I rarely leave reviews, but I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at Howlistic Grooming. This was my dog's second visit, and before leaving him, they specifically asked if he would be receiving the same haircut as last time. I said yes and confidently left, expecting consistency with the previous groom. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. They cut my dog's hair extremely low and completely ignored the previous grooming guidelines. When I expressed my concerns, the groomer responded by saying When I expressed my concerns, the groomer responded by saying she had "shaved his nails for free," which she said is normally a $10 add-on. I explained that it still didn't address the issue at hand and that it should have either been communicated or charged properly as an add-on if that was the case, because it didn't resolve my concern about the haircut. I was told there was "nothing they could do" and that "for future reference" I should bring a photo. I didn't think a photo was necessary for a repeat appointment when the staff made it seem like they already understood what was expected based on his last service. The manager called the next day, listened to everything that happened, and ultimately only reiterated that they do not offer refunds or discounts. No apology, no empathy, and no accountability for the poor experience. The only response I kept hearing was "for future reference." To make matters worse, my dog's ears were cut so short that he barely even looks like he has ears anymore. The haircut looks nothing like the previous groom, and it's honestly upsetting to look at. Since the appointment, he hasn't even seemed like his usual energetic self. I trusted this salon to care for him properly, and instead I left feeling dismissed and deeply disappointed. A total waste of $80 and a tip. PHOTOS BELOW: As you can see in the attached photos, his beautiful black coat was shaved down entirely too close, leaving his face and ears completely bare. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! The last time I took my 4 yr old Yorkie here, she came home limping. She wasn't able to run or play for 2 weeks. I called to inform the manager, and the manager's response to this was deciding that my dog could not come back. Worst experience I've ever had with a groomer! read more

I'm so happy I found this grooming salon!! We have a Samoyed dog and we were nervous when searching for a groomer that would be able to grooming him properly. Well after reading the reviews we decided to try this place and he came out better than we anticipated! Upon entering, the staff were very welcoming and friendly! They made sure to ask all the questions to ensure they knew exactly what we wanted. The staff is very gentle with him and he is excited to go to his appointments each time! They keep you updated via text so you know when to expect your pup to be ready! This place is wonderful and I'm always so happy after each visit! BEWARE PET PARENTS. My fiancé brought our dog here to get groomed and our sweet Cookie came back home with fresh scabs on her nipples and a cut on her foot. Two of her nipples are completely shaved off. She has been licking her tummy and shaking for the past 6 hours I am beyond mad that they would do this to my sweet 15 year old pup. Also, they didn't even tell us that they cut her seven times, so they either didn't notice or thought that it wasn't important enough to mention. Also, when my fiancé was picking up Cookie, there was another dog left completely unattended tied up to the grooming table for at least 5 minutes. Abusive and negligent all around. read more

We came here the first time last month because our cavapoo desperately needed a cut before she went in for her surgery. I was thrilled that Howlistic Grooming had availability and had such stellar reviews. With the large number of dogs in the area, it's a relief knowing we can book here less than a month in advance. They did a great job taking care of our pup, and she was in a happy mood when we picked her up! We've been back again now for a bath and she is in looks fantastic and smells great! Definitely recommend checking them out! read more

Nice haircut on my dog. Sunday just had one person. I was nervous when they didn't answer the door.

So I was looking for my pups first grooming. We tried a big chain but he was too young so they wouldn't cut his hair only gave him a bath, understand. But when I took him to the big chain he was shaking so hard and so scared when I picked him up. So I said we'd try Howlistic Grooming. And wow I'm impressed! He wasn't shaking super hard nor running out the door. And he's so handsome! And he smells clean and I know he feels good. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for four years and they always do an excellent job. On my most recent visit today, I noticed my dog's front right paw was nicked from the black padding area. I didn't notice this until after I got home and found blood on my arms. I understand that mistakes happen and my dog can be wiggly, but, please please don't be afraid to tell me up front in-person when I pick up my dog. It shocked me a little and I had to run to the pet store to grab some medical tape as she kept leaving blood around the house. read more

This used to be a great place. My dog has gone here for over 12 years. However , management has changed. My dog has gotten the wrong haircut more than once. The owner always fixes any issues and is very nice and kind. However the new manager who has been there for 7 years has not customer service skills whatsoever. If you are 15 mins late and there is a car crash your appointment will be cancelled. They have posted $20 late fee and I was only 16 mins late. I was fine with paying the late fee but the manager became very rude and condescending to me Previously she personally gave my dog the wrong haircut after I told her to look at his file and that is not the haircut he gets. I became frustrated and asked for the owner. The owner told me to reschedule. The manager told me we will no longer service your dog because you argued with me. Really ?? There needs to be some training read more

