I was a little nervous reading some other reviews that described Mike as arrogant or brash. I was needing help with something that I should have been able to myself with a torque wrench and car ramp. My experience, however, was completely the opposite from what I feared. I called Mike asking to be fit in the next two days before a holiday weekend. He offered for me to come by first thing the second day and said he would fit me in. I expected to wait around all day, but was surprised when Mike was done within the hour. He then took the time to walk through what he had done and discuss the limitations (skid plates don't turn your car invincible). We then talked lifts and he again took the time to walk through the various options and even show me some examples on cars they had in the shop. Finally, when he discovered that I was heading out of town to where he had spent some time, he suggested several places for me to visit and gave me some cool history on the area. Overall, Mike was extremely friendly, helpful, fast, and did amazing work at 1/2 the price I was quote elsewhere. read more

S Wings drives by car into their garage to replace one of my head lights fixtures, am told it's done but that my radiator needs replacement. I go back to where front light was replaced and am shown my radiator with a line of green antifreeze along the top where tiny vents are. They could not show me leakage below. Mike says at no cost he put in supposed antifreeze. Cost to replace it: $400. I questioned cost and need for the work. All three battled with me who said I'm finally going elsewhere. I did: to O'Reilly's auto on S. Colo Blvd. No leakage, temp dial as usual.Buy anti freeze. 2 weeks later as I write this: same. All 3 were really angry I turn them down to have work done replacing radiator. Top of that, Mike wants to charge me $225 for light fixture, not $174 he quoted me 2 wks prior. I gave him $170 cash. Heard he wanting to charge a couple who was ahead of me when I went for an appt wk earlier. I heard Mike asking for $900 over what he quoted them. Same attempt at over charging. They ended paying what he quoted. My guess: they would have simply changed my radiator cap with a new one, and cleaned up top of radiator, perhaps painted top to look the the part. No leakage, my original radiator keeps temp gage consistant. Lying thieves. GET IT IN WRITING FOR QUOTE! Better yet: go elsewhere.5star read more

We will never take our Subaru anywhere else. These are the kindest people, explain whatever you need, operate honestly and take care of their customers. At no time have we ever felt uncomfortable in the least. Everything is above board, pricing is fair. Three times now, since moving to Denver in December, we've come to S-Wings. They diagnosed us the first time and helped us come up with a plan of action and timeline until we got settled in our new city, then were ready to replace our head gaskets whenever we were. Then we got a weird, concerning shake on the way to work. They squeezed us in on the same day and had us ready to go by 5:00 pm. Bottom line: These are good people, running a good operation. I recommend s-wings to anyone with a Subaru. I've had nothing but good experiences for the 5 years I've been taking my forester there. Mike has been nothing but pleasant and knowledgeable with every interaction. I should also note that they have gone above and beyond on multiple occasions to help cut down on cost and lending our loaner cars for no charge. I would ignore anyone who says otherwise. If you work with your hands and also have to deal with a constant stream of phone calls and customers all day, it gets to be a bit much. We had done business with them for several years. Mike the owner had treated us right. But this latest issue with my son car. Mike had installed a refurbished engine in my son car back in December/ January. Ever since he got the car back, he had trouble with it. He told Mike he was having problems. My son tried to resolve it without taking it back. Because it was not taken back in a timely manner in the head gasket was blown due to believe in bad head gasket. Mike had it for several several months. My son would call and get a status and was told several times he was next. My son and I believed that it should've been covered under warranty or discounted. My son now just went and picked up the keys because Mike was going to charge him full price of $3200. If Mike was going to charge him for the full price of the repair, then why did it take over 7 months for him to tell my son that. Very very bad practice. I would not recommend the shop. He is too busy to take care of his customers. Also their Facebook page states they support veterans well that's not true. My son is a veteran and he is not being treated fairly. read more

