This is the second time eating here. The first time was also excellent, but forgot to review. Went here for a date night and had a beautiful table in a semi-private room. The service was excellent, where our server was awesome always checking on us, our busser was excellent always making sure our table was clear as our meal progressed, and even the maitre'd visited us a couple of times, ensuring we were having an excellent experience. They immediately brought us bread, which was good and took our drink orders. They also explained the specials for the night. We never felt rushed at all during the evening. We started off with the sautéed crab claws with artichoke hearts and mushrooms. These were probably the best crab claws I have ever had. The sauce they were in was buttery and full of flavor. Our entrees were the Chilian Sea Bass, Ribeye, along with the Au Gratin potatoes in a cheese sauce and Cremini Mushrooms. I can't describe how awesome the sea bass was. The fish was flaky and almost like a lump crab texture that just melted in your mouth. We ordered the ribeye rare and pittsburghed, which was tender and cut very easily. The sides were also delicious. Our meal was plentiful and we did pack up leftovers because we were saying room for dessert. We ordered the chocolate sin cake, which had almost a fudge like texture and ordered a side of vanilla ice cream to accompany it. . Dessert was very good! Had the special double cut pork chop. Seasoned very well, and clearly some sort of "heritage" pork. Marbled, tender, and flavor of pork. Wife had crab cakes - pretty much all crab, with little "filler". Spectacularly good. Cocktails were well crafted and delicious. Absolutely this restaurant never let you down. It is my safe space for quality food during travel for work. I do travel once a week therefore, it's important that I have some restaurants that will give me consistency on my chicken entrées. Birthday dinner was amazing! We haven't been since right after the covid days and I have to say, it was so much better. The service was stellar and the wine that Anne chose for us was perfect paired with my petite filet, lobster tail duo, and Britt's veal chop. The asparagus was fresh and cooked just right. If I could give this place zero stars I would. My husband and I love Ruth's Chris but this location has terrible customer service. We attempted to make reservations over the phone when the hostess on the phone told me that they were fully booked for the night we were looking to dine. I asked if the bar would be open she said yes and it's first come first serve. I said thank you and ended the call. Due to the fact that our only option was to sit at the bar we decided to go as soon as they opened so we could be FIRST. They open at 5. My husband and I arrived a few minutes after 5 and requested to sit at the bar for after the conversation we had with the hostess over the phone. However, the hostess at the restaurant stated unless we had reservations we could NOT be seated at the bar. *insert confused face* We have previously dinned at this exact Ruth's location and sat at the bar without reservations. Why were we told we could have sat at the bar over phone. However when we arrived we were refused service. Talk about blatant racism. I've never experienced anything like this before. After our terrible customer service encounter here. We called the location in Biloxi because we never heard of needing reservations for the bar area at Ruth. We called Biloxi and was told that their bar was also first come first serve. We drove an hour to Biloxi and guess what.. we were gladly seated! We will NEVER return to this location! MY wife and I went there for our 22 Wedding Anniversary. We had been there a 3 times in the Past and were impressed enough to want to spend this special evening there. After this last time we will never return! we paid $350 for 2 people. I am aware it is an expensive Restaurant but I was appalled at the food. Top Dollar for a Small Frozen Lobster tail? I ordered an 11oz filet medium rare, it was cooked medium rare but it had no flavor and was far from tender, it was very tough. There are two Ruth Chris locations close to where I live. One location is located in a casino 7.5 miles from my house and this one located 56 miles away in Mobile, AL. I choose this location every time I need a Ruth Chris fix. The service is top notch and consistent, we have never had a bad experience here. My favorites are the sizzling crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms, wedge salads, and of course the sizzling steaks! The side dishes are enough for 4 servings. The bread pudding dessert is awesome. Actually wanted to give 2.5 stars Food 2 stars Ribeye (med rare) was pretty chewy and not seasoned well at all. Cooked to a perfect medium rare though. Lobster bisque was inedible. Even worse than the hot bar at Publix. Loaded