I really can't believe I've lived here in Bristol for 10 years, and this past Friday was my first time here! I made reservations on their website a couple of days before hand (FYI if you are requesting outside seating you need to call in the reservation). But they were still able to accommodate us. It was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the scenery of the harbor. For the appetizer we ordered the calamari and it was very tasty. For my entree I ordered the dijon scrod. Man oh man was it delicious! Our waitress, who was excellent by the way, mentioned that if you're not a big fan of mustard than you probably will not like it and I have to agree. It's a homemade dijon mustard sauce that gives the scrod just an excellent balance of flavor. The scrod itself was excellent. I tried one of their drinks on their specials menu, the castaway and it was very refreshing. All in all I had a very good experience here and I do plan on returning as this is definitely a gem in the heart of Bristol. read more

Worst Customer Service ever experienced. My daughter had a noon tennis match at Roger Williams University, and it was also my wife's birthday. So, we made an early celebratory dinner reservation for 4:00. During the match we were roasting in the Sun. We arrived for dinner right on time. There was only one party of 4 eating outside under an overhang in the shade - There was about 3 empty tables also under the overhang. The Hostess brought us to a table on the other side underneath a canopy (estimate about 12 tables - all empty). Sun was shining on the table she brought us to. I asked her if we could move to the other side in shade since we were a little overheated. She said NO and that they were completely booked. I looked around saw nobody there and said what about indoors - She said No - they are completely booked. I said there is Nobody here it's 4 o'clock, She then said curtly this is the only table you can have. I looked around at the empty restaurant in which we had reservations in disbelief. She could have said I'm so sorry, you have an outdoor reservation and the tables under the overhang have been specifically reserved at 4:30 or 5, would any of these other tables under the empty canopy be better for you, or maybe you would like to sit inside at the bar. I could have understood that, or she could have pacified me by saying let me go inside and see if there is anything I could do for you. instead, she was curt and rude, take this table and only this table in this empty restaurant. I was amazed looking around at all the empty space, well I'm going to count people as 100 people come in within the next hour I said. She then replied with even more attitude if you don't like the table you can leave. Now I'm ticked, so as my family left in a huff, the hostess and I began jawing at each other with me telling her that her attitude and Customer Service was horrible, and her telling me they don't need me being a customer. (My $200.00 and a great tip not needed). My family and I were shocked, Am I wrong? Anyway, later that evening while dining at the DeWolf Tavern, a restaurant I highly recommend, service spectacular, my family and I were still disturbed, so I called to speak with the manager about what happened. I told him how horrible the customer experience was and that my daughter is already talking about this episode to her entire team and friends (Chat groups) at RWU. He then said. "We were fully booked and as for you, your daughter and Roger Williams University, I really Don't CARE!" Then he hung up. Shocked Again! So, maybe their food is good. I don't know, but if you go there and have any issues, remember their management approach: They Really Don't Care! I wonder, if you don't care about customer service, do you care about cleanliness, food quality, etc - who knows. All I know is that they will never have my trust or business. read more

