We made an online reservation, when we arrived they made us wait since they "didnt have the reservation" then after we were seated we waited iver 20 minutes to get drinks ordered. The wairess had a nasty crusty nose ring in, the steaks were super thin and over cooked, and took 45 minutes additional to arrive. At an hour and a half we called the manager over who 9nly had "Well nobody is perfect" and "My dad is the Corporate contact" when we brought all of to his attention. I wish I could give it negative stars, what a horrible place. Our dining experience occurred on Wednesday evening, July 24, 2019 This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in many, many years. I'm really not that old, however, everything was very wrong. They don't even deserve one star. I should've paid attention to the many other YELP previous reviews. We are just regular folks out for a nice dinner. We did not have any over the top expectations as this was a casual restaurant. We entered the restaurant and were seated in a short time. Our server greeted us nicely and welcomed us to the restaurant. There were two of us dining together, we both drank water. The server brought us a nice warm small loaf of bread. No butter, but she said that she would be "right back with it". After 10-15 minutes we asked another server to bring some butter. Our server brought it and apologized. ... No big deal. We started our order with an appetizer: shrimp cocktail. It was just a tad warmer than room temperature. But we thought, " no problem"...we were hungry. I ordered 6 oz salmon with broccoli and my fellow diner ordered the southwestern salad. He had asked to have his salad tossed. We noticed that there were a few flies around. But this was an unfamiliar area to us, so we thought it must be farms nearby?? Our food arrived about 25 minutes after ordering. My salmon and broccoli looked fine. However the other diner's salad wasn't tossed. The server said: " the cook said that he didn't toss salads". It would have been nice to know in advance. *** note to management: please train your serving staff to be aware of what the cooks can or will not do so that your diners are aware of their choices before they place their order*** After just a couple of bites of my salmon, I realize something did not taste quite right. I eat salmon often and I know how it will taste, texture and the look. I looked at the underside of the salmon, when I first saw the LIME green "gel/jelly" I politely waived our server over and showed her the LIME green on the salmon. She grimaced and removed the salmon and said that she'd bring out another shortly. I changed my mind and advised our server to please cancel my salmon and broccoli. Her response was, "I understand. I will remove it from your check". Meanwhile the other diner's salad that was not tossed, was indeed tossed-with french fries throughout the salad. About this time we had decided we did not want to consume anything from this establishment. The food did not look safe or prepared properly. We asked to speak to the manager. My fellow diner also decided not to consume anything further. He had eaten less than 25% of his salad. I had two small bites of lemon. When the server delivered our check, the salmon was not removed from the bill but a second one was added! The manager had an opportunity to make things right but his lack of professionalism, disturbing attitude and poor responses , truly shed light on the nature of this restaurant and more importantly, the representation from management to diner/dining experience being of a horrible nature. His comments: A). "Shrimp cocktail is always served room temperature". Really???!!! B). "The LIME Green on the bottom of the salmon, was skin." I eat salmon often and have never encountered LIME green gel/jelly anything on the salmon, whether purchased at the store or at any eating establishment. Hmmmm? No wonder the first bite or two of the salmon seemed "off". C). No comment about the french fries in the salad. D). No comment about Our observation about the flies. ****Remember,We were just hungry diners wanting what we ordered-safe and properly**** We gave him a chance to make recommendations or modifications to have us be happy patrons but he just stared at us. Arrived at the restaurant at 9pm. Door unlocked and went in. No hostess. Waited several minutes finally talked with someone to get seated. Oh no, we are closed, we are told. We ordered an appetizer of the steak and avocado we got it was cold and so greasy we couldn't even eat it. We both ordered prime rib it had zero flavor and mine was so tough I couldn't eat it sent it back asked for another one but I'm not worthy of any sides because he took it and the a jus was from the other steak so that was cold now. Four horrible pieces of asparagus that was really bitter. Waiter was told all about the problems but didn't care one bit so that's why the review. 71.00 dollars of disappointment. Let me start off by saying my waiter, Gabe I believe, was very nice however the customer service here as a whole is awful. I am staying in the Ramada for a night and decided to stop in this steakhouse. Upon walking in and after standing there for Ten Minutes waiting to be seated, I finally approached a woman working there and asked if it's self seating. She said that a hostess will be coming(mind you it's been ten minutes already and it seemed like I was bothering her the way she responded). The hostess finally came and I noticed that that seems to be the pattern there with most guests. I witness two other groups of people stand there for just as long as me and the restaurant is almost empty . Vile food. Was not able to eat it. Over cooked, greasy and generally awful. Would not recommend. Prime rib sandwich was inedible. Meat was tough and tasteless. The bun was hard enough to be used as a weapon. Forget eating it unless you're ready to break a tooth. Black bean burger was over cooked and tasted of meat drippings as it was cooked on the same grill as the meat. Artichoke dip was floating in grease and no dipping possible as the top layer was like cement. Beware of this place. And all of this disgust for more than $35. read more