baked potato was cold (should have sent it back but figured the steak would have been cold by the time I got it back). Always great food. Always great service. This is our go to for almost every special day. We have tried several menu items over the years and every one was excellent. Steaks are cooked exactly to order from mooing to charred. Wedge salad and Chop salad are my favorites. The atmosphere is super and we are treated like royalty. Let me just say, before the "Darden Foods" takeover, Ruth's food was a little above average and pretty good! Sadly, those day are long, long gone. It felt as though the staff is trained to "pump" everything up knowing the food quality and quantity is a joke. It's like they are acting in a movie but aside from that, the service was good and they do a decent job of tending to the table. Overall the food we ordered from the top down was very pedestrian,below average and skimpy in my opinion compared to years ago... The Filet had the flavor of liver, so after the first bite I stopped eating it, hoping the crab cake which was actually a crab ball would be better...it wasn't, it was fishy and sadly they are using canned pasteurized crab meat...so one bite and done on the "Oscar" portion of my Filet. It's pretty pathetic that we are located on the gulf coast in the heart of crab central and they don't use fresh crab meat from Bayou La Batre'...The Bernaise sauce they drizzled on it was pretty bad too, tasted canned and processed and not good at all. I know what it should taste like because I make sauces at home and wherever this came from isn't close to what I make. The Lobster Bisque was not good at all. It was way too thick and gelatinous, similar to a chowder and had a very odd flavor. Since they sadly do not have fresh Maine lobster on site any longer, I can't imagine how they are making a lobster stock, the backbone of a good bisque or sauce. My husband and I decided to drive an hour to this location to enjoy a date night. The service Seth provided was impeccable. He was attentive and a great conversationalist. The food was delicious and came out sizzling hot - a tradition of Ruth's Chris. As our night continued, I started noticing that the Queen's Room, to the "back"of the restaurant, contained only African American families. But as we were leaving and walking towards the front of the restaurant, we passed dining areas that were filled with Caucasian families. I did discuss this with the Manager on duty but suggest dispersement of clientele to make everyone feel welcomed, appreciated and included. read more

We came to Ruth Chris Mobile on a Tuesday evening. Upon entering the restaurant we were met with not one, but two signs that cell phones are not allowed in the dining room. As we are seated, there is ANOTHER homemade sign on the table, literally right in the middle of the table asking for the same. After ordering our meal, we were greeted by the manager asking if we were enjoying our time. Nothing wrong with that. After our meal was served my girlfriend decided to go ahead and take a picture of the food to post on social media to friends. Not 5 seconds after picking up her phone the manager rushed over asking why she was taking pics of the food and disrupting our meal. We put the phone down and ate, ordered dessert, had a good time. However i was very displeased that the manager felt the need to rush over and ask about pics or try and enforce some horrible policy about cell phone use at the table. I've been to many world class restaurants who weren't a Ruth Chris in Mobile and never had a silly policy like this in place. It's not like we were in LA and snapping pics of celebrities at 7 pm on a Tuesday night in Mobile. This policy makes zero sense, is class less when done with two signs in the front and silly cards on the table. Then to have the manager come and interrupt our meal about taking pics of THEIR food which we were proud to eat and show off. RC-Mobile has this classic feel and upscale vibe that hasn't been matched at any of the locations I've visited. I mean, it has stained glass windows for Pete's sake (who does that?!) and the servers wear steward jackets (yep, you read that correctly!) The food is perfectly cooked, and presented every single time. