Dobbs has a frame for you whether you are going for a classic, trendy, nerdy, retro, naughty librarian, or a wholesome look. This family owned business offers service and eye exams of high quality as well. Dobbs would not look or feel out of place if it were located on the corner of Oak and Michigan Ave.

I was coming back from Battle Creek VA after a visit with the optometrist there and decided to stop at the Hiemstra store in Kalamazoo on my way home. I ordered a pair of glasses with no issues, but I requested that their store send my glasses to the Paw Paw Hiemstra location as it is closer to where I live. I was assured they would do that. About a week later, I received a call from the Kalamazoo location letting me know they were in at their store. Again, I requested that they be sent to the Paw Paw location. A few days later the Paw Paw location let me know the glasses were in. The next morning I arrived at the Paw Paw location and checked in to get them and then was asked to take a seat...and there I sat forever. I watched as the store staff seemed to be channeling the DMV. They farted around, talked, drank coffee, and seemed to do everything but help customers waiting. There was one person on staff helping a customer, while the other two optical staff seemed to have more important things to do. They finally got around to me, and I got out of there, breathing a sigh of relief as one might after a visit to the DMV. Do better Hiemstra!

We were given a pickup deadline of January 3, 2026. Today is January 3. That is 21 days after the order, and the glasses are still not ready. When my partner called today, the only update was: "they aren't in yet." Staff acknowledged the deadline has passed but gave no explanation and no new timeline. The store did not contact him before the deadline passed. This delay has real consequences. His existing glasses have deteriorated to the point of being unusable, and he depends on corrective lenses to drive safely and perform his job. Missing a promised pickup date for basic single-vision glasses, with no communication or urgency, puts unnecessary strain on someone who relies on vision to work and commute safely. Waiting 21 days for standard single-vision glasses and still missing the promised date is unacceptable. If you need glasses within a reasonable timeframe, do not rely on this location. One star.

Despite that, the employee added a $39.99 insurance charge without consent. When questioned, she didn't offer a refund--she handed over a $25 gift card instead, claiming it was a "misunderstanding." My wife asked why she wasn't just refunded the full amount, and the associate admitted the charge but insisted it was a mistake. This felt less like an honest error and more like a push for commission. Now we're stuck waiting days for a refund we never should've needed. If you shop here, double-check your receipt and be cautious--especially if you decline add-ons. We won't be returning.

They always have fantastic suggestions for frames and colors for matting. My husband made a wood burning project as a kid that we found in the attic, and I wanted to have it framed for him as a surprise. The project turned out amazing and it is due to the artistry with which the project was approached. They suggested a really cool rustic frame with a very different mat that I never would have thought of. It made for such a meaningful gift. I've been to other places where there might be one or two people who truly have a good eye, but at Frames Unlimited on West Main in Kalamazoo, they are all fantastic! Years ago, my now husband had gifted me a beautiful framed print from Frames Unlimited. I tracked down two other prints from the same artist to make a triptych, but I needed them matted and framed. Frames Unlimited meticulously went through their mats to figure out which white mat they had originally used (there are dozens). They also matched the black frame. The result was a beautiful looking set. We also had something we needed framed without the glass (it's a scratch off map) that another framing place in town said they wouldn't be able to do. It wasn't an issue at all for Frames Unlimited. Everyone I interacted with here was pleasant, and when I went to pick up my pieces, an employee helped carry everything to my car. The turnaround was faster than expected as well--they said it might be a couple of weeks but called me to say my order was ready in just about one. I really appreciate their commitment to customer service and would definitely recommend this place to others.
