Met a friend for supper who was staying next door at the hotel. He had never tried Mediterranean Cafe so we gave it a shot. Parking is in the hotel parking lot as they share the lot so early there was plenty of room. Raining and muggy so we couldn't set on the nice patio at front. Place was actually crowded but we were able to get a two top. Hosted and waitress were supper friendly. They have some craft beer option and they had a German option which I went with. The special was a blackened Salmon with a peach chutney that was phenomenal. We each had a Greek salad also that was large and delicious. We finished with a delectable baklava. My husband and I came here for a little lunch date today & I am so glad we did! We chose to sit at a table on the patio, being that it was such a beautiful day outside. Our server was very nice & accommodating. She refilled our waters regularly. We both ordered gyros. My husband ordered his with a side of seasoned potatoes and I ordered mine with a Greek salad appetizer. He took one bite and said, "Yup, this is delicious!" It was. It was very good and very filling. They use ground lamb, as opposed to shaved lamb meat, but nonetheless, it was filled with flavor. I had to try my husband's seasoned potatoes too because they looked so good. I was very fond of those too! The items on the menu are anywhere between $10- $17, but I felt as though they were well worth it, in my experience. The salad tasted great & fresh to order too! Such a bad experience I won't even frequent for a repeat chance. We choose to eat outside. Huge mistake. So noisy with the 4 lane right there and flies were abundant. Couldn't move inside because a dining companion refuses still to eat indoors due to COVID. Food was way subpar. The salad had uncored tomatoes with hard green cores and I had a 1" thick slice of cucumber which tells me there's no attention to detail. My entree was salmon and came burned black. The server had to be visually impaired to bring that to the table. I sent it back and didn't order anything else. My phone died before I could get a pic of my entrée unfortunately. From my order food we're bland to little taste (don't get me wrong I'm not one to want a lot of taste or salt but this is a little too little even for me). Chicken is very lightly marinaded (olives had way more taste-for reference) and it's a little dry. I was surprised that it didn't come with pita bread (most places do). We paid extra for the bread and hummus sauce which was good. I think all in all most of the food had very light taste to none like the rice. The grilled vegetables were delicious. The food was excellent. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. My wife and I decided to try something a little different than the typical American / Italian / Asian fare that we usually go for on date nights. After being seated, it took about 10-15 minutes to get our appetizer order in. Our server didn't even introduce herself. We ordered a bruschetta as an appetizer. My wife hates olives (I love 'em), so we asked for them on the side. It took another 15 minutes or so for the appetizer to be delivered. The olives were in their factory default setting. Not a big deal, but alas ~ It was pretty obvious that they had some kind of party / banquet thing going on upstairs and that was getting the lion's share of the attention from the staff. Other patrons were visibly upset around us. It took another 30 minutes or so for our dinners to arrive. Not once during this 30-minute interval were we acknowledged or reassured that they were behind or anything like that. I Iooked at my watch and told my wife that if our dinners didn't arrive in 5 minutes, that we would just walk out and go to our normal place. Once it finally arrived, the food was delicious - no complaints there - but our server never checked on us after the fact. She just waited until we were done and dropped off our check. Bottom line - acknowledge your guests and if you are running behind due to a large party - just be *transparent* about it and you will get a lot more sympathy than you would by just ignoring your guests. I don't think I will be going back. Grecian Gardens or Al Amir is better anyway. read more

Restaurant is convenient to comfort suites. The service was great and quick. Calamari was ok a little cold. But falafel where relishes and warm. We got the special mahi-mahi with cheddar mashed potatoes and bacon wrapped asparagus. All very good. The potatoes were not as warm as the could have been. Finally had a chance to eat at this restaurant.... oh my goodness... they did not disappoint! I ordered broiled Shrimp in a traditional Greek sauce of olive oil, cooked fresh tomatoes, with feta cheese, black olives... seasoned just right, a little spicy... I did have them leave off the jalapeño's. I also ordered grilled fresh vegetables instead of having a Greek salad. My goodness the veggies were grilled just right and were great with my shrimp. The serving was generous! Hubby had smothered chicken, he did change out the mozzarella cheese for feta... (he's lactose intolerant)... he also enjoyed a beautiful greek salad... he says it was delicious as well... very generous portions as well. We are definitely coming back--soon. Wait staff is very attentive and kind. We arrived as they opened... and it filled up fast. So keep that in mind... or make reservations...I know you will enjoy. Best mediterranean in Lexington County. Some of the best hummus ever! When ever my wife drags me to the Town of Lexington to shop this is where we eat or pick up. The falafel is the best in town. Crunches like a fried chicken commercial. The tahini dressing on it great. Can't beat the salads and gyro. Gyro is different than at a greek place. They put hummus on it instead of taziki. Hands down the worst "dining experience" ever. The table beside ours had 10 people at it and 4 more standing around talking so loudly that the 2 of us couldn't hear each other. The people standing around literally had their (large) behinds brushing against our table and on our food in spite of my repeated efforts to get them to move. The manager said, "I'm so sorry." Nothing more. It's a hometown restaurant that caters to men in flip flops and t-shirts for dinner but not cheap fare. I'd expect this beer-drinkin' rowdiness at D's Wings but not here. We tried, begged, but gave up and left. We left our salmon and nice wine but the bread we asked for twice never came. Lesson learned. Don't go back. read more