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. We came here for a much overdue date night on a Saturday. Booked reservations on open table a couple weeks out. When we arrived we were immediately seated. Dining that evening were families, couples and a gourd celebrating a special occasion. Although it's family friendly I wouldn't say it's a great place for kids due to the price. My husband had the best old fashioned he's ever had in his life and I enjoyed a cocktail that was not overly sweet. We had the clams casino and oysters for our appetizers, both were very good! I had the chitarra (garlic butter) and he had the special of the day (can't remember but it was fish) and we ate every last bite. For dessert we had the cheesecake bit everything looked good. This place is a culinary delight and a hidden gem in Bristol. Locals love it and for good reason. The service was good and we were take. Care of throughout our entire dining experience. Upon walking in on a very chilly night, the restaurant looked inviting because of the fireplace. However, it was still fairly cold in the restaurant that I did not want to take off my coat. The bar area was packed so it had a lively environment. In addition to the regular menu, they had a 3-course prix fixe menu for $35 dollars and nightly specials. Nothing spoke to me, so everything we got was on the regular menu. My partner and I started with the Maine Mussels and fries. They were okay- I thought the fries were a bit soggy and the sauce too salty for my taste. However, the clam chowder is the best I've had in New England. It was perfect in every way- temperature, thickness, flavor. After, we had the Roasted RI Mushroom Naan. It's seems basically like a flatbread pizza and was delicious. For the main course, I had the Roasted Beet Grain Bowl. It had greens topped with some quinoa, feta, walnuts, edamame, and beets. For $18, I added salmon. However, I'm not sure I'd consider this a "grain" bowl. There wasn't much quinoa- most of it was greens. It seemed more like a salad. My partner got the veggie bibimbap with an egg. With all the amazing culinary experiences available in RI and this area in particulate, SS Dion is a must skip. I share my experience not to complain, but to help others to choose one of the other amazing culinary Options in the area. When I thanked the hostess multiple times for seating us, the menu she handed me, and the specials page she gave me; she ignored each thank you I extended. The staff was slow to respond, we needed one more moment to look at the menu, but they did not return for about 15 minutes. As the sun began to set they raised the blinds. The sun was blinding me so the very nice individual who was filling water around the resturant lowered the shade. Another staff member immediately came back and raised it again. So I moved my seat. The lady filling water was the only kind and competent individual we encountered. The resturant did not offer ranch/house dressing even though it is on the menu. When I ordered my wine selection I was told they don't have Zinfandel (once I pointed out that it was on the menus they did have it). Short rib was tough and overcooked. I am a firm believer that people should not simply put negative out into the world, so I have the following to say. The lady filling the water was sweet, kind, and attentive. When I post a negative review, I always take some time to fill out positive reviews for other great experiences I've had in the area. I ordered the fried clams....these were some of best that I have ever had. The homemade pasta looked delicious too. I didn't order dessert, but everyone else did and said they were great. I am a local resident and have been coming here for over 30 years. Tonight's visit which included my aunt and uncle who haven't been here since their marriage over 50 yrs ago proved to be embarrassing at the least. Julie our "server" made it more than obvious our being here was a nuisance at a minimum. Aside from being chastised for ordering lobster sautée which WAS on the menu online but not on the current menu, constant eye rolling , aggressive tone and "tossing" the oyster crackers AT (angrily -and I truly wish I was being sensitive and this wasn't actually happening) my uncle...the cherry on top of a miriad of other rude faces and comments was when I ordered my espresso martini and requested a splash of Baileys to which the rude, demeaning and a stern response was "WE DONT PUT BAILEYS IN OUR ESPRESSO MARTINIS!!!! Called for reservations told we could come at 6:30 for bar seats. When we got there there were 2 bar seats but they were for a regular customer. Their policy is holding the seats for 15 min. After 15 min we were informed that their customers were running 15 min late due to traffic. Since they violated their own policy we left and went 2 doors down to Portside with no problem. read more