I'm torn writing this review. I originally wrote a glowing review of Mike and his work after taking my car there over a year ago. However, a few months ago I had to take my Subaru back for some transmission work. There were faults on both sides of the transaction and I struggle writing this because Mike took extra steps to help remediate the situation, but also took a few steps backwards. The issue was that my car needed to have some extensive work done on the transmission and at first I was told it would take a day or two. After the time period elapsed, I called for an update and always got a rather gruff response. To compound issues, on my end I was traveling in and out of town and was not always able to be reached as easily. Through the missed connections, Mike tried to contact me, but had written my number down incorrectly. The original problem had evolved into another car issue and a part needed to be ordered. I found this out after calling back and learning that it would take another few days to get my car back. To Mike's credit, he went above and beyond to remedy the situation. He offered me a loaner car so that I could get to and from work and when it was time to pay, he charged some of the parts at cost. I was very appreciative of him for all of this, but the reason for the 3 stars was because of our final interaction. Similar to other reviews written, you are not going here for the TLC approach. Mike often can get short and is quick to anger. I agree with him that he did a lot to help my wife and me and that cars have a way of just being expensive, but customer interaction is just as important as mechanic know-how. The biggest issue I had was when he tried to pin my wife's words as aggressive and shape the conversation of her versus me. In addition, I thanked him repeatedly for his help going above and beyond, but stressed that being obtuse at the negates any good will. All in all, if you need someone who knows their way around your car and has competitive prices, Mike is your man. However, just be wary that interactions can often be curt or rude. read more

I moved to Denver from upstate NY leaving my mechanic friend, absolutely sure I would not find anyone of his caliber (and price) here. After my car broke down a few months later, I had to go on a hunt to find this person, and that person is Mike Hynes at S-Wings. Mike worked with me to repair and sell my broken car, let me purchase a loaner car in the meantime, gave me a new loaner when that car was stolen, and repaired the recovered vehicle, all the while searching for, purchasing, fixing up and selling me my dream car. I now am the proud owner of a 2006 Subaru Forester with just 60K miles which I got for a very reasonable price. It runs great, and I know Mike will be there if any issues come up in the future. Mike and his team went beyond what any mechanic, dealership or average person would do. As you can tell, I had a complicated car situation that ended up lasting a few months. Mike did everything he could to make it easier without expecting anything above average in return. I hope the shop enjoyed the cookies I baked for them after all my car stuff was sorted out. I purchased a 2009 Subaru Tribeca from Mike at S-Wings over a year ago. Unfortunately, a woman ran a stop sign and hit me and totaled the car. I was heartbroken. I brought my car in because my right front brake was squeaking and there was a rattle on that side of the car. I came back a couple of hours later to see how much I owed. I'm sure Mike is used to the look on my face when he told me I didn't owe anything. I was shocked! Turns out it was just a bolt that had come out. He could have charged me for a brake job, but he wouldn't even let me pay for the bolt. I apologized for wasting his time, and he said, "It wasn't a waste of time. I went into S-Wings Stuff nervious from an estimate of $900 from another garage for a hub and bearing replacement. A friend said I needed to see "her guy" at S-Wings ans so I thought I'd give it a try. When I got in, Mike showed me exactly what I needed to fix (only a bearing, no hub!) and then, when I expressed I wanted to do the repair, he gave me tips on how to do it! He spent well over an hour speaking with me and didn't charge me a penny for the consultation. NEVER AGAIN Top 3 reasons: 1. S-Wings has forgotten who the customer is. Mike (the owner) called me, complaining he wasn't told the body work my car needed was an insurance claim. I apologized twice and asked, "What info do you need to rectify the situation. What else can I do?" He was gruff. I wondered, who is serving who? 2. Mike has elevated rudeness to an art form. His employees are in close pursuit. One morning, my phone rings. I answer, "This is Shannon." I hear, "Your car's done." No, "Good morning..." or anything remotely pleasant. No thanking me for my business. 3. Car Returned Filthy I don't expect shops to clean up my mess, but I certainly expect them to clean theirs. My car was filthy when I picked it up: layer of paint, dust, dirt EVERYwhere. Impossible to sit on seats without getting your clothes dirty. Paint or bonding stains on front two seats. Hopefully will come out. Hand marks everywhere. To be fair, S-Wings say they will reimburse me the detail work the car needs, but why am I spending my time getting it detailed and driving the invoice over to S-Wings for reimbursement? Why didn't they clean their mess ? With so many other options, why would you allow yourself and your car to be treated poorly ? read more