My dog.. has a bit .. of a temperament problem, because he just doesn't like to get groomed. But being a Shih Tzu he needs it! Every time I brought it to a groomers attention, they declined to take him. BUT NOT HOWLISTIC GROOMING! Not only did they take him, they groomed him better than I've ever seen in his 12 years. I mean look at that face!! Guess we found his new groomer for life! read more

Our puppy is 10 months and her first grooming attempt at a different unrelated location was a disaster. I asked around at the dog park and Howlistic was recommended by a few pawparents there. We love this place. They are professional, it's very clean, and our doggo comes home looking so fresh, fluffy and clean! Howlistic offers free nail trimmings to clients between cuts which is awesome. They use natural products including tea tree oil to clean their client's ears. While tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties, it also seems to have a calming effect on my dog - he always comes home really chill and I can tell it's from the residual tea tree oil (which also smells great). The owner is a true professional and has a long history of not only pet grooming, but business ownership. It seems like most of their clients are small dogs, but our pup is 60+ lbs, and they do great work with him. He is also 11 years old and has hip issues which I tend to worry about when bringing him places like this, but I never hesitate to leave him with Howlistic. Definitely recommend to dog parents! read more

When we arrived they greeted us with absolutely no energy or personality. Fine, at the end of the day I don't expect a red carpet from everyone for my dog. Not going to complain about that. I looked in the back to watch other dogs getting groomed, while they checked mine in. I saw a woman cutting a dog's hair with a pair of scissors, around its head / eyes mind you, while talking on the phone. Not with a pair of headphones or on speaker. No, with the phone balanced between her head and shoulder. Again, while actively cutting a dog's hair around their head and eyes. To me, that just wasn't professional and or safe. I told the woman in the front that I didn't feel comfortable with this appointment and that my dog seemed nervous. She then said the manager had to come, because they don't allow cancelations with less than 24 hours notice. I then pointed out the woman cutting the dog's hair with a pair of scissors and asked if she thought that was appropriate or professional while balancing a phone between her head and shoulder. She then rudely thanked us for coming in, then pointed at the door for us to leave. read more

Dog grooming can sometimes be uncomfortable. Millennials these days are overly obsessed with their fur babies (guilty!) and you never know what's going on behind closed doors (my babies haven't quite mastered enunciating the English language quite yet)! I've been coming here for years, and I'm thrilled to see the place grow (although getting an appointment isn't as easy anymore!) The owner still knows me by name. You can just tell by the vibe of this place that your little furry ones are treated with LOVE! I would never go anywhere else! read more

We tried Howlistic Grooming for the first time and could not be happier with the results! The staff was incredibly friendly and made me feel safe leaving my pup with them. This is by far the best cut he has had! Theo is very hyper and probably not the easiest dog the groom, so we really appreciate how amazing of a job they did. Plus, he gets ready bad tear stains (any white dog owners understand that struggle) and they did such a great job cleaning up his face. Highly recommend!!! read more

I'm very upset with the condition my little guy was left in... the Groomer did not follow what I specifically asked for... When I expressed my unhappiness with how the grooming was I was told that "this is my interpretation of what looks good & balanced". Even after I expressed my unhappiness I was not even offered an apology.. For and service cost of over 100 bucks I expect more. I ask for head and tail kept long with the body shorter... My dog had skin and hair issues and what this groomer has done exacerbates these issues and will take a long time to clear up again.... All I can say is be very careful with this groomer and what you ask for. read more

Definitely a decline in customer service and quality of grooming. I struggled to write this update as opposed to just deleting my 5 star recommendation. I specifically asked that Anderson groom my girls as I brought them to him consistently (for over a year) several years ago. But the most recent groom looked like any basic unskilled groom with my dogs' hair cut lopsided and not what I asked for. Definitely not worth the enormous increase in cost either. read more

This was Coco's first mini grooming session. They cleaned her ears, trimmed her nails, backside, and the hair by her eyes. They recommended combing her out rather than trimming her body since her baby fur will come out and some point so they combed her very very well. She came out super happy and fluffy. It took 3 hours for this session but there were no signs of distress when we picked her up because they really wanted to take their time with her. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

