They were quick to answer and get me am appointment on short notice. You use handsantiizer immediately when you arrive and they have a large wall full of many beautiful colors. Glass is around manicure stations and distancing is done between pedicure chairs. They are quiet clean and were showing friends on TV during my visit which I loved! They have a variety of different options for nails but given it had been a year I tried out the volcano pedicure spa treatment. It was full of so much including a hot stone massage! this salon doesn't do acrylic nails & designs outside of stickers which I originally wanted but after speaking on the phone and to the nail tech who was very nice & attentive I got a soft gel extension set. While I've never seen any other nail tech use this technique my nails have not broken or become loose at all. I only noticed some minor chipping on the right thumb & some of the small stickers starting to peel. The price was extremely good & worth every penny. I went into Ruby Nails on Tuesday (when it's 20% off for Northwestern students) and was greeted kindly by the staff! The salon was full when we got there, so we returned in an hour and we were immediately attended to. I got a normal manicure and loved the service. I am obsessed with how they were filed down and buffed, and will be going for this shape more frequently. While I was waiting for my nails to dry, I got a massage free of charge and got to enjoy the episode of Friends that was playing on the screen. This place is great. Went in for a mani/pedi with my partner and the service was great, the staff was so friendly and they did a great job on our nails. Loved this place and the people there, would recommend to anyone. I also want to note that when we sat down 2 women came in and started arguing b/c they were late for their appointment and we're demanding to still be sat (even though them doing so would mean everyone's later appointments would be affected), the staff was kind and patient, even when these 2 people continued to yell and be extremely rude to them. They were so rude to the staff that my partner and I felt we needed to speak up to tell the women that they were being rude and making a scene. I bring this up only to say that the staff working there deserve a medal for their patience and that even when they were being harassed by customers (who were 15 minutes late for their appointments) they still handled it with grace and kindness. read more

Eh. More like 2.5 stars. My gel manicure only lasted 11 days (vs. other places I've gone to in the past have consistently lasted 3-4 weeks!). Also, the color (white) wasn't as opaque as the color sample. When I asked the lady to paint another coat, she said she already painted too many and that it "doesn't look that bad". The customer service part of my experience was excellent. Everyone made me feel very comfortable and they were able to seat and serve me almost immediately despite walking in with no appointment. When I was getting ready to leave, they oiled and wrapped my pedi for me without me even asking. They also put my coat on me and zipped it up without my asking either. All of my belongings were gathered for me and delicately handled with consideration for my fresh mani. The customer service aspect is definitely a 6/5. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the actual manicure service I received. My nails are extremely unevenly buffed, leaving a lumpy bumpy texture which makes my polish job look not shiny and uneven. My nails were also filed down extremely short despite me saying I wanted to keep my length. Overall, my mani looks kind of ugly and will likely have to be redone ASAP. It has also chipped in several places even though it is less than 24 hours old. Should this error be corrected free of charge, I will be happy to edit my review. However, upon first impression this is unfortunately what I have to say about the quality of Ruby Nails. I would rate the nail service a 1/5 because they use fresh tools for every client. read more

I was in town for a few days and did a quick search of nail salons. This place was fantastic -- probably my best manicure ever. Fully COVID compliant, with plastic shields between the person doing your nails and the customer. The woman who did my nails was meticulous and efficient. I'd asked for a semi-sheer neutral hue that still had some color. Once she did the first layer she noticed it was probably more sheer than I'd wanted (without me having to say a word) and brought over some alternative options, which were perfect. A week after my pedicure, and this is what my foot looks like due to incredibly aggressive scrubbing. Why they thought this area of the foot required this level of scrubbing, I have no idea. My foot started bleeding in the middle of the pedicure. I told them they scrubbed too hard and pointed out the injury. Alcohol was dabbed on, which was painful, and I proceeded to ask for ice because it burned so much. Throughout the entire process, there was no verbal apology, no offer of refund or discount. In fact, at the end of the pedicure they awkwardly left me on the chair for 20 minutes until I said it was probably dry. I paid and tipped b/c I didn't want to cause a scene at the time, but now I regret not speaking up! read more

Wine on arrival (it was a Wednesday) and a solid Mani pedi which is literally showing no sign of chipping two and a half weeks later and I haven't been treating them kindly at all. I'm very happy to be back at Ruby Nails, and that I didn't give up on them. I tried other nail salons but was never as pleased with others as I had been with Ruby. They fixed the appt. vs. walk-in waiting time and I haven't had any issues with long wait times. And. I chose to go to Ruby nails for the 20% off discount every Tuesday for Northwestern students. I got a pedicure, and was looking forward to finally getting the dead skin off my very pedi deprived feet. The nail tech didn't even scrub my feet and after I asked if she could try get more of the dead skin off, she put lotion on them and wrapped my heels in plastic. Long story short, it wasn't effective. My friends all told me they've had great experiences at Ruby's and that they've always had great pedicures (involving the grater that gets the skin off your feet). So maybe it was just this specific nail tech. My nails themselves look great though! Overall, Ruby's is definitely a hit or miss. read more

I got the pedicure here and it was nice with warm towels on your feet and calves. They use a file and sort of pu mace stone to remove dead or dry skin from your heels. If you have a lot to work on you may need two or more visits to get your feet spring ready. But the services are nice and the staff friendly. I will come back. read more

I like it here a lot. I moved into the Galleria recently, and was looking for a local spot to get my mani / pedis. I am super excited that Ruby is right behind my building. I can always relax when I go there. I love the Friends episodes - its always super entertaining and completely relaxing to just zone out and watch the show while they are working on my nails. My nails have always looked beautiful each time I have gone - absolutely no complaints. I always walk in and they are quick to take me. Never been a particularly loyal customer here, but I had to write a good review after today. Got in and claimed my birthday free manicure. Turned out my gal Gigi recognized me from last time and apparently also on the streets. Super friendly, professional, and after knowing that it's my birthday tomorrow, she resorted to give me my free manicure, added in some spa elements, shoulder massage, asked me about my dress for tomorrow and discussed with me for 5min about what color to get for my pedicure. Who else would pay this much detail to a customer?! They don't offer gel or acrylic, so I had to book another salon to do SNS/acrylic nails tomorrow, and Gigi ended up talking to me about the pros and cons of each time, gave me advice even though she knew I wouldn't be coming back to Ruby Nails for that particular manicure. Literally the friendliest, caring and personal salon ever. Not to mention clear, professional, efficient. I went to this place months ago to get a feel for it. I walked in at lunch to see if they would remove my no chip....just a quick service to see how they were. I've been looking for a good spot in Evanston and they're close to work. I was immediately turned away saying they didn't have time, even though they only had two customers and several technicians. Today I made an appointment to have my no chip removed and the man on the phone was very nice. When I arrived, I checked in and then heard the manager/owner yelling at him for taking me for a no chip removal when they have regular customers to take care of...again, there were only two, and two technicians were just chatting and playing on their phones. I had been going here prior to new ownership. Unfortunately, my experience since that time hasn't been good. My cuticle was bleeding and hurt so badly that I had to yell, "OUCH" before the technician realized what she had done. Worse than that, the tech decided to use the cuticle nipper on her own fingers when I paid for services. Upon returning for my polish, she proceeded to use that same nipper on one of my nails. When I said, "You just used that on your own finger!" she replied, "Just a little, just a little". I am not going back to this dump! The ambiance is horrible, there are no new polishes, the holes in the wall are uncovered, and worst of all the services provided by the new owner are less than satisfactory. They never use machines to get your gel polish off - this is great for your natural nails! The team is very friendly and care if you like your color. They always offer you a drink.