After the Subaru dealer told me I needed $1,000+ worth of repairs, I called Mike and he solved the issue for less than $300. Mike will never do anything that isn't absolutely necessary and will use salvaged parts when possible. If you are looking for a local shop that will treat you right, this is the place for you. I was traveling through Denver and got myself in an accident. Mike, the owner, just happened to be eating breakfast at a restaurant on the corner of the intersection where the accident occurred. On a Saturday, at 5:30 a.m., he offered to look at my car and see if he could get it up to driving condition for the 917 mile drive back to Austin, TX. Mike opened up his shop an hour and a half early to patch up the car. By 7:30, the car was ready to go. Mike was truly a kind person helping out another person who was a stranger to his city and in a bit of a pickle. I tried to give him a check for his time, and he refused to accept it. He told me he was not interested in the money; he just wanted to make sure he could take care of us as best as he good. The car drove back flawlessly all the way back to Austin. This review is mostly about the character of the owner of S-Wings Stuff Automotive. The work Mike did on the car was wonderful and performed exactly to the level Mike said it would; however, the part of my experience that stands out the most is how honest and helpful Mike was in this experience. Very rude guy, car took 3 days longer than promised, made it clear I'd only bring it in if they had time and were able to do it in a certain time frame, also was promised quote, never got a quote. Bad experience all around. I don't want to chase someone around and get treated like a big inconvenience if I try to see when the car will be done 24 hours after it was supposed to be done. Costed me 240 bucks in rental car fees. Come to find out my friend also had similar experience with rude service/non-communication a few weeks before that. Best, most honest mechanics I have ever experienced! I brought my car in for a second opinion after visiting another local (well- reviewed) place that doesn't focus on Subarus after I had been told my late '90's Forester with 200,000 miles needed over $1100 worth of work (new rack and piñon). I came into S-wings and not only did the owner tell me that he would have done that job for HALF that price and said He would look at it. After checking out the car he took the time to do a full walk- through under my car on a lift with me and show me exactly why the other mechanic mis-diagnosed my car and proceeded to tell me that my car required no major repairs. My fist visit saved me $1100 and it didn't cost me a dime. It's been running fine since. As a late twenty something female I have felt like I have been up-charged and recommended unnecessary repairs in the past, Mike and his team continue to improve my knowledge about my car, talk reasonably about my budget and repair my car for the best price in town! read more

Did I sign up for Yelp after a million internet years for the purpose of writing this review? Absolutely. That's how strongly I feel that S-Wings is the best Subaru mechanic in the area. My Outback had a persistent air intake error code after its 60k tuneup that came back no matter what I did at the dealership. Unsatisfied with my experience there (and really, who isn't?), I got a recommendation from a friend to try S-Wings. From the first conversation I had with owner and proprietor Mike Hynes, I knew this would be a different auto mechanic experience. Mike is not interested in selling repairs, but in solving problems, and that makes a word of difference for me as a customer and my car. Over the next four months, Mike walked me through the possible problems with the error, educating me about my system at the same time he was investigating it. He didn't immediately jump to big ticket repairs like a catalytic converter replacement, but instead worked through the other possible causes of the error in a systematic fashion that eventually resulted in a fixed car at far less than I expected to pay given quoted repairs at other places. My Outback is the most important piece of property I currently own, and I am glad that Mike and his staff care as much about making it run smoothly as I do.
