This was my first time coming here and they did a GREAT job! she handled my puppy with care and was very friendly. From the time I walked in until i received my dog back, ALL staff members was friendly and had NO attitudes. It was a last minute appointment and they didn't complain squeezing us in. This will be our new home salon and I've been telling everyone, even my uber drivers to take their pet there. Also, my dog was VERY matted. She feels really nice now. read more

We've been going to Salon Dog since getting our Golden Doodle in 2021, every 7-8 weeks like clockwork. They always take their time, give the best doodle cuts, and care for our pup so well that she runs right in, tail wagging. Every appointment ends with the sweetest text--"your baby is ready"--and she comes out not only with a perfect cut but also a cute bandana or bowtie. If we weren't moving, I would never even think of going anywhere else. Salon Dog truly is the best--patient, loving, and incredibly skilled. Early on, when our pup had to be shaved once (new doodle parent mistake!), they took the time to kindly teach us how to prevent matting, and we've had little to no issue since. We'd give them 100/10 every single time. Kinzie already misses you--thank you for everything! read more

I would like to review Salon Dog. I have been going to Salon Dog for 2 years now. My dog gets his hair groomed every other month. They know my dog by name and know exactly what haircut I want for him. They do a wonderful job and my dog always looks so clean and cute after Salon Dog. I get nervous but they are awesome and always do such an amazing job and my puppy is always looking fresh. read more

We had gone to Salon Dog for 5 years and I'm sad to say that this week's appointment was the last. In the beginning, they did nice cuts and were reliable. An average appointment used to be 2-2.5 hours. Over the last year, the cuts have been inconsistent and the length of the appointment longer, like 4 hours. They used to be able to give you an estimate at drop off, but now they can't give any idea of how long it will be. If you have a schedule to manage, that makes things tough. They were also annoyed when I checked in (after 3 hours!) to get an estimate about how much longer it would be. Secondly, grooming is inconsistent. For instance, tail is sometimes fully trimmed, sometimes not. There are always a couple spots where some fur was missed. Initially I thought maybe they had some off days but after it happened 6 times in a row, it's a quality issue. I don't see the woman who I thought was the owner around anymore, maybe that's the reason for the change. I love small businesses and drove further away to get to Salon Dog, but I'm tired of having to trim my dog after paying for grooming. I also don't think asking for a time estimate is an unreasonable question...sorry guys read more

You get what you pay for...but not here. That's all I can say about this place. I took my sheltie in for a full groom, and they didn't deshed him, didn't cut his hair, no nail or paw trim. He looked awful. It was $75 plus tip, and they said that his second visit would be less--$55. So weird to overcharge for the first visit. My old groomer was $100 for a full groom, and we only tried Salon Dog because it was closer. To ensure it wasn't a fluke, we took our other dog (chocolate lab) to be deshedded and bathed. But they SHAVED him. I asked if they had used clippers, and they swore they didn't. But he was shaved so I knew it was a lie. It was also $75 for him, but no nail trim was included. Overall weird pricing and really bad service. Avoid at all costs. You will not get what you pay for. read more

I was so happy with my experience at Salon Dog I got a Yelp account to write my first review ever! My mini golden doodle Charlotte (9 months old) had never had a hair cut before with the exception of getting her feet/face/fanny trimmed at Petco. I was scarred by her shaved face each time and so I was REALLY hesitant to get her hair cut. Salon Dog exceeded my expectations. The did exactly what I asked for and hoped for -- and that was even after they were very honest/clear with me (while being very kind) that they cannot make my dog look like a 3-month old again (based on the photos I was showing them). :) She has a full little head, with her eyes not too shaved, and a great 2-inch cut all over. I will be more willing to go shorter next time since I trust them. Thanks, Salon Dog!! read more

Salon Dog - Dog grooming - Pet Groomers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Salon Dog was the first groomers we tried in Chicago and we haven't even bothered trying other places since. I have a 6-pound maltese that starts looking VERY shaggy after going too long without a cut. I've only brought him in twice, but both times he's been cut to the exact shape and look I asked for. My little baby comes out smelling amazing- the scent lasts for days! Ideally, if he got a quick blast of air after the cut (to blow away some of the loose hair after a cut), that would have been A++, but not a dealbreaker. For the wash and cut, I paid between $55-65. My only issues are with the inconsistent service and uncertain wait time. On our first visit, we were called back in less than 2 hours. But the second time, I dropped my dog off at 1pm and didn't get any updates until I called at around 4pm, at which point I was told it would be another hour. Since we live around 30-40 minutes away, it was frustrating trying to readjust our errands. They also did not cut his nails the second time, even though it should have been part of the groom. read more

