Abi's was a nice surprise - such great pupusas! I was looking for a spot with good food and this place has it. The pupusas were perfectly cooked - a nice crispy outer layer with a tender center and savory meat filling. I had a few flavors, but the beef birria was probably my favorite - unique and delicious! I was here for dinner and breakfast and pupusas were available at both meals (although even better with a side of eggs during breakfast). I went tge witb my mom, eager to chdcknin out a Latino owned business in the neighborhood. It was 12:45 or so when we got there and was empty except for one table. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, and we took a seat. Menu looked tasty. It smelled like dead mouse in there. There were big TVs on the walls, the rest of the white walls were decorated with Halloween decorations, and some party lights that were off, making it seem like they must lean on private parties for their revenue. The server was upset nice and helpful. We got a couple that were underwhelming, especiot considering they were priced at $18 and $20. The $20 item was shrimp tacos. We enjoyed our dinner here. The space is brightly decorated with colorful murals. The staff is friendly, helpful, welcoming, and attentive. Our server cheerfully walked us through the menu and gave us recommendations. I ordered three pupusas, and my spouse ordered the traditional Salvadoran meal with plantains, tamales, refried beans, and a pupusa revuelta. All of the food was really good. The fresh pickled curtido nicely complemented the freshly fried pupusas. Our server kindly gave us an extra helping of curtido after we finished ours up. We also had Salvadoran horchata for the first time. It tasted a little nutty and creamier than horchata we've had at Mexican restaurants. I also had a pupusa with loroco, an edible flower with a fresh, snappy taste. I also had spinach and zucchini, but the loroco was my favorite. I also liked my spouse's pupusa revuelta. The only thing that might have made our visit a little nicer would have been another fresh vegetable option on the menu like a side salad. Don't walk, run to this place!! This was my first time here and I am honestly shocked that I haven't heard about them sooner. After a long day of shopping, my girlfriend and I felt a burning sensation for pupusas and did a quick search on Yelp and after reading the reviews and looking at their menu, we chose Abi's. We had two servers, Marina and Victoria who worked hand in hand to provide a true hospitable flow of service to our table. They were prompt and even gave us an update on the status of our order(even though it was served quickly). I ordered chillaqules, pupusas and my gf got the quesabirria. All of which were evidently prepared fresh to order. I have had a myriad of pupusas from all around the metro, and with the highest confidence, I can say the ones I got here, were unmatched. It was packed with flavor, and I loved the red spicy salsa, coupled with the curtido(cabbage and picked veggie slaw). The chillaqules were scrumptious and the eggs that came with paired beautifully. It was worth every bite! The quesabirria that my gf ordered was so yummy and hot that I might've ate more than I should've from her plate, haha. The ambiance was nice and simple, clean and with a dash of bachata music in the background -- which makes for a very festive dining experience. One thing that will also keep me coming back is the private parking available to their customers, as opposed to the (impossible) street parking(which is quite the norm on this side of town). Overall a true 5-star experience and I would definitely keep them in mind when I'm feeling Mexican and Salvadorian food. Compliments to the chef, servers, Abi and the total staff. Our family ate here as an alternative to Thanksgiving this year. Abi was very welcoming and helped us pick some delicious food. We LOVED the pupusas! We had the queso con loroco - delcious! The horchata is homemade and is the perfect combination of slightly sweet and nutty. We also enjoyed the elote and guacamole. Yum! All of it! My friend and I had a random craving for pupusas after shopping. We decided to Google search nearby restaurants that offered this Salvadorian delicacy. We came across Abi's and I remembered that this business had gone viral few years ago due to a beautiful act. Okay now about the food, we ordered the deal of 3 pupusas for $12. I got 2 revueltas and 1 garlic one. They were really good, tasted well-- only thing I did notice on one of them is that the dough wasn't cooked all the way on the thicker edges-- but that's okay, I just cut that part out. The pupusas were still delicious. I ate them all. I left FULL, satisfied and happy with my meal. This uptown location is new, so lots of upgrades yet to be made (according to the owner). The restaurant is basic, but clean and I was promptly greeted and seated by the server who was excellent throughout dinner. I ordered the Flautas and Cheese Papusas and they did not disappoint. The Flautas had a great presentation and were delicious with the optional hot salsa upon request. Abi's 2828 Lyndale Av S. A group of us had breakfast there Sunday morning and it was absolutely terrific. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo . It came with the best fresh chips and scratch made salsa Verde. It was HUGE and delicious. Took half to go for tomorrows breakfast (and it was just as good today, reheated!). Another in our group had a Huevos Rancheros and he said it was a 10 out of 10. One person has special diet restrictions and the chef was able to hear what she needed and whipped up a great custom breakfast. Another in our group had the Birra breakfast burrito and she thought it was great. All the food was clearly scratch made. Mid way through our meal the chef, Abi, came to our table and greeted us. She said she and her partner are from El Salvadore. Her food is authentic, fresh, flavorful, and terrific! It was a great brunch. PLEASE give them a try for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They really could use the business. The restaurant business is hard, and the current business environment for restaurants is terrible. Please, stop in. The chips were properly stale, the beans looked like they'd been scraped from the bottom of the pot, and the food was bland. Our plates were $20 each, and served to us lukewarm, and despite a fully-staffed establishment-- 10 minutes apart. We were not offered any refills, nor checked in on. I wish I had orangutan feet so i could give this a four thumbs down. The upside is that there is a LOT of room for improvement and I believe that they can certainly get there one day. Remember: If you're eating out, please tip well regardless of the quality of service you received. As someone who identifies as Salvadoran, I've been disappointed multiple times in finding authentic food. That ended at Abi's Cafe. They have wonderful staff that are incredibly kind and attentive. During a few visits, I have ordered pupusas revueltas, pupusas de pollo, yuca frita, empanadas de plátano, and papitas salvadoreñas. Every single food has authentic flavour and reminds me of my time in El Salvador every time I visit. The pupusas have tremendous filling, especially given the cost. The yuca was cooked perfectly and plentiful enough for two people to share, which is the same for the papitas salvadoreñas. The empanadas were incredibly warm and with incredible flavor. For drinks, I have ordered horchata and Kolashampan. Both are delicious and again serve as incredible reminders of my homeland. The Kolashampan especially brings incredible nostalgia and taste just like bubblegum cola. Know that the space is small, but the taste and feeling of home is grand. read more

As a recent arrival to East Phillips, I've enjoyed having Abi's just around the corner from my house. The proprietor is quite a character, and the food is pretty good. The name of the game here is pupusas, and they are always good. And cheap - at least comparable with other pupusa places in the area. The curtido are especially flavorful, and a bit more spicy than the other places. Almost like Korean kimchi. Lots of yum for very little $. The experience of eating here could be a little better. Compared to several of the other restaurants around Bloomington and Lake, I just don't always feel completely welcome here. It's not that the service is bad, and it's friendly enough. Bonus: they had corn or flour tortillas for the fajitas. Pupusas were the star of the show, however. For those unfamiliar with these, they are hot and soft dough pockets, stuffed with whichever combination you'd like from the menu (maybe 10 varieties?). They do a stellar job of making them here. The shrimp was extremely good, perfect amount of sauce, enough to leave a coat of sauce on the shrimped and some to eat with your rice. The sauce has a kick to it. The cheese in the pupusa was so nice, warm and milky. Well balance between the amount of cheese and masa. Love the staff there, they are very friendly and nice.
