I really like the Rusty Pelican. This casual restaurant is located in Old Mandeville, but is a new building. This is a plus compared to some of the other restaurants in old buildings which aren't as comfortable. Rusty Pelican has a fairly broad menu, but the burgers and sandwiches are the stars. My favorite burger is the hotsy totsy burger with fried jalapenos and pepperjack. The burgers are cooked to order and are always juicy and flavorful. On my most recent trip I had the jive bird (buffalo chicken). It was a whole fried chicken breast topped with their buffalo sauce on a bun. It was perfectly cooked and mildly spicy. The chicken breast was so large it had to be folded over to fit the bun. This was a very good sandwich. Service is always very good. You order at the counter, get a number and your food is brought out to you. The other thing I really like is their beer selection. They have standard brews like pabst and high life, but they also have Shiner and some more fancy brews. If you're in Mandeville and want a casual, good meal, give Rusty Pelican a try. read more

I am so excited that we found this gem. The Handy Mandy is one of the best things I've eaten in a long while, and even though I like to mix things up when I return to a restaurant, I won't be able to pass up an opportunity to enjoy another Handy Mandy. This may be my worst post-covid19 take out experience I have had. Let's start with the food, I was told 45min, showed up in 40 to ICE COLD FOOD that had obviously been ready for quite some time. The crispy bacon was undercooked and flabby. The fries inedibly cold to the point of being hard and inedible, and yes know fries are never as good to go. This however was extreme. Now to the service, NO easy pick up or curbside. One was expected to enter the PACKED (I mean wall to wall people, even at the patio tables) past a line of people placing orders, 8 out of 12 with no masks, to a packed corner to pick up the order right next to people wearing no masks. If you care about good food or your health avoid this place at ALL costs. Ok, other than the bacon the burger was good, increasing to two stars. read more

The best burgers in Mandeville hands down! Everything else on the menu is great as well; crab cakes, fish tacos, salads, etc. All so delicious and most importantly, the food is always consistent. I like my burgers cooked medium rare, my husband likes his medium well, and they nail the temperatures perfectly every single time. Decided to try this local spot, and was not disappointed! I had the Pelican burger with fries, and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. My daughter had the roast beef po boy, and we shared the fried jalapenos, which were very spicy and delicious. Sat at the bar and chatted with Tony, the owner. Update: I brought two friends this time. We ordered oyster po-boys and a soft shell crab po-boy. Everything was excellent, and everything was devoured. I appreciated being able to upgrade my side of french fries to cheese fries and they were top-notch. You order at the counter, get your own drink and they bring the food to your table. Its basically a basket and burger joint. She got the pickle burger, its actually fried pickles (alot of them) on a hamburger. I got the chicken parm sandwich. I did try her burger. I say both sandwiches lacked any flavor. My parm sandwich, I think was trying to be poboy. The tomato sauce tasted straight out of a can. The chicken may have been better, by itself. Fries were your basic bagged frozen fries.