Wow. This might just be the craziest experience ever for me. The older lady at the front desk was very nice as well as the female Hispanic groomer with long black wavy hair. Until I came to pick up my pup.... I dropped him off at 12:45. The lady told me because they close at 4pm to be there by 4pm to pick him up and he would be ready. I arrived at 3:52 pm. My dog was not ready... the Hispanic groomer for some reason has an attitude because I was told to come back at 4. Apparently I am "supposed" to know it takes 4-5 hours for my dog to be groomed. Well when I'm told what time to pick up my dog. That's when I'll be there. She then proceeded to tell me it would be another 30 min. I would not have had an issue with that except for the fact that I paid for an Uber there and back and Uber's do not wait. $40 wasted. So the groomer asks do I just want to take my dog how he is. Half cut. I said sure but I'm not paying full price for a half cut. She rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed. As I called another Uber and was waiting in the waiting area, I guess they must've thought I was gone so they decided to talk shit. Saying "we don't need her", "she doesn't ever have to come back", etc etc. So to her surprise when I turned the corner and said "thank you I won't be back. This is horrible customer service. You have an attitude because I was told a time to come get my dog and YOU don't have him ready". Then she proceeded to go back and forth with me saying she does not care if I leave a bad yelp review and that they just told R. Kelly's lawyer to "fuck off". She literally said this to me. So I'm appalled. As you may have noticed I didn't get her name because she refused to give it to me when I asked. It's sad. The half cut that she did do was a good though. I understand people have bad days but lady that's totally inappropriate to be working in a customer service field. read more

I took my 4 month old puppy in for his first haircut last weekend, and Howlistic did an amazing job. He got a bath and a "tidy up," which includes a sanitary clip and trimming the hair around his face, paws, and between his paw pads. He did not get a full body haircut because his adult coat has not grown in yet, so the groomer recommended waiting. (See, I really appreciate that-- a groomer who gives good advice about what's best for the dog, as opposed to just trying to make money off of me.) My puppy looked completely transformed for the better: he smelled so fresh, had super soft fluffy fur, and finally got all of that hair out of his eyes! Best of all, he seemed happy when I picked him up. Also, the price was very reasonable, normally $45, but they gave me a $10 off discount for being a new customer. I've already made his next appointment for about a month from now. Thanks so much, Howlistic! read more

Best grooming in Chicago! We were visiting and they took such good care of my girls. After having a great dog groomer in California, I struggled to find a dog groomer out here in Chicago that did comparable work. And I tried a few of the highest rated ones in the city. I'm admittedly really bad about brushing my dog regularly. But when I ask for a bath, good brush out, sanitary trim, and paw fur to be trimmed and nails cut, they always seem to do a great job de-matting the problem areas without having to cut out chunks of fur. In the past I've also had trouble with groomers wanting to do haircuts or changes I didn't request, but since my dog has a double coat I know it's preferable to keep it in tact and I've never been surprised by anything when I pick him up. He always smells great, looks cute, and is fluffy and clean! Plus, the prices are super reasonable. read more

So excited to find a new grooming place for my Samoyed!! We recently moved from vernon hills area and been looking for a place, a better one. I read really positive reviews on Yelp before I decided to book, but I still unsure. Many places do good job with smaller dogs, larger dogs with short hair etc, but when it comes to a samoyed or any other breeds with lots of fur coat to work with, its always disappointing or way too expensive! But howlistic was really affordable and they did an AMAZING job. When I went back to pick up my dog, he was sooo fluffy, clean, and the trim was perfect. Great availability--fairly easy to get an appointment. Great small, family-owned business. Every encounter I've had with the staff has been pleasant, including my first visit. A warm lady with a British accent happily greeted me and engaged me in conversation. For the most part, I've always been happy with my dog's cuts from there. Recently, when I wasn't, Howlistic wasn't flippant nor dismissive of my concerns. I recently gave them another chance and I love my dog's groom this time. They specialize in cutting doodles, but groom all kinds of dogs. What I love most about them, is they try their best not to just shave your dog--no matter how matted s/he may be. I've had experiences with another popular chain that specializes in Doodles where my dog has been shaved down twice. Howlistic won't do that--unless you request it. read more

First off, I'm not somebody who posts on Yelp often. If I'm posting, it's because I had an extreme experience and really want to share my opinion. I'm also not a crazy owner, so I wonder what a more emotional owner would have done in my position (described below) Had been here a few times before and were content until today, when our groomer cut our dog quite deeply. They never told us about it, neither when they called nor when we picked him up. After we noticed, I called to ask what happened and how to the manage the cut. I was quite calm about it. To put the the cherry of ineptitude on top, I received an entirely rude and aggressive manager who turned out to be the owner of the business (or at least claimed he was). read more
