jerk chicken, coconut rice and peas, collard greens, beef patty

My fencing club buddy from East Northport has been telling me for a year to try The Foood Spot, and I finally got around it. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long. Fantastic Jamaican takeout! I ordered jerk chicken (nice and spicy, as I like it) with coconut rice and peas, collard greens on the side (they were great), plus a beef patty cuz why not. That patty was seriously amazing. The place is clean and inviting, and the person who waited on me was so friendly. Can't wait to go back and try some oxtails and more

I am pleased that I do not have to travel to BBQ (The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens) to get chef kiss Jamaican/West Indian/Soul food. The Foood Spot, which is located in Dix Hills, prepares food and drink that few Jamaican/West Indian eateries in BBQ do, such as oxtail patties, avocado slaw, scotch bonnet slaw, jerk fries, blueberry and soursop juice, coconut rice and peas, Gouda Mac and Cheese, and sliced fruit cake. The Foood Spot also sells typical West Indian/Soul food, like pork ribs, Buffalo chicken wings, candied yams and collard greens. My favorite dish is the coconut rice and peas. It is addictive! Service is quick, and staff is friendly. The downside is that there is no place to sit and eat. This is just a take out joint

I am a whole fish fan so wherever I go I search for whole fish. The Food Spot fulfilled my craving for whole fish and spicy food. The boss lady was very patient and nice over the phone with me on the veggies they cook before I placed an Uber Eats for pickup. She was even more radiant in person when I went to pickup later of the day. I absolutely LOVED my fish, cabbage and coconut pea rice. The snapper was relatively small but I did not mind that. It meant to be better portion control anyway . It had a thin layer of coating , perfectly seasoned. Inside remained moist and tender. The entire fish was NOT oily at all. The coconut rice was another supernova. Mild yet delivered what was supposed to. The Jamaca cabbages had wonderful scotch bonnet pepper flavor. The bell peppers played a great sidekick ( it was like Korean kimchi or German sauerkraut). They all danced flawlessly together!

Portions are generous. I ordered everything online for pick up. This is a take out spot hidden in a shopping center near Elwood.. kind lady came out from the back kitchen to check my order. Also, Noticed the sign at the door, they are now opened on Mondays (for dinner only) 3:30-8:30pm Didn't take a photo but my fave is the side order of vegan collard greens! It went well w the escovitch whole snapper. The only 1 mishap I ran into was that my Saltfish & Ackee Empanada was left out of the bag. I really wanted to try. I called and the lady kindly noted and I will return on my next visit to pick up. I would like to try the Thai chili shrimp and the jerk salmon next time. I'm def going back for the vegan greens! This pescatarian is grateful to be able to order the collard greens!!

It's a hit or miss there! One day they have it the next day they don't! They open at noon and you check on line and it will say sold out! They need a better way to have their food selection. Food is good, and it is pleasing to the pallet. But consistency is needed!

I love this place The food is fantastic I've tried the jerk chicken and jerk pork, both full of flavor. A tad bit dry, so I would reccomend getting a side of oxtail gravy. The lady at the counter is always super friendly and helpful. The ambiance is small but it's more of a take out spot anyways. The portion size is great for what you pay. Overall would reccomend to anyone

We are always around the neighborhood and I chosen to use Yelp to find me a place I haven't tried yet. After reading the reviews, it was enough for me to give it a shot. We showed up around 1:30 given this place opens at 1pm. It is quite a small storefront with a long table and 3-4 seats by the front window for a quick sit down and eat vibe. The place is amazingly clean and person helping us out, Trish, is absolutely fabulous. She speaks highly of their food and always is knowledgeable with the surrounding places. We ordered the large jerk chicken which comes with 2 drumsticks, 2 thighs, coconut rice, beans and sweet plantain. Trish asked if we wanted the sauce (which they use on the oxtails) over the rice and we opted for on the side. WOW that sauce is amazing and cannot be passed up. Onto the flavor profile, the jerk chicken has an intense heat, but in a very good authentic way. They were also very moist down to the last bite. A large portion for this for $17 is certainly big enough for two people. We also ordered a curry chicken patty to go and that was delish. Overall fantastic place and I would give it a strong 4 stars. We will definitely come back for sure.

At the Medford location, don't let the steam table fool you, they don't slap orders and bang them out like a fast food joint. I never had a wrong order. The Medford location has some nice tables and is great for lunch, but most people come here for carry out. I have to try their new Patchogue location where it's the opposite being a dine in spot. I can't recommend this place enough. Dining in or taking out, if you're in the mood for real homemade southern soul food, Lola's has you covered! If you're lucky, you'll rub elbows with the owner's dad in the dining room. A really wonderful guy who is so proud of his family. Make sure you say hi.

Don't let the neighborhood fool you; this is a masterclass in authentic cooking. Sandra and her husband Miguel have been running this place for over 30 years, and that level of dedication shows in every single dish. I caught Metro North from Grand Central and after the 2+ hour ride that's when I found out that they had no seating, which that is my fault for not researching. As I was waiting the gospel music was playing and it was nice. Once I got my food. I immediately gave it a try because I didn't want it cold or reheated for my review. The soul food empanadas with chicken were pretty good I would give them a solid 7 out of 10. The smothered chicken was very salty in my opinion. I would rate it a 5 out of 10, and the Mac & cheese tasted like boxed velveeta which I would rate a 4/10. I'm disappointed at how over hyped it seem. Not pictured was my order of fried fish and it was bland with no seasoning. The lemon on the side did no justice. I could've honestly caught it at a bad time because it was a Sunday and very busy, but I'm definitely not interested in going back.

Compared to other bbq in the area, I believe Brothers is a winner. The food quality is great, and techniques of prep and cooking are perfectly mastered. The brisket has a flavorful crust and it breaks apart with a fork. The baked beans have all the right stuff to make them excellent. Baked Mac and cheese is BAKED. The chicken falls off the bone and smoked perfectly. Candied yams are perfect and you can actually taste the butter that you're SUPPOSED to bake into it, (they're the only ones who make it right) in my opinion. We ordered an appetizer of "burnt bacon ends", and so much flavor, and fall apart with a fork. The cocktails were potent, so beware . Did I say enough about the food? Even the service was great.
