One thing about me is that I love, love, love a cute cafe. I've been wanting to visit Sohn for a few months now, but I finally got to try on my recent trip to SF! Ok, first: the vibes. It might be a little controversial, but to me, the ambiance of a cafe is most important! And at Sohn, the atmosphere is immaculate. It's very obviously a Korean-style cafe. The interior is washed in a palette of soft neutrals and pale wood. Lots of open spaces, airy lantern light fixtures, fabric tapestries, etc., etc., etc. So beautiful, and so perfect for photos! (My friend and I took lots, believe me.) The only "complaint" I have is that it isn't open seating; an employee will seat you when you arrive, so you can't really choose where you want to settle. Kinda bummed because I wanted to see upstairs. Even though I prioritize cafe aesthetics over food, I'm pleased to report that the food and drinks at Sohn are just as delicious as they look. Style AND substance! There's a QR code at each table, which you scan to order. The workers bring the items to your table directly, which is pretty nice. Here is a rundown of everything we ordered: - Banana oat milk hojicha latte: Wait, why was this so good? It actually might be one of the best drinks I've ever tried. You can tell they use real bananas; there are literally chunks of banana at the bottom. No artificial syrups here. The banana is sweet and creamy, not bitter at all. Plus, it's oat milk! Yay for my fellow lactose-intolerant friends. The hojicha was okay, though. I think that, if it were nuttier, the roasted flavor would've complemented the banana so well, bringing this drink to a whole new level. - Coffee hojicha: Pretty bitter if you don't add syrup, but once it's properly sweetened, it's pretty good. Since their hojicha isn't very flavorful, it's easily overpowered by the coffee, so I wouldn't recommend this one. (Though it's not bad.) - Popcorn chicken: This was so delicious and beautifully presented in a round stone bowl. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the fried rice cakes were a unique inclusion! They are rolled in a seaweed seasoning, which reminds me of furikake. Glad they have savory items, too. - Gochujang cookie: Meh, honestly, you can skip this. It's not a bad cookie per se, but it tastes like a regular ol' sugar cookie. I don't taste the gochujang at all. It's not even a pretty cookie, haha, so I wouldn't even order it for aesthetics either. But overall, I had a great experience at Sohn! I saw a lot of people working on their computers here, but it's also a solid spot for photos or hanging out with friends. Parking wasn't too bad when I went (a weekday afternoon), but I heard the line can get long. I would totally recommend this place, and I hope I can return soon to try more items. read more

Been wanting to check out this place. Got there before 10am and thankfully there was no line yet. The minute we got in, we were greeted and asked either to-go or dine-in. Matcha latte was nice and subtle, wish it was hotter in temperature but that's just my preference. Signature latte was perfect. Plain croissant was sweet and flaky, maybe better when warmed up. got here around 12pm on friday, street parking was a bit of a struggle but we had someone in the party get in line while we looked for a spot. a party of 12 was in front of us which may have aftected the wait. got seated after 15ish mins, upstairs in a secluded couch area! you order on a QR code and the ordered food/drinks are brought to you, but water and everything else is self serve. staff were nice when checking on party sizes in line & walking us up to our seats. ambiance was beautiful! it's two-story with most tables and large group tables upstairs. most people here were doing work on their laptops, even taking meetings. lots of paper lanterns, dark wood, and neutral colors. the chairs are very comfy though, so i could see why people hunker down and do work here. sōhn breakfast sandwich (6/10): bread is so fluffy and soft! love the cheese and sweet jam. could have more bacon. all the textures were just kinda soft and mushy, would like if smth crunchy (a leafy green or if bacon were crispier) was there to break it up. galbi patty melt (6.5/10): rlly like the kbbq beef patty; had good flavor and juicy. i also like the slaw and esp the caramelized onions. somehow the croissant on this was much denser and drier. signature cream top matcha (6/10): reminds me of breadbelly's matcha but creamier. matcha is veeery strong and the cream top was fine. not my favorite but not the worst matcha in sf. popcorn chicken (7/10): crunchy coating, great seasoning, not too salty. the fried rice cakes is chewy w a perfect bit of crunch. i was really hyping this place up, but i don't think it was worth the hype. as a working and social space, it looks and feels great but the food and drinks were just fine. i would be interested in trying their kimchi fried rice and socialize with friends, but wouldn't come with high hopes for their other food/bevs. read more

