Ribeye Steak with coffee rub accompanied by tomatoes with blue cheese.
Jeff M.

It has been 10 years since I reviewed the Rutherford Grill. Tonight's visit has me questioning whether I should return in the future. My gripe might seem petty but my order of sausage and a chicken thigh was pathetic. The thigh looked like it was cut in half. Very little meat, rubbery skin, about 2 bites and it was gone. The beanie wienies they call sausages were not much better. It seemed like a complete ripoff for the price I paid. I have frequented Rutherford Grill many times over the past 20 years. Tonight was a total let down. Not going to rush to return. Too many other places that would like to have my business. Note: prior pictures listed are not from this visit.

Rutherford grill is always our go to when we did wine tasting. Food is always fantastic here, last time we went we had the bbq ribs, the meat fell right off the bone and so good. I ordered the pork chop, super lucked out because there were only a few left. That pork chop is massive like a double decker, but the meat inside was so tender and juicy. The service is great and attentive. Ambiance is rustic, dimmed, relaxing. Only missing is perhaps a live piano music. Will come back when going for wine tasting again. Thanks.

We regularly go to Rutherford Grill. It is one of our favorite places in the Napa area. The honey butter cornbread bytes are one of our must haves unless trying to reduce carbs. They are served in a small cast iron heated skillet. Yum. The flying Tuna tartare appetizer is a favorite that we often have. Tonight we had roasted kale with bread. We thank Helena, our server for recommending it. The double cut pork chop, cooked over the wood grill, was excellently grilled. We really like the smokiness of wood fired cooking for special evenings. For dessert, a double espresso and ice cream covered with espresso chocolate sauce. Yum. The restaurant is nicely set around the bar and the kitchen area. This makes for a nice elegant meal in a romantic setting. We highly recommend Rutherford Grill.

This is a great place with wonderful food. I've gone to many Hillstone/Houston properties in my lifetime. Rutherford seems to one of the best along with Los Altos Grill. The hostess team and wait staff seem positive and always happy. Upbeat ambience with good food.

French dip with the broccolini

Excellent French dip sandwich. I asked for more well done meat and I got what I asked for. I usually don't eat beef but this was too delicious to pass. Shoe string French fries were great, so were the broccolini side. Hubby had the burger which tasted fine but patty was thinner than expected according to him. This place shares the same parking lot with Beaulieu Vineyard tasting room. Can walk between the two places in thirty seconds.

This restaurant is a part of a chain that includes Houstons. This ensures consistency and Rutherford Grill is nothing if not consistent and this is important because dining in Napa is so hit and miss. A restaurant can be great one night and mid the next. Rutherford Grill is a go to for me because dishes like the French Dip are always tasty. I especially enjoy their salads. The rotisserie chicken kale salad has a wonderful peanut dressing that brings all the flavors together. It feels like a cosy den at Rutherford Grill with a welcoming vibe and wonderful service.

Rutherford Grill is one of the most reliably good restaurants in the valley. The whole restaurant is cozy, low lighting and easy to hear your friends. The booths contain the sound, so even when the restaurant is full, it's not loud. The servers are personable and friendly, they connect with the guests - and for us locals, they remember and bond!!! Our friends knew all their life details and vice versa- like FRIENDS! The food is excellent. Fresh, flavorful and tasty! Meats cooked perfectly, salads bright and chilled just perfectly. Plated fancy! Bring your friends, everyone will enjoy.

Always a great time here with great food! Truly a Napa local staple. Good sized protein + salad plates that also taste divine. I appreciate the mood setting in the establishment. Also appreciate how on point the hospitality is. Can't forget how good the oreo dessert is either! A must.

We come to this restaurant every time we visit Napa Valley. The food and service is consistently good. This time was no different. We came with family members who have never been. They had the ribs and I ordered the trout with coleslaw. Delicious. Service was great! Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant.

Cam, you were just incredible! I've written a few reviews here, and the food is just consistent every single time! But Cam was just an awesome server, and we enjoyed him so much! The service is just unbelievable! They are great about sharing plates here and still Kaump your first bottle of wine that you bring. We shared a salad and had blue cheese crumbles and man was that a good little salad! We also shared the french fries and French dip... You have to try their spicy aïoli on their fries... They are totally addicting! Absolutely delicious. Thank you, Cam and Rutherford Grill!

I unfortunately found myself pretty disappointed with Rutherford Grill. It came highly recommended by some friends so we went when in the area, but it didn't really meet expectations for me. The staff was a bit rude to be honest--after making a reservation and checking back in after the time we were told, we still had to wait even longer. More disappointing though was the food. The portions were simply not worth the price--$30 for this relatively small sandwich! I understand it's Napa but still. The flavor wasn't anything special in my opinion to make up for it either. Same applies to the sides, we got fries and cornbread bites. Again, this did not meet expectations and I would very likely not return.

This is a favorite of mine, not only for the consistently good food, but always impeccably friendly service. I brought some meat-eating "out of towners" that I knew the menu could satisfy well. We thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you, Lena (and Jaslyn)!!

Shelf above toilet paper!!

