Looking for a bar that has some seriously amazing booze on its shelf (whisky, scotch, gin, rum, or cocktails...)? Looking for a bar that has great snack-y deserts to choose from? Looking for a bar that is chill and has amazingly friendly staff? That is this bar. In cruising through the reviews of local food spots (with one other individual), we were looking for a spot to stop to grab a bite to eat and then cruise down to the beach after. We found MacGregor's bar and given the reviews decided to try it. Walking into what feels like a nice local bar, your greeted by a wall of whiskey that rivals most speakeasy style bars I've ever been to. What caught my eye first is that they had Weller's Green, Red, Blue and Black in various spots on the shelf. Our server, Molly, greeted us and sat us down and we ordered drinks and some food. While the individual with me was NOT a whiskey fan in the slightest there were a number of drinks available to someone that prefers another liquor to sip or fancy cocktails such as a Mango Margarita with a Chile salt rim. In short the drinks were fantastic and worth a visit anytime, even if you are not hungry. I'm a skeptic at heart and we were getting dangerously close to the too good to be true stage. The veggie. and lamb pot pie was highly recommended so I was talked into giving it a try. To say it was delicious might be an understatement of the decade. The crust was firmly cooked throughout the pie but still flakey and salty as you would want it. The Lamb was sweet and soft while the veggies still somehow managed to be steamed but have a pop to the exterior before turning into that wonderful stew combination. The only negative thing I could possibly say about this pot pie is that it ended entirely too early and I wanted another one as soon as I finished. Absolutely delightful. But all of this really doesn't hold a candle to the people that run this bar. The staff could not have been sweeter and they did such a great job catering to all of their guests without being overburdening. By the end of the meal you felt as if you had taken on new friends and when you finish your meal you have forgotten that you had just spent hours at a bar you meant to just cruise through at a stopping point. Absolutely would visit this location again, and look forward to my next trip to the coast for this venue specifically. read more

Love this teeny tiny whiskey bar! We were driving back from having dinner in Wheeler and made a last minute choice to grab a night cap. This was the only spot open late night for drinks in such a sleepy town. We shared a pour of Four Roses whiskey and an order of shortbread. The whiskey was really nice but holy hell the shortbread was so good. I don't know how something so simple could be so delicious, especially with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. Yum! Next time we will order some cocktails! They also had a cute patio area with a fireplace out front. read more

What a wonderful surprise in a small town. There's not much to see on the outside, and the inside only seats about 20 folks (and that may be pushing past the fire code). What this place lacks in size and luster it makes up for in content. I was amazed to find such a wonderful selection and an immensely knowledgeable staff. We visited on a gray April afternoon about an hour after it opened and were routed to a table outside because the place was nearly full. Gratefully we are offered blankets and their robust menu. Six Scotch regions well represented, along with at least 15 ryes and 20-ish bourbons. We started off sipping their craft cocktails. We opted for Mac's Old Fashioned (w/ Four Roses Small Batch), Smokey Bramble & Lavender (a beautifully fruited Mezcal concoction), and a Chip's Nightcap (a creamy vodka, coffee-esque sip). Beautifully presented, proportioned, and enjoyed. I followed up with a flight of Oregon Whiskeys that were presented and explained in great detail. What's even better is that a water dropper was included to really round out the tasting experience. This is one of the main reasons we're staying in Manzanita the next time we visit the Oregon Coast. read more

Wow! I enjoyed a drink and snacks at this whiskey bar. The service was good. All was fine until I called to see if I left my phone there. The employee who answered the phone informed me she was very busy, I should call back another time, and I was very rude. She did not look to see if my phone had been turned in but continued to fuss at me. I had to hang the phone up to stop the harassment I was getting from her. Too bad. Visiting from Portland and our Airbnb was close by, so we decided to stop in. We're not whiskey connoisseurs at ALL, so we really appreciated all the knowledge our server imparted on us. Loved this tiny little place. Had a fabulous cocktail recommended by the server: St Germain French 75. De-lighful! Also had the ham board and added a sharp cheddar: nice. The server was charming as well. They have something like 200 whiskeys on board. Too bad life is too short!! Warning this is not a cheap drink place, so if you're on a budget keep a walkin' down the road to the tavern closer to the beach. read more

