I had a grooming appointment for my dog scheduled three weeks in advance for Saturday at 10 AM with Nora. At 9:15 AM on the day of the appointment, they called to inform me that Nora had called out, so my appointment had to be rescheduled. While I understood these things happen, they rescheduled me for the next day at 2:30 PM without informing me it would be with a different groomer. When I checked my dog in with the new groomer, Austin, everything seemed fine initially. However, I received a call ONE HOUR LATER saying my dog was "ready for pickup." The person on the phone started rambling about how my dog's tongue was cut and bleeding, repeatedly referring to my dog as a "he," which made me question if they had the right client. I asked if my dog was okay, and he assured me she was fine but said it was policy to discontinue services. This wasn't true because a previous groomer had nicked her ear, yet her haircut was still completed. I asked if the haircut was half-finished, and he confirmed it was. When I asked what I should do, he suggested rebooking for another time. Upon arrival, I saw my dog's nose had been shaved down to the skin. When I asked Austin why, he said he didn't finish the face and then walked away. Since then, my dog has been rubbing her face a lot due to the irritation from being shaved bald. The person at the front desk suggested booking for the following week, but I explained we were leaving for vacation, which is why I had booked the original appointment. They then rebooked for Monday. My fiancé had to take the morning off from work to get her finished, which only took 30 minutes because she was nearly done when Austin discontinued the service, apparently because he isn't used to dogs that lick. When my fiancé asked if we would be charged full price, given the rescheduling, the time off work, and the inconvenience of picking her up in the pouring rain one hour after dropping her off, and the groomer cutting her tongue, the groomer said yes and charged him the full $85. Antoinette did a great job finishing up her haircut, but she couldn't fix her nose that was shaved so close by Austin. read more

I was going to wait to make my review but I have had multiple encounters with this location that have left me cringing. First issue was while I'm picking up an online order for my mother, whom I am authorized pick up for I was asked for ID and then almost denied my product because their system didn't show that I was on the pick up but I had the email showing I was the pick up person! Second encounter, I placed an online order while I toy deal was going on. I call to extend my pick up due to an emergency, was on hold for 20 mins. And, couldn't get through. I call to confirm if my order was still available and they put my product back and couldn't honor the deal. Definitely not my favorite location. Rosie is absolutely incredible, she has been so helpful and patient with me as I welcome home my new kittens. Rosie informed me that the kitten I was interested in had a brother that was also in need of a home. I didn't think I would leave with two cats but I am more than elated that I did. I made an appointment to have my dogs nails trimmed. When I got there, they asked me if my dog could walk and I said not very well, but she is wobbly. They didn't like the sound of that. Then they asked me if she had any heart murmurs, and I said yes, she had a grade 4. Then they said if she can't walk and has a heart murmur, we can't Help you. Why didn't they ask me this before I walked there with her? They never used to ask this. My dog is on heart medication. She's never had a medical emergency for her heart. Just upsetting that they don't ask prior to you walking there. I won't spend any money there. read more

Everyone at this PetSmart is really friendly and helpful. This is a big store with a lot of inventory. Tons of choices when it comes to cat toys, cat trees, litter, and treats. They have an entire aisle of collars, and as you can see from my photo, a really impressive doggy dental care section. I also thought it was nice they have little clean-up stations for dogs, inside and outside with poop bags and a place to dispose of them. Honestly, I wish the city had those on every block lol. They do have cat adoption kennels here, but I have yet to see any cats in them. Overall, this is a great place with friendly service and plenty to choose from. So glad we found this place! Our rescue Shadow hates baths and is terrified of having her nails done, so my wife and I have tried for years to find a place that she feels comfortable with. Catherine is so patient and good with her that she gets them done every time, and she always enjoys getting pets and treats from the rest of the groomers. The store itself is great if you're looking for something basic like food, but the small size means they don't have as big of a selection as the larger Petsmarts. read more

I've been sending my Pom over for times. I usually stick with Jenna all the time. Since she's from another location which is a bit far away from my house, I decided to give another groomer a try. Now I regret my decision. When I was discussing with Lorena, I asked her to cut my pom not too short as I don't want to damage his coat since the coat is still growing. I also know that my pom is a bit energetic which can't stand for a long time. However, he had done well with Jenna. After I picked my pom up, his coat is totally short. It's almost close to his skin which is not good. I can clearly see his skin in some spots. The work also was not smooth. She might forget to cut my pom's nails. I'm wondering if it doesn't include in the Haircut package since Jenna always cut the nails. I'm so disappointed and regret that I couldn't send my pom to Jenna. read more

I brought my pom in because i thought it might be a bit less expensive. Never again! The groomer recommended the Fur-minator which almost left poor Leo shaved. She cut off alot of the long hair and you can see his skin in many places, but it's completely uneven. I went online and found out that was completely not the way to groom them, and it will be very hard to get his hair to grow back. Add to that, i was charged $100. Ridiculous.. read more