Phew. Boyfriend was craving and raving about the artichoke. Wasn't on the menu, but ASK- it was available and lived up to the hype. Sooo delicious. Smoky, perfectly seasoned and served with the remoulade that we asked more of for our fries that were coming. He had the French dip and that bun and meat with the dip melted in your mouth. I had the special- pork chop with potatoes and napa cabbage with feta-sold. Service was almost too efficient-took things we were not done with, but in so nice about it. You know I'm here for the bathrooms- super clean (great sign of the kitchen) but please note the picture- they offered a shelf above the toilet paper for your phone or purse! Thank you. Oh and the dessert was delicious- He ate it all

Can u order the cornbread only to go?

I think so. Call them to verify.

Do they take reservations? and if so is there a minimum/maximum amount of people?

Yes they do. And take walkins also. If it's just you, just walk in and go to the bar and sit down. Usually reservations are good for 2 or 3 and more. My recommendation is to make one. This place is extremely popular and gets busy.

Are there choices for gluten free foods?

Yes there are!

Corkage fee? If yes, how much?

While working in St. Helena, I could never find an opening in a reservation, so here was a great opportunity now that all of us are retired. Our friends live in Clear Lake while we live in Vallejo, so this is a central place to meet. It was the best decision I made because every year for the past several anniversaries, we've gone to Cache Creek to C2. Their food and service is excellent because my husband enjoys poker, but I thought a change of scenery would be nice. And it was! Firstly, it was very kind of the staff to present us with a greeting card signed by everyone -- how sweet and thoughtful! We will cherish that! Secondly, we were very impressed with how the food/wine was locally sourced. It was incredible to hear the story about Custom, the Bull, and taste the difference between the Highland beef compared to Angus. Our waitress was "Erica S." She was engaging, personable, and very informative. My husband and I would definitely like to return to return to experience the dinner menu! We and our guests had the following dishes: Artichoke appetizer Arbororio Biscuits & Gravy Two Cheeseburgers Three Bloody Mary's Farmstead Margarita When they found out it was our anniversary celebration, the house sent over four glasses of complimentary champagne and a dish of dessert -- again, very sweet and kind of them I now understand why so many crowds flock to this restaurant! It's well worth the wait! If you have not experienced a meal there, you must definitely go now!

From the beginning, there seemed to be constant miscommunication between staff. We specifically booked an outdoor reservation and were seated inside instead. While mistakes happen, it set the tone for the rest of the evening. The bigger issue involved the wine and corkage fee. We purchased a bottle directly from the market associated with the restaurant and were told by the employee there that the corkage fee would be waived if we bought their wine. When we sat down, our server Sara told us that was not true and that we would still have to pay the fee. I explained what we had been told, and when she asked if I wanted a manager involved, I said yes. Before the manager even arrived or clarified the situation, the server opened our bottle of wine. In the silence and confusion, I reasonably assumed the fee issue had been resolved. Then the manager came over and told us we would still be charged and implied that nobody at the market would have told us otherwise. The way it was handled made my husband and I feel like we were being accused of making the whole thing up, which was especially upsetting on Mother's Day. At that point, the bottle was already opened, so we were essentially stuck paying the fee regardless. Between being seated incorrectly, the poor communication between employees, and how dismissive the situation felt, the service completely overshadowed what should have been a special meal. The rest of the service we felt ignored and there was minimal effort to accommodate. Great food alone is not enough to justify returning when the hospitality experience feels this frustrating and unprofessional.

I am a white wine connoisseur because of my dietary restrictions with most ingredients in red wines, especially cherries and plum, that trigger my stomach pain and headaches. I have missed enjoying red wine because of this. I was hoping and praying that when my friends who are members of PEJU planned this wine tasting treat, that my stomach and head would be fine and to my surprise, my palate, tongue, stomach and heart were pleased with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Fifty/Fifty, and more, including reserve reds Todd served and educated us about! I have NEVER enjoyed red wines like these I tasted at PEJU. Since the time of our outstanding wine tasting experience, I have recommended and raved about Todd and PEJU winery to friends and family who appreciate and value high quality wines and winery experiences. It felt like a vacation getaway being in the tasting room building, admiring the breathtaking stained glass art, all of the art inside and the beautiful art and nature views outside. I appreciate the PEJU staff and management team who welcomed us and were kind to us all the way to the end of our wine tasting experience when we left. This is the kind of treatment that makes us want to return. Napa is a special place for friends, family, and me, and PEJU is now an indelible memory in my Napa adventures! Todd clearly enjoys his important professional position, is passionate about wine and the wine experience, and brings so much joy to customers! I can't recommend him and PEJU enough! Todd went above and beyond to give us a VIP experience and even gave me a bag full of wine corks for my art project after I told him about this and asked for some of their wine corks we saw lined up in their wine uncorking and pouring area. Thank you, Todd!

The grounds are gorgeous inside and out, and I really enjoyed the stained glass, large open windows, and the statues and the koi pond area outside. The service was extraordinary, and I had a great time learning a bit about the different wines PEJU offers from Joseph. I tried quite a few different wines, and really liked how there are a few unique offerings here that you can't find elsewhere - I ended up getting a bottle of their Province, the Farm, and their late harvest orange muscat. PEJU is also one of the few wineries with a permit to serve food. If I had known ahead of time, I would've planned to eat here! The rilettes were super tempting, but Joseph advised that if I was planning to eat a meal afterward to stick to the chips and dip - this ended up being quite a generous portion as well, and I really enjoyed the goat cheese truffle dip alongside the wine tasting :) Overall, PEJU is definitely a beautiful winery to visit with excellent service, and I'll definitely be back!