The setting is charming. The waitstaff are always warm and friendly. The drinks are always very well made and the food is excellent. As a creature of habit I always get a Black Manhattan. Not everyone knows how to make one. This is a wonderful drink here. The cheese plates and related boards are all also incredible. Every time we go to manzanita, we make a point of spending one night here. With the various firepits, it can also be a charming and romantic setting if you like. Just go and have fun. *Attempted* to come here on a Saturday night around 7pm. It was full when we walked in, and it's a small space so there really wasn't a waiting area. There were, however, two tables open outside by the fire. Upon entering, a server (older woman with short blonde hair) brushed past me and said "Capacity!" and kept walking. I looked at my partner and shrugged, and I went up to the bar to see if we could wait for a table. I asked that same server "Sorry, you said you're at capacity..." to which she then interrupted to say "Yes. We're full and everyone *just* got here." I replied, "Everyone in this whole entire bar just got here?" "Yep." I'm not sure I've ever had a bar flat out refuse me the option to wait for a table, or even take the tables outside. It was truly bonkers, so we opted to visit a bar up the street where the staff was much more welcoming. I understand that you don't have to provide the best service when you sort of have a monopoly on the cocktail scene in a small town, but this truly seemed like a spot that my mother would say was acting "too big for their britches". A little bit of Portland on the coast, except for the lack of snotty, pretentious jerks "on duty". We rolled in on a rainy night so the interior was pretty packed but my good lady and I were the only people on the patio. This meant our server had to dash through a bit of drizzle to get from the door to the covered part of the patio and this was no problem. I got my favorite cocktail, a glass of whisky with not a damn thing added to it. Unfortunately the whisky was terrible. Not MWB's fault, of course. I can't remember what MGL got, but she enjoyed it. We also got some desserts, I got the spotted dick (had to) and wow English people eat weird stuff. MGL got the chocolate cake. It was pretty good. It's a small spot, which is probably okay most of the time. I could see a big crowd of tourists packing the place out. Also there's not much in the way of food which is disappointing because there's so few options in Manzanita. That's probably also a function of the size of the business. But it's a great spot in a town that doesn't have much to offer beyond a view of the ocean. read more

We were in Cannon Beach during a particularly busy weekend and all the usual places had long waits for dinner. So we tried MacGregor's and there was no wait to be seated. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was good, and the food was good. The menu is generally pub food, but done well. The whiskey menu was amazing. We did a flight of scotches and learned some new things- having sampled scotch throughout our trip to Scotland a few years ago. I do believe that there is a restaurant side and a bar side. The bar does not allow children (obviously), but I think the restaurant does. A little more clear signage would be good to clarify that as I saw a family walk away after seeing the sign. read more

Stopped by this Whiskey Bar while in Manzanita for the 4th of July. MacGregor's is a smaller cozy space. Luckily we found a table and ordered the cheese plate and both of us got an Old Fashioned. The service was quick, and the drinks and cheese plate were good. The menu had a wide range of Whiskeys at reasonable prices. The best part, was that the owner approached us and introduced himself! He asked us where we were from and when we said Seattle he struck up a conversation about seattle. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back next time I'm in town! read more

First time here this evening. At first, we were put off by the reception. Walked in to the bar and just wanting to look at the options, we were told we could look at the menus outside. We waited awhile for our server, but when we saw the selection, it was worth the wait. So many amazing whiskeys! Had the Belvenie 14 year that was aged in rum barrels. Amazing! They put the bottle of what you ordered out with your order (thank you). After a few minutes, I noticed there was a bug inside the bottle! Being in the business, I wasn't 100% put off, but jeez, not a comp or offered another pour from a new bottle (it was almost gone, as seen in the picture). Going back to MacGregor's is like being in a bad relationship. You are drawn back by the memory of how good it was in the beginning, before it turned narcissistic. The sophisticated allure is intoxicating--a scotch bar in Manzanita with boards and bowls--suggesting a respite from the world. Yet this can be no romantic sanctuary because the operation's true capacity in any season and on any day is three tables. As with every bad relationship, there are the excuses, the explanations but the problem is structural, fundamental. So, even though you know that you should not return, you do, still optimistic, ever hopeful that this time will be different, like it was, when the relationship was new... The MacGregor's location in Cannon Beach had caught our eye the other night, but we weren't able to experience it until we stopped into the Manzanita location. The inside is fairly small (6 tables) so on a rainy, cold night like tonight where outside seating isn't an option, there was a bit of a wait. However, it was definitely worth it. Really loved the "Bartenders Choice" cocktail where I was able to name my preferred spirit and the skilled bartender took care of the rest. The menu is on the smaller plate side of things, but it was perfect for what we were in the mood for: a soft pretzel, a cheese plate, Mac and cheese, and some soup. read more

I've been to quite a few whiskey bars with big selections of rare whiskies and this one by far has the worst pricing I've ever seen. I understand charging a premium for stuff that is really hard to acquire but this goes too far. If money is no object to you though the selection is pretty good and spot is nice. read more

Our server Hannah was extremely knowledgeable regarding whiskey. My husband the first night tried the Around The World flight and was treated to some whiskey he had never tried before. I got the Marionberry Lemon Drop Martini, which was fantastic. My husband was so impressed, we went back the next night and he let Hannah pick a flight for him.
