I was staying at the nearby Residence In By Marriott South University (great place). Ruby River Steak House proved to be a good choice for lunch. I ordered the eight ounce New York Steak with Onion Rings as the side. It was pretty good. I don't understand the negative reviews for the steaks here. Mine was the princely sum of $18.99. One cannot expect a prime steak for $18.99. The onion rings were good, too. It's full bar with a variety of beers, so all of your booze groups are covered. It being 11:00 a.m., I opted for an iced tea. Ambience wise, it's spacious with a western theme. The service was friendly and good. Bottom line: I'd eat here again the next time I'm in town. read more

We travel from California to Montana every year to see family. We always stay at Hampton Inn in South Provo (Superb). We usually eat at Ruby River Steak house. This trip we arrived shortly after 9 and was informed by host that they decided to close. I informed her their Web site stated they were open until 9:30. She was very dismissive. I asked if she could check with cook staff. She turned, walked away. After several minutes I saw her standing at the bar and asked again. She looked at me and shrugged. I was very disappointed by her attitude. We ate at Sizzler across the street for half the price and had ribeye steaks better than Ruby River. I would recommend that anyone wanting to eat here GO ELSEWHERE. read more

We stayed at a hotel nearby on our way home from our Thanksgiving holiday. We were referred to this restaurant due to its location and the person said that it was a great restaurant so we ventured out to try it. The restaurant is connected to the Ramada Inn hotel and very close to a mall. So location was good. Upon entering we were greeted by a young lady in jeans and a sweater, not at all what I would expect for a greeter at a steakhouse but it is a college town so whatever. We entered a warmly lit room with a good amount of tables. We ordered a wedge salad and prime rib. My husband ordered a full baked potato and I ordered the sweet potato. Our wedge salad arrived and upon inspection we both said that it was the largest and strangest looking wedge we had ever been served as it was upside down and the dressing was very odd. It was supposed to be blue cheese but it tasted bland, felt more like watered down mayo than a dressing. I took my first bite and besides the dressing, the bacon had a very odd flavor. We moved it aside and tried to eat it but neither of us could eat much of it. Then our steaks arrived and I took one look at my sweet potato and just had to laugh. It looked like they dipped the potato in some kind of batter and deep fried it! Why do that to my sweet potato!? Haha It made no sense. I opened the sweet potato and thankfully it was fine... Okay now with a heavy sigh I stared at my prime rib with shaved horseradish in a pile on one side of my steak. This was yet another perplexing situation.. it was truly raw in the sense that it was not even peeled.. just freshly grated. Beyond that it had no kick.. the waitress told us that we could mix it with sour cream if we wanted, as they did not offer creamy horseradish! Haha It was an entire comedy of errors. So I tried my best to mix the horseradish with the sour cream... it had no flavor. Then I inspected my prime rib a little closer and found half of it to be fat or grisly. I looked back at my salad at this point trying to figure out which of these items I could actually eat. The sweet potato was actually fine but nothing special. So here is where I sit with this restaurant. It may be what people like.. I wasn't a fan. It was convenient but I would not classify this as a great steakhouse. I feel someone needs to revamp the recipes because I have seen others review this restaurant and we are all on the same page with the wedge salad. read more

