If you're anywhere near Southeast Minneapolis and craving something warm, flaky, and comforting,…read moreDelSur Empanadas is the place to go. I stopped by on a warm evening following the Legacy Cup, and the smell alone was worth the trip -- buttery pastry and savory fillings drifting out the door. The empanadas are the real deal -- perfectly golden on the outside, with just the right amount of crunch before you hit the soft, flavorful center. My favorites were the beef (rich, perfectly seasoned, with just enough spice) and the caprese (melty cheese, tomato, and basil that somehow feels both indulgent and fresh). Not to mention their french fries have that same golden crispy affect as well! Their chimichurri sauce is liquid gold. I ended up dipping everything in it -- no regrets. The staff was friendly and genuinely seemed excited to talk about their food, which made the experience even better. The space itself is cozy and bright, with a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to hang out for a bit, grab a mate or a local beer, and take your time. Prices are super reasonable for the quality -- you can easily have a filling meal for under $15. I do recommend this place however if you want to wash it down with a beverage, be aware of Malcolm yards costs.

It wasn't super flavorful, but it was nice and healthy tasting. FYI, I normally like spinach stuffed foods. The bbq chicken empanada was inedible. The chicken was extremely dry and it reminded me of meat floss. Maybe it was an off day, but I could not justify spending $4 for each of the empanadas.

*AMAZING pizza, great vibes*…read more I have not stopped raving about this pizza since the first time I tried it in 2023! It has such a unique and amazing flavor, with a crispy crust. The empanadas are also delicious. Service is always quick and friendly. The atmosphere in the downtown Minneapolis location is also great.

She then made her rounds around the restaurant, the two hours I was there. I found the presentation completely inappropriate for a restaurant. It felt more like something you would see at a strip club or Vegas nightlife venue than at a restaurant, and it was especially jarring at a 5 PM event. Honestly, I would have found it inappropriate regardless of the time. I'm Latina and all for a good, sexy time. But there is a time and place for everything. Beyond that, the restaurant was extremely crowded and hot, and they were already running out of food. Given the number of people there, the food situation was poorly handled. I also had an issue with my drink charge. It was listed as $9, but I was charged over $11, while my friend was charged only $10 for hers. That inconsistency was frustrating. Unfortunately, between the uncomfortable atmosphere, extreme crowding, heat, lack of food, and billing discrepancy, this was a very disappointing experience. I've since seen other reviews mentioning long waits, and after experiencing the chaos myself, I can understand why.

I will say, I highly suggest getting the 6oz rather than the 12oz. We ordered one 12oz (top right in picture) and it truly did not feel like that much more than the 6oz steaks, for the price and value, I would recommend the smaller 6oz size. For appetizers the Papas Aplastadas are very worth it!! Service was good and ambiance is nice. A cool spot that I highly recommend. We ordered the steak, grilled shrimp, raw oysters, and grilled chicken, and I loved being able to experience a little bit of everything. The presentation of each dish was so thoughtful. The service was excellent, and our servers were genuinely knowledgeable about the menu and able to explain the dishes and make recommendations. That always makes a dining experience feel more elevated. Porzana is definitely the kind of place I'd recommend for a date night or any special occasion. Beautiful food, beautiful atmosphere, definitely an elevated dining experience. On-street parking and valet is also available.

Criollas Pastries makes authentic handmade pastries from South America -- I highly recommend trying…read morethem! My wife found Criollas on Facebook. She's from Peru and she had cravings for some of her favorite childhood pastries, especially Alfajores. We ordered 3 kinds of pastries for a New Year's party. It was my first time trying all of them. They were GREAT! The sweet style pastries are quite a bit different from some of the traditional European-style pastries that we're all familiar with. Paola, the owner, is super friendly and charming. I had a blast talking to her when we picked up our order. She sells her pastries at several farmer's markets around the metro. She also delivers and caters special events. Finally, you can place an order on-line or over the phone and pick it up at her house. Paola operates the business out of her personal house on Gerard Avenue South in Minneapolis. So DON'T just show up at her front door unannounced. But she'll definitely schedule pickups at her house if it's convenient for you. Also, if you do a Google search, her address might come up in White Bear Lake. This is a commercial kitchen (not open to the public) where she makes all of her goodies. She's totally legal with all of the correct licensing, public health training, etc. I grilled her about this when first ordered from her...and she's good-to-go. My only (minor) gripe is her pastries are a little pricey. We got 3 dozen items (12 beef Empanadas and 24 sweet pastries) for $64.00. It was supposed to be $70. But we got a 6 dollar discount (50 cents each) because we wanted the Empanadas uncooked so we could cook them ourselves at our party. If you don't mind spending a little more money on something new, I highly recommend that you try them. You can call, e-mail, or message Paola...or find her at one of the farmer's markets in the summer. Try some Criollas Pastries -- yum!!! -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. I wasn't sure exactly how to categorize Criollas so picked Latin American Restaurant -- Bakery -- Pop Up Restaurant.

What an incredible unexpected surprise!…read more Traveling to Minneapolis and unexpectedly stumbled into this incredible culinary delight! The manner in which the staff made us feel welcomed, was exactly what I would expect from my Cuban Dominican family. From the moment we walked in the door, the warmth and love felt, was similar to how family should feel like. Very well decorated with a Cuban, Dominican vibe. From the multiple patios, to the grills and smokers in the back, it was laid out perfectly. The food was amazing! My son and I started with ordered their Tostones & Chicken Croquetas (choice of either pork or chicken) then, moved onto our main entrees. Everything looked so delicious but we decided to go with their Bistec Encebollado & their Fiesta Caribe (Caribbean Party). The young lady behind the counter suggested their made in-house drinks, the Chinola/Passion Fruit Juice (Parcha/Maracuya) & Tamarindo/Tamarind Juice. These in-house juices were tasty and full of flavor! Every part of our experience, from the customer service and the meal, was incredible. Full of authentic tastefulness and just an absolute joy! Thank you El Cubano, you really made an amazing impression of both of us!

Carefully designed and curated, the interior is wonderfully setup to mirror a little beach vibe. Ordering is done cafeteria style at a register. Menus are available to browse in advance. The staff is extremely polite, encouraging and helpful. The signs clearly advise that this is not a fast food spot (thank goodness) and that all orders are made fresh. Tables exist both inside and out. There is a grab your own water and silverware section. My group dined outside as we had a nice overcast day where it wasn't too hot or too cold. We sat at the adorable yellow table which had a lemon umbrella. Despite ordering inside, the staff will bring items to your table which was such a sweet gesture. We all loved our cubanos and will certainly be coming back. Thank you!!