What a great place! The customer service is always top notch. The self-washing dog station is perfect for our 45lb Australian Shepherd, Radar, who is slightly too big and fury to wash at home. They offer several shampoos, all of which smell divine. They didn't have conditioner setting out this time but I simply asked if any were available. The next thing I knew there was conditioner in my hand. They even have stuff to wash your dog's ears. We don't use the hair dryer but one is available to use. Radar doesn't love bath time but still loves going into Salon Dog. It might have something to do with the bounty of dog cookies and treats. They often give a discount on treats and toys if you use the self-washing station. Why get copious amounts of dog hair in your drain when you can walk a few blocks, use someone else's supplies, and not ever have to worry about dirtying your own towels. Not to mention the physical discomfort of bathing your dog at home. For $10, I'll continue to go to Salon Dog. Thank you Salon Dog! You all have a perfect little shop :-) read more

I would have give Salon dog 10 stars if there is such option, that's how much we like this place! Christina is always so nice to my dog and so welcoming! And she always does a good job on him, come home looking fabulous! F.Y.I my baby is a full coat Old English sheepdog, he is a giant fluffball. Oliver always so happy to go into salon dog and give kisses to Christina, I know that he is being well talking of and enjoy his time there. Thank you so much! read more

We found the most amazing groomer here at Salon Dog. We are new to the City and really went off of social media recommendations choosing Salon Dog. We could not be any happier. Scheduling was super easy online. Even choosing the services. They confirmed about 3 times before our appointment. Dropping off our Fur Baby was Soo relaxing and uneventful even while maintaining social distancing it was a zero contact exchange. Our dog is scared of the groomer or let's be honest everything in the world. But she absolutely loved it here. She was able to walk around and be ok on her own terms dropping off. The cut was perfect and she came home soo clean and smooth. Super friendly staff and very affordable pricing. Thank you Salon Dog!! read more

Sadly updating my review because of a slew of negative experiences on the phone with Salon Dog. I've been a repeat customer for 5 years here and they've just gotten meaner and meaner on the phone. This is a busy salon, but there's no excuse for rudely cutting off truly loyal customers calling about availability. I don't expect to be cut off and condescended to when calling a business with an aggressive NO when asking about open appointments, and being nastily told that their next availability isn't for MONTHS after being cut off. Like how could i have had the NERVE to call a business trying to give them business! How dare I be so stupid to expect they'd have availability! This has happened the last 3 times i've called salon dog, so sadly I think it's just how they operate. I'm really sad because they do a good job grooming, but their customer service is just downright mean when answering calls! I'm sure they won't miss my business because they're apparently just too packed to even be friendly on the phone, but i wanted to warn any potentially new customers looking to yelp for reviews to just temper your expectations for friendliness and availability. read more

I adopted my girls a 3 weeks ago and this was their first salon trip, they are not socialized and can be reactive (we are working on it )I think I was more nervous then they were, but we were met by the kindest people who made this a great experience for us, I picked them up and they looked and smelled so good! Highly recommend and looking forward to our next appointment!! Also very respectful of social distancing and easy transition dropping the dogs off to get serviced! Salon Dog has has taken great care of my 2 pups! If you have a doodle this is your place. I love their easy online booking system as well.

