I should've really gone to the other store The food is EXCELLENT(hence the 3 stars)! The service is normally ok, as my first visit the owner gave us a run down of the history and invited us back during lunch hour, so of course we honored the invite. I'm intrigued by old stores, but don't try to treat me as though we're back in the day. The men (customers and staff) were okay or at least kept it respectful, but it only took one old lady to walk in and turn the vibe out. She kept staring at us like we had just crossed some boundaries, and the treatment from a few staff members shifted towards those of color, like "yeah whites only". I should've walked out at that instant, but it was just another creature's "attitude" at this point. Unfazed, I waited in line to order, but the old lady kept staring like I was to disappear. The order taker noticed her and proceeded to go around me and took the color-bothered lady's order. WOOOOW, not just attitude but action, I thought. But I wanted my hotdogs and cake so I waited as I made mental notes of the past, the present, and the future. BUT!, when I did get to place my order and paid for it, they said, "he didn't charge you enough", like wait, what? you GAVE me something? NO. I bought this at NO discount. For a hotdog, a thin pickle slice, and chips at 3.95each (which is kid's combo) and 3 cakes at 3.50 each. I paid 20.38., twenty dollars and thirty-eight cents. Like wtf.. how much more do I need to pay for 2 hotdogs and 3 small slices of cake? At this point, I knew it would be my last time supporting this place. It is I, and only I, who chooses who and what I support and THE OTHER STORE is not something I will continue to support as long as they indulge and support such customers' unacceptable behaviors. No hard feelings here, but if you want to serve and respect a "certain people", please put the sign back up and stop accepting OUR support of YOUR establishment. So let…read moreme start off by saying I am from the upstate part of South Carolina, where places like Clocks, Pete's, and Sugar-n-Spice are in abundance and their bacon cheeseburger plates are spectacular. If you are looking for a similar-style burger place in the Columbia area, then Whataburger is it. I enjoy the call-ahead drive-through, and there is plenty of parking. The interior is set up as a counter-service diner. The ordering process, whether in person or over the phone, is easy. Their bacon cheeseburgers do not come close to those in the upstate, but they are good. It is satisfactory in size, and the flavor is tasty. They are definitely a great burger option in the area. I wish the bacon was cooked a bit more. Otherwise, their bacon cheeseburger is pretty solid. Their fries are crinkle-cut and lightly salted. The fries I receive are always fresh. A few minutes later, the food arrived--no buzzer, no shout, just a quiet drop-off--and I was ready to dig in. The chicken was fresh from the fryer, piping hot, and fully cooked through. Not spicy, but flavorful and juicy in all the right ways. I polished off every piece with enthusiasm, leaving only the dinner roll untouched. The two little tubs of cole slaw didn't stand a chance either--crisp, creamy, and gone before I knew it. I did linger a moment, debating the chocolate-dipped ice cream cone that Zesto's known for, but tonight wasn't the night. Maybe next time, when I'm not so full or so close to a food coma.
