Why oh why do we not have Cava in SF yet? I went in for the first time this week expecting a Cava or Chipotle style experience but unfortunately Sababa was below par. The chicken was way too salty and the other components were what the media tends to describe as "slop". I did appreciate having beets as an option here though and haven't seen that too often at other places. Sababas pricing is generally also way too high for what it is (almost $20 for a Cava style bowl minus the bold Cava flavors)

Comforting, tasty, and fast! Everything is packed with flavor and the portions are great. I'd always recommend this over chipotle for someone who wants a hearty rice bowl. I also love their choice of salads! There are so many bowl variations, but chicken with roasted cauliflower is my favorite.

BYO bowl with Sabik (fried eggplant), roasted cauliflower, quinoa tabouli, Israeli salad with a side of pita. The pita was so soft and fluffy. I would definitely heat this up if I could. The eggplant was a little oily but the Israeli salad balanced it out. The cauliflower and the quinoa tabouli were okay.

i stopped by sababa to pickup lunch for a big group and it was a solid experience. for my chicken bowl, i selected some vegetables on the side but felt that i didn't get as much chicken as i should have. the food was very good and flavorful, and with the pita it was super delicious. but i would have preferred to get a bit more protein. id still recommend sababa and it's great to support a small business! look forward to going back to sababa again!

Big portions and tasty food! Reasonably priced for the area and with so many offices around this is a well frequented spot. Stop in for tasty med food.

Service: this restaurant seems family owned, and they were super welcoming and nice to us. They accommodated any of our requests and were very helpful. Ambiance: the inside seating is rather limited, but the interior has been decorated very simple and nice. It's located at a busy street, so the volume of noise might be rather loud. Food: wow the pita sandwich was definitely worth its money! It was filled to the "brim". The sauce complemented the inside ingredients very well, as well as the chicken that was seasoned very well. I do wish that the pita might've been a tad crispier, that would've been an amazing taste experience!

Wow, what a great find! I was tired of having salad for lunch, and my coworker suggested this place as a different, healthy option. Placing an order on their online portal for pickup around 12 noon was super easy. I ordered a Bowl with Chicken, 3 Salad Sides (Israeli Salad, Roasted Califlower, and Quinoa Tabouli) and Tahini. The serving size was generous - I actually ended up only eating half for lunch and the rest for dinner. Everything was so flavorful, delicious, and perfectly made! I didn't realize they also included hummus and I will say that the hummus was probably one of my favorite parts of the dish. I will definitely be adding this to my lunch rotation for when I'm in the city! In terms of ambiance - the restaurant itself is cute, and a great spot to have lunch!

We got the Kofta (beef) wrap. Pros - very very good. Tasty. Filling. - decent size Cons - $16 a bit pricey IMO but what isn't nowadays. Overall 8/10

Came in on a Tuesday around 5pm and there was no wait. Opted in for a build your own bowl for $14 + $1.50 for extra protein. You have a choice of a protein plus 3 salads and it comes with hummus. It's a great place for a quick bite and very filling. I love the different veggie options. It feels like I'm eating something healthy. The staff were nice and welcoming too. For protein I got falafel and an extra side of kofta. I have yet to find kofta that I like, it's usually dry but it's a less dry here at Sababa. I should have gotten extra falafel because it's good here especially with hummus and tahini.

I first tried the Sabik pita sandwich in Israel. Till then I thought the only vegetarian option for a pita bread was with a falafel. But fried eggplant and boiled egg can take the humble pita to another level. Served with skug, a aioli kind of dip. I had seen pictures of Amba sauce being served on the side at Sababa but it was missing in our takeaway. Even if you are not a vegetarian do try the Sabik Pita sandwich. I also ordered a Rice bowl with roasted cauliflower and fried eggplant( because I am obsessed with it ). This is really very filling. The quantities served is pretty decent and good value for money in todays inflationary environment. I went to the Kearny location but there's one on Stevensons street as well. If you want to look beyond hummus and falafel , do pay this place a visit for a flavor filled middle eastern experience

Quick recap: - Food: Good - Portion size: Average - Service: At the counter - Environment: Whole in a wall - $: Low - Perks: N/A Overall? Good food. Average portion. Nice people. Fast service. More details: We went there for lunch. There are a couple of options that are all roughly the same price - the bowl ($13) comes with hummus, your choice of 3 side salads and a protein, the rice bowl ($12) comes with rice and lentil, a protein and a choice of one salad, an the pita sandwitch ($12) already includes pretty much all the ingredients but you choose the protein. Everything was good and fairly quick. Would go again.

It reminds of of chipotle but for Mediterranean food and healthier. I picked the falafel bowl and added a few sides of quinoa and salad. Nice ambiance for lunch as a break from a busy work day!

