Very disappointed! We ordered drinks as soon as we sat down and those came fast and were delicious - but the server took a very long time to come back and take our order, and then we waited 35 minutes for our food. A table that was sat after us got their food before us, and when we asked our server about it, her response was that their ticket was put in first. Not really a great excuse since we were sat first and ready to order (and waiting) immediately after she took our drinks but whatever. Anyway, the food finally came and it was absolutely not worth the wait at all. I got the Cali bagel sandwich on an everything bagel - the bagel was extremely underseasoned and had oats on it? Weird. The eggs were supposed to be medium poached and one of the eggs was verrrry overdone. The everything seasoned tater tots were barely seasoned yet again and extremely oily. The side latke was average at best and the latke that came under the eggs benedict was lukewarm. The corned beef hash was not really a hash either per my husband. Two stars because the vibe and patio were cool and the drinks were excellent. Both the bloody mary and the (seasonal) Tis the Season were the highlights of the meal. Here's my HONEST REVIEW of O'side's new deli spot , Ryes and Grind. I wish that other businesses would follow the model of this one kid on the block. So far, they are off to a great start! Ryes and Grind Deli is conveniently located just east off of Coast Highway. This means that they are convenient and close to many of the happenings of North Oceanside. But it also means that street parking may be a struggle at times. Good thing that there's plenty of parking two blocks down at our transit center. They also sport an open-air concept seating with a side patio. I also like the transparency, as the kitchen can be viewed through open window design. Another admirable trademark of Ryes and Grind is that stepped-in and are using many local brands in their start-up. They are a small local business that supports other small / local businesses. * They created a menu that is rich in deli-style sammichez and many other healthy breakfast/brunch items are also available . * What I love the most about Ryes & Grind is that they support several small businesses. Blown away by Rye's and Grind! I had the matcha and my friend had the cinnamon roll latte, both were phenomenal! We definitely over-ordered and had a ton of food (the portions are good size!) but we had breakfast leftover for the next day. :) You can tell they use high quality ingredients and the food is crafted with care. I was especially impressed with our drinks, the baristas know what they are doing! The waitress was super helpful and super nice as we took our time going through the menu and asking questions. The 14-hour smoked brisket was not smoky at all and it was the size of the 1/2 for the cost of $15.00 The one Chai drink I exchanged-out for the terrible matcha drink was delicious. I really enjoyed this place, but it aches knowing they could easily improve some minor (but important) aspects of their dishes!! Rye's and Grind is located in a very busy part of Oceanside, and yet the day we went, we were seated immediately. It was quite peaceful. The decor is really nice. It's super open-spaced, with high ceilings. They play great music and have glass windows that look into the kitchen so you can check out what the chefs are making. With this, the service was wonderful. Our server was super friendly and attentive and answered and questions we had. The food came out quickly, and everything tasted very fresh and hot!! However -- I have some big critiques that I do hope the kitchen will take into consideration!! None of these ruined the dishes, but, I do think they'd vastly improve the dish that I had. I started off with their matcha blueberry latter, which unfortunately was quite bitter. Matcha is naturally pretty bitter, but the blueberry did not sweeten it very well, which leads me to believe the blueberry may have been unripe! It also lacked a lot of the blueberry foam that was promised, and was filled to the brim with ice. I honestly would not order this again unless it were made sweeter. I know it's more common -- but maybe sticking to a strawberry matcha combination may be better. As for my dish, I got the eggs benedict with lox and it came with a side of breakfast potatoes. I specifically requested that the eggs be poached longer -- and the kitchen absolutely perfected this! Props to them! However, I feel the flavors of this dish are extreeeeemeeelyyy skewed. Lox is super salty, so to have this WITH capers too? It was a salt explosion. Unfortunately, something mild in flavor like hollandaise sauce did not counteract this saltiness very well, and the red onion and tomato was completely lost in the dish. I think adding less lox, and maybe taking out the capers and possibly pickling the onions would be a great improvement. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good, however the sauces that came on the side totally amplified the dish. I would definitely come back again because I did enjoy my experience, but I think that the dishes should be a little better and more balanced in flavor given the pricing. read more

Such a cool little spot tucked onto coast highway. Me and a friend went for lunch. Both of our sandwiches were delicious. The lox and bagel tasted so fresh and my friend had the turkey motheclucker, a warm delicious serving of thanksgiving in a sandwich served with warm gravy! Don's is typically our go to breakfast spot ... but think they have some fierce competition!!! Absolutely love this place and already craving to go back. I lived in Seattle for a little bit, so seeing the caffe vita coffee beans on display made my heart excited! Of course had to order coffee, in addition to food. Not a crumb was left of the Ruben sandwich. He devoured and cherished every bite. I wanted to devour my corned beef hash w/ potatoes & eggs, but I was simply too full. Made for great left overs though. I was a huge fan on the green sauce they served it with. Not too sure what exactly it was, but very fresh & string flavors of cilantro. I loved it! We loved being on the table with the big windows open, facing PCH, sun in our face & great tasting food. Was the perfect Sunday morning I must say. Can't wait for the many more to come! read more

I am not local to Oceanside, so unfortunately, I probably won't be seen here very often. That being said, everything we tried on the menu was delicious. The prices seemed a little high, but it is basically brunch at the beach, so "spendy" is almost expected at this point in SoCal. The service was excellent. The staff was very efficient and reasonably (not phony) friendly. Aside from some flies, (which I don't think can be helped when you are dealing with patio dining), the place was very clean with pleasant ambience. I would not hesitate to come here again. My only complaint isn't really about the restaurant, but parking in Oceanside can be a challenge. read more