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself) And, for me, they're the Ruth's Chris standard that the others should strive for. We had a date night tonight at Ruth's Chris. I am fortunate to have had a client give me a gift certificate. This has, in my experience, always been the best Ruth's Chris in the country, so I was hesitant, given some of the reviews after having lived in Houston, Miami and Denver for the past 15 years. The food was amazing. The service was even better. It is rare to find a veal chop in Mobile and that was a special tonight. It was absolutely perfect and cooked rare as I prefer. For an appetizer, the crab claws, a Mobile original, could not have been better if Bill Bayley had cooked them himself. Even though they had cocktail sauce, I think they were even better with the offered remoulade. Our server Andrew was amazing, the bus boy Cornell was as well. The manager Ann was a delight. Though I do have complaints about the "vibe" that was being given off. Coming from California, Ruth's Chris isn't that big of a deal. My party didn't care though, we come from California, where everyone is always judging. It was also a birthday dinner for twins so we weren't going to let anything bring us down while we were visiting. However, I, on the other hand, do feel that SOME of the employees had no right to stop working and stare at us as we were escorted to our table. We were conveniently sat all the way in the back in a private room by ourselves. Unsure if that was because it was really indeed the only table available or if management themselves felt "embarrased" of us and didn't want customers to complain. The management at that Ruth's Chris location should be lucky to have the waitress that was at our table that night. She had true southern hospitality. Had it been one of those other servers, I'd probably not even give this 3 stars. She was a middle aged women who used to work as a teacher so perhaps her manners came from always working with children. A party of 6, our bill came out to about $1500. Very much expected when eating at a "high end" restaurant. Though, I bet unexpected from the some of the judgemental employees at the establishment. Moral of the review, please treat all people equally no matter their appearance. I am almost positive that a lot of those "nicer" dressed folk didn't even spend close to us that night. The layout of the restaurant has changed a bit. We were in a semiPrivate booth with curtains. Not to shabby. The food was excellent as always. Steaks and Shrimp have been our go to. On one hand, Mobile as gotten down to only a very few places that I would consider true fine-dining that covers ALL of the components thereof that imbue the term, and our particular Ruth's Chris location is such a gem that we are certainly glad to have it. But there's no getting around the fact that it's a chain; experience makes chain quality food glaringly obvious and consequently loses some appeal by nature. My hub and I are medical and have eaten here quite frequently over the years for business. In fact hubs attended a dinner here just a few weeks ago; I opted to pass. During these occasions we are placed in either The Club Room or another room suited for banquet dining. Because we're here so often for business, it's very rare that we opt here for when we're just going out for the two of us. Last night hub surprised me having been a while for us due to covid and we wanted someplace with a softly-lit, sophisticated atmosphere with a "nicer-dining" menu. Hubs called on a whim, on a Wednesday, to make our same-day reservation and was able to get in. He was reminded over the phone of their attire policy. He has recently become somewhat of a tequila snob and we were pleased to see that the bar carries a couple of the more high end labels, only the two but it's something. We ordered a round of tequila based cocktails at our table to accompany our appetizer course and they were very nice. My honest impression of our appetizers is that we could have gotten them anywhere... RC and Felix's are owned by the same company and Felix's' calamari is wonderful; last night's at RC was good, tossed with brightly flavored sautéed red peppers, but not spectacular and served sans a delectable dipping sauce. Also, one of the specials this evening was crab-stuffed jalapeños served with a remoulade which I'm not going to berate, but they were very chain quality - they would fit right in on a Chili's or TGIF menu, the remoulade being very similar to Felix's'. Moving on, I opted for the lamb chops entree. I love lamb chops but couldn't eat these though it was no fault of the kitchen. I didn't want to send the chops back just because I wasn't overly fond of them, so they were boxed to take home. We opted to forgo coffee and dessert. I was disheartened last night as we arrived and were guided to our seats but taken right back to the very same back room we get relegated to all other times we are here with a group. For our spontaneous mid-week date night evening out that we were in desperate need of being finally on the back side of holiday stress, I was looking forward to having a nice, quiet, dark and cozy table for two in one of the other more intimate dining rooms, not plopped in an over-sized vinyl booth in the brightly lit "pub" styled area with the tv on and the kitchen noise on the opposite side of our wall that would startle us occasionally and shake the table. Actually this has happened a few times now but I haven't been there