Really a 3.5 star experience but If you have to choose between 3 and 4 stars... The food is here supposedly island/Caribbean inspired, but my husband got the jerk chicken and it was far from a taste of the islands. It was dry and super bland. My fish tacos were decent, though a small portion (and I'm a small gal so I don't usually mind smaller portions). I can see how this would be a fun, convivial environment most times. However, for covid times, the outdoor tables were squished far too close together. And we had the unfortunate soundtrack of a rowdy group of drunk young men shouting at each other. Not a great experience, but not something I fault the restaurant for. All in all, we left feeling like we overpaid for average (and, in my husband's case, below average) food. There is a great vibe here, starting with valet parking, a bar that has extra standing room in the main area, lots of tables, and an outdoor porch out back with tables and a counter seating area. The counter seating overlooks the water, and it's worth the wait if you go as a group of 2 or 3. The menu has some real hidden gems, the drinks are top notch, prices are reasonable. My one year wedding anniversary landed on father's day this year so I thought it would be impossible to get a good table. I put in a reservation and they sat us at a table overlooking the water outside just like I asked! We only had to wait about 5 minutes and everyone was so friendly and just wonderful. Strong and fun being served in a mason jar, it's Rumba time!! Driving thru Hampton Bays, it's like hometown America. This is the Hamptons that everyone zooms thru to other destinations. It makes me feel good to have a fun restaurant serving good food in Hampton Bays. Pulling into the parking lot, there's valet parking. I'm not a fan of valet parking, I saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off! But this being one of "The Hamptons", I'm sure these guys have parked some crazier cars than my Dodge. (Keep your Porsches, I have a Shaker Challenger and its just sexy) Walking in, if you want to participate in Happy Hour, you can take a seat at the surfboard or at the bar. You're not getting Happy Hour in the dining area. I like to be happy, lets get the happy hour underway! We order out strong drinks as well as Duck empanadas, Jamaican wings and Fish Tacos. The wings, my wife said were a little too spicy for her but I thought they packed a flavor punch! Spicy, sticky and yummy, these ribs were packing some great flavors. The Duck empanadas also tasted great, the empanadas were very flaky and the fish tacos, I was hoping for fresh fluke, I had fried fish in my taco. Loved having dinner here recently. Great atmosphere, great staff with quick service, great food, and a beautiful view! Even though we were nervous that there was going to be a long wait by the look of the place when we walked in as a table of 5, we were quickly seated. We were given menus and the waiter gave us time to decide where to begin. I started with a rum punch drink. It was good, but was more on the fruity side than having a stronger taste of alcohol. For my main course, I ordered the tuna burger, which was delicious! So fresh and seasoned really well. My fiancé ordered a jerk chicken dish with coconut risotto which he said really had a kick, which he enjoyed. The others we were with ordered tacos and a jerk chicken salad which everyone enjoyed. Stopped by for lunch today and was happy to be seated outside with a nice view of the water. Rumba is a casual, but pretty little restaurant. Our server forgot our Dominican Ribs appetizer and brought our entrees out straight away. I was a little saddened by this, as I'd been looking forward to tying he ribs. My jerk chicken platter had great flavor with the perfect amount of heat, balanced by the sweetness of fresh mango and papaya salsa. I was a big fan of the creamy coconut risotto it was served over. We didn't get to see a desert menu, and I was surprised by this as well. The place wasn't very busy so it wasn't like someone was waiting for our table. First off let me say that this place is awesome staff is very friendly, welcoming and pleasant. I had the Beenie rum punch which was good but be careful because they will sneak up on you. Mojito was good also, pina colada was tasty but not really my thing due to being on the rocks. Our waitress Conchetta was really nice gave good food suggestions and was very attentive. For appetizers we had Caribbean wings 9/10, Dominican Ribs 10/10, shrimp taco 10/10, pulled pork 10/10, fish taco 8/10. For entrees we had chili pork tenderloin 6/10 didn't really like how the pork was cooked and didn't have much flavor to my liking. Excellent restaurant with delicious food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere. We ordered the wings, appetizer ribs, 3 different tacos, guacamole dip, the ribeye steak, and the salmon. Everything was delicious and seasoned, cooked and served just right. The service from the staff was excellent and one of our servers (and a good friend) Brandon was so well knowledgeable in the details of the entire menu that we ended up ordering enough food for 5 people (even though we were 2). The high quality of the ingredients was noteworthy in every dish. The chicken used in the wings was very soft and well seasoned. The dips were