If I could rank zero stars, I would. was in for an acrylic fill and no chip. I have been getting these services for years, enough to know what is good vs bad. Today was THE WORST no chip manicure I have ever gotten. The service provider (the only male, not sure his name) was rude, fast and paid zero attention to nail detail. I will be shocked if this lasts for one week before it peals. While I was sitting waiting for my toes to dry I had to file the sides of all 10 nails and nip some obvious clumps of polish out of my cuticles and nail sides. I wonder what other patrons think about someone fixing their own manicure in a salon. crazy. I will never be back here. read more

I was looking for a neighborhood nail salon in the area and Yelp pointed me in this direction. After all, with all the positive 4-5 star reviews, I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I don't get my nails done regularly. The only times I visit the nail shop is when I'm about to go on vacation or if I have to attend a special occasion. When I do have them done, I like going all out. I had my eye on a specific design and saw this really cute picture on Pinterest that I had my heart set on. So before I decided to commit to an appointment, I wanted to make sure the owner and technician could replicate the nail design. In typical Nina fashion, I whipped out my phone, showed the pin off of Pinterest and told them "Can you do this?" The owners paused for a bit, looked at my photo to examine the detailing and a minute later said yes. Perfect. Appointment booked and confirmed. This was all done about a week ago. So far, All gravy. Today I'm here and I'm happy to say that after my first visit to Ardor, I'm confident enough to give this place 5 stars not only for the kick ass job Andy and Nina did but to also sing praises for the amount of time it took for them to complete this. (Pics shown below). Some People fail to understand that detailed nail art takes time, a steady hand and lots of skill. I had my appointment at 1pm and was out by 3. Now your probably thinking that's a long time to be sitting in the shop but for the amount of work they did (detailed mani and pedi), 2 hours is reasonable. Parking on the street wasn't too bad for a Saturday. A spot in front of the store opened up on the opposite side of the street so I turned around and nabbed the space. Since I had the meter for a max of 2 hours, Andy was considerate of my time and finished within the limit. I Really appreciate that and would make a return trip in the future. read more

I was looking for a nail salon nearby to do a pedicure since it has been a while, I do not have time on the weekdays, and I work in Evanston so I called and asked for an appointment. They greeted me at the door they were very nice I'm assuming they are the owners and the lady who did my pedicure was pleasant and thorough she did a very good job on my feet and the massage was not too rough either. The place is small but clean a variety of nail colors from regular polish and no chip and I'm sure gel. They also have lots of designs which I will definitely try. This salon is....okay. It's very dated, charming, I guess, and kitschy. I had a fill and no chip polish applied, and it was $45. This is more expensive than other area salons, and the nail tech didn't even apply cuticle oil or lotion before I left. I understand that sometimes you go to a place for its location, and that's why I stopped in..it was on my way to an evening class. However, I won't go back unless I'm in some sort of nail emergency. By far the best mani/pedi I've ever had. They took their time and my nails looked and stayed beautiful for over a month- I got a no chip mani and regular pedi. Its been about a year since i have gotten my nails done. I decided i wanted to get a full set. I work down the street on central and this was close by so i called to make an appointment. I came in after i got off work,i was alittle early. I was told to pick a fingernail polish. I did and i waited..about 20 mins later they where ready for me. The guy who did my nails did them pretty fast...i think i was there for 30-35mins..tops! Drying time included! Never have i been to a place that worked that fast...never will i want to go back to a place that is done that fast again!! First thing he didnt do was cut down my natural nails, they where short to beging with BUT with growth it would look tacky under the acrylics...he should of atleast filed them to make sure they wouldnt be too long! I wanted almond shaped nails with black and gold glitter..he did it BUT some of the glittler was on heavier than other places,some went down the nail farther than the other nails..he seemed to be in a rush the whole time.....eventually he told me he was done...he didn't remove any of the extra polish surrounding my nails or the dried acrylic that was filed and hanging under my nails....he just told me he was done and to go to the drying station.. i went to the drying station to let them dry...my nails where still wet so i couldnt pick off any of the stuff the guy left on my hands/nails that where not supposed to be there.....the man who did my nails cleaned up his station and left(i must of been his last appointment because he was out with the quickness!!) The nails set me back $40 with tip.. My nails dried and i left....when i was home i cleaned up my nails and picked off the dried polish and dried acrylic...while i was cleaning up my nails i noticed that more than half of my nails had gaps between my natural nailbed and the acrylic tip! This is to be expected with one or two nails but seriously..7 out of my 10 nails!!! Anyone who has had acrylic nails knows that with a gap like this it can lead to bacterial infections from food,dirt,etc getting stuck between the nails! The gap is caused by the tip not being applied properly (not enough glue,not held down long enough or too small of a tip) to the natural nail bed! Luckly for me i have a nail brush so i just take extra precaution when washing my hands and i scrub really well with the nail brush under my nails since they all have the gap! Needless to say,this many gaps is not acceptable. The next thing i noticed is that the length and shape did not match up...ok they are not gonna be exact to the T, BUT they should be some what similar! From afar you couldn't tell but up close and side by side(or laying them ontop of each other) you can rreealllyy tell the difference! I did get multipule compliments on my nails,but all these details i listed are enough to keep me from going back to them..it doesnt matter that they are a 2 min walk from my work...i want decent quality and time spent on my nails and unfortually for me this is NOT the place!! I'm due for a fill but i will be looking for another place to go to! read more

