Sat down and was greeted rather quickly even though it was pretty packed and hard to see us sit down. We ordered fried mushrooms, fried mashed potato balls, fish and chips and country fried steak. So I went today on opening day of baseball and they had anything but baseball on the tvs. I asked if they could turn on some baseball and the bartender and server looked at me cross eyed not knowing what baseball was or how to turn it on and even surprised it was baseball season. Holy cow are their fried tater mash balls great!! I shoved my face in that plate to get every last bit and then ordered a second order to have as my meal. Cam, the owner, was incredibly kind and chatted with us during our meal. The service was friendly, drinks were refilled, order was correct. The fried pickles didn't seem to have any seasoning in the batter. They weren't awful, just kind of bland aside from the dill. Hubby had a bacon cheeseburger, which he enjoyed, and mashed potatoes, which were lumpy. I had a steak quesadilla. The steak was pretty much all gristle, aside from a couple of pieces. I ended up pulling most of it out. The cheese was good and plentiful, but that's all it was- steak and cheese. Would have been better with some onions & peppers in there. I know when you are a vegetarian on a late night roadtrip through Texas, you aren't going to have too many options. By NO means were we expecting too much on this. We arrived here because per the menu here there were veggie burgers. We go in, nope they don't have that, outdated menu online okay whatever I get it! Order and one of us eats meat the other doesn't, ask for brisket queso with the brisket on the side for myself, cool it gets written down. They come out with the queso with the brisket mixed in, "Hey I am so sorry but we asked for the brisket on the side". Waitress rolls her eyes and sighs as she walks away. Okay. We get new chips its all good. We see the waiters talking about us and staring. Weird. I go to bathroom, cleanish. I walk out of the stall to an employee hotboxing the bathroom with their vape. (Two other people are in the bathroom...) I stop and go "Oh" and she says "Oh you're good, it's okay!" I don't know if she was expecting me to apologize or not. I get out, food is banger it's great but man it's hard to eat when all eyes are on us. Would do 4 stars for the food alone but service was just weird. Employees stared at us like we had 3 heads. This bar & grill makes me wish I was a local!!! I would give them ten stars if I could! During my travels on the road from AZ TO TN, we were in need of some good company and food. We located them off of exit 64 coming into Amarillo. Immediately Brylee, Jim, Jason and Shabi greeted us with warm smiles under their masks and great options for food & drinks. We took a seat at their clean bar and I ordered their arnold palmer, a grilled caesar salad and chicken tortilla soup. The food was made to order with all fresh ingredients. There was no wait and no complaints as they catered to us like we were an old friend. During these days in the aftermath of COVID, it's hard to find a place that feels like home on the road. Not only did J's bar and grill exceed my expectations on quality of food and drinks, which is a bare minimum in my opinion regarding a great yelp review, but they created an atmosphere unmatched to their competitors in the area. With music in the background, a tv flipped to every channel to entertain any personality, and a friendly attentive staff, it was hard not to want to sit back the whole evening. The road was calling us but if I ever cross through amarillo again you can bet I'll stop to see these newly made friends. Stop in, I'm telling you it won't be a disappointment. A small business such as this deserves your support to survive these COVID days. PS. If you get a chance, ask the bartenders for a Pineapple Upside Down shot made with the Bomb city vodka. J's Bar and Grill stops serving their regular menu at 10pm (or it might have been midnight?) but their pizza kitchen it open until 2am. We had hoped a nice local pizza would hit the spot after a long day of driving but ultimately it was a very disappointing affair. Now, I say "their pizza kitchen" but J's website lists it as "Arnie's Pizza Place" at makes it seem like a separate entity (though they are connected with an open wall from the bar to the pizza kitchen.) As we arrived late we called in an order for pizza. We ordered the Nae Nae Pizza (Chicken, Basil, Tomato, Feta) and were told 20 minutes. We arrived after about 30 and walked into the pizza restaurant to find the girl behind the counter cutting big sections of burnt crust off a pizza and throwing them away under the guidance of a coworker gesturing from the customer side of the counter. She took a break from freshening up the look of this pie to come and ring me up. After I paid, she slid the pizza in a box and handed it to me. It was my burnt pizza she was repairing! Annoyed by this but not wanting to make a scene, I opened the box, checked the bottom of the crust, determined it would be edible and went on my way. Upon arriving at the hotel and actually eating the pizza we discovered that there was also not any chicken on it. So not only was the pie badly cooked, it wasn't even made right. I should have asked for another pizza when I saw them doctoring ours up before putting it in the box but also, I shouldn't have to. If you burn a customers order you should remake it without making them ask for it. The center of this pizza was cooked fine and had a good flavor - hence 2 stars. I don't know if it is an issue of lazy staff not wanting to remake an order or of food cost obsessed management that made them try to trim the pizza back to presentable but ultimately it was made badly and then handled badly. It's a shame because it seems like this place could make a good pizza if they just cared a little bit more about the customer experience. Unfortunately they made it clear they don't. read more

Someone had posted a picture of their menu, or maybe I just saw it online, and it showed a lunch size spaghetti plate on the kids menu that said kids or seniors could order it. I'm always game to try another restaurant's spaghetti so one evening when I wasn't that hungry but needed something to tide me over after a late lunch I decided to stop by and try them out. It's a bar type place but I enjoyed it more than some that I've been to. I was seated at a booth, had a nice server, Ella, and was served quickly. It wasn't a huge amount of spaghetti but I didn't expect a huge amount for $5.99. It was good. I might be back to try some of their other food especially what I'm looking for a place that is open later. read more

I'm writing this review almost immediately after being kicked out. So hopefully my non-drunkenness is conveyed through this text. This bar is run by jerks. Stop by pinkys and stay home before you patronize this establishment. I went to drunken oyster instead, better drinks, better environment, better employees, and I felt like I was back home at my regular spot. We did NOT say a word to anybody in the bar. Other than I asked for 4 quarters in exchange for a dollar. Stopped in at J's to catch the Longhorns and USC football game after a long travel day back to TX from CO. The restaurant has a nice, roomy layout and full of big screen TVs as you expect, but the folks serving are super nice and helpful, which makes J's a standout. I shared appetizer of cheese fries w/ jalapeños and a blue cheese burger with my wife. We loved both! The homemade chips we had as a side on burger were good as well. Hubby and I had been traveling on the I-40 and stayed in Amarillo. I wanted a burger but not a chain restaurant burger. We looked this place up and decided to try it. Easy to find off the 40, a local spot as compared to traveler spot. The service was excellent, friendly and fast. The decor was homemade but so was the food! It was a bit noisy due to a rambunctious group in the bar, we were ready to veg out so the TVs playing all around the upper perimeter didn't bother us. I ordered the bacon burger with a change in cheese, no problem at all. Hubs ordered chicken fried chicken with green chili gravy and mashed potatoes. We got fried mushrooms for a appetizer and there were a lot of them with 2 different dipping sauces. My burger was hand patted and the fries were batter dipped and fried crispy, everything was hot, fresh and yummy. The CFC gravy was so delicious, not spicy just super flavorful definitely homemade, the red mashed potatoes were also yummy but a side note to the gravy!!! Prices were very reasonable. We would definitely look this place up again if stopping in Amarillo. read more