I've been getting coffee across the street from here for about a year and have literally never noticed Salon Dog until a few weeks ago. I saw that they have a do-it-yourself doggy wash so I decided to take my pooch here for a bath. I saw in reviews that the dog wash is only $10 so I just expected a tub with a hose for water. I was really impressed with how much nicer this was than I expected. Most importantly, I would pay more than $10 to be able to stand upright while giving my dog a bath. When I have to do this at my house I hate being bent over on my knees trying to wrangle my dog to stay still while also pouring water over him with a cup or something similar. I was able to stand up and bathe my dog here and it was wonderful. The salon offers several shampoos, ear cleaner, cologne, and brushes for your bath. There's also a ton of towels, a small harness in the tub to help keep your dog still, rubber aprons to keep you dry, and a blow dryer. The hoses for the water and the blow dryer are super long which is really helpful to minimize moving your dog - I was able to just move myself and reach around and there was more than enough hose to go around. In the front, they have a big selection of things for sale like clothes, leashes, food, treats, etc. We bought our pup a "bakery" item from the case and he loved it. They had a large selection and the bakery items were inexpensive so they made for a great one-off treat. I absolutely loved the experience here. I may take my dog back for a full groom but I am glad there's a place I can come to bathe him now that he's older and has skin issues. Since I need to bathe him once a month now (instead of once every 4-6) I'd like to be able to bathe my pup in comfort instead of wrangling him in my home bathtub. read more

Sick of paying $60+ for baths at PetSmart and not wanting to clog my bathtub drain with copious amounts of dog hair, I came to Salon Dog to check out their self-wash option. And after just one visit, I'm definitely a fan! We were greeted, shown to the self-wash room off to the left, and given an explanation of how everything worked. There's just one giant tub, so it's a one-dog-at-a-time thing, but they provide four aprons to keep everybody dry along with all the products you could ever need. We had our choice of six types of shampoo, three brushes, a conditioner, ear cleaning solution, and more. The nozzle for the bath is handheld, there's a special leash to hook your dog in place, and an ample stack of towels waits for you at the end. We even attempted to use their blow dryer (which resembled a car vacuum) but it didn't go over well with the pup. Best of all, the bath only cost $10! Now, is my dog as clean and shiny as when she gets those $60+ professional baths? No. But that's totally user error -- I'm not a pro! And I'm perfectly okay with bathing her myself to cut back on the expenses between her fancy baths. read more

I have two rescue pups, a nutty frenchie and a flighty terrier. I only trust Christine and her team to deal with my dogs, they are amazing! Everyone in there is knowledgeable, gentle and very professional! Some days I wash them myself in the self wash, but other times when I need a break I let them do it. My dogs always come home happy and clean! I love this place and recommend them to anyone with dog. read more

It's about time I got to this review. I've been here several times now (maybe 5?) and this review is a long time coming. I don't even live all that close, but Salon Dog is worth the trek up the Kennedy for me. I've been bringing my Yorkie, Daisy, here for a while now. She's definitely not the easiest to groom [cough "brat"], but they do a fantastic job here and Daisy seems to like them! Every time I pick her up I'm amazed at how cute she is! For a few days after I just keep telling her she's "so cute" and "so pretty"! (I'm that crazy dog mom for sure.) Their prices are super competitive/not expensive and the service is top notch. I'd highly recommend Salon Dog to anyone who needs a new groomer. read more

We live just around the corner from Salon Dog and decided to take our boys here! First off it's very clean and a wide range of holistic food and treats offered for the pups! Second the owners are great!!! They treat our babies as if they are their own! Finnegan and Squints are nervous pups when it comes to new people but Christina has a magic touch with them she gives plenty of hugs and kisses to calm them down :) Haircuts are great and very reasonable! We have been to other groomers in the past that didn't want to take the time to get the knots out of our super curly boys hair so they would always suggest shaving him when we love his long hair. Christina takes the time and patience and makes him look awesome in the end! Thanks so much for making our boys look awesome as always! read more

I take my dog Dixie once every couple months to get a groom (she is short haired so she only needs a bath and desheeding): the staff is ALWAYS friendly and super accommodating , they always get me in even when they're booked solid . I've never had a problem , my pup always comes back smelling good and happy . I would also add this is one of the more reasonably priced grooming places I have been to . Dixie is about 50 labs short haired lab/pit and for the whole cleaning it cost about 40$ (that included a teeth cleaning). They also have a self wash which I've used in the past (it's really reasonably priced , I believe 15$ and they provide all the tools you might need). read more

My 7 months old poodle got his haircut with Christina. This was his third grooming experience, two in different place. It took a while (about three hours), but when we arrived to pick him up we were impressed with the result. His haircut was beautiful, Christina did exactly what we asked her to do. We wanted a teddy bear face for him and he looked amazing and so cute. I recommend Christina especially for puppies who have hair and need a gorgeous look. Oh, and he smelled so good! His hair was shiny and super fluffy. We are super excited we found Salon Dog in the area. Thank you Christina for providing such a professional results! read more