Easily the absolute worst manicure I've ever had. It's possible the problem could be bad polish, but then why have it as an option? The polish feels dry and yet somehow isn't 8 hours later because it's mushed around, coming off and denting at the slightest of touches. I went back after seeing this and they just put more nail polish on top. Seriously? They also got nail polish on my hand and didn't really get it all off, as you can see from the reddish coloring around my nails. This was my first time coming here. I normally go every other week to the nail salon closer to me, but was on this side of town and thought I'd try it. That being said, in the many manicures I've had in my life, this has never happened, so... yikes. And won't be back! read more

I walk toward the pedicure area and am told to seat myself at the mani station. I think to myself that they must do manicures prior to pedicure. The man proceeds to use a device to buff/scratch my fingernails. I tell him I just want a normal mani. He stops halfway through and am asked to go to the pedicure area. My only complaint is that my no-chip manicure is starting to peel off from the cuticles. There's no chipping, but my hair gets caught under the polish. Worst manicure ever. Went to this salon for a no chip manicure when my regular salon couldn't take me. The salon itself was lovely and welcoming as well as the staff and removal of my current no chip polish was painless as opposed to other salons I've been to. However, the manicure ended up being lumpy and uneven and is honestly embarrassing. I am reluctant to write a review for Ardor because I really like this place and don't want everyone to find my hidden gem . Location: It's very small and a little hard to find parking during peak shopping hours on central but it is very clean and I love that the nail polish is organized by color. I can't tell you how annoying you go to a place and the colors are all over the place. Service: The staff and owners are SUPER friendly! The prices are very reasonable and they have a punch card with 10% off your 10th visit (and they always remind you to have them sign off which is great because I always forget). I come her just for acrylic and they do a great job. I used to have to come in every 2 weeks because my nails would break off but since coming here I can go 3 weeks and I have had only minor chips. I have been going to Ardor since 2014. I had written a review back in 2014 raving about the foot massage I got with their basic pedicure. I always tipped very well! I was so appreciative! The past few times I have gone, however, no massage at all. Today I asked why I don't get the foot massage anymore with my pedicure. She told me that I have to pay for the Luxury Pedicure to get a foot massage with a pedicure. I told her the website says "longer" foot massage with the Luxury which leads people to believe the basic pedicure comes with a foot massage and if you want a "longer" foot massage you request the Luxury. I only have this experience with this one woman. The other staff, who have always given a great foot massage with the basic pedicure, makes you want to tip them really well. Their customer service was excellent! But this lady has been is either hustling customers or it's racial. I bring this up because I have witnessed others get a basic pedicure and they get a foot massage. So what's up?! Needless to say...I will be going elsewhere from now on. I have NEVER, in all my years of getting pedicures, had to request and pay more for a simple foot massage with a pedicure. And even with the Luxury...her foot massage was like....pointless. I work too hard and used to look forward to self-care with a pedicure. Looking for other referrals in Evanston who give a foot massage with their pedicures. What an awesome nail salon- not only is it the cheapest pedicure I've ever had but also one of the best! The workers are all super friendly, calm, polite, and professional. A regular pedicure is $25 ($23 if you have cash). They do quality work and take their time on you. I stopped here quickly over lunch for a no chip manicure. They were able to take my immediately. I was disappointed with the quality. The nail technician put on the polish too thick, with a couple nails having polish spilling over onto my skin on the sides. Also many nails had slight imperfections with the smoothness of the polish. This is the worst nail salon I have ever been to. They rushed through my full set and let me leave with wet gel polish. I was told it was my fault since I didn't put my hands in properly. I've gotten gel polish multiple times and never had this issue. It took 25 minutes which feels to rushed. Came back for a second time to let them redeem themselves and it wasn't any better. The guy clearly can't see properly since my nails were uneven some much longer than others. After my second visit for a fill in - my nail literally fell off after two days. The guy said it was be and I explained I've never broken a nail. Then he said it's because it was fill in not a full set. I came in since I was near by three days later to get it repaired instead of just taking them off. Typically this is something that is complimentary within a couple days of the last service but I was charged $5 for a replacement and they don't take card for less than $12. Was told to go to bank and my bank was like a mile away and they wanted me to walk there for $5. Luckily there was a nice lady who offered to pay it for me.
