We were recommend this place by a local waiter at another restaurant and we were so happy we came here. The place was completely packed on a Friday night and there was no standing room, but luckily someone gave us seats and then we were greeted by the most amazing bartender I've ever met in my life. Her name is Dee and she was phenomenal, super attentive, friendly, and outgoing, good bathrooms, plenty of parking no issues there and the armies in this place is total dive bar, but in the best way possible highly recommend come visit this spot! Cheap drinks, homeless guys trying to start problems, amazing bartenders who can hold their own in a fight, and popcorn. Don't expect top shelf here. Don't expect great clientele. Local dive bar at its finest. Rum runners has pool table, TouchTunes and strong drinks. I stopped in after some drinks at Butler's Easy and wanted to play pool. It is cut throat pool at this spot, don't play if you just want to have fun. Fish tank was very scary and when my friend wanted to add some fresh water the bartender said no. A true neighborhood dive bar where all friendly people are welcome! Great bartenders who pour a strong (and cheap) drink! $3.50-$4 for a domestic draft and $4-$5 for most cocktails. A few TV's, a pool table, and regulation sized shuffle board at your disposal. There's always free snacks available (pretzels, pork rinds, Che mix, popcorn, etc) and the crowd is always friendly to newbies... But you will become a regular in no time. They have more draft beer in the back so look up at the handles up top to see their full supply! ONLY complaint I have is I wish they had Dos Equis lager on draft. I don't want a bottle! I can get that at home! They have NO Mexican light beers on draft sadly. But Rum Runners is now my go to bar! This place has potential to be soo fun!! my best friend and I went on the night of Thanksgiving so it probably wasn't as lively as it would be on a weekend. I found it pretty awesome that the owner leaves some snacks like Chex mix, popcorn, other things like that for the customers! I read a comment about the margaritas being really good so we tried some, and the server made me a DIY peanut butter whiskey drink, which was delicious. I would have love to play some dart here, and not sure if the jukebox was working or not because we put a song in, but it never played. I would definitely come back again. read more

I'd describe Rum Runners as a neighborhood dive; they're about the dive-iest of dive bars I've been to in a long time. With wall panelling and drop ceilings that appear straight out of 1978, they spare every expense here and in such a pleasant way. They've got gold fish racing on Saturdays, a juke box on the wall, a pool table, pre-concocted rum punch and margaritas ready to pour for $5 out of a dispenser behind the bar, and complimentary snacks include things like Chex mix, PB filled pretzels, and popcorn. For the price of one $22 cocktail at a downtown bar, we were served four drinks here. This is my new favorite spot to stop in for a quick drink (that will probably turn into two)! read more

This tavern is so awesome! It's a small neighborhood bar, but they make everybody feel welcome. On Sunday they had a load of free food. But what's most cool is the goldfish races on the first and third Saturdays of the month. They are hilarious, exciting and very fun! The drinks are cheap and strong. The crowd is eclectic-ranging from young to old. The ambience is cozy and divey, but in a totally good way. Love this place! read more

