This place is special. I love the old diner vibe (larger than a traditional diner but my statement still stands). The service could be hit or miss. Attended comedy night at Di Prato's. A great time was had by all. (Well, except maybe that one table who didn't get the jokes!) What I loved: * everyone had table seats, which is rare for an affordable comedy evening. * small but thoughtful event menu. I went with their famous pimento cheese loaded fries - maybe bbq sliders or wings next time. *full bar, with a range of beer and wine including local Columbia Craft. *a range of comedians and a talented musician performance. I want to start by saying our server was super friendly and accommodating. I give her five stars. I've been going to Di Prato's off and on for 20 years and also briefly worked there a long time ago. Today was the first time it was bad so maybe they were having an off day. My husband's portobello sandwich was so drenched in the balsamic it made the bread very soggy and was all you could taste. The grilled chicken panini (which I've enjoyed previously) had very little chicken in it and it was like shoe leather. My jaw got alotta exercise trying to eat it. My dog however gives it 5 stars. I've also always liked the pimento cheese but today I swear it was mostly mayo. I don't know if they changed the recipe or if my memory of it is flawed. We left hungry. Food was great! We had a Triple Rueben, Vegetable Sandwich, Sailor Sandwich & the Caprese Panini. For Appetizers we had the Bacon Gouda Pimento cheese & White Cheddar Pimento Cheese. First time trying them because I was in the mood for a really good sandwich. It sits in the corner and not hard to get to. The parking lot is rather small. I sat outside because they have outside seating which was nice and the customer service was exceptional. They were so kind and prompt! I ordered a pomegranate mimosa, and the chicken salmanta on multi grain ciabatta bread with fries. It was so good! I'll definitely be back to try the breakfast menu and other menu item. I was not too impressed with my trip to DiPratos, which was disappointing because it had been recommended to me by several different people, and I was excited to try it out. I came in a few minutes after 10:00 a.m., the time they open, and while I don't expect a restaurant to be in tip-top shape the second they open, they did not seem at all ready for the day or to accept customers. I stood at the front for a few awkward moments before asking one of the hostesses if I was supposed to seat myself, when she replied "oh no, I'll seat you", and then led me to one of the nearby tables. Somewhat grossly, the tablecloth on the table I was seated at was covered with coffee stains from previous guests, which was kind of unsettling. I then asked for a cup of coffee, and was told that there wasn't any ready, and that I would need to wait a few minutes. Again, not a huge deal, but I would expect a breakfast restaurant to have some coffee ready by the time that they open. Second, when perusing the menu, I was not particularly impressed by their "limited breakfast" options, nor anything on their regular menu. I decided to go with a simple hot dog, and substituted the offered sides with an order of French fries, which ridiculously cost me almost $4 extra. In addition, my hot dog was fine, but nothing exceptional, and definitely not better than one I could've gotten at Costco for a markedly cheaper price. The one (1) bright spot was that the fries were very good, and of higher quality than most other fries I've gotten at similar restaurants. Finally, my server was nice enough, but a little rough around the edges and not overly attentive. In addition, the ambiance was pretty basic, with nothing about it that really stuck out. All-in-all, I wouldn't be adverse to returning to DiPratos on a Saturday or Sunday to try their breakfast menu, but I won't be coming back during the week, and wouldn't really recommend that anybody else do so either. read more

Our ROMEO group of seven went for lunch today. Got there at 11:15 and it was a great time to go. Immediately seated and our waitress Linsday took our drink orders. Followed up with our meal orders. We started with an appetizer of the regular pimiento cheese and the pita bread. Still the best Pita triangles anywhere. Warm and nice little crispyness on the outside but soft on the inside. Everytime we've been here we order these ( and I think everyone else must too). Three of us ordered the Patrami with Swiss cheese sandwichies. We had an order for the lunch special Thanksgiving dinner sandwich, a shrimp Po'Boy sandwich and an order for a hot Italian Hoagie. The Po'Boy was very good with a nice remoulade sauce. The Hoagie was very good, warmed and with jalapenos on the side had a little kick to it. It wasn't as large as you get at some of the delis but it was very good. Everyone liked their dish. Lindsay was great and came around to check on us several times during the meal. Nice atmosphere...our average rating for today was a 4.25 and I'm sure we'll return. read more

We love Di Prato's!!!!!! My boyfriend and I have always enjoyed coming for a nice lunch as they've got great food and service, but today's visit really sealed the deal for us. Keista was our waitress and she really deserves a huge shoutout because she was absolutely amazing. Stopped in for a late lunch, and just wow!! I was blown away by the interior, the variety, and the customer service, which is top-tier. The shrimp po boy is good. The shrimp are fried and seasoned well, and they are a good size. The bread on the sandwich was spot-on. The wrong bread can throw a po boy off, but this one was the right type of bread for a good po boy. It's definitely enough to get full and then have some leftovers. I did request to hold the ketchup, but it was on the sandwich, which took away from my fully enjoying the sandwich. The fries are pretty standard. They came out hot which was great.  The Di Prato's combo, although I modified it so there was no ham or sprouts, was amazing as well. I will have to return for their brunch and mimosas. This deli is affordable (maybe because it's so close to the university) and the pita chips are fresh, buttery and warm when they arrive to your table. No complaints. This quaint little restaurant in downtown Columbia is definitely someplace you should try if you're ever in the area. I've never had a bad meal there. Their triple-decker Reuben sandwich is by far the best I've ever eaten! However, I think they are most well-known for their cheese and pita chips. I could make a meal out of those! Pastrami has a smoky, peppery flavor from being coated in a spice rub and smoked over hardwood, while corned beef is typically boiled or steamed with a milder, salty taste.
