I was coming back from Battle Creek VA after a visit with the optometrist there and decided to stop at the Hiemstra store in Kalamazoo on my way home. I ordered a pair of glasses with no issues, but I requested that their store send my glasses to the Paw Paw Hiemstra location as it is closer to where I live. I was assured they would do that. About a week later, I received a call from the Kalamazoo location letting me know they were in at their store. Again, I requested that they be sent to the Paw Paw location. A few days later the Paw Paw location let me know the glasses were in. The next morning I arrived at the Paw Paw location and checked in to get them and then was asked to take a seat...and there I sat forever. I watched as the store staff seemed to be channeling the DMV. They farted around, talked, drank coffee, and seemed to do everything but help customers waiting. There was one person on staff helping a customer, while the other two optical staff seemed to have more important things to do. They finally got around to me, and I got out of there, breathing a sigh of relief as one might after a visit to the DMV. Do better Hiemstra!

We were given a pickup deadline of January 3, 2026. Today is January 3. That is 21 days after the order, and the glasses are still not ready. When my partner called today, the only update was: "they aren't in yet." Staff acknowledged the deadline has passed but gave no explanation and no new timeline. The store did not contact him before the deadline passed. This delay has real consequences. His existing glasses have deteriorated to the point of being unusable, and he depends on corrective lenses to drive safely and perform his job. Missing a promised pickup date for basic single-vision glasses, with no communication or urgency, puts unnecessary strain on someone who relies on vision to work and commute safely. Waiting 21 days for standard single-vision glasses and still missing the promised date is unacceptable. If you need glasses within a reasonable timeframe, do not rely on this location. One star.

Despite that, the employee added a $39.99 insurance charge without consent. When questioned, she didn't offer a refund--she handed over a $25 gift card instead, claiming it was a "misunderstanding." My wife asked why she wasn't just refunded the full amount, and the associate admitted the charge but insisted it was a mistake. This felt less like an honest error and more like a push for commission. Now we're stuck waiting days for a refund we never should've needed. If you shop here, double-check your receipt and be cautious--especially if you decline add-ons. We won't be returning.

I ended up being scammed by Richland eye care, scammed out of a whopping $300. I ordered a year…read moresupply of contacts through Richland eye care. The total was over $1,000. The reason I purchased a yearly supply was because of the $400 rebate from acuvue Kat informed me of. Saying it was a pretty incredible rebate. $400 rebate? Why wouldn't I purchase the year supply? Kat (along with another employee) told me all I had to do was go to the acuvue website follow the reward instructions and make sure I input a NEW email address. I did that. It did not give me a $400 rebate only a $100 rebate. Kat left me a voicemail saying "Jenny we talked about this, you must've forgotten, make sure you're using a work email or different email." I don't even have a work email because I'm a stay-at-home mom (hence why the $300 loss is a hard one.) I called kat back to inform her it's not an email address I needed, then they gave me two codes to input on the acuvue rewards website. I submitted all the necessary info. Still, a $100 rebate. Even if you use a new email- acuvue still has your information. You make a new profile with a new email address, you still have to input your first name and your last name your mailing address and your date of birth, using a new email doesn't do anything. So instead of getting the $400 rebate I was assured of receiving multiple times. I lost $300 and am only receiving $100. Not a single employee ever knows what's going on there and will steer you in any direction to get your money. Go elsewhere, learn from my loss!

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes (the Covid-19 pandemic was beginning to spread). Everything was closing, including the surgery center in Portage. I was the last patient for more than 2 months. That meant my second eye surgery was cancelled. However, I was able to contact them if I needed to and get answers to any questions during that time. Dr. Joseph Doe had done my husband's cataract surgery and he has been very happy with the results. When the surgery center reopened, I was contacted immediately for my second cataract surgery. I am now on my third day after surgery. I have been back to be checked to make sure everything is healing properly. I am THRILLED with my 20/20 vision! Only inexpensive reading glasses required! Dr. Joseph Doe is friendly, kind, and reassuring as is everyone in that office! I'm 79 years old. I have NEVER SEEN BETTER IN MY LIFE! I highly recommend these folks.

After I checked in at the front desk I was seen immediately by Mark, the doctor's assistant. He took down information, assessed my problem, and dilated my eye. Dr Hicknor came in shortly and did the eye exam. He explained that I had a posterior vitreous detachment, but no damage to the retina. This is what was causing my eye floaters. Luckily got me no treatment is required. Will be seen for a follow up exam. I highly recommend this ophthalmologist
