We were traveling through and yelped a brunch location. The Rusty Pelican was amazing. The service was over the top and the eggs Benedict was to die for. The wife raved over how moist her scrambled eggs were. Also, we started the meal with beignet's and hot coffee. They were as good as any that I've had in NOLA. I couldn't recommend this place more!! read more

This place has been a long standing familiar restaurant on the coast. They used to have some of the best po-boys around. The couple few times I have been the food has taken a steep decline in freshness and value. I always order the Swiss and crab po-boy, last time I had it it was greasy, barely any cheese or crab, and extremely small. The gumbo was store bought and the pie I had was still frozen (after I had been told that it was fresh, homemade). It pains me to say this but after all these years I will not return again. read more

I had a poor experience with the service at the Rusty Pelican this morning. My server was friendly but inattentive. Two to three minutes after delivering my coffee she checked to see if I needed a refill. After that - nothing. I didn't see her until I had finished my meal. At one point I looked toward the front of the restaurant and could not see my server and the other server was buried in her phone. At least the second server did come around periodically to check on her customers. I did not want to leave a tip, but I know the staff shares in those tips and my breakfast was fine. My wife and I love the Rusty Pelican, but I am hesitant to return given today's service. read more

Excellent breakfast. Bacon omelet with onion. Add grits and white toast and never ending coffee cup for a great day starter. Very nice servers. She was busy with several tables but kept the coffee coming till the six meals came out hot to the table. Definitely a place for breakfast here in Long Beach. read more

My number one place for breakfast on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Plus, where can you get breakfast, American food and Vietnamese specialties in one place on the coast. Great job RP. read more

My wife and I come here for breakfast quite often. We have never been disappointed. I get eggs over easy and the smoked pork chop. She gets the deluxe w/eggs over easy and ham. The people are always friendly and personable. If you're in that group of people who seek out great breakfast spots, this is one. If you're just unsure where to go, skip the Waffle House. Skip Cracker Barrel. Take a couple mile ride down Beatline rd off exit 28 on I10 and relax. This place is great!! read more

Get the roast beef....best I have had the pleasure of tasting in the 5 years since I have moved to southern Mississippi!!!

Not my favorite place . Cheep food, all frozen and not fresh . Good for a cheep get together. Although I would like to have more quality food . read more

This place is a great breakfast pub to hit up. The location is nice within the woods and prices are very well accommodating. Service is outstanding and they support our military personnel. read more

Went for breakfast. Very good service and food. Atmosphere was pleasant and very clean.

Go if you like frozen food. We got there right as they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch. The breakfasts that were on the tables around us looked amazing so we were hoping the lunches would be good. My mom ordered a hamburger po boy and I ordered the shrimp po boy. I wasn't sure what to expect since the menu said it was tempura shrimp. We each got onion rings and my four year old got sweet potato fries. The hamburger were super thin. The onion rings and shrimp were greasy. The shrimp were frozen and had that nasty iodine smell. Nothing was fresh. The place is on the gulf coast and it sells imported frozen shrimp. And it's confused. The decor is French bistro, the name is gulf coast, and the menu has Vietnamese, gulf coast, and steak. read more

Great breakfast! Loved the beignets! Service was excellent. Menu had a great variety.

Four of us ate breakfast on a Wednesday morning and all had different stuff. The bacon, sausage, grits, pancakes, biscuits, and toast were all delicious. And the beignets were amazing! Very large and a ton of powdered sugar. Only issue was I ordered my eggs over easy. One came popped and hard and the other was over medium. I asked the waitress to replace the hard one and she promptly brought two fresh over easy eggs. The service was excellent. Highly recommend! read more

I love the Philly sandwich! I have been going to Rusty Pelican for years for this sandwich. Ask for an extra au jus because this is a dippin' sandwich. The onions and peppers are perfect on this sandwich. The staff are very nice; give it a try. read more