My friend and I got the fattoush salad to share along with the Chicken Shish Tawook plate and Musakhan for entrees. The salad was a nice fresh start and the charred dates added a nice sweetness. Loved the juicy chicken kebobs with a side of their delicious hummus. The musakhan had to be my favorite bite though, the chicken is so tender and flavorful and goes really well with the toasted pita. I would come back just for this dish alone! I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken. I honestly felt pretty healthy overall cause I was eating hella veggies and everything tasted so fresh. The kunafa was good we got it crispy and was yummy imo but was a lil oily (I think this is normal tho). Arab food isn't really spicy but it is spiced and very herbal which I felt in the food here, I appreciate that chili sauce is provided for the spice lovers. Overall, would highly recommend. I think the sauce should have been on the side. The rest of the dish was good. 4/5 LAMB KEBAB PLATE ~ this was my dish. I touched my skewers thinking they were going to be hot, but it was surprisingly cold. I'm not sure why skewers would be cold when the food should be hot right off the grill. The lamb was cooked medium rare as I requested, though there was little to no seasoning. So it was kind of gamey and tasteless 3/5 RACK OF LAMB PLATE ~ my partner chose this dish. The lamb was also very light in seasoning. The pistachio rice was interesting and nutty. Asparagus was good. 3.5/5 MIXED GRILL PLATE ~ our friend enjoyed this dish. Maybe a mixed grill is the way to go and some meats cooked and seasoned better than others. 4/5 BEEF KEBAB PLATE ~ the beef was also room temperature and lightly seasoned. 3.5/5 SALMON ~ I tried some of this and it was decent. 4/5 BAKLAVA & CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ~ Nice birthday surprise and a sweet way to end the meal. Baklava wasn't as crispy or flaky as some I've had, but the honey-pistachio nuts were good. Chocolate mousse cake was decadent and moist. 4/5 Beautiful presentation on the plating of our food, though the timing for the food wasn't quite right as a few plates were served room temperature and not hot. When we got there, it was extremely busy inside and outside, but despite the anticipated wait, we were seated within 5 minutes or so. As a heads up, the Cole Valley location is very small. There is seating inside and outside, but it is pretty loud inside (not that it detracted from our meal). We noticed there was a lot of take out orders coming through, so it seems like this place is equally popular for takeout, which makes sense given it's small size (they do not take reservations). We started off with the mezze sampler, which has lebna, muhammara, baba ganoush, hummus, pickles, and falafel. We all loved the sampler, although we noticed it didn't come with a lot of pita bread. Since most of our entrees were also coming with pita bread, it wasn't an issue. I particularly enjoyed the lebna, which was super creamy but had a nice tang that rounded out the flavor. The hummus and baba ganoush were also very good, and the muhammara was rich and had a great flavor. My mom got the falafel platter, my dad got the grilled hanger steak, my partner got the musakhan and I got the chicken shish tawook plate. My mom really enjoyed the falafel platter. It was super loaded with falafel, baba ganoush and hummus. The falafels were really good. They were nicely fried, but still had a soft and tender interior. My dad liked the hanger steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The green zhug sauce was interesting, and the freekeh had a nice nutty and earthy flavor. Our favorites were the musakhan and the chicken shish tawook plate. The musakhan had a really interesting sweet/savory spiced flavor, and was complemented really nicely with the caramelized onions, sumac, pine nuts and toasted pita. The skin had a nice crispness but the chicken was super tender. The chicken shish tawook was definitely my favorite. The chicken had an incredible, charcoal-grilled taste and was super tender without being dry or overcooked at all. This was the best bite I've had all year, and I loved dipping the grilled chicken in the lebna, muhammara, baba ganoush and hummus that remained from our sampler plate. The service apparently called out sick. Let's start with the good news: the food was genuinely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The mint lemonade was bright and refreshing. The chicken skewers were flavorful and perfectly cooked (though surprisingly small). The halumi salad with eggplant was a generous portion. Now for the "Mooore" part. I was hoping the restaurant's name was also a mission statement. However, we could have used more attentive service. More follow-through. More toilet paper... Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were essentially released into the wild. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which is perfectly fine in theory. In practice, it felt like sending requests into the void. A drink I ordered never appeared. Nobody checked on the table, so I had to get up and walk to the counter to ask about it. Later, I had to make another trip to remind them we had ordered dessert. Then another trip when we wanted a to-go box. Apparently, the evening's theme was "interactive dining," where the guests perform most of the customer service duties themselves. Tips are forced when you first order online - no refunds on that. The bathroom offered its own adventure. The trash bin was overflowing with dirty paper towels, and there was little to no toilet paper available. As the daughter of a health inspector, knowing that staff use the same facility, I would have given this a poor hygiene grade. What made the experience frustrating was that the food was good enough to make you want to come back. But when your guests spend half the meal looking for someone to help them, it takes away from what could have been a 'more' pleasant evening.
