I've lived in Denison for 2 years now. While the local fare is generally poor, the exception is Rustico. It's my favorite place in town.

Great atmosphere and great service! Saturdays sometimes offers dancing and live music! Fresh food taste more authentic mexican!

This place is excellent! My hubby ordered the Seafood Enchiladas with Cilantro Rice and some type of Corn. I had a combo plate with a Chicken Enchilada, a Tamale, Two Beef Tacos, Beans and rice. Mexican (or, more specifically, Tex Mex) options in the Sherman/Denison area are plentiful. The question that remains is...where is a GOOD Mexican/Tex-Mex in the Sherman/Denison area? Well, Rustico might be the closest opportunity. High quality food, but a tad more authentic Mexican than I typically like. I've been 3 times now since moving here 5 months ago, which is more often than I've been to most restaurants here, so that is saying something. However, I give it 3 stars because the food is not terribly consistent for what I eat, but I've brought other family members and they absolutely love it. So, food-wise, I'd expect most patrons to be satisfied. Again, the quality is high. The service is pretty good too. 2 out of the 3 times I've been, the service has been excellent. However, 1 time the person barely spoke English, which normally doesn't really bug me, but the order was screwed up on so many levels that the whole experience was just irritating. The bottom line, after trying nearly every option in town for this type of food, Rustico is pretty much the best. The main problem is, 45 minutes down the road in the Dallas suburbs, the options for really strong food like this are plentiful. I'm baffled that it's this difficult to find one at that level in the Sherman/Denison area. read more

Felipe and his team catered our son's wedding reception on 10/26/24. Felipe did a great job helping to plan the menu and working with the venue (The 1906 in Whitesboro). His team set up quickly, served the food efficiently and did a great job overall. Plus, the fajitas and all the trimmings were absolutely delicious! read more

This will be short. Arrived last evening, was seated fairly quickly, no one was ahead of us. Waited about 10 minutes at our table, and the waitress (?) came and gave us the menus. This looks like a nice establishment, very spacious, excellent lighting, great reviews. But a train wreck. Tables needed to be bussed, nothing was cleared off and available. We wanted a booth, and got the ONLY clean one available. As we waited no tables were ever cleared off. (Maybe they do this at closing?) All the signs were there......IMO Looked over the menu, and looked over the menu, and my usual laugh, and looked over the menu. I even started thinking about dessert. A waitress stopped by after about 15 minutes or longer, she asked who our waitress was and if we had been helped. We replied, no. She stated she would send someone over to assist us. It's clearly understaffed. Glanced at our watch and said, we will give them 5 minutes then leave. 5 minutes later, we left. :( read more

Original and creative menu. Excellent drinks to compliment the cuisine. I only wish they'd stay open a little later. I've taken my client there a couple of times and by the time we had dinner and a few drinks the lights were being taken down to clue us on the closing at around 9pm? Little hidden gem. Authentic food! The presentation of their dishes and how they cook it was really different than other restaurants. If you order fajitas or the chimichangas make sure you pick steak if you had to choose between chicken and steak. The steak was so well seasoned!! I loved it! Service was great! My husband and I were camping out at Lake Texoma when we decided not to cook and venture out into Denison. After looking on yelp came across Rustico. Hmm ok sounds interesting. We were promptly seated and our lovely waitress Marlin came over greeted us with a warm smile and very friendly attitude. She took our drink order I had a tamarindo margarita my husband had a coke. He left for the bathroom and the drinks came to the table. I took one sip of my drink!! Wow this was a very delicious margarita. My husband came back and said wow you should see and smell how nice the bathrooms are. I explained to him I think this food is going to be good because this is the best margarita I have ever had and I love me my margaritas. Our food came out I had the Adobo Shrimp over Crab Enchiladas and my husband had the seafood enchiladas. We both looked at each other like what on earth have we found!!! Pure perfection. I said to my husband that is not a cook preparing this food that is a chef. As we finished our meal Merlin came by asked how did we enjoy the food. I told her please let the chef know that the food was excellent. She said oh look he's right there called him over and what do you know. My palate was right award winning Chef Felipe Gaytan came over and greated us asked how was our meal explained to him that everything was outstanding. Very friendly and personable. Asked us to come back and even though we live an hour and a half away my husband and I have already discussed about making the trip back. That is how good the service, food and ambiance was. The BEST Mexican food in Denison. Hands down. A little pricey, but is actually fresh Mexican food. Worth the price. Great ambiance as well. Don't be confused ... walk over the bridge to get to the hostess desk. The owner has even sat down with us, and you could feel the passion he has for food and his restaurant. Rustico is incredible (..even for takeout.. #coronavirus). It is my family's favorite place to eat in Denison & I seriously haven't ever heard anyone say anything even somewhat negative about it. Side note: the owner & chef, Felipe, is a great guy, so it's fun to support his restaurant as much as I can. I get the tamales every time I go. They're a little spicy so if you aren't really a fan of spice they might not be your best bet. I've also heard people rave about the street tacos. I'm already pretty sure I pay for Rustico's utilities with how much we eat there, so it's safe to say I'll be back. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner on route to Durant, and we're so glad we did! We chose it based on reviews on Yelp, and agree with all the other five star reviews. The restaurant is beautiful, and the food was extraordinary! We began with margaritas, and my sangria swirl (Mambo Taxi) was delicious! I think the sangria was homemade because it was so good! I had seen a picture of a lunch menu that had fish tacos on it, but they weren't on the menu we were given. (Although the selections were plentiful and everything looked amazing) I asked our waitress, Flor, (who was very sweet and very attentive) about them, and she checked and found out I could still order them. They were seriously the best fish tacos I've ever had. My husband ordered bacon wrapped jalapeños and a chile relleno and said they were both "freaking awesome". The owner even stopped by to make sure everything was good. We'll definitely be returning next time we're in the area. read more

This is legitimately some of the best Mexican I've had. I am from Dallas, and this place blows away the "high end" Mexican places I know of. I ordered the "Bronzed Chicken Cilantro". It's so wonderful. Cooked perfectly: tender and juicy while having the perfect crispy exterior. The sauce is wonderful too. There was a curious pyramid of greenish rice. It concerned me for a moment, but it's delicious (hint, mix it with the fruit salsa on the plate). I look forward to my trips here to see patients and family, because this will be a "go to" for me. My husband and I chose Rustico for our date night last night. It takes a lot to compel me to write a review, but the service we received along with the amazing meal we shared did not go unnoticed. Our server, Flor, was absolutely amazing. It was the best service we have received in recent memory. Our food came out so quick it was almost unbelievable, and it tasted like it had been prepped and cooked for hours. It was so good! Wow, I can't speak highly enough about this restaurant! We came around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated right away. Chips and salsa were great, but the food was AMAZING! Way better than what I expected from a small town in Texas. I got the enchiladas poblanos and my boyfriend got the fajitas (chicken and shrimp) and they were both so good.
