I pass through the area on a regular basis, and I would never have found this place on my own without an online search. I am glad I did, however. I dropped in at lunchtime but I was still able to get breakfast. Love it! I had an omelette that was pretty good. The Vietnamese coffee was lots of fun and very tasty. The service was good. My food came out fast. They were bustling but weren't full. Definitely lots of locals coming and going. The servers and staff knew a lot of people personally. I will definitely go back again. One neat thing - they have a cool koi pond outside by the parking lot. Nicely done. The fish are beautiful. Kind of an odd thing to see in the wilds of Mississippi but it was really cool. I tried this with my father and grandmother. The owner was the one who served us and she was such a sweetheart. The Ruben sandwich tasted really good and what you'd expect. Saturday morning the week before Christmas...they were BUSY! But, as always, we received great service. I ordered blueberry pancakes with the deluxe breakfast. They offer to put the berries in or on the pancakes. They also have sugar free syrup if that's a thing for you as it is for me. Our food is always fresh and hot and that includes the decaf, which again, is not always available everywhere you go. This is our go-to place for breakfast when I visit Gulfport. Even though it's in Long Beach, it's just a short drive away and worth it. Their beachy decor and fish outside are fun and inviting and for us, we value their appreciation for military veterans. read more

This place has that old diner feeling and a simple but savory breakfast menu. I got the chef's breakfast with sausage patties and omg it was so good. Huge portions, had to take half of it home. We ate breakfast but they have an extensive lunch menu that includes some Vietnamese dishes so I am sure we will be back to try those soon! read more

I was here last year, and the fish special was great, but this year I unfortunately ordered the catfish sandwich. $8.95 and NOT worth it for a couple small chunks of fish on a hamburger bun. So disappointing. $2.95 was fine for some sweet potato fries that were good. And of course, iced tea is NOT worth $3.50. Ridiculous. Almost everyone charges too much for non-alcoholic drinks, so they joined the club. $16.48 before tip (the service was good) and I left hungry. I ordered the omelette with rye toast the wife ordered the breakfast sandwich on rye toast she received white bread instead. My omelette had little flavor and the onions tasted sour! The service was lacking we've had this same waitress before and she's not very attentive to her customers never checking back. Our first time there was on Saturday. I had the Special which was the sweet & spicy beef tips with rice & my wife had the breakfast with eggs. hashbrowns, bacon & pancakes. While the beef tips were great, the amount of meat served was pretty sparce for the price of $17. The wife's breakfast was $10 so that was reasonable and the pancakes were really good. We'll be back to try the other dishes they offer. They portions either need to be increased or dishes priced less as some are a bit pricey for the amount served. read more