HORRIBLE experience. On Wednesday night we decided to go to Ruby River. We had been there many times before and were visiting from out of town. It was the WORST restaurant experience I have encountered. They sat us at the "Dave & the boys" table. I think, "the boys", referred to the dead BUGS that were on the window seal right next to our table. I brought this up to our server, a nice young man with a ponytail/bun. He said that he would tell management. He proceeded to bring our food and drinks. Nothing was mentioned about the DISGUSTING FILTH that was at our table. We did eat our meal and wondered when the manager would come and address the situation. We finished our meal and the server brought our check and started to walk away. I stopped him and asked, "so is your manager going to do anything about this BUG situation?" He said he would tell his manager again. I replied, "tell your manager that it is DISGUSTING out here." He came back after a few minutes and said that SHE was able to take the $5.25 kids meal off of our bill. "So SHE isn't going to come out to speak to us?" He didn't know what to say. WOW that is a pathetic manager. SHE really doesn't care about her customers. Several PROBLEMS here. 1. They didn't offer to have us change tables. 2. They didn't offer to clean the booth. 3. Horrible Manager hid in her office to avoid addressing the PROBLEM. 4. On a $53 dinner, the BUG situation only merited a $5.25 discount. 5. We ate here last winter & it was one of the best meals I had ever had. We came back last month for my birthday & it was AWFUL. The steaks were not seasoned, the broccoli was almost mush from being overcooked, the jacketed baked potato was not jacketed, the wedge salad came without bacon. It was so disappointing. My Husband and I have been coming to this location for years. However, it has just been more meh ever time we come. I have always loved their bread and can't find fault with that. We got the calamari, but the breading kept falling off and it smelled very fishey. Most Seafood fanatics know that if your food smells like fish be careful. It might be going bad. Fresh Calamari shouldn't smell like fish about to turn. Which is annoying. I tried the Prickly Pear Margarita and it was really bad. I'm ok with salty anything, but this tasted like they dumped like a tablespoon of salt into it by accident. My Husband got the Hulk and it was very strong, but tasted awesome!!! My Husbands Ribs and Chicken were really good. However, my Prime Rib was not very good. It was not seasoned well and I loooovvveeee Horseradish and this had no heat behind it and was very bland!!! Which was sad but, my Wedge Salad, Garlic Mash with Country Gravy, and Garlic Broccoli were really good. It's just disappointing when the main thing that I wanted wasn't good. Horrible horrible horrible experience! We are working our way to Wyoming in our travels. This restaurant was a hotel recommendation, our error for not looking on yelp! 1. Husband didn't get salad he ordered when the rest of us got the salad- he never did 2. Gorgonzola sauce was an Oscar sauce instead when we told the waiter he just apologized 3. Daughter never got her French fries with her steak until the latter part of the meal 4. Steak ordered medium but served medium rare 5. No water refills not once 6. Debated on speaking to manager, when we decided to let her know our feedback, she showed to our table no uniform shirt, and she could not have been a whole 20 years old (if she was even the manager), but was very uninterested as she didn't try to even make it right by apologizing. Stayed right across the street, so seemed like somewhere we should try. First night the wait was an hour, so we went elsewhere, but the popularity felt like a good sign. Second night we discovered they closed at 7pm. I've never heard of a restaurant closing at 7pm, especially a steak house. Third night we finally got a table. Margaritas were okay, and wine was fine for the price. Ordered the 16oz ribeye medium rare, but it came out medium well. Waitress tried to claim it was medium, but she was either covering for the chef or she doesn't know her steaks. I wouldn't send back a medium, but this was far beyond medium; regardless, she had it corrected, but the new steak came out very gray on outside and unappetizing looking. They should be able to cook a steak medium rare while also getting a good sear on it, especially since they claim to "sear at 1600°". Flavor was okay I guess, but hard to get passed the appearance. Onion rings were good, but a sad little portion. Cream gravy for potatoes had the consistency of water. Side salad was fine. Nothing here is worth returning for. read more

