    Crazy toasters on the wall
    Judy B.

Had to take the truck to Ford because a chipmonk chewed thru a wire. Sigh. It was 10am and breakfast sounded good. Found this nice little place. So cool inside with crazy toasters on the walls. Also seating outside. Service was great and with a smile. I had the Animas breakfast which was bacon and eggs with 2 delicious potato cakes and wheat toast. Very good. Coffee good. The wife had corn beef hash with 2 over easy eggs on top. She loved. I knew it as soon as I read their menu. She likes different stuff. They also make breakfast drinks but alas, we had to drive 3 hours back to Creede so had to pass. Someone got a burger for lunch that looked good but was huge.

SO GOOD!! YOU SHOULD GO HERE!!! Servers are SO kind, the portions were huge!! The food was amazing, every bite was phenomenal. It wasn't super expensive, and I ordered the special quiche with ham and chocolate pancakes. It came with 2 pancakes bigger than my head, a huge, fluffy, flavorful quiche with sausage, and a slice of ham that was so delicious. The restaurant was beautiful and safe. This place is my Durango #1!!!

My favorite spot in Durango to grab breakfast! Such a cute diner spot for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the Benedict and an iced chai latte. The food was delicious and the potatoes were so different and tasty. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Durango!

Found this cute breakfast place in Durango. Wow. One of their specialties is the potato pancakes. It comes with most of their breakfast entrees. I had the veggie Benedict which was oh so good! Best I've ever had! Service was great. Very friendly and attentive.

Truffle scramble with added ham, avocado, and mushrooms

Hit this place up on the way out of town. We had to wait a half hour due to this place being popular, but we had a large group of 7. Once we sat down though, they were super fast handling all of our orders and requests! I really enjoyed my Truffle Scramble. I like how they make it so easy to personalize their scrambles. I added ham, mushrooms and avocado to mine for slight additional fees. My husband enjoyed his steak and eggs. We ordered their special chorizo bread pudding entree and a shareable because we couldn't resist that savory and sweet option! I highly recommend the vanilla chai latte. One of the best ones I've ever enjoyed! My friends ordered that too once they heard me order mine and tried mine. The ambiance is cute with the varied toasters hanging on the walls. As a Star Wars fan, I was glad they included one with the Millennium Falcon!

    CHICKEN FRIED STEAK

A local favorite! Visiting Durango every once in a while we usually stick to restaurants within walking distance of main street but during our last visit, a worker in a local store asked if we'd ever been to Rupert's because they had the best chicken fried steak and banana nut French toast - so that's exactly what we did and we'll always go back! The restaurant is near the edge of town, tucked away. It's small, so it seems to fill up quickly but the wait wasn't too bad. We had the best server! He was happy, friendly and very busy as he was juggling lots of tables but didn't miss a beat with refills, checkins and answers to all my questions. But don't take my word for it, try it for yourself - plus, here's a couple photos that speak for themselves...

We went twice while in Durango and both times were delicious. The jalapeño bacon is so good! Eggs Benedict were great.

    Southwest Benedict
    Jamie S.

Deliciousness! I had the Southwest Benedict. The eggs were softly poached to perfection. They kindly asked if that preparation would be acceptable. Hubby had the Huevos Rancheros and added pulled pork. Both dishes were packed with flavor. The pulled pork on both was so moist. I read they are known for their potato pancakes and they have a right to be. The service was great. Coffee and waters were kept filled and they checked on us to make sure we were happy with the dishes. We sat outside with our two dogs. It's not a picturesque patio as some outdoor patios are, but we were glad to be able to have our dogs with us. We will definitely return.

    Toasters on the wall

MiL and husband says the corn fritter with the southwest eggs Benedict has a corn fritter topped with pulled pork, poached egg, and hatch green chile salsa is amazing/exceptional. I had the build your own scramble with pancakes. Really OMG good. Much better than Oscar's. Cannot say enough about how good the food is here. Service is fast and friendly, excellent. And the ambiance is unique. Toasters on the wall of all different types from hello kitty to Darth Vader. Highly recommend!

It's very cute little breakfast/bunch place with fresh ingredients and good looking bread. The food all looked nicely made. They have a lot of old toasters on walls as decoration. Super cute!

    Classic French Toast

I came here with a group of 4 others during the peak busy hours for breakfast. Although there was limited space they were highly accommodating, and managed to find seating for us. I ordered the French toast, which wasn't too sweet (just how I like it). The menu was expansive, with many vegetarian options. Parking here is a challenge, so be sure to come early.

Heirloom Potato Hash with Sourdough Toast
    Dallas C.

Food and service were top shelf! I would highly recommend stopping by. We got the Chicken Fried Steak. Gas. Heirloom Potato hash. Gas. Banana Nut Bread French toast. Gas, (add apple butter). Gluten free buttermilk pancakes. Gas. Animas Breakfast. Gas. Cinnamon Roll. Gas. Overall. Gas. Add this on your next visit to Durango!

Instead of a refund that the owner, Tim, offered that same day, I instead ordered another steak salad. This salad was delicious! Thank you.

However, we had gone on its closing day and had some great tacos, salad, and ramen. Their birria is rich and meaty with a touch of cinnamon and was awesome as a ramen and taco. If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.

We had found ourselves on a waitlist at some "fried stuff with cheese" restaurant down the street, which nothing at all looked appetizing to me so I vetoed. Got on Yelp, found 636 well rated nearby and the menu looked wonderful. Got here to a healthy amount of patrons and warm ambiance/atmosphere. Service was great despite me being an annoying tourist. I tried every dish we had plus the hot rolls, which have a buttery pimento dip. Everyone agreed that the food was spectacular. Of all the things to love about 636 (which there are many), my favorite is that when I mentioned our anniversary to the lady, she said "Oh! I'll get the anniversary confetti!" Hilarious and endearing. I love Durango already, and 636 made such a great impression. Thank you!

We were seated on the patio and it took quite a while for our server to greet us. Once she did, she brought water and took our drink order. She returned with our drinks and said she would be back to take our food order. We had plenty to talk about while waiting, but she repeatedly walked past our table to attend to other tables without stopping. Eventually, I had to stop her and let her know we were ready to order. My wife and our friend's wife both ordered a pasta dish with sliced steak and spinach. My friend had a salad with salmon and a bowl of soup, and I ordered the filet with potato lasagna and spinach. As the evening went on, it became breezy and chilly. I asked another server if the patio heater could be turned on, and someone came over right away to help, which we appreciated. When our meals arrived, everything looked excellent and tasted very good. The food was definitely the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, our server only stopped by our table once during the entire meal to check on us and it was lien she was in a rush to leave to table. We spent a long time waiting to see if she would ask whether we needed anything or if we were finished. It wasn't as though she had to go out of her way to reach us--she walked past our table numerous times while serving her other tables. Because of the lack of attention, I once again had to get her attention to let her know we were finished and ask for a dessert menu. I ordered the Dubai Chocolate dessert to go after she highly recommended it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the description once I had a chance to eat it. The chocolate flavor was very mild, and the crunchy layer on the bottom was not particularly enjoyable nothing like a Dubai Chocolate. Overall, the food was excellent and deserving of praise. However, for a fine dining restaurant where both the food and drinks come at premium prices, the service fell well short of expectations. Great meals can make for a memorable evening, but attentive service is an important part of the fine dining experience, and unfortunately that was missing during our visit.