We bathe our dog every other week, brush her daily, and groom her ourselves about once every 6 weeks, but we only get her groomed professionally 2-3x a year because it can get pricey very quickly. Salon Dog not only charges a very reasonable price (I believe it is a flat fee regardless of the dog breed) and does an awesome job! We've tried a number of other groomers (Kriser's PetSmart, boutiques) and for the most part, they do an OK job, but our dog never ends up how we want her to look. We typically show the groomer a picture of ideally how we'd want the dog to look, and all the other groomer's we've been to end up cutting our Bichon's fur into a poodle-cut (think: pointed snout). Salon Dog definitely exceeded our expectations and we've been there 2-3 times just in the last 6 months. The fur is always even, she ends up smelling great for days after, and her head is round like a Bichon's is supposed to be. I did notice that on our last trip, the groomer cut one of her nails too close to the quick so there was a bit of bleeding but nothing major. I think we found our go-to groomer! She also always comes home with a bowtie or a bandana :) read more

Salon Dog - Great grooming store... - Pet Groomers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I've been coming to Salon Dog for about 2 years and always buy my supplies here whenever I can to support a small, local business. I've never been late. On the day of my most recent appointment, I had an unexpected family emergency and called to say I would be 15 minutes late. They didn't ask who I was, just said that's fine, see you when you get here. I ended up being 45 minutes late and arrived very apologetically. (I work in healthcare - I know this was very inconvenient and frustrating.) One staff person assured me it was okay but when another one came to get my dog, she was clearly upset. I apologized to her as well and she said, "yeah, you're almost an hour late so he'll be here all day." I said, "not a problem, thank you!" After about 5 hours I called just to ask for an update. Whoever answered the phone refused to give me one and continued to repeat, "you were an hour late so we'll text you." I told her that I understood and I wasn't in a rush, I was just asking for an estimate of when she thought he might be ready. She responded "so when you're an hour late, you take another dog's appointment. So we will text you when he is ready." They texted me less than an hour later so he was clearly almost done when I spoke to her. When I picked him up, I explained that I would have preferred they not accept my appointment today instead of taking my dog and treating me poorly. The staff responded that they didn't want to reschedule me because they're booked for the next couple months. As if they were doing me a favor by accepting my dog and being so rude to me. In my time as a customer, I would say about half the staff was never really friendly anyways. I will no longer be returning. read more

We love Salon Dog. Leaving your dog for grooming is like- leaving your child at daycare. It can be nerve racking at the wrong place. But not here. I've been taking our two goldendoodles here for two years now. I trust them completely with our pets. Great, friendly staff who listen and ask what you would like done with your dog. Then honestly talks to you about your request. One of my dogs has more poodley fur and matts easily. I was waiting too long between cuts, so now I go more often and her coat looks great year round. I am so appreciative of the trust I have in them. I usually book about a week ahead. Reasonable prices. My 2 dogs were there today from around 9-2:00. My pups come home fluffy, fresh & happy! And that makes me a happy dog Mom. I always park right on the street & flip on my hazard lights. Quick in & out! No problems! read more

We just love Salon dog and all of the staff! My dog always comes out smelling so good and sometimes even adorned with a homemade bandanna. Last time it was a Star Wars one, so he was sure to be the coolest pup around. This is also the only place that my dog's nails always come out smooth and not jagged after being cut. The owner Christina, is so sweet and even applied and showed me where and how to apply our dog's Frontline gel for an upcoming camping trip as we were worried about ticks. During the holidays last year, they had an event where you could get your dog photographed with Santa and they framed it and even gave us a goody bag. It was a very fun event and we're hoping they do it again. I highly recommend taking your dog here for grooming and also be sure to pick up a special after-grooming snack for your pup. read more

I can't say enough how thrilled I was with the job they did at Salon Dog. My dog is not an easy job. She's a double coated Norwegian Elkhound. Very thick hair. She also hates to get a bath. But Christine calmed her down with treats until she was comfortable. When we picked her up, she was soft as a chinchilla. Not only that, but she blew out all of the loose hair she normally sheds constantly. They also gave her a cute little bandana. My only issue (not really their fault) is that parking in the area is a problem. But other than that. I will be returning again and again. Kudos! read more
