The place was clean and me and my mom went to get gels. We thought it would've been a nice experience but right away one of the girls give us weird looks and acted so rude, my nails the day after my thumb nail broke right away when I picked up my phone I went and got it fixed for free but that said day about close to 12:50 my other thumb nail broke. My shien glue holds my nails better than their gel glue, my mom on the other have she had 2 extensions for her two nails that were shorter than the others she has been complaining about how much it hurt when she did any of her work for our Eid party's. Walked-in on a Thursday evening to Evans nails & Spa under the new management, I was really amazed of how the interior have changed! It is very pretty, everything looks very clean, new, modern and well organized. The new owner and staffs was very welcoming and extremely nice, I was promptly seated and they proceeded with helping choosing a color and get my nails done without rushing! Tools are properly sealed and I can see they really prioritize sanitation. The atmosphere was quiet and calm there are no people talking loudly with each other like in other places which is what I'm exactly looking for after having a long day. Their prices are pretty moderate and definitely matches the quality of the service! They also provide punch card where you will get free service at the end when is completed which is awesome! Location is also very convenient, just a few steps from Noyes CTA purple line! Overall, this is a great place to come to have some relaxing me time and I know will be coming here very often. read more

This is the best quality no-chip you can get with a groupon! At first, I was worried that the end results would be bad because the nail technician was super speedy. But she knew exactly was she was doing and was so efficient! There was no unevenness in the application and my nails lasted for 3 weeks without chipping. They offer you tea/coffee and place a complementary, heated sand bag on your shoulders to relax while you get your nails done which is a plus. They also have the best romantic comedy movies playing on the TV. I don't think there's free parking but the area that they are located in Evanston has a lot of street parking nearby. read more

This nail salon is average. They go a little overboard with the cuticle trimming which was a bit uncomfortable. The massage chairs are nice. Location is great. The reason for the 2 stars is the last time I was there I used Venmo to tip. It seemed that the nail tech did not believe I paid a tip and asked to see proof. I was a bit shocked that someone would ask that, considering that tips are entirely discretionary. I pull up the Venmo to show the tip I gave her, but I have to admit it was a bit uncomfortable and I'd have a hard time coming back again after that. I came here with two of my friends for mani/pedis that we had booked a week in advance. Worth noting that I am a white woman, and they are both Black women. Turns out they had written down our booking incorrectly, so they were understaffed to take care of us. This would have been fine as we had plenty of time. They promptly did my nails, and I was done super quickly. My two friends did NOT receive the same treatment. One of my friends did not even have her nails TOUCHED for over an hour (during which time, the salon took 2 white women walk-ins before her??). My other friend did not get her nails soaked before they cut her cuticles, was ignored when she asked for her nails to be soaked, and her cuticle bled (& was still bleeding when we left). It just seemed like very clearly racist behavior, and our nails didn't even look that good. Will NOT go back. read more

I visited Chicago during spring break with my teenage daughter. Since it was so cold, I tried doing in door activities and that included pampering ourselves. I'm so glad I found this spot and still pleased with my nails after 3 weeks. Whatever they're using on their gel nails- IT WORKS. I usually pick on my chipped edges after 1-2 weeks but this time it didn't lift a bit! I have 2 kids and one more on the way, busy working mom and my gel nail polished survived this long without a chip. Plus works are friendly and genuinely nice. I've been going to Evans for ages because I live across the street and there are no other nail salons within walking distance. The space is nice and clean and they use good polish brands. I have friends who come here and like it and I know I have high standards when it comes to this stuff so it's 3 stars max, here's why: -The customer service is hit and miss, occasionally they offer you water/ tea or a shoulder rub but most of the time not. -The movies are usually too loud so if you want to relax, (or saw the same movie every other time your came) you can't block it out- even with headphones. -My polish consistently chips or peels within 2-3 days of getting them done. -I've been left waiting for an hour with my feet soaking in cold water having arrived on time for a scheduled appointment before having someone start my pedicure. -Today the lady changed the color I picked out without asking or telling me. I look down at the end and it's a white-out white, not the clear 'ballet slippers' I'd chosen. I went back and got the right color from the shelf which she'd apparently put away, and asked if there was something wrong with the bottle I'd chosen. She said 'yeah but you picked white'. I showed her the color I wanted was clear and not opaque and asked for my hands to be done with the right color, but she didn't apologize or offer to redo them. I probably wouldn't be writing this review if they did an ok job on my hands. -They file very roughly (which is why the polish chips), they never remove the polish from the week before properly, and never clean under the nail properly either. They also have a weird habit of painting three very thick coats so it looks like you have stick-on nails, but they chip faster and dry so slowly. It's usually because they polished unevenly for the first two coats and want to cover it up with a third. Some of the girls do a better job on cuticles than others, but usually I feel I could have done it myself at home. read more

