Delivered my glasses to get replacement for scratched lenses. I waited a couple weeks and called to check the status. They had made the lenses in the wrong shape and needed to remake them. They assured me it would only take a few days to correct, but now they're pushing it down to the end of next week "if all goes well" My vision is poor and I'm unable to drive and struggling to do daily tasks. I have been trying to get my glasses corrected since the beginning of January. They have thrown away my lenses twice, credited an incorrect FSA card without my consent. They are asking me to locate the old card or previous employer to assist them in getting the funds back. The manager Michelle has been avoiding me for months and won't even give me eye contact when I come in. The 'optician' keeps blaming the mistakes on some 'new medication' that she is taking. I bought this pair of Draper James glasses in March and the hinge broke on them. They are treating this as a warranty issue when it's obviously a manufacturer defect. I have never broken a pair of glasses in my life ( and I've worn glasses for over 25 years) and in the span of 7 months, my husbands glasses broke (we paid the warranty, no issues), but in this case, I opened them up just to put them on and they fell apart. I explained this to Angelle, who kept leaving to talk to someone? She insisted it was a warranty issue and insisted on charging me despite the insistence that this was a manufacturer issue. I also paid extra for anti-scratch coating and despite using their lens cleaner and cloth exclusively, my glasses are riddled with scratches. This combined with being threatened to be sent to collections for a visit I had on the same day as my husband, billed under MY insurance, yet I was told he was covered but I was not covered under my own plan. I spent over an hour arguing that issue as well. RX Optical has seriously lost a customer that has bought several pairs of glasses, but this past year shows me the rapid decline of customer service and there are better, cheaper, places to buy glasses as disposable as the ones provided here. read more

I am taking to google and yelp to tell of the WONDERFUL customer service, and gracious generosity, I received at RxOptical on Westnedge Dr. in Portage Michigan. Now, I buy my glasses and contacts online because I don't have vision insurance and it's cheaper online to purchase them. However, the glasses do not come adjusted to my specific face shape and ear distance so I have to find a local business to adjust them for me. This has proved to be difficult at times and I am often met with a less than positive attitude, and one time, I had a local place try and charge me $30 for the adjustment AFTER he did it without telling me of the cost up front. Wowza! Well, you can imagine my surprise when I randomly showed up at RxOptical and was greeted with warm and friendly service from the staff. Big shout out to John the general manager, who personally adjusted my glasses better than anyone ever has, and his awesome staff. Furthermore, I still had two pairs at home that I tried to adjust myself to no avail so I called up RxOptical and they said come on in! I had John adjust my two more pairs, with all 3 adjustment being done at no cost. If you're ever on Portage Michigan and you are looking for a great optical experience, go see John and his friendly, well-trained staff. Thanks John! I greatly appreciate all of you guys!! read more

Way overpriced even though they were in network. $329.00 for just an eye exam but stated that was before insurance. This is wrong for the people that may not have insurance. I felt big sales push once I finished my exam. 100% not going back. read more

I called the 6123 S Westnedge Ave. Portage, MI location in April to make an eye exam appointment for my niece. They couldn't fit her in until late June. Near her appointment time I received a text message from them to confirm the appointment. Respond with Y for yes or N for no. I responded Y for yes and received a thank you response text message for confirming. We show up and the place is closed. I call the number and get the after hours call person. She asked for my niece name and date of birth. She looked her up and apologized. She said she don't know why they are not there. I would give this place zero stars but I had to select one star in order to post this. read more

We have been going to Rx Optical for many, many years. While I was working, we were able to get our eyes checked every year. Now that I'm retired, we can go every other year. We make sure we get our eyes checked every other year. Their Dr. is very professional, and I feel that I get a thorough exam and that my eyes are in "good hands". My only complaint is the variety of glass frames. They don't seem to have a lot of frames that fit in the "I'm retired and living on a fixed income" budget. It seems like they have a rack of "special insurance" frames that are reasonable, but if you don't have that special insurance, you can't get those frames. They don't seem to have a lot of frames in the $100 - $125 range which is what most insurances will pay for. Since my husband wears bifocals, and I know we're going to have to pay extra for his lenses, I don't like having to match what my insurance will pay just to get my husband a good pair of glasses. As far as quality -- yes, they are great. As far as being affordable and reasonable -- that's why 3 stars. read more

I liked this place. Eye exam was 200% better then the trash the MarineCorps gave to me. Doctor explained everything well and made it simple easy quick. Honestly blew my mind with all the information. Now the front desk staff didn't explain much to me on what I would be getting however I didn't explain or ask either so mainly my fault. Total charged was 880 and only paid 290. I don't even know what the heck I bought so hopefully I like them. Lastly i don't know if there is a reason for it but there was like 0 lighting in there. So when looking at the frames on I couldn't even tell the color of the glasses. So pretty sure I got turtle print or something so hopefully it's not a light brown or something I wanted plain black or brown. read more

I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor. He made a rude comment about my weight, yes that's right my weight, and then continued to make fun of how bad my eyes are. I've never thought I would ever have to deal with stuff like that by a doctor! They made we wait for a very long time in between seeing the doctor and checking out. I should have just walked out. It was just a horrible experience. I will never go back to any RX optical again. One last thing they tried selling me contacts for $100 per box over retail price. Talk about an up charge! Sales people are rude. Very dishonest about purchase policies. Very pushy with up sales. Don't stand behind their products. Make you jump through hoops to get refunded on guaranteed products but telling you we can't refund your cash that you paid but, don't worry your inconvenient check is in the mail.I do not recommend this place, prices are very expensive. read more

The doctor and staff at the Portage location was amazing, so down to earth and easy to talk to. Great experience for me and my husband.

I had a really great customer service experience there yesterday! The people at the front desk helped me promptly and were very friendly and helpful. I was learning how to put contacts in and Jonie stayed with me to help me get them in, even though I was struggling and it took quite a while. Afterwards, she got me set up with the order I made for new lenses I needed for my glasses, and answered my many questions about pricing and information about the contacts as well. I haven't had such informative, friendly, prompt, and patient customer service anywhere in a long time! read more

Just like the Yelper before me, everything was ok. The wait before my exam was longer than the whole exam itself. When looking at eyeglasses they don't have a lot of brands and styles to choose from. Staff is overall friendly but the staff takes FOREVER to finish what you come in for. My husband and I wanted to reorder contacts and it took about 30 minutes of waiting for someone to help us. It was a weekday afternoon and there were a few customers but not overly crowded. We left because we had other things to do. Another time just my husband went in and it took about an hour to order contacts. If you do come here, avoid getting help from a man named Tyler (bigger guy with glasses). He takes way too long and hangs out in the backroom while he works with you. He's a friendly guy but could put more proficiency in his work ethic. read more

I got everything I needed here, but the eye exam itself was the most rushed I've ever been in. A few, "Is A better or B better" and poof eye exam over. No looking in my eyes with a bright light and the testing was the most minimal I've ever seen. Prepare to be herded in and out at warp speed. read more
