Tatum the bartender came over and took our order, not very friendly but it was decently busy so no biggie, she checked all of our ID's and brought over the first round of drinks. Our actual waitress then comes over and we try to order another round of drinks when she then asked if she could see our ID's to verify and we all gladly gave her the ID's and this is when things go bad. The waitress took our ID's to scan because she wasn't confident that they were real, we agreed but we look over and she's searching in a book and going online to verify if our ID's were real and at that point it had been about 10-15 minutes of her analyzing the ID's and we just told them to cancel our last round and we will just pay the bill and go because we could tell her concern wasn't to find out if they were real but to prove they were fake. Being a neighboring state to Arizona and working a bar you would assume they have experience with California ID's. After everything she tells us we can no longer be served insinuating that our ID's were fake. Not a single other table around us even got their ID checked. And as we looked around we were the only ones who were of color and no one else in that bar were being bothered with their ID's. As I asked for our ID's back and for the bill Tatum gave me plenty of attitude and didn't bother to tell our waitress our request to cancel the order and return our ID's. After everything we were told we could no longer be served because after all that time waiting her scanner randomly didn't want to work. So a bars ID scanner does not work, a light wasn't used to verify the ID and with the use of the internet and book she still couldn't verify our ID's. After everything no manager was called, no reasoning was given to us on why she thought the ID's weren't real and we were told we couldn't be there even after they had served us alcohol. So if our ID's were so suspicious why serve us the alcohol to begin with. If foul play was being done which wasn't on our end it was already done on their end.

Kind of underwhelming lol, but it did the job of attracting my party of 3 to the bar. I tried the Sweet Cheeks, which was sweet and unique and refreshingly light. The next time I stopped by was the very next day 8/23/25 for their Super Smash Bros tournament of up to 32 players, $10 buy-in, and cash prize (and other prizes for 2nd and 3rd place). There was 1 set-up with a large projector and 2 MC's. This was my first Smash tournament, but I didn't get to stay long due to work the next day, and I didn't purchase a drink. The event was very lively and crowded, and I wished I stayed longer! Will be back to participate/spectate another tournament. Overall lively dive bar that can provide a fun but chill night out! Coach House is a year-round Christmas-themed bar. Located in Old Town Scottsdale, a block or two away from Fifth Avenue, there's a parking lot that was pretty full when I arrived. If you can't find a spot, you can find some free street parking close by (max of three hours). Ambiance (4/5): A lot of holiday pop-ups these days have entrance fees and expensive holiday-themed cocktails. You'll find none of that pretentiousness here. There's no entrance fee and no elaborate cocktails. The reason to visit is the multitude of Christmas lights that adorn both the patio and the indoor area. There are also a bunch of TVs which makes it a good spot to check out the game. It's mostly a patio bar, but there is some room indoors too. As well as Golden Tee and another game. Service (4.5/5): There's a bouncer checking your ID before you come in. From there, there's a larger bar inside where you can order a drink from one of two bartenders (at least when I was there) or a smaller outdoor bar with one bartender (at least when I was there). There's a cash discount (which I always appreciate). What that means is that they don't charge you tax if you pay by cash. While the bar was busy, the bartenders working were efficient. Food (N/A): Coach House doesn't serve food but they did have a Mexican food truck posted up on the patio while I was there. I didn't have any food during my visit though. Drinks (N/A): Since The Coach House is a dive bar, expect a full bar, but don't expect fancy cocktails. Ordering simple mixed drinks or beer is the way to go. They were out of Montucky Cold Snacks so I went with a Woodchuck Cider for $6. Affordable prices in the heart of Scottsdale... I'll take that any day of the week! Speaking of Christmas miracles, while I was sipping my beer on the patio, I saw two black SUVs pull up. A group of people came out of the cars and there was one person who I immediately recognized. And the sequel to it is a bit more grown up, refined, and fun. What's to love: Same great bar food with flavorful wings, scrumptious loaded fries, and sandwiches with locally-sourced bread. But this time, with lower lights, way more space, and sports quietly streaming into the lobby. And best of all--a decent patio! This is exactly the kind of place you'll want to go to watch the game while carrying a conversation with a small group. Where you drag your friends when it's midnight and you want a reliable late-night bite. Or when you want to go out, but not anywhere too ritzy or clubby.