I have come to Sohn a few times both from dining in and takeout. Overall, it is a solid place! The popcorn chicken and mochi bites is good, wish that it came with a sauce on the side otherwise would be perfect! They did have sriracha that you can grab but I think another sauce would complement it better. The gochujang snickerdoodle is my current favorite cookie. It has the crispy edges but soft in the middle. Perfect density and not too sweet! The drinks have been hit or miss with me. I've gotten the banana latte twice. The first time there wasn't enough banana but the second time was too much banana. Coffee itself is tasty! It is on the pricier side but it's sf lol all of the bakeries / cafes are about the same price. The employees are all very nice and the space is beautiful. Went here on a Sunday around 1pm with two other friends. The service was fast since we didn't dine in and it has a really open style interior. I ordered the sohn signature cream top,popcorn chicken,butter croissant, and their breakfast sandwich. Popcorn chicken: it was alright the flavor wasn't memorable but the rice cakes it came with were an interesting addition. Croissant: like any other croissant Breakfast sandwich: I think it was a good balance of ingredients and I enjoyed the texture of the eggs. Finally, a cute Korean cafe in SF!! Love the modern decor and neutral color palette. Stopped by on a Sunday at 10:45am and was super excited that there was no line. I've passed by several times before, and each time there was a line. However, by the time I left around 11:45am, there were around a dozen people waiting to dine in. There's some seating downstairs and even more seating upstairs. A lot of people had their laptops out. It's a great place to get work done as there are ample outlets and free WiFi. Once seated, you scan the QR code to order & pay for your food. Super easy! I also love how Apple Pay is accepted. I ordered the kimchi fried rice ($14) and loved it. It was perfectly seasoned (yet not too salty) and topped with a well-cooked egg with a runny yolk. This honestly might be my new favorite kimchi fried rice in SF. I was pleasantly surprised. What a neighborhood gem!! It's such a great place for whether you're in need of a study/work session or meeting up with friends to catch up. The inside is huge, with a huge seating area. Also love that the tables upstairs are all positioned along walls, so there are outlets at practically every table if you need to grind. Came in on a weekday around noon, and it was fairly crowded but we were seated immediately. There's QR codes on the tables, and the servers bring up your food and drinks. We ordered a matcha signature cream top and a hojicha latte, as well as the popcorn chicken and the spicy cold buckwheat noodle salad. Everything was absolutely amazing!! Wait Time: Depending on if you choose dine in or take out the time may vary, but relatively quick service for dine-in. Service: Menu is available via QR code at the bar and on the tables in the restaurant with servers bringing food and drinks as the order is placed. They do require you to pay before the order is complete so there is not much interaction outside of when they bring food out. Food: The Matcha Cream Top was good with a nice earthy flavor from the matcha and complimented by the cream placed on top of the drink. The size is a fair price compared to other matcha around the city and not overly filled with ice as well. The Galbi Patty Melt was good with less of a marinated flavor that you might expect from the Galbi, though it was not dry as there was both a kimchi slaw and dress placed on top. The bun of the Melt was extremely light and crispy with loads of sesame seeds which provided a complimentary texture. The gochujang caramel cookie was crisp around the edges and softer along the middle of the cookie. Not overly powerful from the gochujang itself and tasted almost like a snickerdoodle and sugar cookie mixed together. A very fair priced for the size of the cookie as well. After visits to Hamburguesa Bar and Shoji, we capped our afternoon at Sohn and I am very glad we did. First off, the space is gorgeous. We got our order to go because I had a kid to pick up on the other side of the Bay but this is definitely a place you want to settle into! The ceilings are soaring and the vibes are good. Sohn is a spacious, aesthetically pleasing cafe to get some work done or catch up with friends. They offer free WiFi and table service. We had to wait in line on a Friday afternoon to get seated. We arrived on a Sunday mid-morning, waited over an hour to be seated & 15 minutes after we sat down, ordered, and received most