We don't usually hand out a lot of five star ratings, and if we were to compare this steakhouse to others we frequent in Orange County, it would probably score a little bit lower in comparison. However, it's one of the best places we've found to eat in this part of Utah and unlike some of the other reviews we've actually had exceptional and friendly service each of the several times we've been here. I'm not sure why our service has differed from some of the other recent reviews, maybe day of the week and time of day make a difference. When we've been here it's usually pretty busy. This is a very western-themed restaurant that might be considered a bit outdated but it creates a nice ambiance and a welcoming feeling. We've sat in the area of the fireplace each time so I would recommend that if seating is available in that part of the restaurant. Disclaimer, it seems like it's part of an older hotel property so it is kind of hidden from the road and the exterior of the hotel is far from modern. Meal service begins with a loaf of sourdough bread served with some type of cinnamon or honey butter as we recall. It was warm and fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a nice compliment to the meal and because it's sourdough we found that we ate with more moderation so that we could enjoy our entrees. They do serve alcohol here which doesn't always seem to be the case in Utah and we had a nice red wine each time. The bar area did not appear to have a full-time bartender so we're sure what the full range of drink options are. We've tried a number of menu selections here and been pleased with pretty much all of them. First, this is really quality aged beef, we'd guess at least choice grade or higher due to the nice marbling we've found in both the New York and even the top sirloin. Our steaks have been perfectly seasoned and cooked basically just as we ordered. We've also had grilled salmon with avocado and a fresh salsa that seemed like it may be an odd pairing but actually the flavors were quite complimentary. The average price is probably around $20 unless you order a pretty substantially-sized steak. To us, this is an absolute steal, but of course southern California prices are much different from Utah prices. Remember though the you get at least two sides as we recall with each entree so there is a very plentiful amount of food. There were plenty of choices for sides, we typically had a garden or caesar salad and either a baked potato, yam or mashed potatoes. I'd recommend asking for the dressing on the side of the salads or it may have too much for your liking. If you haven't tried the baked potato you may want to check it out. It's quite unique from others we've seen in that it appears to have been dipped in some type of tempura batter and then deep fried after it was baked. This adds a very unusual texture that we found intriguing. And if you like yams, this is one of the few spots that we've seen that actually still serve them whole (if our memory is correct it's topped with cinnamon and butter). The only side that we've ordered that wasn't as good as hoped for was the broccoli, mostly because it was gigantic in size, as you can see from our photos. One of favorite things is actually from the specialty drink menu and it's a non-alcoholic concoction made from a variety of mixed berries. Really a nice dessert even but we tried one of them at the start of our meal. If you're accustomed to the poshness of Mastro's or Flemings this is not an experience like those steakhouses. This is much more casual and in no way fine dining. However, we've loved the food and found the people very friendly and would certainly come back anytime we are in the area. read more

