First time at this restaurant, glad we tried it. Nice, intimate, good wine list, food was delicious, staff was very attentive. I think the menu could've offered more variety but other than than that, everything was very nice. There was even a live piano player!! Would definitely go again. read more

Stayed in Chester for a night on a Sunday. After an afternoon at the Castle, we were starved. Yelp pointed us to this place. Apparently the fireworks from the previous night got moved to Sunday, so the town was hopping...the restaurant, not so much. There was one other table there. Our server was a little too attentive, I'd say. Nice, but almost clingy. We got the cheese pizza and a white pizza. The cheese pizza was great! The white pizza, not so much. It was very bland. It needed a lot more garlic and basil. I ordered what I was told was an IPA, but it definitely was not. Almost like a Coors Light. I was exhausted, so whatever, I drank it. My daughter got the mac and cheese, which I thought was the best thing we ordered actually. It was great! The atmosphere is cute. Very rustic (thus the name), like an old tavern. Be a cool place on a snowy winter night. read more

Went to Wheelhouse for the first time tonight with another couple. We had an enjoyable evening and we all enjoyed our food. We especially enjoyed the French Onion Soup, definitely homemade and it was delicious. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Fantastic meal experience. Great atmosphere and wonderful service. Live music was a big plus!!!

I've been to the Rustic Wheelhouse a few times over the last year. The food is exceptionally good, the selection of craft beer is remarkable, and the service is as personal as it gets. Tony (chef/owner) is a gifted artist in the kitchen and I can personally vouch for both the steaks and the (insanely good) homemade ravioli. Alas, nobody is perfect, and it seems that the chicken dishes are not their strong suit. As far as I can tell, however, everything else is off-the-charts awesome. Highly recommended! read more

I recently had my husband's 30th birthday party in their downstairs party room and we loved it. Tony, Basima, and Cathy were all great. They were friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The drinks are good and the food was delicious. Not to mention the sangria was amazing! Highly recommend and will be returning soon. read more

After a day at the castle in Chester my family and I used yelp to find our way to this restaurant. It has a very warming rustic feel the waiter was very helpful and attentive. The stuff mushrooms were a little sweet to my surprise but I liked them. I had the French onion soup which was absolutely delicious my daughters had the spaghetti garlic butter pasta. My wife had the cheese raviolis with there homemade tomato sauce it was very delicious. And I have to say that the chocolate mousse was hands-down the best I have ever had in my life. My sister-in-law insisted that it was so good we had to try. The whole table agreed it was awesome. We enjoyed the place so much we will definitely be coming back read more

The food is amazing and the staff/owners are always nice. You have to try the calamari and their french onion soup. They are delicious!

My husband and I came here for dinner shortly before closing on a Sunday night. We expected to be rushed out since we were the only ones in the restaurant but that couldn't have been further from case. The server was patient and friendly! My husband got the margarita pizza and it was sooo good! Light and airy crust and fresh toppings. I ordered the chicken marsala that was on special. The chicken was tender and juicy and the marsala sauce was so yummy! The restaurant itself was very rustic but cozy. We were just stopping in to Chester on business but would return if we are ever in the area again! read more

Amazing food here. The specials are to die for, And the brunch never disappoints. The owners are so sweet and care so much about their business and the customers. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Can't wait to go back with my family. read more

My wife and I walked the Heritage Trail with friends. We were looking for a place for lunch we could walk to. This restaurant was a short walk from the trail. It was a great find!! The food was delicious and the service was excellent!! We will definitely return!! read more

Went to the Rustic Wheelhouse in Chester NY on Saturday. It was pretty crowded for this place (I guess because Lobster Pier closed down). My husband had fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, which he enjoyed, I had tasteless shrimp scampi. The waiter never checked on us once and if it wasn't for the bus boy I would still be waiting for the check. People were waiting twenty minutes then getting up and leaving. They seemed overwhelmed. The chef was upstairs moving tables around, dropping glasses instead of cooking the meals and adding seasoning to a very bland meal. read more