We had the 7 ounce fillet with a Gorgonzola topping and the skewered shrimp steak was cooked to perfection very tender and juicy with a bottle of line 39 Cabernet, which is also excellent. What kind of steakhouse, worth a damn, doesn't have a T-bone or Porterhouse on the menu??? I've been a consistent fan of Ruby River, until last week. When ordering my go to, porterhouse, she says, " sorry we don't have them on the menu anymore" I said its right here, showing her the menu. I then ordered a T- Bone. Again, "I'm sorry sir" WHAT???? We don't have that either) To be honest, their NY and Rib-eye are a 5 out of 10. We ended up ordering a filet, which nobody could screw up, but filets don't have the flavor of a T-bone. Service was outstanding. Food leaves much to be desired. Weak weak weak drinks. Steaks that were over seasoned. By a lot. Uncharged for onion rigs is fine but it should not be a child sized portion of something that you pull out of a freezer. Not as good as I expected from other reviews. I almost wished I had hit Sizzler across the street. Service was very good. Absolutely no complaints about our sever. Place felt dark and dated. That would have played better at night, but we were there for a late lunch. Everything was very salty. I an a salt liver, so this is the first time I have ever complained about salt. Wedge salad was plated with the outside of the lettuce wedge having up, so the dressing mostly slid off. I think it might have been blue cheese, but mostly salty. I still enjoyed it but wouldn't pay extra for it again. O ion ri gs were fresh and hot. The River sauce was non distinctive. Tomato? Thousand Island? Something. Bacon pepper steak was cooked as ordered, but the salty garlic butter on too was not great, or garlicky. Side of while baby mushrooms was glorious and the high point of the meal. This was one of the few restaurants that still had an opening for last min families like us for Mother's Day weekend. We had a party of 11 so this was a miracle. Lots of parking which was great because we have a huge car for our huge family lol Andy did a phenomenal job taking care of us last night. We all got the right orders, our drinks were always refilled and that made us happy. He was always checking on us and making sure we were good. Thanks Andy! Due to his recommendations we chose pretty much everything he mentioned lol All our steaks were so yum! Me and my eldest daughter got the garlic peppered steak w/garlic mashed and mushrooms. This place was good and has the opportunity to be excellent. I walked in around 5:00 p.m. with a party of 4 to have dinner. The hostess walked the test to the table and handed us four menus not knowing half of them were for lunch. We sat there for 10 minutes waiting for somebody to acknowledge us but put a mess in the corner. They completely forgot all about us. I got up and got the updated menus. I walked over to the bar where I saw three servers just standing around talking and I said can somebody please help us?. The food/steaks were good. Went here last night. Staff was polite and took good care of us. Food is where this went bad. Everything had no flavor whatsoever. Ordered the largest ribeye in hopes to get a nice thick steak...it looked like a ribeye you would get from a box out of the back of a truck at TSC. Steak was MAYBE 1/2" thick and that's being generous, and had no flavor as all. The baked potatoe I didn't care for the hard jacket but even so the potatoe honestly had no flavor either. We got there around 5 pm on a Saturday night, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. You can sit at the bar with no wait but I'd prefer a table or booth. We got the builder your own sampler: Coconut shrimp, Ruby poppers, and steak/avocado egg rolls. All options were delicious, we loved all the dipping sauces that come with them. They brought them out super fast right after our loaf of bread. The bread was soft inside crispy outside with butter was a good starter. I got the Caesar salad which had plenty of dressing on it, croutons, and lots of parmesan cheese. My husband got the steak tortilla soup. It was a good change up to the regular chicken but we still prefer the chicken. It did have good chunks of steak in it just tasted more like chili. I got the top sirloin + Smothered chicken combo with mashed potatoes and gravy. The steak was perfectly cooked where I like it and the potatoes were creamy and delicious. The chicken was truly smothered with cheese and bacon. My husband got the Oscar steak which is steak topped with crab. Very delicious! He also got the sautéed mushrooms which were divine. To top off the meal, since it was my husband's birthday we could choose from bread pudding or apple cobbler. We got the apple cobbler with the big scoop of ice cream on top. Overall it was around $75 so not bad for a ton of food. We took some home and are stuffed but definitely worth it. I love the decor and western theme. Pure shit. Wow I have been going here for the past 15 years. High school dances, date nights, catered my wedding and know the owner. It's been a few years since going in. We went in last night party of 18 in the back room. Half our party requested to be sat, yes I know they always like to have the whole party. However if you have been there you know the back room which is never full and private for a reason you normally get sat as your party grows. They told us no as we crowded the door because our server did not want us to be sat. Wow as a server I never would have had this option. We get sat and we wait and wait and wait. The poor 1 server for 18 people outrageous...no helper and no assistant. The back room was absolutely disgusting and dirty. The floor in the restaurant at the entrance has holes in it and they have put a rug to cover it. Our niece fell and slipped with a baby in her arms and the owner watched and did not say anything. A few other people tripped also. Liability! someone please call the health department or sue the owner. The food was so horrible. Everything we ordered was old, stale, bad tasting, overcooked. We spent about 500-600.00 total as a party and won't be coming back. The other great thing is we got to watch the owner sit around and get drunk taking shot after shot! We were there on a weeknight and were seated within 10 minutes. The waiter was attentive and brought out water and bread quickly. We ordered a medium rare Porterhouse steak and Salmon and shrimp. The salmon was over cooked and hard. The shrimp had no flavor. The broccoli was overcooked with little to no seasoning. The asparagus was almost raw. The porterhouse was the worst. From a cut perspective, it was more t-bone than porterhouse and was a little over a half inch thick. The seasoning was superficial and awful. The steak had virtually no browning but was overcooked and gray on one side and almost raw on the other. The fat was raw white on one side. The waiter offered to put it back on the grill, but the meal was already ruined by then and there was no salvaging that steak. The manager came and was more interested in checking to see if the waiter did his job than anything else, and he reduced the price of the steak. Service was great! I appreciated how kind and wonderful our service was. The food was a mix. The bread was dry and not warm. The butter was hard as well. My plate with ribs and chicken were ok. The chicken was very small and so were my fries. The ribs were really good. The appetizer was the best out of everything I had. I would say overall it's been a long time since I've been there and I have to say I would come back, but not for a long time again. Probably more like 3.5. We ordered takeout from here because we were staying at the attached hotel. Diane got a medium well Ribeye with a Baked Potato and Broccoli. I ordered a Medium Filet with the same sides. The Ribeye was perfect. My Filet was closer to rare. If we were in the restaurant, I would have sent it back. I ate the parts that were cooked the most and our dogs loved the rarest parts. The broccoli was standard. The potatoes were very unique. Baked and then battered and deep fried. It wasn't just unique. It was very good. When we called to order, no one answered. So Diane had to walk down to the restaurant to order and wait for our food. They did give us free sodas for the trouble. The relationship between the restaurant and the attached Ramada was odd. When I checked in, I asked about dining options and even though Ruby River has a door right in the lobby, the staff barely mentioned it. When we got to our room there was nothing about the restaurant. No direct button on the phone. Not even a phone number. I had to look it up online. The food was good enough that if we're ever back in the area we'd give it another try. read more
