I shouldn't write this review, because then The Other Store wouldn't be my neighborhood secret anymore! Would you agree that anybody who painted starry night on the back of their building it's worth a second look?! They also have a great covered porch to sit outside on, or you can sit inside at a few tables.The atmosphere is very casual and down to earth, definitely a neighborhood vibe lots of local regulars (like me). You can't go wrong with anything here. My personal favorite is the spring chicken, but one time I saw a woman sitting at the counter who told me she was from Brooklyn, and told me they serve the best Ruben she had ever eaten. The staff is so friendly. Everyone knows the owner is named Linda. I can't remember exactly what day but I think it's Thursdays that she cooks a chicken bog. Order at the counter, pay in the convenience store section, and then wait for your food. The homemade cakes are so amazing that people order them for parties. Wonderful little store located in the heart of Forest Acres that serves a dam fine biscuit ! The best one is the sausage egg and cheese with a .99 apple juice to wash it all down for breakfast. They have a free books section for the neighborhood or any customers visiting the store. Also love the people who work here and their good attitudes about life. Local ice cream from Epworth Children's Home is found by the register. An old school place worth visiting, breakfast during the week only. Free parking of course to all visitors. read more

Went here last Saturday based on a friend's suggestion. I'd never heard of it before...and it is off the beaten path. We arrived around 11:30 and the parking lot was pretty full. Went in the back door after crossing over the outdoor deck/porch. The back room where they make the food was very small with people squeezed into real small tables in the corners. Had one person making the food, another helping load it and preparing and the third, Grace, taking phone orders, orders from the bar and delivering it to the tables when ready. People were waiting in line to order and others sitting in a little second room with about 6 small booths or more eating. My wife and I ordered a avocado sandwich (I ordered a half sandwich and potato soup). They come with a bag of lays potato chips. My wife found a booth in the second room as I placed our order. I'd read that the service is slow and I told he to expect that. It seems like all of the people there were familiar with the place and many knew each other. After about 20 minutes, maybe 25, Grace brought out our order. She sad she'd be right back with my potato soup. The sandwich was very good. Large sandwich on toasted bread. My wife could only finish half of it. Very good, but the tomato and lettuce made it want to fall out of the bread a bit while eating it. My wife had to go back up to the table and ask about my soup, as Grace didn't bring it right out as she said. I think she forgot about it. I wasn't impressed with the soup. It was okay, potatoes and cheese ( a bit stringy) with some bacon and shredded cheddar on top of it. Not bad, just okay. I doubt if I'd order it again. They do have a good selection of sandwiches and wraps. I think the food is good and it's definitely a hot spot for the locals. I was thinking of bringing our lunch group here on a Tuesday, but after visiting and seeing how cramped it is and the length of time it takes to get a sandwich order I've decided it's not a place for 5-9 guys to show up with for lunch. I'm only giving it three stars because of the service, ambience- I think the food deserves more stars. read more

Every time it's "that'll be 30 minutes" and every time I walk in there 50 minutes later they look at you and then begin making the sandwich after 10 other orders have come in. It's disrespectful to my time, it's not honest, and it's incredibly frustrating. Things are tough right now, I get it. The food here is fantastic. Love the Jamacian and the Spring Chicken sandwiches. Everyone should try the side of fruit and the cucumber salad as well. 2 of the best side dishes I have ever tried. They usually also have cake by the slice and other baked goods to take withyou. A great neighborhood deli and store. The store has an okay selection of drinks and a few staples but it is the deli that really shines. Their sandwiches are cooked to order and always taste so good. Hotdogs and chili are always fresh and cheap and they always have some type of homemade dessert available. I make an effort to support local businesses and tried this lunch spot due to the rave recommendations. First off, this mom and pop shop is endearing. Incredibly friendly people, genuine too! As for the food, I wasn't too impressed with my sandwich (Avocadowich). It was pretty generic, nothing I couldn't make at home or get cheaper at a chain sandwich shop. The ingredients were uninspired and tasted as though they were mass purchased at Sam's Club rather than selectively choosing artisanal items. However, I am so relieved I took the cashier's advice to try their Friday special: the chicken boq. I'm not from this area originally so I had no idea what it was. It seemed popular amongst the regulars so I decided to get a cup. Woweee, it's like a stuffing textured chicken and rice mixture topped with a tangy sauce. My buddy who's children go to Harmony suggested this place. Had never heard of it, but loved it! It's like a Forest Acres Bodega. Friendly people. Great food. My buddy said they roast their meats in house. I had the turkey and avocado and it was delicious. He had a melt that smelled good. A family-run operation that makes a mean sandwich. Whatever long-ago sandwich jockey got the idea of adding horseradish to the turkey-avocado was a genius. It cuts the taste perfectly. It's worth the $.75 to add one of their cookies to your sandwich, too, and I usually grab one of the bottled cheerwines from the convenience store coolers to finish everything off. $10 for an outstanding lunch.