Was there today for a late lunch. Food was delicious and the homemade dessert is really homemade. We talked to Basima ( unsure of the spelling) who made the homemade desserts and the Italian cheesecake was phenomenal. Can't wait to go back, just have to save room for another great dessert. Two of us had appetizers and big salads with desserts and coffee $72 including tip. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant as we were traveling and it is a diamond in the rough. The street it is ok has many vacant storefronts but don't let that fool you. When you walk into the restaurant the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I would describe it as rustic elegance. Classy enough for a special meal and yet casual enough to pop in with friends. We stopped in for lunch. My husband had the French onion soup and he said it was delicious. I had the margarita pizza and I want to go back. It came as an individual pie and looked like it came from a high end kitchen in NYC. Presentation was great. Fresh ingredients used. The waiter was friendly and very professional. Another couple had walked in after us and they must be loyal patrons because the waiter saw them crossing the street and had their favorite table prepped for them when they walked in. That added to the great vibe there. I wish I lived close enough to be a loyal customer. read more

Rustic Wheelhouse - Italian Near Me - Chester, New York

It was a major let down. Got there at 5:20 pm, and it took over 1 hour to get our meals. Many people were upset with the slow service and shortage of help. We constantly were trying to get water refills and our waitress was overwhelmed with the lack of help she had. Drinks took forever from the bar as well. Lasagna special was not heated through even in that amount of time we waited for the meals. (Not sure what happened with second attempt to getting the entree heated up, but it had extra sauce and less noodles-ended up not eating it or being charged for it.) Got a complimentary dessert which also took forever to get as our check did too. Sadly, we thought this fairly new restaurant was going to be "it", but with this service and quality of food tonight, people will be going else where. On a brighter note, they had a great four-piece band performing at 7 pm! read more

Incredible delicious food. Love love love the place and come there every time I visit the area. PLEASE order the Italian Sandwich - BEST EVER in the world. read more

Saw this on here and saw that the reviews werent bad so I figured I'd try it out. The fried calamari was rubbery but the breading was very good. I also had the tortellini with vodka sauce and my pasta was very soft. The cappuccino was terrible and very small for $5 and the Irish coffee was $10 which is ridiculously price but the cheesecake was prob one of the best I've ever had... When paying the owner took the money but then asked if I left a tip and also didn't give me my change back (it must of been like 70¢ but still it's rude not to ask). Although the cheesecake was good that's so tacky to ask if you left a tip. I understand you want to make sure your employees get tipped but there's just certain things you don't do. Instead of charging so much for okay quality food maybe pay your employees more. read more

I called on Tuesday to reserve a table for 2 for Saturday night at 8pm. Told the hostess we were coming to see the band. Saturday morning, I called again to change my reservation for 4 people and I was told I didn't even have a reservation to begin with but they made me the new reservation for 8:30. Upon arrival, we were seated at a table where one of us was sitting directly under one of the speakers of the live band. Even the band didn't want us sitting there and they were disappointed that the table hadn't been moved. After much discussion with the hostess we were moved to a table BEHIND A WALL. Couldn't see the band at all. Once again, talked to our waitress and the hostess and our wonderful waitress happily moved us to a table where we could see the band. Then the woman who was cleaning our new table, I'm assuming she is a busser, was so nasty to us and said "no more moving, I have to keep resetting these tables." For the rest of the night, we received dirty looks from this woman. We order 4 drinks to start. Shortly AFTER that, we ordered food. The food came out before the drinks did. And when the drinks finally did arrive, they were so weak. Our second round, we all just ordered on the rocks. Almost immediately after we received our second drinks, our waitress brought our check over like it was time to go. Things only got worse from here, believe it or not. Since we were kicked out of our table, we figured we'd get one more drink at the bar. After waiting for one of the bartenders to stop chatting and take our order, she very rudely asked for my husbands ID so he gladly handed it over. She studied it and then continued to question him on his ID. My husband is 28 years old. Not to mention, we had already been served two drinks. I feel like we were treated so terribly because we asked to switch tables after we were seated at completely unreasonable tables. We will never be returning to The Rustic Wheelhouse and we will be advising our friends to avoid this awful establishment. I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant. We tried to speak to a manager to work things out and was told there wasn't a manager available. All of this and not to mention, it was incredibly hot in the dining room. read more

