I am always pleased with Ruff Haus. They have very high quality products, a great space and friendly responsive people working there. The store is always clean and I can find whatever I want. I have purchased my dog's (Akita) food, Rolled leather collar, dog tags, car restraint, treats and toothpaste here. It is one of the few carriers of Innova and Evo dog food in the area. I can always count on Rich, the owner for any recommendations and my Akita loves him. I just learned that they do carry kosher dog food (I never even knew there was such of a thing) along with their other supplies and they have raw food for those who prefer it as well. Once you have been here you will cringe at the though of going to any Petsmart or Petco. I wish I lived a little closer, but it is well worth the trip to get quality food and supplies for my fine furry friend. read more

I moved in to the Albany Park neighborhood 15 months ago and as a HUGE small business supporter I felt compelled to quickly locate all new, close-to-home businesses that I'd frequent in the years to come. Ruff Haus was my closest pet supply shop so I designated it as my new favorite. I should say, I only adopted my dog Chauncey Billups Vanderhoff, this February. I finally had a reason to shop there outside my needs for my dog walking/pet sitting business, Rover-Time. Becoming a pet owner is really something. Ruff Haus has been there for us every step of the way. They got our guy on the right diet, that he loves. They helped find just the right products to improve his dental health. They found treats for us that has aided in his training and in dealing with his horrible separation anxiety. And they've found toys that stimulate our boy, excite him, and make his life that much more fun. We really can not thank them enough. I love coming in here. Each time I walk through, I'm acknowledged and thanked for stopping by. Ruff Haus has a talent for hiring fantastic folks, who know their stuff. It's good to have this place nearby. I feel so lucky! read more

Ruff Haus Pets is an awesome oasis for urban pups like mine. Athena: I mean, gosh, how lame are "the usual" walks around the neighborhood? I smell the same ol' smells, mark the same ol' spots--ooh! A squirrel?!? Meh, I chased you yesterday. Boooooorrrrrrrring. Me: Okay, we're going to go walk past You-Know-What. Athena: AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! (Jumps a vertical 5 feet in the air). Ruff Haus has it all: collars, leashes, harnesses, a thoughtful selection of squeak toys, cloth toys, pull toys, chew toys, human-grade treats (think ice cream cone cookies and faux pizza slice snacks), organic foods, cleaning supplies...and yeah, some cat stuff. Plus, for 15 bucks, you can bring in your pet, put on a full-length apron, and hose 'em down in their industrial grooming tub. Not gonna lie, it beats the mess we'd have in our bathroom (not to mention our tub drain) if we tried home-grooming. Every staff member we've encountered is super friendly and knowledgeable about the products they carry. I love local businesses that you can tell they handpick the products they choose to sell--Ruff Haus is a prime example of the neighborhood spot that cares--but don't expect Petco prices...but on the upside, don't expect Petco quality, either. How could I not be a fan? After all, every time we walk past You-Know-Where, Athena stops right in her tracks and demands we visit. If it's this easy for Mommy to make Athena happy, then by all means. read more

Nice little pet store right off of the Rockwell Brown Line stop. Seems like they have some exclusive stuff here that you can't get from the likes of Petco & PetSmart. My buddy told me I needed to get the catnip banana for my cat as it supposedly drives them wild. Not only did I get her the catnip banana, but I got her the cant anchovy as well. The anchovy was a winner but the banana has yet to receive decent attention LOL. They also seem to have healthy pet options here as well. read more

What a great shop. Rick--besides being a super hot--was so friendly and helpful. They have the full selection of all the stuff you should be feeding your babies. Switching my crew to raw this month. The selection of other goodies is creative, fun, and well-displayed. read more

I have pretty strong feelings about what I feed my cats, and I love that Ruff Haus carries the best food, including raw food! They don't normally stock the brand of litter I use (Swheat Scoop), but they will always special order it for me. Everyone who's ever helped me out there has been ultra-friendly. I usually ride my bike (which sometimes makes for an interesting ride home, depending on how much litter/food I've purchased), but the fact that the store is right off the Brown Line makes it super-convenient for me to stop by on my way home if I'm not on my bike. The only issues I've ever had were about a year ago when several times in the same week I showed up during normal business hours and no one was there. (If this happens to you, it usually means they ran down to Beans & Bagels on the corner to grab some coffee & they'll be right back.) Slightly annoying. But the owner bought me tea from Beans to make up for it ... and it hasn't happened in a long time. So 5 stars is definitely merited. read more

I have frequented this local gem for the past 12 years or so. I've always had such great friendly experiences. They offer an awesome selection of both dog and cat food. Also an awesome variety of toys, treats, the best poopy bags, and fancy leash and collar sets. I highly recommend this place. read more

