Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I rediscovered the great food at Rush's. The last time I went was back in the early 2000s, so visiting in 2024 made me realize just how long it had been! I remember we'd usually get the fried chicken and a few sides, and after a few visits, I was off exploring other restaurants. Recently, my sister and I made a stop there on our way to visit our parents. This time, instead of fried chicken, we were craving hamburgers, hotdogs, and fries. I'd never had a burger from Rush's, but my sister vouched for them, and she's usually spot-on with food recommendations. We ordered three hamburgers, fries, and a hotdog. I didn't want a hotdog for myself initially, but she encouraged me to try hers. Let me tell you--the photo I took doesn't do the burger any justice! It was huge, fresh, and delicious. I got mine loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and mayo. The fries were hot and crispy, just the way I like them. My sister even let me try a piece of her hotdog, and I instantly regretted not getting one myself--it was that good! The onions on it were amazing, and I'm usually not a big fan of onions! OMG what's happened to the fries? Rush's please go back to the OG fries. I went to Tush's specifically for their delicious basket of fries and coleslaw. I live out of town so I don't get to indulge as often as when I went to USC. These new fries (changed in 2025?) are crinkle cut and bigger with more crunch and LESS taste. I mean there was nothing. You could get better from the freezer section by grabbing a bag of Ore-Ida fries. A great thing was ruined. I don't have a reason to go to Rush's at all otherwise. Service was good. They are always very quick. Rush's almost always has customers because the ambiance and feel is nice and old school. There are many food items to choose from so do try them out. Just know those fries used to be better! read more

Your classic roadside joint. Well known for sure. Exit 9A off of 77. If you have never been, you absolutely must go. You need to get a cheeseburger, a chili dog, french fries and a chocolate shake. That will give you what I call the FULL experience - in more ways than one!! :-) It may not be the healthiest of meals but every now and then, go for it! Highly recommend. read more

I never had rushs in NC so when I moved here, I just thought this was a regular place, but it is so delicious. Today I got a chocolate sundae and I never knew ice cream could be so good. Maybe it was because today was a rainy day. I got a chocolate sundae with fudge and walnuts and I think that's the perfect combo. With nuts, it's $4.05. It looked kind of melted but we did have 6 other orders so I wasn't mad about it. We also ordered fries and they were crispy and fresh. I think ice cream and fries are the perfect combo. The new french fries taste like what you get from the grocery store freezer. I don't eat there much anymore because of the fries, and when I do I leave a comment card asking them to go back to the original fries. Burger and shakes are still excellent however. read more

During the pandemic, this restaurant is only open inside on Saturdays and Sundays. The drive through was open, and had a long line. We were happy it was Saturday so we could go in and eat. Masks were required. We were greeted at the door, and asked to keep six feet between customers - we looked for red spots on the floor to help us. The menu had lots of tempting items - peach and banana milkshakes! We got the hot dog basket with an extra dog (Husband said they were good.) and fries & slaw (both good). I had a cheeseburger with mayo & lettuce only. It was good, too. The tables and booths were marked in such a way as to enforce social distancing. The staff was friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself was very clean. This was better than name brand fast food restaurants. I gave it 4 stars for being very good - not 5 for being exceptional and excellent in all ways. read more

First time here. We are from out of town and saw the long line for 2 days so decided to give it a try. I had the jr. bbq sandwich, awesome it was gone before I could say anything or offer it to share with others. Should have got more fries, not a fan of the slaw too "dilly/tart" for me. Fries were great and can never go wrong with a Pepsi. I'm used to baskets or combos coming with a drink-disappointed to have to pay for it separately. The toppings are nice but the actual burger meat is pitiful...grey and flavorless. I don't think they salt it at ALL. At this point I can just make such a better burger at home. Rush's is a nice change to fast food. It is fast food, but it is better than most fast food. The chicken is true southern chicken with nice crisp skin. You can opt for double fries instead of slaw when you order a basket. The chili cheeseburgers are normally supreme, but today it was lacking flavor. The fries were not properly salted. This was my first time going to Rush's. I knew enough to get the chicken sandwich to be sure. I also got the basket to get an order of fries. The basket also comes with slaw, but I traded that for more fries. When I got my order I was amazed by the amount of food. The chicken sandwich was just plain great! It could have been crispier, but since I didn't ask for it that way, I just took it as they made it. The amount of fries was a crazy large amount, next time I will split it with someone else, maybe a stranger at the next table, whatever. I went there and ordered a few tailgate specials. The cashier and manager were both very friendly, and even offered me a drink while I waited. This place is always fast, which is great if you are in a hurry. The chicken is larger than most other restaurants, but also a bit more pricey. There is very fast and polite service here, even when compared to their other locations. It is one of the best fast food places along this corridor as you get a choice of chicken, beef, barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream. The barbeque sandwich is made with a mustard based sauce, which is a bit different from North Carolina or Kansas City sauce. I prefer it. The apple turnover and hot fudge cake sundaes are awesome, so long as you like vanilla. Baskets include fries and slaw, but drinks are separate. The slaw is thinly cut. Don't waste your time or your money on Rush's. I've been to this location as well as other locations several times over the years when I would visit visit Columbia. I'm originally from the Columbia / Garner's Ferry area and this location used to be decent fast food restaurant for a quick burger basket or chicken basket. Tonight I ordered the cheeseburger basket. The bun was much larger than the burger patty and the burger was room temperature at best, no warmth whatsoever. The fries were luke warm. However, there was abundant lettuce and tomato on that cold patty with the oversized burger bun. A waste of $7.79. read more

Stumbled on Rush's on a late night drive through the Carolina's, and the usually reliable "lots of cars in the parking lot on a late night" test had my pulling in the parking lot to check it out. I don't think I've ever been in a fast food place with more staff, and each of them were kind and helpful. I ordered up the 1/2 pound of chopped pork and an order of fries. The pork was moist and cooked well, and the fries were tasty, too. The rest of the menu looked pretty good as well, and if my timing is right, I'll be able to stop here again on my return trip.
