equipment. The friendliness of the staff, their personal local recommendations and the beer on tap is the reason why you go here. This place is so cool. About 5 minutes from Palo Duro Canyon. Stop there.
