Julio has been grooming my dogs for the past 11 years! I actually can't believe it's been that long looking back now. Good groomers are hard to find, but he is the BEST! He truly cares about your dog and his craft. I moved to the suburbs 2 years ago and I tried other groomers in my area, but they could never get my Pom's haircut quite right. Needless to say, I drive from the suburbs to bring my Pom to get groomed by him, and battling the traffic is worth it! My little guy always gets snuggles from the staff and treated like one of their own. Mau's House grooming environment is more relaxed with less dogs and noise than any other grooming salon or boutique I have taken my dog's to. Following gps, i obviously drove into their back side, with few spots of parking, but says require permit etc. i was nervous to park here, but the address is right, so i decided to take the dog out and walk to the front to see whether i can find the store. Fortunately i found it, and the staff greeted and called my dog's name and shows their happiness to see him again. We agreed that i will come back in 2-3 hours, and they will notify me 20 mins earlier from the pick up. The pick up process is easy and friendly too. I've taken a number of pittie rescues there over the years, all with slightly different behavioral quirks, and he's 110% kind, patient, and knowledgable with us. And of course, the girls have always been in beautiful condition when done. I also appreciate that if something is too much for a dog, he won't push it on the dog, especially if the dog has never been there before. A corporate place would just force it and traumatize the dog. If you love you dogs, this is the place to go. I would never go anywhere else. My dog can be a bit of a diva sometimes and he is so good with him and he always comes home looking amazing and smelling SO good! Simply the best groomers in South Loop!!! Owners Julio and Lisette have been grooming my Chihuahua for over 3 years and they are by far his favorites. They are so gentle with him and do such great work! Every time I need to bring my dog in for a nail trim I have been able to get in with same day service. The prices are very fair to low compared to other full service groomers in the area as well. Both the waiting area and grooming area are very clean and kept well ventilated and air conditioned for the warm months. I am fortunate to be able to walk there but there is free street parking close by. I also like that they accept Venmo and Zelle in addition to cash and card - super convenient!! read more

Julio is so incredible. I have a large and pretty difficult dog and have stressed so much over trying to find a groomer that was patient and understanding of her. Julio is so patient and caring with my dog and I feel so comfortable bringing her to his care. She loves him and always gets so excited to see him now. Aside from him being great with her, she always looks and smells incredible when I pick her up. Additionally, his pricing is very fair. Instead of leaving a bad review for a (different) groomer in the neighborhood who messed up my dogs haircut and humiliated me, I would like to praise Julio and his service. Wishing I would of went back to Julio for my pups third groom rather then making an impromptu appointment at where I purchase my pups food. Julio did an amazing job with my pups eager demeanor and her curly doodle coat. He was very patient and was able to give her a cute short trim, in addition to educating me on how I could keep up with her grooming at home. Which after my most recent frustration, I have learned that Golden doodle coats should not be shaved down. All the while being nearly impossible to groom due to their curl and hair texture which can make finding a good groomer daunting. Well, I have learned my lesson and will no longer venture around! I highly recommend Julio and his grooming services. And even more so if you have a young energetic doodle! He clearly is one of a kind! I have never posted a negative Yelp review particularly about a small business but unfortunately my experience today at Mau's warrants this. The owner provided terrible care towards my special needs dog. I had an appointment for a nail trim, we arrived on time and within minutes the owner, Julio, told me I'd have to come back later (and bring peanut butter) because he's too busy. My dog has an amputated leg and needed a few extra minutes to develop trust and get comfortable. In addition, he was rude and extremely impatient with my dog despite a sign posted claiming patience is the key to a good groomer. I have supported Julio and his business for years, I used to call to him the dog whisperer and have referred dozens of neighbors to his business. Huge mistake, he is not in business for the reasons you'd hope, because he loves and cares for our pets. Rather he's in it to operate a revolving door of sub par service and is not dedicated to the well being of your pet. I will not be back nor recommend Mau's. read more

I spoke with the owner weeks ago to schedule an appointment for my dog's first visit, and he told me he had availability for a date weeks away, but that he would put my dog down for an appointment. I waited weeks for that date to arrive, only for the owner to say he never said that the appointment was booked and my dog was still on the wait list and that they prioritize their recurring customers over new ones, so now I will have to wait weeks again if I would like to get my dog booked or go elsewhere. I understand that mistakes and miscommunication happen, but at least be professional enough to own up to it and figure out a resolution. read more

My dog is super allergic to lots of things and they were also super accommodating and allowed me to bring my dog's medicated shampoo and hypoallergenic treats! Julio was incredibly sweet and patient with me and even more so with my dog. Lincoln is an 80lb lab/boxer who does not love to get his nails trimmed.
