It wasn't fresh from the water. We live on the coast - $32 for one filet of trout sh/could be from the water fresh. It's $9 a filet. The crab claws were ok, but of course from frozen... It was all ok and a lovely setting. I wouldn't return only because it's the same menu as every other gulf coast restaurant - no need to travel into GP from the bay.

I stopped by the Rusty Pelican and tried the steak and cheese sub with au jus on the side--honestly, it was pretty good. The sandwich was flavorful and hit the spot. I also had the gumbo, which was solid too--nice seasoning and a good portion. The place was pretty busy when I went, so it was a little tough to get the server's attention at times, but they were clearly working hard and juggling a lot. Overall, it's a decent spot with good food. I'd come back for sure. read more

This trip I tried their Chicken and Waffles with Hot Honey. This was an excellent dish with just the right amount of salty and sweet, coupled with very well fried chicken tenderloins that were juicy and crispy crunchy! My only request would be to put the fruit in a bowl. The scattering of fruit looked like an afterthought as they rushed a plate out of the kitchen. A good expo should have caught that and corrected it before sending it out. (In all honesty I am a former RSJ employee, and understand his exacting attention to details.) This is definitely a great addition to Gulfport and we will be back, and you should go, too!