Dee was incredibly rude and when I went over the tab w her or attempted to she stated " I had been drinking n she had not " ... umm yea you served me ? My SIL posted a review and the response from business just as rude - saying " our behavior " n it's 88 not 77 .. she stood outside the door with some guy yelling you are 77.... They have this Minnesota girl, Emma, working there, omg, she works weekend nights now, amazing, so beautiful, funny and friendly, you don't want to leave when she's doing her thing, plays some great music too. Friendly, local, and divey enough. Hit or miss depending on the bartender working. Crowd can look a seem rough but I've never had any issues. Cheap drinks, karaoke on Saturday nights. A little off of the beaten path in terms of going up north of Central but way less cops out that way to be honest. No food besides light bar snacks like jerky and chips. On weekend nights they may have a food truck stationed. They got a pool table that always seems to be busy. Stopped in after enjoying dinner nearby (Greektown also five stars). Rum Runners might be my new favorite bar. Cheap drinks (seriously my tab for two cocktails was $8), super friendly bartender, free snack bar, free shuffleboard and year round Christmas lights hanging up. Owner was awesome and so was the daytime bartender Amanda. Dee came on and wasn't very attentive and then when we questioned our tab she got side ways with us. Told my sister in law she was 77'd. Meaning apparently we aren't allowed in there again. Needless to say, left a bad taste in this Texas girls mouth. I'm just visiting so no still never go back. If your looking for a good dive bar this may be your place. The ceilings are low the lights are dim and they have Christmas lights running up and down the ceilings. The mugs are iced the beer is fresh. They also had free happy hour food out and many regulars. The bartender greater most people by name. I went in Wednesday and Cindy was working the bar. The way I was treated was an absolute embarrassment. She needs to retire. I cheerfully ordered a bloody mary. She never smiled nor said a word to me. She just walked away. As she was pouring my drink she asked if I wanted an olive. She brought my drink over and never said a word. A few minutes later a woman came in and ordered a glass of wine. Cindy came back with her glass and told the woman with a smile that it was ladies day and drinks were 50 cents off. I jokingly said, Hey, I'm a lady and you never told me. She just stared or glared at me for what seemed a long time then finally spoke up and said, you too will get 50 cents off. Never smiling. Full disclaimer - this place IS a dive bar. What you see is what you get. However, as far as dive bars go, it doesn't disappoint. It's cozy with an inside and outside pool table, neighborhood atmosphere and PBR on tap. My friend and I have been here a couple of times over the last few months and Karaoke night is a big hit. We didn't sing but you can't help but get caught up in the enthusiasm. Everyone on either side of the bar is friendly and makes you feel comfortable. Most recently on Friday at midnight, we sat in our vehicle while debating on going in but were glad we didn't as the parking lot was where the real action was. We were surprised to see a man escorting a woman on a leash, in full leathers, chains and fishnet, on their way in to the bar after she finished tenderly touching up his makeup(?). A little later, another couple, obviously compromised, came out and proceeded to maul each other in a way that would make angels cover their eyes, followed by her getting in her car, starting it, and then being convinced to go back into the bar and continue making (or erasing) memories. Suffice to say, if you want to let your hair down, howl at the moon or explore your inner Libertine without judgement or constraints, this may be your place. read more

The neighbors of Rum Runner's have been concerned about the dive bar's actions during this difficult time. Rum Runner's never actually closed during our state's stay at home order. Regulars in the know simply parked in back--or as I witnessed in April while leaving a store across the street-- people were parking at the QT and walking next door to the back lot. Curiosity piqued, I checked it out. Customers were just entering and exiting through the kitchen at the back of the building. They had no issue letting the public travel thru their kitchen during a contagion outbreak. They had a tent set up in the back lot, where about 8 people were gathered, most with open containers, smoking and drinking....at 9:30 a.m. on a wed. Many homeowners in the neighborhood have witnessed the same. Since reopening, they have flouted mask and social distancing requirements as ordered by the mayor of Phoenix. If you are brave enough to enter, you won't find a patron wearing a mask. Just to enter, you may have to push past 7 people smoking and an unleashed dog totally blocking the entrance. There's no way to enter the place without walking thru a dense cloud of others' exhalations. Rum Runner's opens at 6 am with free food (w/ drink purchase), so people won't have to decide between buying breakfast or staving off the shakes. The bulk of Rum Runner's clientelle are those who HAVE to drink starting in the a.m. or they go into DT's. The inside is classic dive bar. No one comes here for ambience or food. This place is for SERIOUS drinkers or those who don't mind the unpredictable behavior of the over-served crowd. They've been allowed to reopen, as technically they are a restaurant, even though food is clearly an afterthought here. I have no idea how they havent been shut back down because of their negligent virus protocols. Many people in the neighborhood have called the police about it in the last few months. Drive past on a fri or sat night, and the huddled masses, yearning to be wasted, will be spilling out into parking lot on 7th st. That said, if you have an alcohol problem and want free biscuits and gravy with your morning hair of the dog, this place has your name all over it! read more