I got acrylics done here and they didn't use nail tips like most places do, which is fine except for the method they use leaves the acrylics suuuper thick (you can fully see the buildup of acrylic looking at the side) and they barely filed down the underside. I've only had them for about a week and a half and one nail has already started breaking just from opening a clasp on a necklace a couple times. They look good from above, but overall are definitely not worth the $90 they cost. read more

Next in walks an elderly white woman the nail tech offers her a warm towel, water, tea, cookie or donut. I'm thinking ok that's interesting, 20 mins later a group of 5 young white women walk in, the nail tech offers them warm towels,water, tea, cookie or donut. I'm thinking like damn, why didn't I receive this type of treatment. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe she just forgot to offer me these things, who knows but I just had to share this encounter. I sat and waited with my foils on my fingers for a long time. The nail technician then finally started taking off my polish but then proceeded to leave to take care of another matter for 10 minutes. $35 mani/pedi deal Mon-Wed. They have OPI and Essie... and for $5 you can upgrade the nail polish to the "gel" ones (they're like normal nail polish that's supposed to stay on longer? Not the actual UV ones). I came in with a last minute appointment and needed to be out in an hour. They were quick with me because I needed to go so I didn't get to enjoy the massages etc as much as the other ladies there, but I would like to come back and see what it's like to get a more thorough service. I didn't think they were very good about cleaning up hang nails and cuticles but maybe it's because I had to be done in an hour? They were very nice, offering me water and a hot shoulder pack. Buuuut unless you added tip when you made the online rez, you can't tip on your card. The cash or check tip policy is weird and makes me think they have some overlord who keeps all their money. I love this place. I come here for the "get a free mani with the purchase of a pedi" deal, which runs Monday thru Wednesday (except holidays, as I found out). I come here for a few reasons: (1) Price is good. The pedi price, $35, seems totally reasonable and in-line with similar places, given that it's not a full on spa, but also not a cheapo "hot nails" in a strip mall. Also, there is a Wildcard discount when you're not using the other free mani deal. (2) Service quality. The pedi chairs are really nice (new, massagers work, etc), the technicians are always wearing gloves and using their own instruments from the sanitizing machine. They take their time and do a nice job, and if you mess up a nail, they'll redo the whole nail rather than patching it. They also don't try to guilt you about it -- no biggie. (3) Add-ons. There are a lot of little freebie details that make the experience here great... You get a cup of hot tea, if you like. You also receive a warm neck/shoulder wrap, and you get a short (but awesome) shoulder massage afterward. The technicians are FRIENDLY and talk to you, as much as you want to talk to them anyway. There is always something great on TV... movies, desperate housewives, Revenge, etc. On more than one occasion I've sat at the dryers until the movie ended because I couldn't tear myself away. Basically, of everywhere I've been in Evanston (Evanston nails, Nail Bar, Sky Nails, etc) this is the best place at this price range. Their prices have gone up to $20 but service has gone down - no massage like before, no offering of water or anything, no help gathering up things to move to drying station. It's like they're mad you're there. This last time around, the older woman who seemed to be in charge was super rude for no reason; the young nail tech was sweet but did NOT know what she was doing and did a very poor job. Another customer and I locked eyes knowingly at one point at how rude and bad things were going. So I do my laundry practically next door to this spa near the Foster CYA stop in Evanston. Thought I'd give them a try. The front desk person was personable. Inside it's rather dark and I wondered for a moment if it was so you couldn't see mistakes but why be negative from jump. I choose the basic mani pedi and polish color. There is a wide selection of colors and the place is clean and neat. Initially the Waterford the pedie was cold but that is easily remedied. The young woman who worked in my feet seemed to be more concerned about speed than quality spending less than a min on my cuticles and moving on to the pumice. Then she spent maybe 45 seconds on my feet with the pumice, even on the heel area. When I asked her to please go over particular areas again, she gave me an angry stare but proceeded. When she got to the edge of my foot she scrubbed so hard and so fast that it hurt and I asked I her to stop, only to reveal that the skin on my foot was broken and bleeding. She behaved as if she could care less with the most apathetic apology. The front desk worker offered to finish the pedicure... are you kidding? Your worker just injured me, causing my foot to bleed. I don't know if they do good work and So it will remain because who can risk taking a chance? Advice to the manager... please choose employees with better attitudes and dispositions. My passive request should not have pushed your employee to such anger that she physically injured a customer. Won't be recommending this spot. Beware if fragile feelings and bloody outcomes! Second review same day goes from a 1 to a 4 So happed to pass by, same day, on the way to the market. The employee that serviced me poorly caught me and apologized very sincerely and provided gift certificate. I accepted and gave the certificate back and said that I would pay but she insisted. So I gave her another chance. Excellent job. I gat a French gel and a reg pedicure. And left a tip. Maybe she was just having a bad morning. Made an appointment to return in 2 weeks.