Ruby River is a damn decent steak house with a just splash of theme to keep it honest. It's a great place to take your folks when they're in town but can definitely be a date location too. It has a lot of the elements of a much higher end steakhouse but at much more reasonable price and isn't so fancy that you can't wear a tee shirt. When you go to a place like Texas Roadhouse, you're assaulted by loud country music, ostentatious decorations and the food is fine enough but the atmosphere can be a little overwhelming. Ruby River has all those elements, but turned down to a much more pleasant degree. You don't have to yell over the music, there isn't some decoration splashed over every surface and the food is much better. read more

Ruby River is one of those places that is rarely bad, but rarely amazing. Normally it is just good. I've probably eaten here 15-20 times. It has been a year or so since I've been and my wife wanted to go -- we both ordered prime rib. The meat wasn't tender as would be expected. Also, they heated the plates up before putting the prime rib on them to bring them out. The plates were so hot that it continued to cook the prime rib so that it was no longer the level I ordered (one side now grilled). (For some reason restaurants currently think it is cool to bring out food on a sizzling plate, but they forget that the food keeps cooking when they do this.) They had a pumpkin creme brulee that was a special. It wasn't very good, we didn't finish it. I should have gotten their bread pudding, which I love. This trip I felt wasn't worth the amount spent. read more

The sweet potato is much better than the standard potato, and you don't have to eat the coating. When you're waiting there's buckets of peanuts and you can throw the shells on the floor. Took my wife last night to The River and we loved the food, we both had the half rack and the half chicken. It was amazing! Though it was not traditional BBQ, as you could tell that the meat was not smoked, but roasted in an oven then served with BBQ sauce. The service was GREAT! Having seen several positive reviews on yelp, I had some hope for this place. Only came because we had a gift certificate. Had to move tables after a few mintues because there was, wait for it, a cockroach ON our table. Not beneath or hidden, but right in plain sight. Seriously? But they gave us our appetizer for free so that made it all better (not). The said It was free for "it taking so long" but then at the end they pointed it out on the receipt that it was taken off for us having to move tables, so... did no one want to own the fact that there was a COCKROACH? Food? The appetizer was the steak and avacado rolls. The first bite was really good, but the second bite and each bite after was so disgustingly greasy, there was literally a puddle of oil on my plate dripping from my hand, we couldn't even finish them. My husbands steak was dry, and my peppered salmon was definitely that! The pepper was so overpowering I was scrapping it off, left to eat the bland salmon while trying to dodge the overly sweet teriyaki sauce it was drenched in. The staff was super friendly, that was the only good thing. Still bugged that no one owned the cockroach situation, they just pretended like it didnt happen and kept dodging it. I feel bad that people around here might actually think this place is the go to for a good steak, but no. I was told that this place was good but I think I would have had a better meal eating at the Sizzlers across the street. Granted the service here was very good and it's not the wait staff's fault the food was terrible. They bill themselves as making all the sauces in house and that would be a wonderful hook if they were any good. The sampler platter came with green jello looking sauce that tasted like ginger. What you may think is mustard because it is yellow was sweet and the Cesar dressing was probably the worst thing there. I ended up sending my salad back thinking it was spoiled. Turns out it's just nasty feet smelling grossness. Now on to the terrible hunk of beef they billed as fillet mignon. First it was wrapped in bacon so that's all I could taste. This is only acceptable if you are cooking at home on the grill. In a so called "fancy" restaurant the only reason is to hide the taste of a bad cut of meat. Plus this cut is supposed to be one of the best so a hard line of gristle down the center only makes me wonder just where did this come from? I only thank goodness the rest of my party enjoyed their meal and only I was the one to get sick the next day from the food. Next time I visit the area I will aim higher. read more

