BEWARE PET PARENTS. My fiancé brought our dog here to get groomed and our sweet Cookie came back home with fresh scabs on her nipples and a cut on her foot. Two of her nipples are completely shaved off. She has been licking her tummy and shaking for the past 6 hours I am beyond mad that they would do this to my sweet 15 year old pup. Also, they didn't even tell us that they cut her seven times, so they either didn't notice or thought that it wasn't important enough to mention. I have been bringing my dog here for four years and they always do an excellent job. On my most recent visit today, I noticed my dog's front right paw was nicked from the black padding area. I didn't notice this until after I got home and found blood on my arms. I understand that mistakes happen and my dog can be wiggly, but, please please don't be afraid to tell me up front in-person when I pick up my dog. This used to be a great place. My dog has gone here for over 12 years. However , management has changed. My dog has gotten the wrong haircut more than once. The owner always fixes any issues and is very nice and kind. However the new manager who has been there for 7 years has not customer service skills whatsoever. If you are 15 mins late and there is a car crash your appointment will be cancelled. They have posted $20 late fee and I was only 16 mins late. I was fine with paying the late fee but the manager became very rude and condescending to me Previously she personally gave my dog the wrong haircut after I told her to look at his file and that is not the haircut he gets. We love this place. They are professional, it's very clean, and our doggo comes home looking so fresh, fluffy and clean! Howlistic offers free nail trimmings to clients between cuts which is awesome. They use natural products including tea tree oil to clean their client's ears. While tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties, it also seems to have a calming effect on my dog - he always comes home really chill and I can tell it's from the residual tea tree oil (which also smells great). The owner is a true professional and has a long history of not only pet grooming, but business ownership. It seems like most of their clients are small dogs, but our pup is 60+ lbs, and they do great work with him. He is also 11 years old and has hip issues which I tend to worry about when bringing him places like this, but I never hesitate to leave him with Howlistic. When we arrived they greeted us with absolutely no energy or personality. Fine, at the end of the day I don't expect a red carpet from everyone for my dog. Not going to complain about that. I looked in the back to watch other dogs getting groomed, while they checked mine in. I saw a woman cutting a dog's hair with a pair of scissors, around its head / eyes mind you, while talking on the phone. Not with a pair of headphones or on speaker. No, with the phone balanced between her head and shoulder. Again, while actively cutting a dog's hair around their head and eyes. To me, that just wasn't professional and or safe. I told the woman in the front that I didn't feel comfortable with this appointment and that my dog seemed nervous. She then said the manager had to come, because they don't allow cancelations with less than 24 hours notice. I then pointed out the woman cutting the dog's hair with a pair of scissors and asked if she thought that was appropriate or professional while balancing a phone between her head and shoulder. When I expressed my unhappiness with how the grooming was I was told that "this is my interpretation of what looks good & balanced". This is by far the best cut he has had! Theo is very hyper and probably not the easiest dog the groom, so we really appreciate how amazing of a job they did. This was Coco's first mini grooming session. They cleaned her ears, trimmed her nails, backside, and the hair by her eyes. They recommended combing her out rather than trimming her body since her baby fur will come out and some point so they combed her very very well. She came out super happy and fluffy. It took 3 hours for this session but there were no signs of distress when we picked her up because they really wanted to take their time with her. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

Wow. This might just be the craziest experience ever for me. The older lady at the front desk was very nice as well as the female Hispanic groomer with long black wavy hair. Until I came to pick up my pup.... I dropped him off at 12:45. The lady told me because they close at 4pm to be there by 4pm to pick him up and he would be ready. I arrived at 3:52 pm. My dog was not ready... the Hispanic groomer for some reason has an attitude because I was told to come back at 4. Apparently I am "supposed" to know it takes 4-5 hours for my dog to be groomed. Well when I'm told what time to pick up my dog. That's when I'll be there. She then proceeded to tell me it would be another 30 min. I would not have had an issue with that except for the fact that I paid for an Uber there and back and Uber's do not wait. $40 wasted. So the groomer asks do I just want to take my dog how he is. Half cut. I said sure but I'm not paying full price for a half cut. She rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed. As I called another Uber and was waiting in the waiting area, I guess they must've thought I was gone so they decided to talk shit. Saying "we don't need her", "she doesn't ever have to come back", etc etc. So to her surprise when I turned the corner and said "thank you I won't be back. This is horrible customer service. You have an attitude because I was told a time to come get my dog and YOU don't have him ready". Then she proceeded to go back and forth with me saying she does not care if I leave a bad yelp review and that they just told R. Kelly's lawyer to "fuck off". She literally said this to me. So I'm appalled. As you may have noticed I didn't get her name because she refused to give it to me when I asked. It's sad. The half cut that she did do was a good though. I understand people have bad days but lady that's totally inappropriate to be working in a customer service field. read more

I took my 4 month old puppy in for his first haircut last weekend, and Howlistic did an amazing job. He got a bath and a "tidy up," which includes a sanitary clip and trimming the hair around his face, paws, and between his paw pads. He did not get a full body haircut because his adult coat has not grown in yet, so the groomer recommended waiting. (See, I really appreciate that-- a groomer who gives good advice about what's best for the dog, as opposed to just trying to make money off of me.) My puppy looked completely transformed for the better: he smelled so fresh, had super soft fluffy fur, and finally got all of that hair out of his eyes! Best of all, he seemed happy when I picked him up. Also, the price was very reasonable, normally $45, but they gave me a $10 off discount for being a new customer. After having a great dog groomer in California, I struggled to find a dog groomer out here in Chicago that did comparable work. And I tried a few of the highest rated ones in the city. I'm admittedly really bad about brushing my dog regularly. But when I ask for a bath, good brush out, sanitary trim, and paw fur to be trimmed and nails cut, they always seem to do a great job de-matting the problem areas without having to cut out chunks of fur. In the past I've also had trouble with groomers wanting to do haircuts or changes I didn't request, but since my dog has a double coat I know it's preferable to keep it in tact and I've never been surprised by anything when I pick him up. I read really positive reviews on Yelp before I decided to book, but I still unsure. Great availability--fairly easy to get an appointment. Great small, family-owned business. Every encounter I've had with the staff has been pleasant, including my first visit. A warm lady with a British accent happily greeted me and engaged me in conversation. For the most part, I've always been happy with my dog's cuts from there. Recently, when I wasn't, Howlistic wasn't flippant nor dismissive of my concerns. I recently gave them another chance and I love my dog's groom this time. They specialize in cutting doodles, but groom all kinds of dogs. What I love most about them, is they try their best not to just shave your dog--no matter how matted s/he may be. I've had experiences with another popular chain that specializes in Doodles where my dog has been shaved down twice. Howlistic won't do that--unless you request it. read more