I haven't been to this restaurant in a long time, but I'm definitely glad I came back. When I first got here the staff was really friendly and they had a lot of great menu choices. When the hummus and Greek salads first came out I tasted them and there was absolutely no flavor to them. I realize they make their hummus in house but maybe they forgot to add salt or something. After tasting my appetizers I was not expecting much in way of the main course. Boy was I wrong, I got the gyro and I was not disappointed. That gyro was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious and packed full of flavor. My wife got the crab cake sandwich and it was cooked perfectly. Quite possibly the best crab cake I've ever tasted. I'm not sure what all these people leaving great reviews are talking about but this place is not good. For starters the bruschetta is served on pita bread with no cheese. It's pita bread some tomatoes, basil, and olives. I ordered the gyro and it had minimal flavor. It's pure ground beef. Not a single lamb option on the menu. They upcharged my side salad 1.50 for a Greek salad that was iceberg lettuce with two slices of tomatoes, two slices of cucumber, some cheese, and one olive. My wife ordered the $18 smothered chicken dinner plate and that was even worse. It's the same chicken breast served on our daughters kids plate but cut up, covered in mozzarella cheese and CANNED mushrooms. Seriously, canned mushrooms. And for $18?!?! Look my review is 100% honest and if this is your favorite spot for Mediterranean food you really need to find a different place. We had an excellent experience! We were in a bind with our son's wedding rehearsal dinner as the Covid closings and restrictions set in. MacKenzie saved the day and did not disappoint with such short notice! MacKenzie took care us and went above & beyond with her staff in serving our group at a neighboring hotel. Earlier in the day, She saw that I was behind schedule upon arrival with my decorations for the room and told me to go to rehearsal and she would take care of it. When we arrived, the entry door and the room was decorated better than I could have done! The food was delicious! Not a complaint in the room. The beverages were cold. Think of this as mediterranean food like you get in an airport or mall kiosk. It is not that is bad, it is just not that good. Most dishes are barley above bland and not so much on the authentic side. We really wanted to like it, but it is not worth returning for. I think that this is the first time ever posting a review and unfortunately it is not a good review. I have been to the restaurant several times in the past and loved the food and the service, but not today. I usually order the Greek Salad with Chicken and it is one of the best Greek salads I have had since moving to Lexington. Today, I order the Greek Salad with Grilled Shrimp. First of all who serves shrimp with the tail on. Maybe in the South, but I have never been served a Shrimp Salad with the tails on. I spent about 7 minutes removing the tails on my HOT Shrimp. The pita bread was so hard it must have been sitting out all day. And the salad had no taste, I kept putting salt and pepper on the salad for some flavor, but there was none. As to the service, horrible. After the young lady took my order, she never came back to see if everything was ok (I probably would have just said everything was ok). The next time she came by, she dropped off the check and said "whenever you are ready". It only takes 2 minutes to get "ready". I ended up just leaving $21 cash on a $20.71 bill. Sorry it might have been more if she came back and picked up charge card, but she didn't. Not sure if I will be back, but probably not. read more

First night in Lexington and by the time my meetings finished for the day (8:00 pm) with no lunch I was starving. This place was right next to my hotel so decided to stop in for a quick bite. They close at 9:00, but it was obvious when I walked in at about 8:30, they were ready to go home - no customers, well into side work. However, I was warmly greeted by the two ladies working that evening. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken to go and a glass of wine while I waited. Service was quick and I had my salad before I finished my wine. I headed back to my hotel to enjoy my salad. Let me start by saying the chicken was so flavorful and there was a nice amount on the salad. They were kind enough to put the dressing on the side without my asking - much appreciated. The salad was served with warm pita bread - again very fresh and tasty. It was loaded with tomato and cucumber which was a plus as well. However, the entire salad was iceberg. For some reason I expected romaine or some other dark leafed variety in addition. There was almost too much feta cheese. I also expected kalamata olives - there was one. Yes - just one olive and one small pepperoncini! I thought kalamata olives were an important component of the Greek salad, but apparently not at the Mediterranean Café. While I appreciated them throwing something together so close to closing and the friendly service, I would probably not stop by again if I were ever in Lexington. read more

For a vegan option, I had the vegetarian plate (minus feta). Everything on the plate was very tasty except I was not fond of the hummus (which is odd because I really like many varieties of hummus). I have eaten at the Mediterranean Cafe MANY TIMES and have enjoyed it very much! The staff is always friendly and accommodating, there is a nice wine selection and the food is great! My personal favorite entree is the smothered chicken with grilled veggies, but the Greek Salad with chicken is also a family favorite - especially for lunch. But, if you REALLY want something great, try one of the STEAKS. These are absolutely the BEST IN TOWN!! The hummus is wonderful and I also enjoy the mozzarella tomato appetizer. My wife and I went here for lunch a few days ago and it was ok. Nothing to write home about. We got a chicken and a gyro sandwich. I have eaten gyros before but this one was unique. I did read the description and tried something new. If you have eaten a gyro before this has their spin on it. My wife's meal, chicken sandwich, should have just said a chicken wrap and not sandwich. The sandwich/wrap was almost as the same as my gyro. I just feel that they should not have called my gyro a gyro because it did not have tzatziki sauce on it.