I feel bad that I don't have better things to say about this restaurant, because it looks nice and the service was above-average. My wife and I had wanted to try this place for a long time, so we stopped in for a late lunch yesterday. The first thing I noticed was that even though we came at 3:30, we were given the dinner menu - most restaurants won't start charging dinner prices until after 5:00. We started with the fiery turkey beaks (jalapeño peppers wrapped in turkey bacon and stuffed with sausage). Turkey bacon is a poor substitute for the real thing, and made the overall impact of these appetizers underwhelming. We ordered a 6 oz. top sirloin steak with garlicky potatoes and a half-rack of ribs with sauteed mushrooms. The steak itself was fine - it was tasty, tender and done medium rare as ordered. That said, a good cut of meat is hard to screw up. Unfortunately, our overall impression of the food was "flat." The ribs had a sweet barbecue sauce poured over them and the meat was tender, but underneath the sauce, the pork tasted pretty much like nothing. The garlicky potatoes must have been hiding the garlic somewhere else, because I couldn't taste any at all, and my impression of the onion crisps was stale and greasy. The mushrooms were good, but nothing to write home about. We ordered a bread pudding to take home, and found it dense and fairly tasteless, accompanied by an industrial sweet-sauce that left no angels singing around the table. We've eaten at a lot of steak joints, and for some reason this one came up wanting. With so many others to choose from, I doubt we'll be back. read more

We arrived in Provo on a Saturday night about 6:30 pm. The hotel check in clerk at the Hampton Inn suggested this place. We were advised of a 40 minute wait and the waiting area was full. We waited outside for an hour before being seated. The food was ok but nothing special. We ordered a dish with one side choosing salads for the side. The salad was served before the entree and the entree was served alone. This was really annoying. I would not recommend this place because the food was not worth the wait. read more

There is nobody at the entrance, if you go ahead and get a table at bar. The waitress take 10 minutes to show up. Foods take forever and this time 2/3 of my plate was absolutely empty. I asked for a manager the guy came took a look at the plate and said it was right 3 ounces of chicken and 2 spoons of rice. That is it! Well, no good margarita worth this. I really question their claims to being voted best steaks in the state. Perhaps the other location is better, because this place was really mediocre. Sizzle makes a better steak and the sides are just terrible. Our service was actually quite good, compared to some of the other reviews, but the steaks didn't come out anywhere near the right temps, and what they call steak for the kids steak kabob is basically the gristle cut off of the real steaks. In Provo on business, I decided to check out RR based on the generally positive reviews. I ate at a bar table. There is no actual "bar" at this place, just a bunch of bar top tables near a large serving station.. kind of weird. There were 4 beers on tap...and a rather weak selection at that: Bud, Miller, Blue Moon, and a house red beer called I-forget-what. Blue Moon it is. I was encouraged by the excellent sourdough bread ... seriously some of the best hot bread I've had at a steakhouse. I also got some wings - they were not Buffalo style, more of a sweet/spicy thing going on (as advertised) - but I liked them and along with my Blue Moon we were off to a pretty good start. But then it all went horribly, horribly wrong ... I was presented with a caesar salad consisting of 5 leaves of lettuce covered in some tepid dressing made from cafeteria-grade mayonnaise. Then my apathetic waitress brought out my ribeye. Now mind you, I was not expecting the world from this place, which seemed like a classed-up Logan's Roadhouse, complete with the stupid 5 gallon aluminum bucket of peanuts taking up 1/4 of my table and blocking my view of the TV. But tell me: is there a grade of meat below Select? If so, this thing was a grade or two below that. Dressed in some weak excuse for a blackening seasoning, this grill-mark-less slab of leather laughed at my every attempt to cut through it. To be fair, they did manage cook it to order (mr), so they've got going for them. Skip it, you can do better. Arby's is right across the street. At least they won't dash your expectations. read more

My first time here before the BYU vs USU game this past Friday. It was so good! Prime rib medium rare was gone hella fast. The mashed potatoes with garlice and cheese were hella good too. And the waitresses are pretty and got nice backyards, if you know what I'm sayi...nevermind. Anyways 5 stars for being the first steakhouse to pop my steakhouse cherry! I should have known when I looked at their website that a $19.00 filet will not taste like Ruth Chris. Overall, there is a reason why they are busy.