in so long I completely forgot this was an issue until it happened again last night. I'm very introverted but I wish I had found the nerve to speak up and insist on being seated in a different area. So note to self and to any others who have a preference: be specific to what you have in mind when making your reservation. If you are going as a casual outing with another couple or some friends, this room is perfect for those occasions. As mentioned, we frequent this is a place mostly for business with other medical professionals and occasionally it's a place the two of us will choose when we want a relaxing dinner as a treat or a few rare but precious mom-daughter evenings; I do acknowledge that when it comes to fine dining, there's a less than socially acceptable element of noting cost, but for many (especially in our current economy) this factor shouldn't be an after thought when considering budgeting for a dining experience. So for folks reading this looking to weigh value against cost, I hope to have provided a helpful and informative review: DO consider this one of our few really nice special-occasion venues; DO expect exceptional, courteous, intuitive and attentive service; DO expect to dine in an elegantly intimate or nicely casual atmosphere depending on seating location; DO accept the price for your evening will reflect the overall experience, not necessarily the market value or local quality of the menu items. Three stars for overall excellence in service and venue environment but also taking into consideration the predictability and consistency that renders the menu almost generic which can diminish the appeal and quality of the dishes as is the unavoidable nature chain restaurants, as well as my unfortunate personal experience of being relegated to the same out-of-the-way, low-key-casual room next to the kitchen in oversized booths for a two top anticipating a more intimate dining experience and ambience in one of the other dining rooms on now more than one occasion. read more

This was our first trip to Ruth's Chris. I have heard other people going here on special occasions. So, for our 27th anniversary, I decided to give it a try. Admittedly, I had some trepidation when I read some of the reviews about the service staff interactions related to dress code and phone usage. But the website seemed clear about what was expected (business casual), so we were fine. In fact, the server added a sparkler to our dessert and my wife took a pic of it--he was cool about it and didn't say anything about her using the phone. I think the idea is not to take phone calls inside or be constantly using the phone. Actually, we were greeted multiple times by staff in a pleasant way. I'm not necessarily a fine dining type of person, so I'm not used to the constant attention by someone. It was almost to the point of being intrusive, since it seemed to always be in the middle of a conversation. Still, I never had need of anything (e.g., refills). While we weren't attempting to be cheap, we did only go with water and the dessert was on the house because of our anniversary. Still, budget $100 per person after tip. As for the food, the bread was good, the lobster bisque was really good (prob my favorite thing of the meal), the steak was sizzling and good (a little under cooked though), and the mashed potatoes were bland. This place is known as a nice, special occasion kind of place. There are most definitely some good items on the menu, but the atmosphere isn't what I'd call romantic. They light candles, so I'll give them that. I tried the steak on three different occasions. The first two times, I chose the filet because it is highly recommended. It was cooked nicely, but for filet, It just wasn't as tender as I had hoped. Then I had a ribeye that was flat out disappointing. When I mentioned to a friend that I wasn't crazy about their steak, he recommended the stuffed chicken breast. Now that is the dish to get! Rarely will I order chicken out, but this is an exception. It's stuffed with a mixture of cheese and herbs and just has a really great flavor. I've also had the crab cakes and enjoyed that dish. The atmosphere is louder than what I'm looking for on a romantic date night. The last time we went, we were sat in the room with a bar, which had a TV. I wasn't crazy about that. If I want to pay attention to TV while I'm out to dinner then I'll go to a sports bar. The place kinda reminds me of a frat house. Maybe it's the dark walls. Or maybe it's because you pass a shrine of photos of a bunch of white guys when you go to the restroom. Lovely restaurant and ambience. Was here for some training so dined at the bar and enjoyed the shrimp cocktail with a remoulade sauce and had the tuna appetizer. For dinner I ordered the lobster tail which was cooked perfectly and they have a signature ice cream cocktail drink which is out of this world.