I just moved to Longbeach and stopped here after a long day of moving/unpacking. Had a fried shrimp po boy and some onion rings. Absolutely awesome!! The shrimp was flavorful and had a great crunch. The onion rings were light and super crunch. Soo yummy! That along side a bottle of ice cold root beer and a slice of Mississippi mud pie for desert, can't go wrong. Service was quick and staff was super friendly and overall was easy on my wallet! Will definitely be returning! read more

So I just got in from a 10 hour drive here from Austin. Typically when i get in I was gumbo or a po-boy or something of that nature. I wanted Cajun Crawfish Hut but didn't realize they still are cash only. I tell my stepmom that this place had all you can eat catfish. We go and i realize that it's $14 for that meal. No thanks. I opt for gumbo and a shrimp poboy with fries. It was 30 minutes prior to closing but we're the only people in here. I get my gumbo and there's no evidence of a roux and it seems to be tomato based. The only seafood i observed was some cocktail shrimp. You know, the ones that come in a can that mom used to use to make shrimp dip. it was OK not horrible but not good. I get my poboy and fries. I take a bite of the fries and there was no seasoning at all. Just fried potatoes. WTH? Poboy arrives and i was surprised/shocked to see the shrimp look like tempura shrimp ala sweet and sour at a buffet. I had an open mind and tried it and low and behold. It sucked. The batter along with mayo and ketchup turned to mush. I hope to god nobody i care about eats here unless they like mediocre food or feel like having a stroke because of the disservice this place is doing with our native cuisine. Oh yeah, the service pretty much sucked too. One last thing....carpet on the walls? Really? read more

Was great breakfast place and everything was wonderful the service, food can't wait to go back and try lunch.

They have wonderful crab Rangoon. That's where it stopped. seafood platters are expensive for what you get. Shrimp were small. Oysters were inedible. I can make better French fries from frozen store bought ones. The cocktail sauce was gelatinous and tasteless. read more

The one star is based on our last visit there. We've been to the Rusty Pelican at least six times, mostly for breakfast, and all had been fine until Saturday. We came early for lunch and there was only one table with customers. We told our first server we wanted water to drink. The drinks came ten minutes later by a different server Remember, the place was still fairly empty. I had to wait ten maybe fifteen minutes for a cup of soup, which is ridiculous. Then our orders came. It was the worse food I've had in my four years on the coast. My wife had grilled mahi mahi with grilled shrimp over angel hair pasta covered with spinach cream sauce. My wife said the mahi mahi was over-cooked . I tried it. It was over-cooked to the point where a glass of water was needed to wash it down. The angel hair pasta was over-cooked and there was no creamed spinach sauce. I've had Vietnamese at a place down the road and wanted to try it here. I ordered the Bon Tom Nem N'rong(sp) and was disappointed. Not as bad as my wife's, but the shrimp was over-cooked to be rubbery. It was not a good representation of the Vietnamese cuisine. When asked how everything was I politely told her. A little while later, under the pretext of talking to the table in front of us, the 'cook' or the owner came out. She took a look in my direction. It would have been nice had she asked us and I would have told her. After waiting ten minutes for a check we went to the counter and the check was filled out there. If the purpose was to lose two customers who used to look forward to eating at the R.Pelican they very well may have succeeded. To be fair, the breakfasts are good, and the beignets are the best I've had on the coast. But, if you want very good Vietnamese and Thai food travel a bit further south down the road. read more

My husband and I had takeout from the Rusty Pelican. We ordered a large shrimp poboy and a shrimp basket. The shrimp poboy was the worst shrimp poboy I ever had. It was about 8 inches on stale bread, over battered frozen shrimp, a sprinkling of lettuce and two slivers of a tomato half. My husbands shrimp basket was even more pathetic. Really doesn't deserve any star at all. read more

Starting with a positive note, the waitress was very friendly and the timing was excellent with no wait on our meal. However, the menu ranged from Asian fusion, Cajun, Seafood to American Hamburger joint. Though the food choice was properly cooked, I would not go back! The food was not what was expected as far as taste. I wish I could have given a better review. read more