I went to SS Dion with a few of my girlfriends and we all really enjoyed it. The location of this restaurant is perfect, it is downtown with views of the Bristol Harbor. The food was delicious. Went for the week day special and it did not disappoint. For the price of 43 and some change we got a bottle of wine 2 soups clam chowder and tomato basil (both delicious) entrees with sides of pasta. I ordered the scod special, never having scod I was nervous but it came with crab meat on top (that's the special part) it was perfect! My friend ordered the eggplant parm and it was fresh and the eggplant was sliced perfect. Service was also great the kept the table cleaned of trash and never bothered us. He let us take our time and enjoy the sunset. Seeing the sunset with cover overhead? You've just found it!! Now go experience it! It's also is facing poppasquash... The best homes or estates in Bristol. Some are 1 mil plus... Compare it to Blithewolds view, only closer to the bike path. The beginning is right in front! Off street parking right there with a parking lot too. We've been meaning to try the Dinner for Two (Two entrees and a bottle of wine for $46) for quite a while. We've made a few failed attempts in the summer as they were just packed. We figured we would have better luck on a cold night in February and we did. Yes, the interior is slightly outdated but on a cold winter's night with the fireplace going, it had a very cozy feel to it. I probably wouldn't feel the same on a summer night, but they have an outdoor patio that overlooks Bristol harbor that would be a nice place to have a meal. Service was very good during our visit. We opted for a bottle of Frontera Malbec and enjoyed it. We almost opted for a second bottle, but figured getting home in one piece was a bigger priority. We started with the skewers of shrimp. They came in a garlic butter sauce and were quite good. The special comes with a choice of soup of salad and I had the salad while my husband had the Manhattan clam chowder. We were both happy with our choices. Bread and butter were delivered to our table and we were given the option of olive oil as well, which we accepted. The bread was cold, but very fresh. For entrees my husband had one of the specials, crab encrusted scrod and chose a baked potato and squash with cranberries and onion as his sides. He was pleased with his meal. I had the baked scallops and received generous portion of eight scallops. I chose the sauteed cabbage and roasted potatoes as my sides. I really enjoyed the cabbage and the potatoes, but a few of the potatoes were overcooked. We were too full for dessert. If you are getting this deal, there really is no need for the appetizer, especially if you know you want to indulge in dessert at the end. All in all we enjoyed it and would go back. read more

When I go out to eat, there are 3 things I look for....the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere. A lot of times you are lucky to get 2 out of those 3 markers, but last night, SS Dion hit all 3 of them. Upon arriving, we were greeted by Mandy, and when shown to our table, it wasn't the usual, "here ya go, your server will be with you shortly" type of seating. I mentioned to Mandy that I remember when her folks opened the restaurant and that I had a business at the time, right up the street. She questioned me about the business and told me a cute antidote about being sent there. She was genuinely warm and sincere. Our server, Meghan, was outstanding. She made suggestions when we ordered as to what sides would go well with our meal, and was not pushy. She mentioned how she was surprised how busy it was, but you would never know it based on her attentiveness. Throughout the meal, Meghan would check on us, but not in an intrusive way, just to make sure everything was alright. Now the food. My dinner companion ordered the charbroiled Filet Mignon with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. The steak was cooked to perfection after telling Meghan how she likes the meat, and was "The best steak I have ever had" per my companion. The fries were done to perfection...not to crisp, but not soft. The "SS Style" topping of mushrooms, garlic, scallions, in a marsala served on the side, was perfect..delightful and not overpowering. Even the dressing on the salad received compliments. I had one of the "Specials"...a fried clam plate. The clams were whole belly and so sweet and tender! The batter was light and not greasy. The french fries were that rare combination of crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. Another "plus" in my book was that the fries were not over seasoned...they had just the right amount of seasoning so that you could taste the potatoes. The cole slaw was not the usual cabbage, carrots, watery dressing, but rather a nice mixture that was crispy and tasty. There was a great dessert menu, but neither of us had room for any more food after the more than ample portions of food we received. If you are looking for a great restaurant that knows how to keep it's customers happy, I highly recommend going to SS Dion. read more

This place is always a way to treat myself, every few weeks I go out of my way just to really enjoy a special evening. Last night a friend and I decided to just hang out for a small dinner at the bar, the staff as always was even more than friendly. They talk to you on a personal and respectful level and it's really refreshing from the fake "happy" personality you receive at so many chain restaurants. We started with drinks (Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates IPA Edition for me) and a shared order of steamed littlenecks in their signature red sauce. They were perfectly tender and the sauce was so good we soaked all of it up in the provided bread. I know he enjoyed his New England clam chowder and I myself thought the salad was exceedingly fresh (as always). As a personal rule, I only ever consider blue cheese dressing for buffalo wing dip but at this restaurant they make it from scratch and I have it every time on my salad. Perfection. I had the Gorgonzola chicken and my friend had the cowboy steak. Everything was cooked perfectly. My chicken was tender and the Gorgonzola sauce was savory, wonderfully paired with mushrooms and spinach. My friend wanted a rare steak and it came out so perfect he never stopped chewing to say a word! The mashed potatoes I received as a side were very flavorful as well with scallions and garlic. I was far from able to fit dessert but everything I did have was amazing. The decor has been recently updated with some chairs and the place settings which is always wonderful to see. They really care about their quality and their food which makes a statement of its own. I will be a customer for YEARS to come. read more