I found this spot while walking my dog to explore the new neighborhood. Since it's only been about two weeks since I moved to Chicago, I didn't know many people to get recommendations for local pet shops. I typically like to support local shops and avoid large chains stores if at all possible. Just on a quick glance, it looks like they have a decent selection of toys and other items. They did not have Holistic Select but the dude there was helpful and made several other suggestions. I ended up opting for Fromm which I have heard of in the past. He gave me free samples to try to see if my pup would like the food. He's really not a picky eater......needless to say, he loved it. I went back the following day and bought the 4lb. sack. I'll be coming back for sure for some winter coats and boots for my dog (which by the way, he took time to measure my pup's paws to figure out the size). I'm sure he's going to need it for sure for his first real winter!!! read more

Love this store!!! Have everything I need and service is top notch!!!! Staff is extremely knowledgeable about the products they carry and can trouble shoot any of my pets needs. What a nice neighborhood pet shop!!! read more

Love this store. The only hard part about living by this place is the look of disappointment on my dog's face when we walk by after hours. It is truly heartbreaking. Otherwise, the place is fabulous. I've always gotten great help from the owner and the workers. The store cat Spot is super friendly too, even to intrusive dogs. They have a wide range of products but the prices can require some navigation. I have found that their food items are normally reasonable, especially for the better quality you are getting, but the occasional cat or dog toy is just a bit overpriced. Still this is a great store. My dog and I go there regularly and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I live right around the block from this store and decided to check it out after running out of dog food. The girl who helped me cared a great deal about showing me which dog foods were better than others and sent me home with a bag full of samples. I was pleasantly surprised with how down to earth and nice everyone was and that they truly care about the diet and health of dogs by only carrying all natural real dog food. I am only shopping here from now on. read more

I like living so close to such a cute shop. I love all the random pet themed memorabilia on the walls. They carry all the good stuff that you know if you buy a bone for the pups on your way out, it's good stuff. Also, with experience from working in the pet industry, their prices could be higher but they aren't! Which makes me quite the loyal fan. :) read more

This is out of my way - but it used to be the only place to get my cat's food. Since the recall, it is much easier to find...sadly. They carry a fine selection of foods, including pre-packaged raw. The owner is very nice, very knowledgeable and the store does have an exceptional comfort vibe. read more

Need a crate, Iams or cheap toys stay away from Ruff Haus as they can't help you. Need a great selection of food your dog should be eating, great products at reasonable prices and an owner who actually cares about his business then Ruff Haus is the place. Great to see someone really love what they do. read more

I've passed by this place on occasion, but never checked it out. Finally, one day I did - and I was glad! It's a cute little shop, and they have a good selection of all-natural food for pets. I went in there looking for a replacement food for the Purina stuff my cat was getting. I had a picture of the package, and I showed it to the girl who was working that day and asked if they had anything similar. She directed me to try PureVita, and said I could exchange it with the receipt if the cat didn't like it. Turns out, he did! Plus, it strongly resembles the food he had before; he's picky. She also recommended some good wet food as well. Any other time I've stopped in, I'm always greeted warmly, and the staff, from what I've encountered thus far, are friendly and helpful. All in all, great place - I highly recommend them :) read more

We stopped in here after the vet. We go to the Royal Treatment, which is a more natural pro raw kind of place and I asked what stores near by they would recommend. This was the closest and I'm so happy we stopped in! They have a huge selection of chews and food. We picked up some fluff and tuff toys (the only brand that doesn't get destroyed in 5 min in our house) that the natural pet supply stores by us don't have. Also got a head collar and the girl working helped make sure it was big enough for my big guy who's a Great Dane. Awesome spot great staff. Highly recommend read more

I first visited here about 7 years ago when I adopted my first pitbull. I was unsure what to feed him, and the owner was there and gave me lots of advice and samples. He was extremely friendly. I bought my dog a collar here, and came back several times over the years for treats and food. We now have another puppy and she needed a collar, so I made the special trip to go here to get it. Two girls were working and they did nothing but DOTE and love on my little puppy. Everyone is always so friendly and warm here. Its one of the best dog shops in chicago, as far as variety of what they carry, knowledge of the staff, and just overall good conversation. so happy this place is still around and doing strong! read more

Excellent customer service. Generally overpriced by 2 - 25 percent on everything in the store. Very nice owner man. Proximity to the availability of a terrific cup of joe makes it a 4 star stop for me. read more

Located right by the Rockwell Brown line and the late(ish) hours makes this a super convenient spot for me to come and grab dog food in my way home. They carry Fromms, and also a ton of treats. My favorite is their selection of Chicago sports shirts for dogs. Let's just say the Blackhawks tended to win games when Ginger was wearing her little shirt. read more

Nice little neighborhood pet store that sells a lot of specialty foods and offers grooming. Staff is friendly, and there is a range of different organic and "raw" type foods, higher end dog foods and a lot of neat little toys, treats and accessories. Since it is a pet boutique the prices are a bit on the higher side, but no more than any other specialty pet store I have been to. Nice little place in a nice little neighborhood. read more