Good breakfast place!! There was a nice water feature in the parking lot with a tortoise in it and lots of koi, made for a nice calming place before either heading in or getting back in your car. Pancakes were good and fluffy. Eggs cooked as ordered and special requests honored (extra crispy bacon requested by 2 of our party). Sausage gravy was good, lightly seasoned but I like mine with lots of pepper - easily remedied, I just added some more pepper!! We'd had enough of hotel free breakfasts and let Yelp lead the way. It pointed to this little spot a few miles away nestled in the trees away from the coast by a mile or two or three. It is easy to find on the road with a large friendly sign. Being the Vet I am, I appreciated the US Flag and the POW/MIA flag out front. The parking lot is huge and there is a rock/water garden feature on the border of the lot with some faux water fowl. The little kid in me want to go play in it. On the way in, there is a historical reference to the sign that was all that was left of the previous building that was destroyed by Katrina. My photo didn't do it justice, so you'll have to see it for your self. Inside, it has a friendly feel of fish, sea creatures and nets hanging on the walls. The island partitions between the booths has floral and plants decorating the top. The dining room was light from all of the windows, airy and friendly feeling. Kind of a sea themed grandma's house feel. I love it! The menu was impressive and the breakfast had the essentials. I ordered the Deluxe with 2 over easy eggs, hash browns with onions, bacon and 2 pancakes plus an iced tea. Our server, Sara, was very professional. She went out of her way to look after her customers I observed (to include us). The order was out in no time. The tea wasn't watered down. The eggs were correctly prepared and tasted fresh. The hash browns were the best ever as the onion was just enough to flavor but not to over power. (Thank you Sara for suggesting that!) The bacon was good and crispy. The pancakes had a golden brown crispness but were fluffy on the inside. The cost was extremely reasonable for great service and super tasting food! if in the area, give this place a try! Hard to find a real breakfast place open during COVID, but this place filled the bill. Came in on a Friday morning at 6:45. Due to COVID, they've pushed back their opening time from 6:00 to 6:30. Place was reasonably crowded for the hour and I was a bit concerned I could get in and out timely. There was only one waitress, but she did a great job hustling. The Rusty Pelican doesn't look like much from the outside. And that goes for the inside, as well. I mean, there's carpet on the WALLS for goodness' sake! But this little diner exceeded my expectations in so many ways! First of all, they're doing great with social distancing. The tables are spread out. The staff is on point with cleaning and with their masks. I felt totally safe in here during this pandemic. The menu has such a wide variety of options. It was like a southern country diner meets Vietnam. I had a hard time deciding but I LOVE pho and it's so hard to find in Mississippi so I had to go for it. So I already came here with high expectations. The hotel I'm staying at the young lady said this place was her all time favorite. She said it's a small time hole in the wall diner. She wasn't joking. She said it's next to a dollar general and nothing else around it. But she said the breakfast is amazing. So naturally I had to give it a try. The reviews say the pancakes are amazing and let me tell you they aren't playing. They have that amazing ring with a crunch and then soft fluffy pillow centers. Like no joke watch out pancake house you have competition. Naturally I'm reviewing So I ordered much more than I should have. The biscuits and gravy amazing. It's a sausage gravy and you could just tell this is grandma's recipe. The eggs well they are eggs. I asked for over medium and they where a little past medium but no complaint. Browns are browns can't really do them wrong and the toast is toast. But seriously the gravy and pancakes I want more. I only wish I had room for the beignets. Never again. OK. Never say never, but this place has pretty much ruined my chances of returning. This restaurant suffers from a serious service and consistency issue.My main issue is with the service, so that's what I'll focus on. Rusty Pelican was one of my go-to spots for breakfast in Long Beach. I have been at all different times and all different days. The food was pretty consistent and good for most of those visits. On the last few visits it had a serious falling off as if they changed cooks or the cook stopped giving it his all. Omelets went from darn near perfect to bland and boring. Appetizers started coming out after entrees. Despite that, I would still have given them another shot. But one server ruined it for me. Throughout my many visits I ended up with a couple of different servers, but usually the same one. The servers that were awesome were the younger guy and girl who may have been related to the owners. The server I normally have treated me with such disdain you would think I had punched her mom in the face or something. I could never figure out why she hated me, but hate me she did. I'm talking sighing when taking my order, staring at me like I'm the devil, mood shifting from happy and friendly to other tables to disgust when she came to mine. It was really odd, but after the last time I had enough. If you're going to hate me, I'll go else where. read more

12/28/2018 Who knew that you can have delicious pho noodle soup for breakfast at a diner-type restaurant in Biloxi? My heart jolted when I saw pho on the menu and everyone else was happy to get their omelets, grits, and hash browns, all very American breakfast with coffee. It has been a while since a lot of diners carry Sriracha sauce on the table but to have the pho noodle soup to go with it was precious!!!! The pho was not lacking anything and in fact, It was excellent just like what you would get at any good Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant was described to us as a hole-in-the-wall place thus the name Rusty Pelican. However, there was a nice shrine of Pelican statues outside and pictures of Pelicans inside of the restaurant.