We recently moved from out of state with our puppers and he was in desperate need of a grooming appointment. We were really short on time so we were lucky to find a PetSmart nearby that had his information on file from our previous experience with them. Our groomer was super friendly and took great care of our dog which meant a lot to us because our dog gets pretty anxious when it comes to baths. He came back to us clean, nails actually trimmed properly, with a cute bandana around his neck. The app was handy that we were able to pay before we picked him up so it was a quick transaction in and out. read more

This review is just for customer service as I've never used their grooming services here. Every employee I have interacted with at this petsmart has been so nice and helpful. One person helped me find the right size floatation device for my dog and really took the time to help me with the fit. Every cashier is always so nice and my puppy loves to run around to their side and sit with them - no matter who it is! It's not the biggest petsmart so their selection is slightly more limited but I think that's just because of size. read more

This petsmart is small. Does not have a Banfield pet hospital inside. However, what it does have is an awesome groomer by the name of Crystal. She is great at her job and in high demand. We had to book two weeks out and still got an odd time slot. We took it, because she is wonderful with our Shih Tzu who is a rescue and still very scared all the time. I've been too at least three different Petsmart's in Chicago, but now that we found Crystal, our dog only gets groomed by her. We just go to Banfield at another location. read more

Usually like shopping here. Thought I would try out the grooming since we live so close, went to do a nail trim/ear cleaning/teeth brush. We all arrive there and there is already confusion with a scheduling issue but... I'm thinking okay whatever, mistakes happen. Both of my dogs go in one at a time, and after it's al done they look fine, we pay and leave. We go into the car.. and notice blood all over the seat! One of my dogs nail was bleeding horribly. I mean blood everywhere and we tried to stop it in the car but it wouldn't stop. So obviously I go back inside, and Amanda (very sweet, she wasn't my groomer), seems very concerned and very fast to help, she helps out by cleaning and stopping the bleeding. We had to keep an eye on it all night, though and keep a sock on it to avoid blood on our floor. All in all, awful experience, we will definitely never return for grooming and probably not even for shopping either. Really a shame because it's so close to our apartment read more

I scheduled an appointment with this Petsmart location to groom my shih tzu on a sat morning at 10:30am. I prechecked in from my phone two days early. I was there on time. Two dogs preceded me in line, a standard poodle and a golden labradoodle puppy. I called to check on her progress at about 1:30pm and was on hold for 5min to be told that my pup was being groomed as we speak and that she would be ready in an hr or hr&ahalf. I proceed to get starter locs for myself plus I sat under the dryer for a half hour to still not receive a call of her grooming having been completed. I decided to go pick her up immediately. She was shaking when she came in and was handled by the groomer a little more aggressive than I would've expected. Like she tried to pull the hair of Xena's chin to get her to show teeth and open her mouth for a peek. More so Xena is not crate trained. She only has been in a crate at petsmart and or bansfields vet. She was still crated when I picked her up at 3:30pm and was shaking when she was returned to me. I almost had to go back there and get her myself because they were even dragging ass in returning her to me. Like what are they doing back there. Picking the dog who cries the least to go next? They asked for another 30 mins to groom her, I refused and told them to bring her immediately. They moved slow and poked around in the computer for a few minutes until police involvement was threatened in efforts of getting my pup back. Anywho I would give 0 stars because of the grooming experience. I received an apology from 1 mature worker. The others acted very immaturely in this situation. I will never use this service again. I booked with a groomer at Paradise Pet Salon. It's not far from this location and the service is excellent. Plus no crates and no extra fees. She was done in an hr & smelled wonderful. read more

Came in here to get some CBD oil for my cat. She needs to be stoned on airplanes because she is terrified of flying because I have told her too many scary stories about plane crashes. The man at the register asked if I had a dog and I said no. He did not ask any more questions but he stared at me like I was a criminal. Perhaps he thought I was taking the CBD for myself. The truth is, I absolutely did. But it cannot get you high, it can only help with your creaking damaged ribs. They swing around and make a sound like an old barn door. I have been keeping and maintaining my own aquariums for 40 years. Today I was told by the very young employee that she wasn't comfortable selling me the fish that I requested based on whatever assumptions she made about me. I have never experienced this at any store before and it was very annoying that this person presumed anything about me or my knowledge about keeping an aquarium. read more