Started w/spicy Bloody Mary's (pretty small mason jar glasses, but pickled bean, olive, Peppercino & celery .. asked for extra spicey, but not spicy at all) a Polar Bear coffee/vodka drink) & pastrami tater tots (not crispy enough, but enough pastrami, pickles & aioli that was tasty). Ordered an open faced lox & bagel. Tons of cream cheese & lox, with thinly sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion & capers. Couldn't finish even half of it. Price tag $22. (Non-open face sandwich is $16). Waitstaff recommended onion rings for the pastrami dip. Again, not as crisp as they could have been & the sandwich was much smaller than expected. It was tasty enough, but the jus was a little lack luster. Waitstaff was attentive enough & stayed on top of refills. Would likely go with a regular pastrami sandwich the next time (almost 2x price of the dip, so sure it would be a fairly substantial sandwich at I think $22. Might go back to try stuff off breakfast menu, but will skip the Bloody Mary's as not a good value. read more

What a MAJOR disappointment. I ordered the half sandwich, the menu says it's 1/2 lb of meat. Not true, unless they count the weight of the cow, before getting to the butcher. We took my husband here for Father's Day. He ordered matzah ball soup. The flavor was so good he had a second bowl. I was only able to sneak a spoon full before his eyes pierced my hand as to say keep out of there. lol I received the message. Very tasty. I ordered pastrami sandwich the meat was tender and lean. The bread was fresh and was served with/a side of your choice. Our waitress Coral was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and she took great care of us. One way to improve service is by reducing wait times and prioritizing orders in the order they were received. I noticed several people who arrived after us received their orders first. Our wait time exceeded 40 minutes for 3 people and drinks were served at different times instead of all at once. While the food was delicious, the restaurant needs better coordination with orders. Both were really tasty with the only downfall being that the potatoes were under-seasoned, but salt fixed that. Breakfast Booze! Dammit, I love me some breakfast booze. We ordered the Drunken Artic Monkey, Mother's Milk and Cheech & Chong (listed in order of best tasting to me... well, the 1st 2 are really a tie). My husband also ordered the mocha, which was good too. Mother's Milk has ube in it which delighted my 1/2 Filipina heart! The service was great - at first. We were seated right away with our dog (plenty of shaded patio seating). Our order and drinks were taken and out promptly. Prices are really steep, however, so this is a once-in-awhile special occasion type of place. Overall a very nice meal! I had to try the Matzo Ball soup as I think at a Jewish Deli you judge it by the soup and corned beef imho.. The soup was good but the matzo ball was denser than I prefer. My Daughter & I shared a knish and that was a big home run, cooked perfectly and spicy brown mustard that gave it a kick. Salmon Benedict was outstanding and they used a latke instead of an English muffin, I totally get take on a new way to serve it but it was a tad heavy with the latke. Service was very friendly but just a tad slow, which is to be expected at a new establishment-I look forward to trying it again and plan on coming back soon. Love the bakery & cool layout. Best pastrami in San Diego county, that I have found anyway. Shaved and grilled crispy, stacked up on house baked rye bread. Not my favorite rye. I think it needs to be a tighter more durable crumb like a hood deli rye bread, but it worked fine and I applaud that they go the extra mile to make it themselves. Great menu, great food, live music, full bar excellent coffee. Can't really ask for more. It's fantastic! read more

My son recommended this place. My wife and I thought we'd give it a try. When you first walk in it has an industrial vibe. Windows that roll up so you can sit looking out with seating on both sides of the window. You sit across from one another. It also has tables both indoors and in a covered patio. Gives you an outside seating feel. The place is very fresh looking. The menu is mostly deli, but not traditional. Very modern with an extensive coffee and liquor menu. I ordered the brisket dip and my wife the Rueben. Both were very good tasting and plentiful. Mine had a beet horseradish sauce on it. It was mild and I could have had it more spicy, but it did not detract from the taste at all. Along with the sandwich you got to pick a side. We both took advantage of ordering their onion rings. Saw them on another order, and had to try them. Not disappointed at all. Crunchy, large pieces and a generous serving. It came with a seasoned side of ranch. Overall I would go back. They looked absolutely delicious. When I receive the menu, I just kept noticing pastrami and that's actually one of my favorites so I couldn't wait to try it. The waitress greeted me. I also ordered a mango bloody Mary and I think this is absolutely one of the best Bloody Marys I've had, it didn't look too exciting, but it had the best flavor! Stopped in here for a early lunch with my mom. Let me start by saying the location is awesome. Decor inside is really contemporary and hip. Dog friendly patio is nice with about 10+ tables to sit at. The coffee did come out cold, but was happily replaced. Onto the food! I had the gabagool sando on the Dutch crunch bread. It was everything you need in a sandwich and more. Plenty of meat, cheese ratio was great, and the other toppings were well placed so you had a bit of pepporcini, red pepper, olive and lettuce in every bite. I honestly should've saved the other half for later, but forced it and I was super stuffed haha The latke was interesting, crispy on the outside but the inside was kind of doughy and soft. I would've rather had the tots or something else. It did come with 4 dipping sauces. Apple (didn't try) red and green salsa and cream cheese. My mom had the bagel sando. Everything bagel was well seasoned and egg, bacon and cheese all worked well together! I'd definitely come back, but I'd take the other half of the sandwich to go. My father and I wanted to grab some brunch after a long road trip across the country. We arrived around 10:30AM and we were seated promptly. We were sat on the patio on a 4-top. The seating was comfortable and shady. Our charismatic server greeted us with a beautiful smile and made great recommendations in regards to drinks and food, which we took to consideration.