great and the ribs were so well cooked you could bite through the bone and taste the bone marrow (literally). The ribeye and the salmon were equally delicious as were their side dishes. Tacos also spot on. What sealed the deal was the mouthwatering tres leches cake which comes with homemade whipped cream. That cake alone is enough to make me want to go back to Rumba. Finally, you can take their small boat and go to their sister restaurant Cowfish and have a drink there and come back. Wow!!! I went here for the first time last night. As I'm already salivating over going back to this yummy eatery, I figured it was worth a review! Food: Cocktails and beer selection was on point. To eat, we started with the duck empanadas and knew we were in for a great meal. I had the Jerk Chicken Platter for dinner. It was my definition of summer dinner perfection. I leaned over to try my friend's Dominican ribs and the meat fell right off the bone! These were the best ribs I have ever tried. Food was extremely fresh and flavorful. Ambiance: Casual, but not lackluster. There was a cute charm to this place that made you feel like you were on a tropical vacation. Definitely a plus that you could enjoy your pre-dinner drinks on the dock; and another plus that they had old beach photographs on the bathroom walls. My group thought these were cute. Service: We had a phenomenal server! I love getting excitement from the server when you ask him/her for a few suggestions off the menu. I've been here before and there food is yummy here's my issue. I came to this place with my family and a baby, we had a reservation and it didn't matter we still were last seated with no urgency. Rumba provides such a fun and beautiful dining experience. A large group of us arrived on Thursday evening and waited about an hour and a half for a table --not bad at all for a group of 9 on a holiday weekend! While we waited, we got a round of rum punches and went down to the water to take in the sunset views. Service was attentive, a pleasant surprise considering how crowded the restaurant was, but it did take quite a while to get our entrees. For appetizers, we got the grilled artichokes, Dominican ribs, double dip (guacamole and pimento cheese), and the seared tuna. I wasn't impressed by the cheese, but the guac and seared tuna were very good!! I didn't try the grilled artichokes, but it seemed like no one at the table was a fan. The Dominican ribs though were AMAZING! Slathered in the tastiest stickiest spicy-sweet sauce, those ribs were one of the best dishes we had that night. For entrees, almost everyone got tacos! The taco of the day was a buffalo chicken type taco, and all who ordered it couldn't stop raving about it. We also tried the shrimp, fish, chicken and carnitas tacos. You definitely can't go wrong with any of them --they were all sooo good, and very filling! Our waitress recommended three per person, but with the appetizers, we all agreed two each would have sufficed. Went to the Hamptons for a night right before 4th of July weekend. Everything was packed. But we waited for a table at Rumba. And I'm so glad we did! The drinks were tasty and strong. We got the Caribbean Punch. The food was fantastic and I loved the outdoor seating. Between us we ordered the Duck Empanada appetizer, the crab cake appetizer, the Dominican ribs appetizer and the Island Ribeye dinner. Every last bite was fabulous and to die for. Professional service began with the parking attendant, continued with the host who accurately estimated our wait time, great waitstaff, and concluded with the manager coming over at the end to check and chat. These were fall off the bone tender and savory. Also on the sweet side, so if you're craving something spicy, try something else. Crab cakes as a main came two to an order. Well seasoned, but not lump crab. (Note... we're not in Maryland). The plate was redeemed by superb garlic mashed potatoes, and elevated by a great piece of elote with chipotle lime butter. My companion's ahi tuna salad was fresh and delicious, with lots of mango and avocado. Someone here knows how to cook. The mammoth piece of key lime pie, with pecans in the graham cracker sealed the deal. A nice tart filling, great crust and lots of whipped cream will always please. Stopped in for a quick dinner last Friday with my boyfriend. It was my first time dining here but I go to sister restaurant Rhum occasionally! I was excited to experience the new atmosphere with the yummy food I know they offer. They were very busy for a Friday night in the winter! It was very nice to see. Unfortunately we were seated on the enclosed patio and it was very cold with a draft coming in so we had to keep our jackets on the whole time. We ordered the duck empanadas, a Buffalo solider taco, shrimp taco and rastaman taco. Everything was very good!! I would definitely recommend the duck empanadas, very flavorful. Our food took awhile to come out but I did here the waitress mention to another table the kitchen was backed up. I'm never one to complain about that, so personally it didn't bother me. Especially in these unprecedented times, everyone's doing their best. Upon paying we got a cool incentive to come back, an envelope that you have to bring back closed to either Rumba or Cowfish and it'll be 25% up to 100% off your bill! So awesome!!!