This location just opened and I called to see if they would be so kind as to bring my online-store pickup order out to my car and they said no problem. With the Asian strain of the dog flu causing an epidemic in the Chicagoland area, ensuring your pets don't get exposed to this nasty this is key. It's airborn and can live on clothes for 24 hours/surfaces for 48 (think shoes!) so by limiting my exposure to a place with so many dogs going through it each day was incredibly helpful. I did bleach wipe down all items as well before bringing them in my house too. There is no vaccine for this strain so prevention is all you can really do. Since getting our dog a year ago, we've bought most of our supplies here and have never had a problem or complaint. But the best thing this store has going for it is their groomer Becky. She's experienced, has a great professional attitude and obviously enjoys her work. Six weeks later, people still stop us on our walks to meet and pet the double coat mutt while remarking how beautiful she looks and how soft her fur feels. Thanks Becky! read more

Open for only about a week, this new Petsmart store, located in a recently-built strip mall on Broadway just north of Foster Avenue, is still neat, clean and well-stocked. If you're expecting the typical gigantic Petsmart store you're used to seeing, think again. This is Petsmart on an urban scale, without a lot of the doggie whistles and kitty bells you may be used to seeing. When you enter, you'll see about three short aisles to your left, and a few aquariums. That's all you get for birds, small mammals (think hamsters and gerbils), fish, and all the creepy-crawly snakes and spiders that the Petsmart on Elston Avenue carries. I don't buy any of that stuff, and when visiting the Elston location, I keep my eyes averted and focused forward on my way to the cat section. So if you're like me and want to avoid the reptiles and creepy-crawlies and pet bugs, this is your kind of store. If you idea of a pet features scales instead of fur, you'll probably find only the most common items here. Not much of a selection. For us regular folks who prefer feline or canine companions, you'll find the typical broad selection you expect from Petsmart. As you enter the store, you'll see all the aisles off to the right featuring items for Mr. Fido and Miss Kitty. I had no trouble finding the cat food I wanted. Although I personally do not buy doggie items, I'm confident in assuring you dog owners that you'll find the supplies you need here. This store does not do any kind of behavior training, and it does not have a Pet Hotel. You'll still need to go to the Elston location for that. In summary: good for dog and cat owners, not so great for owners of any other kind of animal companion. Since this is located in a new strip mall, there is plenty of parking. Yay! read more

I went to get some crickets for my Bearded Dragon and more than 50% of the crickets were dead. I honestly didn't notice till I got home. That leads me to believe something was wrong with the crickets. So, I ended up throwing them all away. And I will never return to this petsmart. It's bad enough that happened, the customer service the woman gave left something to be desired. She was opening a new box of crickets to give me and left without saying a word to help another customer. It was a really bad experience and I hope no one has to go through this. Its been reported to yelp and if Pet smart doesn't help me from being harassed by their employee I will have to seek an attorney. Think this will make an interesting and helpful review. In all my life I've never had trouble with petsmart until now. So a few weeks ago I walked in hoping they might have some ferrets or cute critters to look at. Instead I was greeted by a couple who had rescued an injured sparrow falcon and looked lost by what to do. They couldn't speak English well, but was hoping if anyone could help them with the bird. At this point I noticed the petsmart staff were not doing anything to help this poor bird or couple. So I jumped in to do what I can. I had the day off, and experience thanks to my vet tech sister, and took over for them. I called a local bird rescue volunteer group and was told it could take a while to arrive. During this wait was hell. There was another lady (crazy? Senile?) who kept trying to intervene to help the bird by spraying water at its face while I was holding it. I told her I'm trained and she was only aggravating the wild falcon. She went totally off on me (keep in mind, she may have had mental issues) and started trying to make a scene and pointlessly fight! During this time, the petsmart worker didn't try to stop her and instead, asked me if he can hold the stressed out bird like taking turns holding a puppy! Unbelievable? No, it gets worse. Rain started to fall. The manager showed up and told me there was a NO BIRD policy at their store so I had to leave..... could not believe my ears. But sure enough I noticed they barely had any pets at the store itself--- I was so lost. Then to my luck; these two wonderful ladies came by (a dog rescue volunteer) who saw I needed help. She told the manager to let me stay and at least keep the falcon in the office since I already called the rescue. As for the crazy lady, her friend helped fending her off of me. The manger barely did anything to help. Only to tell me that I'll have to do something about the falcon in the office. Seriously what heartless people work here!? Step up your game, petsmart!!! While the wonderful dog volunteer lady called her friends to see if they can drive by with an extra cage (since manager was adamant about kicking us out) the bird rescue I called finally arrived!! All in all, it was a great experience to be able to meet some great folks and save a wild bird in the end. As for the overall petsmart experience... WOW. Just WOW. I applaud you so called animal lovers!! You know, I used to apply to many petsmarts and never got too far. I guess you need connections like my friend said or be a huge inconsiderate *****!! Thanks for opening my eyes now petsmart! For those who care about animals, don't bring the wild ones here even when it rains. Like in my experience, they'll kick you out.
