If you'd like your bread and sandwich breathed on without a mask, at this restaurant you can count on one of the bakers and the owner to personally do so for you. I was there recently and saw one of the two bakers in the back, through the glass wall they have so people can see how bread is made, not wearing a mask. When I went to the counter to order my sandwich the owner walked behind the counter from the dining room without a mask, back and forth, as the guys (who did wear masks) were making my sandwich. Needless to say they should expect a visit from the authorities as I reported this grossly unsanitary situation to the proper agency, but, more importantly, the owner should expect that I'll NEVER go back there again. Beautiful cafe in Lemont! Tons of windows so it's nice and bright. The tables look like reclaimed wood and have pretty flowers in vases on each one. Service was friendly and I love that there's a window where you can see them baking the bread in the back! I was able to grab a table by the window which was great because there was an outlet nearby so I could plug in my laptop. Wifi is free which is always a nice bonus! At 10:30 am on a Friday it wasn't too busy - mostly just folks grabbing coffee or breakfast to go. By the time I left at about 12:30 pm, Rustic Knead was pretty packed with lunchers. I started with an iced coffee which was good. They have a bar area where you can add your own cream, milk, sugar, etc. I'm a skim milk only kinda gal. I'm guessing the coffee was hot before they poured it over ice, because it melted super fast. I suggest that they chill some coffee for those who want it iced in order to avoid that :) To eat I ordered a sandwich that came with fig, pears, caramelized onion, and arugula. You have the option of whole grain or white bread, so I went with whole grain. All sandwiches come with a pickle spear which is a nice touch. Super yummy bread and ingredients. Finished the whole thing! I don't live nearby, but I'd be willing to make the trip here. Great spot for working! Came here on Saturday morning with my Aunt who spoke very highly of this place. I keep hearing about how great the food is - but even great food with crappy service isn't that great. My breakfast sandwich was small, and after 11:00 am, I was told that it would take the daily soup that I ordered 10 minutes to warm up. I don't get it. SMILE, people!! The bread is pretty good, the coffee was very good and the almond croissant was excellent. My sandwich was ok, I wish it were bigger for the price. I love this place. Great quality every single time I go there. I get their caprese on rustic add Parma ham. With the peach joe tea. I usually pick up the hubby a ham and cheese croissant. They always have a great salad and soup special of the day too. They also have lots of cute chocolates and sweets you can purchase as well. One of our favorite places for breakfast. They have an awesome wood / metal aesthetic that creates a very at home vibe. They have a wide array of food options around the line that are easy grab and go items, too. It's always comfortable, even when they're busy. The egg sandwich with peppercorn jam is out of this world good. It's made to order, too, with fresh ingredients and you can absolutely tell the difference in taste. I haven't strayed from that sandwich because it's so good but their other menu items sound fantastic, too! Also, if you're a coffee drinker, they use Metropolitan which is absolutely delicious. Make sure to check their hours as they serve breakfast and lunch at different times. Both options are wonderful either way but it was something I missed! Did I mention they have a bakery, too? Pros: food was excellent, the cooks were very friendly. Great ambience. Cons: I told the cashier I did not need a receipt. Big mistake-I get home and somehow received an emailed receipt and noticed they took the liberty of adding a tip to my total without my knowledge or consent. Had they asked, I'd be more than happy to provide a tip, but that was sneaky. Not to mention the baristas had major attitude and were very unprofessional while we were there. Update: I called and spoke to someone, not the manager and explained what happened. He offered to refund the tip money and assured me it must have been a mistake.