I love this store. It's probably my favorite pet store/boutique that I've found in the city. We stop in frequently with our dogs, and Rich is always very helpful and friendly. It's always clean and had a really cool vibe. If they don't have something, it can always be ordered. We will definitely be regulars of Ruff Haus. read more

Thank you for informing us that EVO was recently purchased by Proctor and Gamble the Animal Testing Monster Corporation. This is exactly why I LOVE Ruff Haus they truly care about their reputation of selling quality holistic products, and the animals they serve not simply the result of profit. Thank You Ruff Haus:) read more

I purchase cat food from here on a regular basis. I always get good customer service. I returned some food that my cat decided that she didn't like (surprise, surprise) and they honored their return policy. They also are happy to offer recommendations and insight about each product that they carry. Street parking is usually available, but you have to look around. Their hours are convenient. The workers seem like they like what they do, so that's always a plus. I will continue to drive all the way from Belmont-Cragin because I feel like it's worth the trip. read more

Very knowledgeable, friendly staff with a good selection of higher-quality products. I agree with the other reviewers that Ruff Haus is a little bit dog-centric, but they're no slouches in the cat department when it comes to the essentials. I can't say I've ever really missed that experience of feeling like you're buried in all the latest gee-whiz As-Seen-on-TV litterboxes and scratching posts every time I go to pick up cat food since I started shopping at Ruff Haus, anyway. read more

We just walked out of the store and I had to write a review for the great service and kind help! Ryan helped us for about 15 minutes, answering tons of questions about the different food options for our newly adopted dog. He was knowledgeable and friendly with us and super sweet to our pup. When we mentioned her aversion to treats and hard kibble he voluntarily peeked at her teeth and offered her a freeze-dried treat that she loved! We appreciated his time, patience, and attention. They also have a great policy--all food is guaranteed! If Greta doesn't like the food we chose we can bring it back. And they have "buy 12 get the 13th free" programs with their food, too. So glad to support a local business that will help us do right by our new girl. read more

The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable about all the products he sells. He introduced me to some locally made food that our picky dog loved! I have stopped by on other occasions for treats, doggy toothpaste etc. My experience has been positive each time and i will keep going back. read more

Ruff Haus basically helped me set up my entire place for the arrival of my (then) puppy. We spent many afternoons over there hanging out. Rich, the owner, is a super cool guy and knows a ton about dogs, the kind of food they should eat, general grooming etc.. Speaking of grooming, Michelle, his groomer is a veritable dog whisperer. I lived around the corner from them for the first year and a half of my dog's life and I have to say, a lot of my doggie knowledge came from my first few months going to Ruff Haus and just hanging out. Plus, if you are super cool like me, maybe Rich will let you have a beer with him after they close...but don't quote me on that. read more

Ruff Haus really is the place for "hip dogs and cool cats". While they're not as cheap as some of the bigger brick & mortar pet stores, they definitely have a higher quality line of products that includes anything from pet coats and footwear to food. The other day I was able to score a few RC Pet dog coats (30% with their current winter sale) that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Our dog is not only warmer during her walks, but I'd like to think she has a little extra swagger in her step with her fancy new gear. The workers are always very nice and helpful, and you can tell they really care about your pet's well being. They were even kind enough to give our new pup a little treat even though she was a little anxious and barky. If you're ever by the Rockwell Brown Line stop then Ruff Haus is definitely worth checking out. read more

I love Ruff Haus. This is a small-ish pet supply store. The owner is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They carry a lot of high-quality dog and cat food, as well as toys and supplies. Prices on the toys, treats, and supplies are on the high side, but I'm willing to pay it for two reasons: first, I know they carry high quality stuff. I could save money by going to one of the pet megamarts, but then I really have to know which products are good and which are not. Second, the shopping experience is much more pleasant than at those mega marts. read more

I love Ruff Haus. My dog is allergic wheat (which is apparently quite common). Our vet prescribed special "vet" dog food, which we dutifully paid excessive amounts of money for every month and a half, and which we couldn't purchase anywhere but the vet's office. Then we wandered into Ruff Haus. The staff member working was so friendly and helpful, and led me to a huge selection of wheat-free dog foods--all made from meat and vegetables in a combination that is supposed to more closely track a dog's natural diet, and most made from organic/sustainably raised ingredients. It took several different trips to find a brand and type of food that my dog liked as much as the vet food (which seems really weird to me, as my dog seems to want to eat every gross thing he finds outside on our walks), but eventually we found an awesome brand, made in Wisconsin (whoo hoo), that Mork the dog loves. BONUS: It costs less than half the price of vet brand! Each time I went back, staff at Ruff Haus were extremely friendly, patient, and helpful. They know so much about doggie allergies, and about the products they sell. They even gave me free sample bags of food several times so I could see if the suddenly picky little fuzzbot liked them before committing to an entire 30 lb bag. I now exclusively shop at Ruff Haus for all our pet food, treat, and toy needs. I highly recommend the place for really high quality products, service, and overall super cute and friendly vibe. read more