OMG this was one of the worst experiences ever! Thought we were on candid camera it was so bad. The waitress left for a good 35 minutes, two of our four meals was wrong. When the last meal finally came it was 1 1/2 after we got there. We just had them pack up our meal. The owner was nice enough to buy us around of drinks ( thank god because we were there so long) but then tried to charge us for them on our bill, honestly it just getting worse and worse. Never will I go back there again. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner here last night. Our party ordered the chicken parm, parchment salmon, and veal francaise. Each of us raved about our meals. My veal was melt-in-your -mouth tender. The service was attentive and cordial. We were greeted by the owners personally. The menu was extensive and the prices were well within an acceptable range. This place in a hidden gem in the old village of Chester. It's well worth a visit. We will be back. read more

The ONLY good thing (sometimes) about this place is the service. I feel like they truly hold this place up. I am shocked to see them still open. Food takes up to an hour, sometimes is cold or just tastes like crap. Owners make excuses upon excuses, they have no idea what they are doing. As someone who works in the restaurant industry I always pay attention to the cleanliness of a restaurant and this place is filthy. TRUST ME your money is better invested somewhere else!!!! I do have to give credit where it's due, though, and the pizza is very very good here. They should close the upstairs and just do take out pizza. read more

Everything we ate was fantastic!! The pizza was some of the best I have ever had (even better than NYC's pizza!). Also tried the Wheelhouse Chicken which was very tasty. Will definitely return. read more

Great quaint restaurant downtown Chester. Atmosphere is relaxing and great for unwinding. Tony the owner and chef makes sure you are having an experience that keeps you coming back. This was the worst experience of my life. We waited 2 hours for a meal that was cold, consisting of hard pasta, which was really egg noodles and veal which was too hard to chew. The bartender was less than cordial. Overall I can say that this is definitely a place to avoid! We left and went across the street to eat! read more

I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant in all my life, 11 friends met at rustic wheelhouse at 6pm for our reservation at 8:40pm we finally received food and it was cold and looked like it sat out for a week! The bartender was rude and the owners were making excuses. This place needs to shut down and open again with new owners and cooks. It was a horrible experience! We left and went out to eat fresh good food, thank God read more

It was probably the best Rack of Ribs I have had in a very long time. Took my mom there for her birthday. My brother ordered surf and turf. The menu said it was a skirt steak and a piece of prime rib came out. They didn't bother to tell him that they didn't have any skirt steak and just took it upon themselves to give him prime rib which he doesn't like. We were very disappointed with our meal and will not be dining there again. The waitress was very sweet. She should work somewhere else. read more

Our daughter was home from college, and asked if we could go to the Rustic Wheelhouse. We have been there a couple times before, and even though I have been less than impressed with the food, the staff has been fairly pleasant, and my daughter liked the chicken marsala. I can say after tonight, I won't be back. There were a few more patrons than usual, but the service was terrible, and the food was flavorless, the presentation sloppy, and found hair in my meal. To say we were ignored, is an understatement. I was a server for many years, and despite being understaffed, it is a fundamental practice to at least touch base with your customers when you are stretched thin, and at least make sure they have water and the plates cleared. Saying that there were only two servers on the floor, does not absolve you from being scattered, and inattentive. We observed "the other server", checking in with her tables, smiling and getting things done. The busboy, walked past our table (full of dirty dishes and empty glasses), without a glance. Not sure he was quite sure of his duties. When I finally got our server's attention, and asked for water refills, and mentioned we had been waiting for a long time, she took our dirty dishes and loudly tossed them into the bin. Message received: you're annoyed at me. Well, I was annoyed too. Again, I was told there were only two servers. My husband and I always over tip....this night was an exception. I have a lot of sympathy for servers who bust their hump, especially under bad circumstances. But there was no excuse for a bad attitude. And the food...it was just blah. read more

I've never wrote a review in my life of a restaurant. Let me start off by saying my wife and I are a African Americans. I decided I wanted to try semi-local restaurant in the area. I had been in Chester the day before and walked into the "Wheelhouse" and was by a very nice friendly hostess who showed me the lunch and dinner menu. I told her I would return maybe another day with my wife. On the next day I decided return with my wife for a very early weekend dinner. We were greeted by a older different host who immediately had a little bit of that attitude. When she's seated us she attempted to put us all the way in the back of the restaurant away from other patrons. Basically in a empty restaurant behind a service wall that no one could see us from the door. When we asked the hostess to move us to a more central location we were told that all the tables have been reserved!! "And you didn't make reservations right". After a minute of feeling like this Hostess actions are very deliberate my wife and I walked out of the restaurant. Why would I give my money to a business who wants to hide me in the back out of sight!! read more