of our food, a server told us to move because there was no other table that will be able to sit a new party of five (we're a party of four). We spoke to a manager and they were able to help us move to a better table than the one were originally shunted to. They're very busy but I appreciate that we get proper service if we ask. Great food & drinks. Seoul Sausage Pastry is a filling, savory treat! Breakfast Sandwich has steamed egg which is super melt-in-your-mouth good. I tried this on a Thursday afternoon. The location has really bad parking. I circled for probably almost 20 minutes. I ordered the matcha latte with the foam top. I fear that I am in love with Sohn. I've seen Sohn all over social media, and being in the area, my best friend and I made the trek, and now we are forever changed. We came on a weekend, and since we had my pup, we opted to go. Being a popular spot for our gen (mostly Gen Z), it can get busy! There are two lines, one for dine-in and one for take-out. The take-out line moved relatively quickly. You go inside to order on the tablet and wait to be called by name. The second time we went, we chose to dine in. The line moved quickly because they have multiple seating levels. You order through the QR code and pay, and your items are delivered. So the vibes for Sohn are everything. It reminds me of the cafes in Korea I'd go to, popular, minimal yet cute, and aesthetic. I love the open-space concept. So the first time my best friend and I came, we shared the Popcorn Chicken. I don't even care for it, but I ate a lot of it as a teen with my friends. But omg theirs is sooo elevated! Crunchy, savory, a light fry with the rice cakes, it's addicting. We also received a complimentary Eric's Gochujang Caramel Cookie, which was out of this world. It reminded me somewhat of a spiced and sweet snickerdoodle. The inside is so cute & very open! I love how they decorated the place. Very light and cozy. Definitely a great place to work or just have coffee or food w/ friends. All the workers were very nice and friendly. You order your beverage and food through the QR code they have at your table. WiFi is also available! I ordered the Banana Oat Milk Latte w/ Hojicha (10/10) and Eric Kim's Gochujang Caramel Cookie (8/10). My friend who doesn't like hojicha, actually really liked my drink. The hojicha with the banana was such a great combo and balanced each other very well. I want to try the matcha next time. The cookie was good, but a bit too sweet for me & it was bigger than I expected. I'm glad we shared it. I recommend trying it though! My friends ordered the Banana Oat Milk Latte w/ Espresso and they thought the espresso was too strong for them, but I enjoyed it! It really depends on how much you like coffee. But another recommended drink. Studying or working here would be perfect if you don't mind the noise. It's not overwhelmingly loud, but it's definitely not quiet. I just love the vibes. Visited on a Saturday around 2:30pm with a friend, line was about 8 guest long and wait was about 20 minutes before we were seated. Definitely plan for a wait but later in the afternoon the line definitely moves faster (tried to visit around 9-11am in the past and the lines were 20-30 guest long). Drink: Matcha - excellent, refreshing, green herbal, with a slight bitterness Food: Popcorn chicken - good, chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful, wish the crust was a bit crispier but a great starter, the fried rice cake were maybe even better than the chicken, nice bouncy chewy texture, crispy exterior, loved the seasoning which seemed like nori, matcha salt Cold noodle salad - good, noodles had a nice tender chew, great spicy gochujang sauce, wish there was a bit more veggies but the greens and asian pear were a nice addition Kimchi fried rice - okay, rice kernals were plump and tender, kimchi flavor was a bit mild, the fried egg was good nice and running yolk Service was fine order via a QR code on the table, staff brings food to the table. Silverware was at the table, the water, togo container and cups were self serve. Overall enjoyed Sohn, a great spot for a light lunch and a matcha or coffee. Stopped by on a Friday morning to get some work done. It was pretty quiet early on but started filling up around lunchtime. If you go solo, they seat you at the bar to save table space. Totally understandable but just a heads up, the bar doesn't have outlets, so it's not ideal if you need to charge your laptop. Luckily, another solo guest and I ended up sharing a two-seater table near the outlets, which worked out perfectly for both of us (unexpected co-working win!!). Ordering is done through a QR code on your phone. It didn't work for me, but the staff were super friendly and happy to take my order at the bar instead. Customer service was genuinely great, everyone was