My family and I were looking for a great seafood restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday. With a toddler, it is not easy to find a great seafood restaurant that also is accommodating to families, and not in Newport. The food was excellent! I had the seafood scampi, which was a great portion and plenty of scallops, shrimp and crab. My family had baked scrod, seafood fra diovolo, grilled salmon, and fish and chips for the little one. The only downfall is that we weren't able to use our free drink coupon because they said they needed to see it before the check came out or sown thing so when you go here make sure you show them the coupon before you get our check! SS. Dion used to be rather popular with my family. I had one of those meltdown evenings there and vowed to never set foot in the place again. We had reservations, and we were seated at a table next to a large party of screaming kids. I told Steve Dion to move us. All the other tables were empty, but reserved. The bar was empty and that's where he sat us. A waitress came by and gave us our menus and never came back. There wasn't anyone there yet. We should have had her full attention. They seated people around us and she went to them, but she never came to our table. I motioned her over and finally she took our drink order. She never came back. They were seating people outside now and our waitress was going outside now too. We are at an hour now, and the waitress is outside. I complained to Steve, who was sitting two tables from me about the service. He disappeared into the other room. Maybe she'll come now! They seated two men behind us, and one of them was coughing so loud, he made us all jump out of our seats. Every minute or two. I asked the guy if he shouldn't be home in bed? He ignored me. I'm asking my family to leave. At the two hour mark, I walked out and sat by the water. Another two hours, while the rest of my family ate. I watched the boats go by. Four hours, and we were one of the first tables seated! I'm sitting on a little bench by the water, in the dark! My family finally comes walking up to me with a little box. Our waitress apologized, blamed her inattention on the place being busy and sent me a slice of cake. "Oh, that makes it all better." I'd love to go back in and tell her what she could do with that cake, but I decided never to set foot in there again. I'm over the place. I liked the food for the most part, but ruin my evening and I'm done with you. The owner was right there on the floor, and he didn't do anything. We used to get calamari over pasta, chicken a la Michael, grilled swordfish and salmon, baked scallops, and baked seafood casseroles. All good. We had hiccups with service being slow, and we've sent back food before but two hours is the longest I've ever waited to place an order. I should have dragged my family out of there after twenty minutes. I'd have been a whole lot less miffed. They are in a good spot by Independence park, and the food is usually good but I won't go back. read more

I have been coming to S S Dion for years now, and go about a couple of times a month with my boyfriend. We are positively addicted. We came for the very affordable dinner for two menu that I can't recommend enough! After that we were hooked. It runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Choose two of their delicious entrees, which are served with a soup or salad, and your choice of veg, plus a bottle of wine for 40.00 It's the best deal in Bristol. My standby is the scrod dijon or the baked scrod. We usually get the chowder to start, but their tomato soup is also good! And if they happen to have cabbage that night, grab it as your veg of choice because it is so buttery, tender, and divine!! If I could made cabbage taste this good, I would make it all the time! Even if you don't think you like cabbage you have to try it. Also terrific is their eggplant parmigiana. The owner batters and fries all of her eggplant fillets BY HAND. Their eggplant parm is the best I have ever had, and it is consistently good. Another thing we LOVE is that they start you off with complimentary crackers and an herby cheese spread, along with a little basket of bread. Speaking of consistency, the service is unfailingly good. The food is delicious, the view of Bristol Harbor is wonderful, the patio in the summer months is very inviting and in the winter both the bar and main dining room have a crackling fire to warm you up. My only suggestion would be maybe rethinking the dessert menu. It's our fave restaurant in Bristol! read more