welcoming and helpful. The coffee was excellent, rich with a delicious cream top. I also tried the caramel gochujang cookie. It was okay, but nothing memorable, I'd probably skip it next time. I ended up staying for lunch and ordered the spicy noodles... SO good. Flavorful, healthy, filling, and absolutely delicious. Definitely the highlight of the food for me. The space itself is roomy with plenty of seating, and there's even a cute little shop section to browse. Sohn is a brand new, super hyped Korean‑inspired café in Dogpatch that I'd been really excited to try, especially as a Korean-American myself. I waited for the initial rush to die down and went on a weekday, which worked out well since there was no line and I was seated at the bar right away, though a line did slowly build over the course of my visit. I found everything I ordered to be pretty good overall. The banana oat milk latte with espresso had a really prominent banana flavor and richness, exactly what I was hoping for from a drink clearly inspired by classic Korean banana milk. The popcorn chicken was fried expertly in rice flour, reminding me of mochiko chicken in Hawaii, and the addition of rice cakes gave the whole dish a really pleasant chewiness that made it extra fun to eat. Where things fell flat for me was the galbi patty melt. On paper and by description, I was expecting that specific galbi flavor you only get from Korean BBQ, but I didn't get that at all. As a standalone patty melt, it was pretty good: the patty was well seasoned and the sesame seed-studded croissant bun was buttery and flaky, but I got basically zero distinctly Korean flavors from it. The "kimchi" slaw tasted more like regular slaw to me, without the spiciness, funkiness, or umami that I expect from actual kimchi. Overall, I think Sohn is a good addition to the neighborhood and a cool, beautiful gathering space, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for it given the location, especially with tough parking even if Muni access is decent. For me, there's a noticeable lack of the punchiness I typically associate with Korean flavors, and that keeps it from becoming a must‑visit despite the hype. read more

5/10 or 1/5 on a to-go cup for here. You should be encouraged to drink for here cups. A drink in which you finish sitting there in a to go cup is awful. There was also a mixup in where I was to sit. They force you where to go when you walk in. It's silly, as an adult you should choose. It took 20 mins for my fried food to arrive to me on a less than busy. Drinks are good and food is good. It's just their forced seating and cups to go for here that is the biggest issue. read more

Take away order for one drink. Came at 9am on a weekday and there was no line. Only about 4 people inside at the time. Entry is split in half with one side dedicated to dine in and the other for to-go. For to-go, you can now self order from a kiosk on the counter. - yuja perilla espresso tonic ($7) - only served chilled. Really refreshing drink. Yuja was more forward flavor with perilla in the background, which I enjoy since perilla can have a stronger, spicier flavor. Be sure to give it a stir before drinking. read more

I've been wanting to try Sohn for a while now -- I kept hearing about the food, the vibe, the drinks, and how it's laptop-friendly. Finally stopped by today and I'm glad I did. This place almost always has a line, but I lucked out and waited less than 10 minutes. I sat at the bar and ordered the Iced Espresso Signature Cream Top and the Galbi Patty Melt -- both were so good. The espresso was smooth and balanced (not overly sweet), and that Galbi Patty Melt? Flavorful, comforting, and just really well made. The staff were genuinely nice and welcoming, and the interior is beautiful -- modern but still warm. You can tell a lot of thought went into the space. Parking was definitely a challenge, but honestly, it's worth the effort. The only thing for me personally -- I was hoping for a cozy, peaceful laptop spot, and it's pretty busy and moderately noisy. Not a bad thing at all, it just makes it a little hard to focus. Next time I'll just bring my earbuds and adjust. Overall, really solid experience. I'd absolutely come back -- maybe next time just for food and coffee instead of productivity. read more

This spot is . I was super pleased to see this bibimguksu style dish and even more surprised how delicious it was. The egg in the breakfast sandwich felt like it payed homage gyeranjim and gave it a unique and satisfying texture. Popcorn chicken was A1 too, and the fried dduk was the unexpected ingredient that topped off the dish (they season it with some gim powder/flakes). Overall coffee drinks (perilla tonic and cream latte?) were good too! The perilla tonic is a nice drink after a morning run with the bibimguksu (spicy noodle salad).
